View Full Version : any new thoughts on the build site that K/S worked
ozium88 10-30-2006, 03:22 PM I thought they had K/S making another home in lostville. Obviously that isn't the case anymore. Now that we know the dig/work site is on the new island, does that change anyones opinion on what it's purpose is?
I know some thought it was a archeological dig site, do you guys still think it is a dig site now that it is on the other island?
We already were asking, What could it be for? and now we are presented with the new question... why is it on the new island?
My current theory is that since the DHARMA Initiative "failed" the Hanso Foundation gave up on trying to stop whatever cataclysm was predicted by the Valenzetti Equation and was instead preparing a refuge on the Island where the cataclysm couldn't reach them. I think Ben was headed to the Swan when he got caught, and I think his purpose was to stop the pushing of the button. I think the button was the only thing "propping open" the doorway to the outside world, and I think Ben closed it (by convincing Locke to stop pushing it) without the knowledge or consent of the rest of the Others. I think he did it because once the rest of the Hanso Foundation leaders--or whoever they selected to survive the cataclysm--arrived, he would lose his control.
So I think that whatever they were building--landing strip, helipad, road, whatever--it was to prepare for the arrival of many more people who aren't coming any more. But Ben is the only one who knows that.
So far.
AbRuptPenguin 10-30-2006, 07:21 PM Mabey its a meaningless task with no other purpose but to wear them out?
carfreak2128 10-30-2006, 07:24 PM Well, i have no new ideas but.............i think we'll find out more this week judging by the previews
Save The Humans 10-30-2006, 07:37 PM Well, they've grabbed 12 Tailies, plus Cindy. And now J/J/K. Plus any disobedient Others (who were also at hard labor there). Maybe they're building a dormitory/apartment building to house them in--since they're obviously not "ready" to live in Otherville, on the main island?
Just sayin'.
scottk517 10-30-2006, 11:20 PM They are trying to break them psycologically. Anyone who has done hard physical labor for any extended period, especially if you are not used to it. It wears you down, mentally and physically. Part of the indoctrination to become an other
I tend to agree with scottk517. The fact that we have learned that there is a second island (and it's not where Otherville is) makes me think that the dig site has no construction purpose of a larger significance. The Others simply found the Hydra station a suitable site to house these newly aquired captives. Their very own Alcatraz, with plenty of manual labor to go around.
Kitsume 10-31-2006, 01:48 AM I think they must be doing something there. It looked like there were some blueprints or something on a table where Pickett and Juliet were standing. Plus, the ammount of supervision it would take to have a bunch of prisoners just pushing around rocks seems like it would be counter productive. Why have six or seven people supervise ten or fifteen workers to accomplish nothing? Those supervisors could be more productive and leaving people locked up would be just as emotionally draining.
I don't think the other people (other than Sawyer and Kate) were prisoners.

wtec- i love this theory, and wish I had thought of it. It strikes me as refreshingly plausible. But how do you explain the fact that he passed on the opportunity not to push it?

They are digging for the long LOST tomb of King Tutkanhanso.....duh.
(4.8.15.16.23.42) 10-31-2006, 11:38 AM I did think it was a landing strip at first but there's not enough room if the island is that small. Hopefully there will be some light shed on this because as of now, I'm thinking it's just for manual labor...

I don't think he wanted to be in the Hatch when it happened. He may or may not have known about the failsafe, but even if he did, he didn't know where the key was.
I don't think the failsafe saved the "world"--I think it saved the people inside. I think when they talk about the "world ending" when the button isn't pushed, it means that they lose the world... or at least access to it.
HoardingHurley81 10-31-2006, 12:00 PM I think there is some significance to this, mainly because the writers are being somewhat coy with the whole "dig" aspect. They show us only a little bit of it, that there is manual labor going on, etc. But with other stuff they have wanted to keep under wraps, it was an "out of sight, out of mind" policy. They present just enough to intrigue us. Also, remember that Benry told Kate that the next two weeks were going to be tough, maybe because they will be done constructing whatever it is then....?
