Having been an acquaintance of the late Bob Shea and the apparently-soon-to-be-late Bob Wilson, I take particular interest in allusions to their Illuminatus! The major one I'd caught earlier in Lost was the heroin-filled church idol statues, which expanded on a thought by character Fission Chips (agent 00005) regarding smuggling, and constitutes one of the clues to the location of Craphole. I'd also noticed a general similarity of themes.

However, now it looks like we have some character correspondences: Benry to Hagbard Celine and Juliet to either Mavis or Stella Maris. I guess that makes Jack into George Dorn in at least those scenes. One of the ways to interpret Ben Linus's name is as "son of ilLumINatUS". (Of course it could also be "son of LINdelof".) Smokey corresponds to Leviathan.

No, Damon, they'll never allow the apple scene on broadcast TV, at least not in any literal rendering! Maybe Jack can do surgery on a mango held by Juliet, if you can somehow eroticize that.

I get the Fernando Poo connection with the Americans and the Asians but where are the Russians? Or are they the ones that started this mess and left?

I don't think nationalities is a detail that's being alluded to by the makers of Lost.

It won't make much sense unless you've read Illuminatus!. The bit about Hagbard Celine and Benjamin Linus is largely a matter of "flavor" rather than specifics, although the submarine is a connection. The apple scene unfortunately is something I don't think they'd allow to be discussed in The Fuselage.
