I like stronger colors. Contrasts. Earth tones and green (not pastel). I can also pull off a wine red color. Blue has also always been a favorite.... (and again... not pastel...)

Well, before my grandma passed away 3 years ago, we used to go to Kentucky and celebrate Thanksgiving there with my cousins and uncle (my dad's side of the family).

My parents dont' really do anything fancy so since then I've been going to my hubby's parent's house (where we were living last year). Pretty much every relative under the sun is there. I won't even get into the shenanigans/fighting that happened last year. Let's just say afterwards (not at the in-laws house) the cops were involved. My hubby has a REALLY crazy family. Not the immediate family thank goodness. Seriously, my hubby could write a book and most readers would think he's making the stuff up. He could write a soap opera, but it probably wouldn't get picked up because it would be considered "too unrealistic." :laugh:

This year, my uncle and cousins from North Carolina (my mom's side) are visiting so we're probably going to my in-laws early, and then my parents' later. We usually have the traditional turkey with all the fixins.

I love things like that... Funky Friday where wh just have jazz and funk playing in the common room... and we go out to Starbucks and on the monday where we play Smash Bros on the Gamecube, Im always 3rd out of 4, not because Im rubbish but because its tradition... (however I was second today, as one of the guys had a music workshop and someone else joined in... he had an afro... not that that had anything to do with anything)

Then theres the partying habit in the place full of magical things and unicorns and stuff like that but Im not allowed to talk about it... please don't hurt me Mr Shark! Oh! and thetradition of saying that Blue Coral eats dolphins whenever sealife is mentioned which of course isn't true Blue is a very nice sea loving person.

Myha - I wont go into the history of Thanksgiving, 'cause Reb has already posted that on book nook. If you want to know what it means to most Americans, look up a series of paintings by Norman Rockwell called "The four freedoms" - specifically: "Freedom from want".
It shows a big family gathered around the table for Thanksgiving dinner & the Mother setting a platter with a HUGE roast turkey on the table. (Not to suggest that the whole point of the holiday is gluttony :laughing: ) It represents the tradition of families reuniting for the holidays. To just about anyone who's grown up in America, this is something that is bred into us from birth! :biggrin: It's a huge part of what defines us as a nation.

I'm not sure how it started, but it became a tradition. I think we started going to Kentucky for Thanksgiving because we had it and the day after off school and my dad had it off at work. My grandparents used to come here, but after a while my grandpa couldn't travel anymore. We continued going down there to see my grandma even after my grandpa died.

Basically I think the tradition here is having a big turkey and lots of other food at a big gathering of family and/or friends. Lots of families also have the tradition of going around the table and each person says what they're thankful for. I don't think we've really ever done that though.

We have the big Christian holidays like Christmas and Easter... National traditional holidays aren't that many... at least not many that are still celebrated. We have our national day, which I would describe of kind of a high holiday. May 17th. Everybody in the entire country participates in parades in every little valley and corner of the country...

My parents always made Thanksgiving dinner early, and we'd have it around lunchtime. My grandfather always come over, we'd say what we were thankful for... and then dig in. The have leftover turkey until Christmas. But now, we've been going to our cousin's house and having a big family Thanksgiving. Too bad my cousin Robin is going to ATLANTA this year. She's the chef, but we're still eating there... :biggrin:

Ok erm... heres one...

It's a nice sunny day, lots of sun with very little cloud and a cool southerly breeze. The police are called to a field by the local farmer who just came back from holiday. The police find a guy lying naked (and dead) face down in the middle of a field. Apart from the dead body there is no other evidence. A mile north from the incident in a village the local church minister is reported to have seen a sign from god after a set of clothes were found on his church spire.

So... how did the man die?

Ok. The guy climbed on top of the church to commit suicide. His clothes got caught on the tower, but then a huge wind gust came and blew him a mile south into the farmer's field leaving his clothes caught on the tower.

Originally the man was in a hot air balloon. The balloon was loosing height and he didn't have any more sand bags to throw out, so in order to loose more weight and gain height the man threw his clothes out and they landed on the church tower, he is still loosing height so finally the balloon crashes down into the ground in the middle of the field, the man falls out and dies, the balloon gains height again and disappears.This is merely a guess though... the version I heard was thata dead man was found in the desert, and his clothes were miles off to one direction...
