View Full Version : You know, you could spin off a show just for Sawyer

Sawyer's back story cons are so interesting and he's such an interesting character, they could almost spin off a show based solely on him. But then, I guess there'd be no Sawyer story left for Lost.

Sawyer's Cons would make an interesting show, but they would have to make Sawyer more likable. We'd need to believe Sawyer has a good reason for stealing money and hearts. Like a kid brother who needs a heart transplant or something. Or everyone he cons is bad .

Well the cons he used to do could be his flashbacks...to show his intelligence and provide history. But for some reason he's reformed and he's now conning people for a righteous purpose.

Kind of like Angel except he's not a vampire ;)

My natural inclination is to say that this is a really bad idea, but if there was ANY story that could be a good Lost Spin-Off it would be Sawyer reliving different parts of the 1990s. but they'd have to have someone play the "Young Sawyer" of 1992 when his grunge band failed. I think the concept of him doing cons and reacting to historical scenes could be interesting. Anyone remember how Clinton won and slowly lost the hearts of Southern male voters? Talk about drama.

Personally, I think Sawyer is plenty likable already. The fact that he hates himself for turning into the man who ruined his life is heartbreaking. Having Sawyer only con "bad" people would only simplify his character and destroy his depth. And I'm sure that Sawyer could easily get good ratings with a spin off. His character is excellent. But then again, so is Kate's character, Locke's character etc. etc. That's what makes lost so great. Each character has enough depth to run their own show.. by combining all of them together you get an incredible collaboration of stories.. Lost

I love Sawyer, and he is without a doubt my favourite character, but I wouldn't want him to get his own spin off (or any other character for that matter). For me, what makes lost is the relationships between all these characters who've been thrown together, and all the weird connections in their past. that would be totally lost in a spin off.

Instead of a spin-off, maybe LOST could just be on every night?!?!

This should be moved to the Lost Talk forum, mostly so it doesn't get buried and forgotten in here.
You could do spinoff shows for a lot of the characters. I'd watch the "Funtime with Hurley Show" hehe.
This got me to thinking about how Boone said to Locke in season one that he should have one of those shows where he fixes up people's houses.

Ha! Me and my friend were talking about the exact same thing the other day. We came up with loads of ideas for spin-off shows. Sawyer's would be a 'Hustle'-type show following his weekly adventures as a con-man.

Jack could have an ER-type show with the added twist that... yes - he works with his alcoholic father! Leading to increasingly amusing drunken misunderstandings! Maybe it could be more like Scrubs...

Hurley - something along the lines of 'Funtime with Hurley'. Or (more amusingly), multi-millionaire Hugo Reyes takes over Donald Trump's position on 'The Apprentice'! "Dude, you're like fired!".

Locke's would be an 'Office'-esque comedy - following his dead-end career as a Regional Collections Supervisor for a box company. Episodes would routinely involve 'The Colonel's fiercely competetive Risk campaign and Randy the boss making increasingly un-pc jokes about Locke's paralysis. Hilarity ensues.

Well I'm all out of ideas. I'm sure you can all come up with better ones. Go to it!

A con with a cause... I like it.

Sawyer, I'll tell ya, has really grown on me this season.

The wonderful thing about Lost is that there are so many stories and characters. I don't think a show about one of them could work or would be that interesting. Don't get me wrong I love Sawyer, great character and nice to look at of course!
