The Shapeshifter 02-28-2007, 08:25 PM I absolutely loved this episode. Everything's been so 'heavy' (understandably) so far this season, we needed an episode like this! And the "you make your own luck" was an interesting contrast to the "you can't escape fate" message of Flashes Before Your Eyes.
And I saw lots of groundwork for future plot points... obviously the Kate/Sayid/Locke/Danielle rescue mission (and hope of finally a Danielle/Alex reunion?), but also hints of tension around the whole Sun kidnapping still to be resolved.
But mostly, I'm just thrilled to see an episode again with almost the whole ensemble, and some of the awesome banter that I've been missing lately. And LOVED Hurley trying to come back at Sawyer with a nickname!
Carlo210 02-28-2007, 08:29 PM This episode foams over the brim with awesomeness (see what I did there?)!
Dialogue was outstanding, characters were brilliant, the Sawyer/Kate aspect was sensible and logical, and Kate was actually bearable.
Fantastic! :D
Some may say stuff about how Sawyer went all kamikaze with the nicknames, but this episode truly benefitted from them. The atmosphere is just so relieving.

Best line ever!
And yes... I liked the nickname overload - it was almost as if Sawyer had to get it out of his system after having been away from them all for a few days. Also, I think after that key moment where Kate stopped calling him James and called him Sawyer again, it was sort of a demonstration of him putting the 'Sawyer' persona back on, when he'd let it slip a bit with Kate.
shocker664 02-28-2007, 08:34 PM This episode rocked :) it was a "fun" episode Next episode.... OO NOW THAT WILL BE GOOD !!!!!!
Carlo210 02-28-2007, 08:35 PM Hurley is a really hopeful and uplifting guy and the aspect of shaping your own well being was explained deeper.
Very different from last weeks episode. I know many may still be in the droughtful stage of being angry at Lost, but this episode was relieving on so many levels.
This episode brought a tonne of hope into my eyes. I was smiling the whole time.
Hurley's horny parents were funny. Seemed like a joke by the writers.
"Hey, wouldn't it be funny if they want to have 'fun' after 17 years?"
hehe
Carlo210 02-28-2007, 08:39 PM Shocker, you just reminded me...
Ahh! Next Week!
Edit: Forgot to add OMG and LOOK WHAT KATE DID!!! (Karri, I joke I joke)
Lost is back. Let's hope it stays this time!
cylune 02-28-2007, 09:24 PM That was a fun episode. So happy to see the ensemble back. People were afraid the humour would be out of place but I think it was done great and the balance between drama and humour was adequate.
I loved Hurley talking to Libby. So touching. And it was nice to see a dad who isn't a complete jerk (if you take away leaving the family for 17 years).
Watching the gang in the van all happy in the van put a big smile on my face. :D Such a feel good scene. One of my favorite ever.

don't forget his dad came back for some money, but he did try to do something good for him, it was good to see them all smile again
stefanie_bean 02-28-2007, 10:23 PM I wasn't too crazy about Hurley's horny parents, though. Seemed like a joke by the writers.
"Hey, wouldn't it be funny if they want to have 'fun' after 17 years?"
Why is that a joke? I've been married almost 25 years - 'nuff said. If you love each other, it's "fun" no matter how long you've been married. ;)
:running over to TPTB question board to ask when Hurley is going to get another girlfriend:
Clochard 02-28-2007, 10:27 PM Official how you know i'm new here question: TPTB?

Clochard 02-28-2007, 10:32 PM Thank you
cdngurl26 02-28-2007, 10:51 PM most hillarious lost ever....whoever wrote sawyers lines knows this charecter to a tee...after seeing ctv previews cant wait till next week
deadwing12 02-28-2007, 11:02 PM Very strong episode, great dialogue, feel good storyline, and some dramatic important stuff at the end. And next week's episode looks clutch.
care_n_jim 02-28-2007, 11:02 PM I LOVED IT - that was a great episode- I laughed - I cried - and then I felt the normal LOST fear - what is going to happen next - VERY good episode - I keep saying that the weeks that I feel I didn't get quite what I was looking for are there to teach me to be patient and that good things will come if I just have FAITH - well this episode proved it - goes to show that EVERY episode is great and perfect in its own right - THANK YOU!
Carlo210 02-28-2007, 11:03 PM Aye, the characters were so solid in this episode. Let's hope Lost stays like this and doesn't go back like they did before!
100%
Not to mention Kate was awesomely logical and not a dunce. She actually tld whoever was shooting at her to stop shooting and so forth (instead of pulling a Jack and shooting wherever the noise came from). Solid performances and solid writing. I'm pleased.
solarman 02-28-2007, 11:04 PM This is the first episode of the season that has made me remember why I loved watching lost.
Half way through the episode I was happier with this episode then any other this season.
Good flashback, campy kinda story, witty banter "red...neck...man" made me laugh so hard for some reason. I am glad lost is back.
sjb121590 02-28-2007, 11:05 PM A-MAZE-ING episode!!! Reminds me of the old days of Lost. After some recent duds, this renewed any faith I lost in the series (which is honestly not a lot). I loved the beginning, when he was talking to Libby... there were no BIG island revelations, but we learned some things about Hurley (why he started eating... the chicken house...). And with some old favorites returning (Sayid/Locke/Jin/VINCENT!!!) I must admit I loved this episode...
pacejunkie 02-28-2007, 11:06 PM OMG I feel like the season has now officially started. I was practically moved to tears by how good it felt to see everyone together again on the beach. Snarky Sawyer with the beachmates is 1000% better than Sawyer being beaten in a cage. Best Charlie nicknames ever! Oliver Twist! Munchkin! Jiminy Cricket! Bwah!!!!!
I loved the montage where they all came back. Charlie looked so happy again and that little hint of Sawyer looking at Sun and then at Charlie shows you he's feeling a little remorse. It looked like Sawyer felt great being back in his chair.
The Hurley story was wonderful. Two thumbs up!
Betsy 02-28-2007, 11:06 PM I was really enjoying the eppy, but not ready to call it one of my favorites, when the last 15minutes hit......I laughed, I teared up, I shouted for joy, wow! What an amazing eppy - it had everything: humor, drama, hope, Vincent, Sawyer's nicknames, montage......I don't even know where to start.
Sawyer and Jin have great chemistry, LOL - I LOVED Sawyer's little English lesson on how to hold onto a woman. Loved Roger, loved Hurley's slapping Charlie in the face (screw fate, we're going to make our own luck......how great is that?!!! ), LOVED the montage at the end of Sun and Jin, Claire and Charlie, Sawyer alone. Each couple or individual is just simply happy at that moment. I especially loved how C/C just looked so comfortable together...not a romantic moment, but wonderful just the same.
This eppy was a joyride.....and I have to say I'm glad Tricia Tanaka got scorched to a crisp!
ginger 02-28-2007, 11:08 PM Now that's more like it! This is the closest to season one quality I can recall. The sweetness, the humor, the camaraderie... And, wow! Kate actually put facts together (re: Alex) and relayed them to someone who would actually want to know! Whodathunkit.
brermike 02-28-2007, 11:09 PM I really enjoyed this episode!! All the character interactions were spot on and it was nice to see a lighter side to island life. After being held and abused for a week, I would have been just like Sawyer and wanted to relax and have fun. His quote about not having hope on this island explains a lot of his actions (e.g. not going back for Jack, letting Karl go) - he just doesn't care since he has lost his hope. Anyway, good stuff! Two episodes in a row with a musical montage :) Kate, Locke, Sayid, and Danielle are going to kick some butt!
Krystal 02-28-2007, 11:09 PM Very strong episode, great dialogue, feel good storyline, and some dramatic important stuff at the end. And next week's episode looks clutch.
I couldn't agree more with this. This episode had it all, it was fun, lighthearted, had just the right amount of humor and then just a tad bit of drama at the very end which leaves you wanting more. All of the episodes should be like this. This is the Lost from season one and the Lost that I fell in love with.
metallidevils 02-28-2007, 11:10 PM completely agree...LOST has found its roots again, at least for an episode
Islandprincess 02-28-2007, 11:10 PM This is the type of writing which caught the eyes of the viewers in the first season!
And my favs are back front and center (Jin, Hurley, Sawyer and Charlie..even Vincent)!:)
Now, if the writers can just bring back Rose and Sun (more screen time please)!
adr55555 02-28-2007, 11:10 PM Captured the vibe of Season One that has missing for too long.
jscimeca715 02-28-2007, 11:10 PM I agree...it introduced a few new things...roger, the "road"...but I feel it signals a good direction for the rest of the season and the saving jack story arc is going to lead to some big reveals in my opinion. I really feel with the last couple of episodes the creators are starting to get into answer mode. with all the ratings woes they've been having i just got a really good feeling from this episode.
care_n_jim 02-28-2007, 11:13 PM This eppy was a joyride.....and I have to say I'm glad Tricia Tanaka got scorched to a crisp!
I am so dense that I didn't get the name of this episode until I read your last line - I was sitting here thinking - who died - why did they title it ___ is Dead - I was so into it yet I missed the name reference -
DUH!
Lostie97210 02-28-2007, 11:14 PM I love love loved it. Such a shot in the arm. I felt like I was in that van with those boys with the wind in my hair. Excellent episode!
Islandprincess 02-28-2007, 11:14 PM I agree...Lost is BACK in a big way! This is the type of writing the viewers fell in love with the first season.
Krystal 02-28-2007, 11:15 PM This is the first episode of the season that has made me remember why I loved watching lost.
Half way through the episode I was happier with this episode then any other this season.
Good flashback, campy kinda story, witty banter "red...neck...man" made me laugh so hard for some reason. I am glad lost is back.
I couldn't agree more and Hurley has always been one of my favorites. I think this was his best flashback yet.
MinnieVanMommie 02-28-2007, 11:15 PM while I liked and loved the other episodes...
I was hysterical with this one and felt like an old friend came back to see me!@!!@
Dolphinjen 02-28-2007, 11:16 PM It was so cute to see Hurley give Sawyer that huge hug. Nice to see not too much angst. Jorge really got to spread his wings in the acting department...so nice to see. Truly sweet character that you want the best for. I really liked it a lot. LOVED the scene with the four guys and the dog in the van with the music.
Gobi-1 02-28-2007, 11:16 PM I had no problems with the episodes we've had so far but this is by far the best episode of the season and one of the best episodes period. This was just an outstanding episode that just had the perfect balance of all the Lost elements. We got to see all the lostaways, we learned a few more things about DHARMA, lots of comedy and fun, and a payoff a long time coming there at the end.
ame en peine 02-28-2007, 11:17 PM Agreed.... This was like a Homecoming episode.. Sure, the plot didn't really advance too much, yeah maybe it was full of fluff (but great lines...) But it has everyone together again and paved the way for the coming weeks to be full of action.
Lighthearted Hurley epi = calm before storm?
pacejunkie 02-28-2007, 11:18 PM I know, It felt so good to see everyone together again I almost cried. I feel like the season has only just started with this episode. Shame we're already ten episodes into it.
sjb121590 02-28-2007, 11:19 PM Captured the vibe of Season One that has missing for too long.
:clap:Exactly!!! (This eppy had gotten me REALLY excited.) I am so glad I'm not the only one who thought this recaptured that first season. I mean, I loved the second season too... I did get swept away in the story, but BOTH of them had been lacking in the third season, and I am so glad it finally came back.
ortiz34 02-28-2007, 11:19 PM This episode rocked :) it was a "fun" episode
It was a FUN episode, not great, pretty decent, but yes fun
Krystal 02-28-2007, 11:20 PM Truly sweet character that you want the best for. I really liked it a lot. LOVED the scene with the four guys and the dog in the van with the music.
Yes, Hurley is the character that everyone loves. How could you not love him lol? That was also one of my favorite scenes. I was literally grinning from ear to ear. :w00t: This episode deserves a huge
Lockerox 02-28-2007, 11:20 PM OK, they really redeemed themselves with this one! I think they've hit upon the formula that works for me: leave Jack out and have all the rest of the Losties in. Yeah, I could deal with more of that. But really, this episode rocked. All the fun from season 1 and Kate doing something actually useful for a change.
Jealous_Guy 02-28-2007, 11:22 PM It's all about the community, and there was definitely a sense of community here. Even the headless one was like a part of it as well :D
Funny I haven't seen a "Server too busy" screen yet! Tonight of all nights I would have expected to not be able to post at all.
Spirit4ever 02-28-2007, 11:24 PM I Loved this episode! It was very refreshing after last week's epi. I could feel some of the heavy weight lifted off of Hurley and Charlie's shoulder's as they laughed while driving in circles...the car ride literally felt like a roller coaster ride from beginning to end...pure elation!
pacejunkie 02-28-2007, 11:25 PM I loved this ep so much I even loved Sawyer in it. Here I thought I was thoroughly sick of Sawyer by now but it was really all the cage angst I was sick of. I love Sawyer hanging on the beach being funny. I can never get sick of that.
McGuane 02-28-2007, 11:25 PM Could someone give me a map? I am in the freaking LOVED IT thread! Do not know my way around this strange territory. But I want to stay!
I coulda cried! They DO still know how to make a Lost ep! Hurley and Charlie as Thelma & Louise?!? Are you kidding me? Beach reunion with sappy music! Our old beachies. Cheech Marin. Ending montage. Most I have enjoyed an ep since season one.
Loved how at the first Hurley finally appeared to be breaking Lost Taboo #1. We were dancing around the room. Is he, would he, could he be actually sharing information about something that happened in detail with the beachies?!?! But joke's on us, no one who can actually hear is there! Thought this was a great in-joke and did not mind as one who has complained about this frequently, that the joke was on me.
Jarred to reality by lonely Sawyer fading to KATEE! at the end. The Bermuda Triangle of Story rears it's ever present head. But even that did not wipe the grin off my face. Just loved the ep, and am fired up for the next few, before the inevitable fall back down the Jack power trio cliff.
MrCluck 02-28-2007, 11:27 PM Thoroughly enjoyed this epi--brought back that season 1 feel for me. LOVED seeing the real Sawyer again. Forgot how much I enjoyed Hurley and Charlie. One of my top three epi's this season, easily. Thank you, PTB!
In the future, MORE HURLEY!
Jealous_Guy 02-28-2007, 11:27 PM This show desperately needed a double shot of levity, and tonight's episode gave us not just a proper dosage, but an outright deluge. I couldn't be happier, I actually feel like I'm going to survive work in the morning for a change :D
RodimusBen 02-28-2007, 11:27 PM Best episode this season. Period. And this is from someone who has generally enjoyed season 3. Not in Portland topped the mini-arc, FYBE topped that, and now this one has topped both.
Wash away my troubles, wash away my pain, with the rain in SHAMBALA!!!
:jump::gora::clap:
pacejunkie 02-28-2007, 11:27 PM Could someone give me a map? I am in the freaking LOVED IT thread! Do not know my way around this strange territory. But I want to stay!

McGuane! How wonderful to see you here. I was afraid you were "lost" to us forever. So good to have you back. I agree. I almost cried I was so happy. What a feeling. Only Hurley could do that for us. He gave us our hope back too!
MPmom 02-28-2007, 11:28 PM Lighthearted Hurley epi = calm before storm?
Good point! It may have served as a grounding episode, a chance to see the core characters rebond before all hell breaks loose. Plus, for the sake of any 3rd season newbies, a chance to get to know these people. We have been trapped in Otherville since this season started, for the most part. Anyone just starting to watch wouldn't even know these characters.
Great episode! Great acting! Jin (with Hurley) & Sawyer (at the end) both spoke volumes without words.
emmadoggy 02-28-2007, 11:28 PM I LOVED this episode!!! It was one of the funniest episodes ever but also managed to be incredibly poignant and touching at the same time. Everyone above has pretty much already hit all the points that I loved about it - so I don't have much to add. This was simply a wonderful joy to watch. Excellent!
adam8023 02-28-2007, 11:30 PM This episode left me with a positive mood!  :)
RodimusBen 02-28-2007, 11:31 PM Let me tell ya people. This episode had everyone in my Lost viewing group CHEERING. Laughing when Sawyer delivered his one-liners, cheering when the bus started up.
:jump:
Jynes 02-28-2007, 11:31 PM Great episode!!! It was nice to have a break from the mythology.
elfdream 02-28-2007, 11:34 PM Two thumbs up. Any episode with Churlie is a great one.
I didn't even mind Sawyer. Wow..that's a first! :D
HarmHunny 02-28-2007, 11:34 PM loved this episode!! i loved that they found a way to really display sawyer and kate's feelings without making it cheesy or predictable. it was classy, and they didn't overdo it- it was just right, enough to get the point across. i thought it was a good light episode, with a meaningful theme, and i'm just so happy to see my boys again!! i didn't realize how much i missed everyone on the main island, until i got to see locke and sayid and charlie and jin.. i loved tonight!
lostgurl 02-28-2007, 11:34 PM I am SO happy to see everyone in the same episode! FINALLY. I love the boys night out at the dharma van. I'm so happy with this episode. Hurley at Libby's grave was so sad. I loved the reunion at the beach. I loved everything!!
Darbi 02-28-2007, 11:39 PM What a refreshing, hopeful, funny, lighthearted episode. That has been missing for quite a while. Very well done. ;)
Caffreys 02-28-2007, 11:43 PM This could possibly be my all-time favorite epi. Loved the chemistry btwn the guys, loved beach Sawyer, loved Hurley, loved Jin, loved Charlie, loved the Hurley-Sawyer hug, loved it all.
But my absolute FAVORITE part of the show? They actually *TALKED* to each other!!!! Locke and Sayid actually asked relevent questions about Kate's time with the Others and she actually answered them [GASP]! Locke and Sayid follow Kate into the jungle and again, ask logical questions, which Kate again answers. Locke and Sayid tell Kate about the compass bearing. They don't start shooting into the jungle when Danielle shoots at them. Kate tells Danielle about Alex. It was amazing. FINALLY, some decent information is being shared btwn characters.
ZoeWashburne 02-28-2007, 11:44 PM I already posted in the Didn't Like It thread, but there were parts I really did like so I wanted to post here too!
Mainly, I liked Hurley a lot! It's great to have him back in fine form - both with the levity (Redneck man), the kindness (helping Charlie out of his funk) and the seriousness (Libby's grave). There are times when it does feel like they've forgotten the things that only happened like a week or two ago in Lost time (like Libby's death), so it was great to see past events revisited and see that they are still impacting the present.
And yay for Danielle! I'm really excited for the Kate/Sayid/Locke rescue mission!
johnnywishbone 02-28-2007, 11:44 PM Absolutely, Fully, Completely and Totally Entertaining Episode
An outright Comedic-Drama Episode
I laughed just about every time Sawyer opened his mouth
JUMBOTRON! :24:
TabbyRasa 02-28-2007, 11:51 PM I loved it...but then, I always love LOST. :) No need to say why I loved it...
I just did.
Yeah, I also posted in the Didn't Love It, but I just wanted to note here that Cheech Marin was very game, although I thought he had some terrible lines and was put into a bad episode. Not that it didn't have its highlights. And I can sort of understand the rationale behind it all. The psychic was probably the best scene.
LOST Granny 02-28-2007, 11:56 PM So happy to be happy after watching LOST! Good feelings and the twinkle in Charlie's eye, Yeah!
wilekiyote 03-01-2007, 12:09 AM Great episode without all the hoopla thrown in. Kept a smile on my face the entire hour. Keep this up the rest of the season and all will be forgiven.
blondee 03-01-2007, 12:14 AM OMG I feel like the season has now officially started. Bwah!!!!!

The Hurley story was wonderful. Two thumbs up!
I agree 2 thumbs way up for this ep!:p
Sawyer & his nicknames were hilarious & Josh Holloway is so beautiful to look at it kind of was overpowering tonight I got a bit distracted!;)
I do think the ending with Sawyer looking at Jin & Sun & Charlie & Claire was not about his guilt at what happened in TLC with Sun BUT was about Kate & how he was missing her & that was what the scene was meaning to imply by having Sawyer look at the 2 couples together & since they ended it with both Sawyer & Kate in the same shot fading from him to her!;)
LOST Granny 03-01-2007, 12:15 AM I agree totally. It is so good to feel great after watching a LOST episode. I thought I was all about the mythology, but no I guess I love the characters too (maybe not Nicki and Paulo). Great to spend some quality time with Hurley and to see Charley get back in touch with his inner hobbit. He's been way too morbid lately.
pacejunkie 03-01-2007, 12:18 AM I do think the ending with Sawyer looking at Jin & Sun & Charlie & Claire was not about his guilt at what happened in TLC with Sun BUT was about Kate & how he was missing her & that was what the scene was meaning to imply by having Sawyer look at the 2 couples together & since they ended it with both Sawyer & Kate in the same shot fading from him to her!;)
Oh yeah, there's also that. :) I'm sure that was the first more obvious interpretation. But I couldn't help think they were also foreshadowing something to do with the con he and Charlie perpetrated using Sun.
Loved it. Very very very much. Overally, I haven't been let down by any episode of Lost so far - but I gotta say I missed this. The ensemble cast, the great character interactions.
DrUrbino 03-01-2007, 12:28 AM Yeah, I absolutely loved it. It was great to have so many of the original cast back together again and Hurley was classic. Terrific episode. :)
Fickle Fascination 03-01-2007, 12:31 AM Absolutely wonderful episode, it's definitely ranking as one of my favourites. Sweet and funny is a good combination :D
stevenmv5 03-01-2007, 12:40 AM I liked this episode. No it didn't really progress the story much but it was hillarious and fun to watch.
sickotriz 03-01-2007, 12:40 AM I actually laughed out loud at the "Skeletor" scene, somethin about the way they were interacting with that freaking skeleton had me rolling all night. It was just kind of sitting there like one of the guys!
And where the hell has Vincent been? Bout time that dog showed back up!
Last minute of the episode with Kate, Rousseau, Locke, and Sayid was epic. Kate said everything that we would have.
Can't wait until next week!
LostinMemphis 03-01-2007, 12:42 AM Great episode. It was fun without being frivolous. It definitely sets up a lot of stuff for upcoming episodes. Hurley as a kid was great. Cheech was awesome as well. (I kept waiting for him to sing the bus driver song or tell Hurley that "Dave isnt here!) I Loved the meteorite gag and FINALLY Kate breaks the losties code of silence and seeks out Danielle and not only asks for help and information but shares information with her as well.
John_Locke 03-01-2007, 12:54 AM Hurley saves the day... Kudo's to Jorge for pulling this show together again, when all seemed dark. Cant wait for the rest...
Captain Mustapha 03-01-2007, 01:03 AM That was a great LOST moment and it caught me by surprise. Wow... and the French Lady made a dramatic return at the end of the show. It feels like everyone is coming back.
Watching the gang in the van all happy in the van put a big smile on my face. :D Such a feel good scene. One of my favorite ever.
John Burger 03-01-2007, 01:11 AM That was a fun episode.
Perfect post Cylune
Its really was funny. I kind of feel sorry for the people who said they "didnt like it..it didnt tell us enough..not enough clues".
How sad that must be. Character interaction is why all Tv or Movies succeed and this epi was a prime example of the art form. Lost doesnt always succeed in this---and although I love clues and answers--I can do a crossword puzzle to get that
Best line--"House of Pancakes"..although there were so many.
bethislost 03-01-2007, 01:40 AM Finally! Our family is finally back together....well, kinda. I always get excited for the Hurley episodes because they're so much fun. The writing was great and poor Charlie...I think I counted three nicknames from Sawyer in 5 minutes. Wonderful. Someone finally mentioned Michael and Walt - what a relief! The ride in the bus was just precious. I will admit to a few tears of happiness. It wasn't a GREAT epi, but compared to the bottomless pit we've been thrown into lately, it was a keeper!
Beth...;)
lostfan4ever 03-01-2007, 01:43 AM I really enjoyed this episode. Everyone needs a break from intense stuff. I loved the underlying theme of hope. Everyone needs that too. It was great to see some Hurley/Charlie scenes again. They make a great buddy team.
Baileysdad 03-01-2007, 01:54 AM I enjoyed the reunion...seeing Locke and Hurley and Jin...Jumbo Tron hugging the Red Neck...Sawyer and his new drinking buddy Roger...
Didn't like a lot of it...but that is in the other thread...
Light years ahead of last week though...
Guinevere 03-01-2007, 01:57 AM This is one of my favortie episodes! From Hurley telling Libby all that had happened to him and the rest of the bunch to the asteroid/meteor hitting the Chicken Shack to finding out Randy's last name to Kate & Sawyer's return (altho I'm not very happy with Kate in that relationship but this is a love thread...) to Sawyer actually accepting being accepted back into the fold on the beach to the arm with the rabbit's foot key chain to the van and the beer to Hurley trying to gett Charlie to snap out of his funk to Sawyer teaching Jin some English phrases (and Sun insisting that Jin learn English) to Hurley giving Sawyer his own nickname. I think Sawyer was just glad to be back to where folks understood his pop culture references in the nicknames. :) Vincent was back! We have a new cast member. I don't know what his name is but his character's name is Roger. :) Wonder how much gas is in that van?? It was great to hear "Shambala" and Three Dog Night.
Jorge was fantastic both in the "real time" island scenes and in the flashbacks and touched me so much! I love Cheech Marin as his father!
Someone else on this thread mentioned information sharing in this episode and I just about fell out of my chair when that happened! :eek2: What's next? The Others will realize that these poor people were just flying back to the States and didn't choose to be there? :eek2: :eek2:
Kudos to the whole cast and crew on this one! Great job! :clapping:
vangelicmonk 03-01-2007, 02:03 AM Great flash back of Hurley. Some great dialouge and Character development. Hurley faced his fate and so did Charlie, but did they really overcome it? It doesn't matter, because they faced it and faced it together. That is a development. Plus Sawyers seeing he is missing out on the significant other.
Loved this episode. Much needed. Back to the basics.
OnionSandwich 03-01-2007, 02:10 AM I liked it a lot! Especially Red Neck Man and Hurley talking to Libby.
Distress Signal 03-01-2007, 02:15 AM For those that complain that they want season 1ish quality back.....myself included........ ahhhhh.......:14happy:
The ending was so good. But it kept getting better and better as the nighttime storyline went on. The jungle reminded me so much of season 1 like Solitary, creepy awesome, Danielle is back, Alex is mentioned, people react right, Hurley remembers Libby, everything is beautiful. What more can I say??
And it was so funny!! Sawyer and Charlie are back to the way I like them. Maybe not for long though. The montage ending was so heartwarming and wholesome. I love Hurley. Kudos TPTB.... you just made a season 3 ep I want to rewatch at least twice.
themeangel 03-01-2007, 02:18 AM Loved the whole Episode.
The Bonding between the Guys.
Sawyer, his nicknames and his whole "Snarky" Self.
But he seems better, a little tempered.
His teaching Jin, everything he needed to say to a Woman in English! and the Skeleton scene where a riot!
The Charlie and Hurley Stuff. Great. I actually Cheered when the Van Started up!!
And this was the first time this Season When an episode actually made me feel
Good! and Satisfied when it was over.!!!!
TRoss 03-01-2007, 02:24 AM LOVED IT!! LOVED IT!!! LOVED IT!!!
"You make your own luck."
That message has been around forever, but it was SOOO nice to see it demonstrated in such a fantastic episode.
I loved that the underlying message was "hope", too. You love to watch a drama for the trials and tribulations of the characters, but you need to see what they're working toward, once in awhile, to remind you why the journey's so important.
Sorry if that's sappy, but I am just flying high after that ep.
honkyg 03-01-2007, 02:30 AM this past week i posted to the "didn't love it" thread and i'm happy to say i "loved" this episode.
way to go. thanks for getting back on track with a great episode. great writing and i was genuinely touched by the story.
keep it up.
OMG!!!!! Wasn't THAT the Fantastic Four!!!!???!!!!
I LOVED it!
The sweet flashback with Hurley, when you got to see a little more where he came from (let's face it.. with that mom, who wouldn't go crazy???)... I nearly DIED laughing when they showed Randy as his EMPLOYEE!!!! That was great!
Also, on the island... I LOVED the interaction between the characters... ALL of them! It was so great to see them actually enjoy themselves for once....
And... Sorry guys.. still giddy... this is a warning... going to... explode soon....
*SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! !!!!!!!*
cat_spasms 03-01-2007, 02:32 AM Well, It definitely seems Lost fans loved this episode! Already, this thread is 3 times as large as the last one. Hopefully this will send a message to the Lost producers and writers -- WE WANT TO SEE MORE OF THE BEACH FOLK, LESS OF THE OTHERS, AND NO MORE OF THAT DANG LOVE TRIANGLE!!!
I think this has been a great change from the last couple of episodes -- No Others! No Jack! Thank GOD! We actually had some serious character development with one of my favorite characters--Hurley--and also saw tension form between Sawyer and Kate, Jin learning English, plot development of Charlie's "omg I'm gonna die" debacle, and much more! Overall, an A episode.
TRoss 03-01-2007, 02:36 AM this past week i posted to the "didn't love it" thread and i'm happy to say i "loved" this episode.

Just had to have some faith - they said from the beginning they were going to do the mini-arc, and then get back to the beach. ;)
*SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! !!!!!!!*
:24:
I forgot - Shambala is my favorite Three Dog Night song ever - and I am SO glad it was in this ep. I'll enjoy it even more now.
lostfan72 03-01-2007, 04:37 AM It was great to see the old gang back together. Loved Sawyer and Jin together. Why would they want to drink that 30 year old beer though :eek2:
James25 03-01-2007, 04:48 AM I liked how this episode proved that even though Jack generally gets a lot of attention, the strength always has and always will lie in the ensemble -- with or without his presence.
One of my favourite scenes was Kate and Sawyer's moment early on. It seems I always like Kate more when she's with him than without him. He truly brings out the best in her, revealing a loving, humourous woman. Beyond that, the more serious aspects were also interesting.
Sawyer's jokes were at an all-time high too.
I had no problems with the episodes we've had so far but this is by far the best episode of the season and one of the best episodes period. This was just an outstanding episode that just had the perfect balance of all the Lost elements. We got to see all the lostaways, we learned a few more things about DHARMA, lots of comedy and fun, and a payoff a long time coming there at the end.
I had no problems with the other Season 3 episodes either, but I personally don't think this episode was perfectly balanced -- there was definitely more humour than drama -- or that it revealed anything particularly noteable about DHARMA. I could tell that it wasn't really meant to be especially tied to the overall story, but that's fine; it was still a good ep.
flashbackfan 03-01-2007, 05:01 AM Finally, it felt like I was watching the show I used to know and love! It was moving and funny and had the right balance of everything. And the ending with Danielle was awesome! Keep this up, TPTB! Please!!!!
Colonel Sanders 03-01-2007, 05:21 AM Easily the best episode of Season 3......Hurley definitely to the rescue. I missed the chemistry that the original Losties had and it was back with Sawyer, Hurley, Jin, Charlie...and great to see Sayid & Locke back in the flow of things.
:)
Luna_02 03-01-2007, 05:54 AM I really enjoyed this episode, a big improvement on last week :) I especially liked Jin...
One question though - weren't we supposed to get a ping pong match between Sawyer and Hurley/Charlie? I was looking forward to it and was disappointed when it didn't happen. Was it cut or am I out of the loop and it's coming up next week?
jellyfrog 03-01-2007, 06:45 AM Wow, that was a refreshing change! Consistently funny and fun, with great moments for so many characters. I loved seeing Jin off doing something on his own for a change (and who knew how funny he could be?) and this is the first time in a really, really long time that I actually enjoyed Sawyer.
At the same time, Hurley is one of the characters that I connect with most emotionally, even when the events that are happening in his story are absurd. This episode was not only great fun, but really touching.
I wouldn't care if TPTB never gave a single answer if they consistently came up with stories that I could enjoy and care about as much as this one.
palomino_grl78 03-01-2007, 06:54 AM I loved this episode. Vincent is back! Yesss! I thought it answered some questions that everyone has been bringing up, like, why doesn't Hurley seem to care about Libby dying, where is Vincent, and when will Rousseau return. I thought it had it's original creepy elements with Roger and to me it kind of laid to rest some of the theories about Adam and Eve being Losties from the future or past or something. Because obviously it's not out of the ordinary to find skeletal remains just about everywhere on the island, so perhaps the A/E aren't as significant (in a time travel type thing). So I am starting to feel better about things. Hurley was great in this episode. This was one of my S3 favorites.
Anyways...who can't love an epi with Cheech?
UncleHenry 03-01-2007, 07:04 AM Last week, I posted in the other thread-- the thread of frustration.
This week, its different. I didn't particularly like the meteor scene, or vincent showing up with an arm in his mouth, but the episode paid off big time for me when the car started, and everyone hopped in. The moment that the camera showed the dog riding in the car with everyone, I broke into a broad smile. That scene was pitch perfect and I strangely felt relieved.
Hurley is a great character in a cast full of great characters, and I enjoyed his moment of emotional leadership.
Good episode.
Jacobs Creek 03-01-2007, 07:25 AM One of the best episodes in a LONG time imo.
Funny, creepy and plot orientated.
I need to watch it again
I absolutely loved this episode.
This is lots of the things I wanted to say so I'm quoting it..
Didn't the Australian lady also tell him you make your own luck when he eventually go to see her?
And yes there are significant things although I'm sure many 'jar half empty' people will be moaning that it wasn't heavy enough. Yes, I know they are entitled to their opinions, but so are those of us who enjoyed it.
Hugo's dad's bike that seems to have a Y and an A scratched out from the maker's name is left with the name of a Far Eastern legendary fisherman's wife who went out to look for her husband each day, not knowing he had been lost at sea.
I bet a lot of things will come up in future episodes that seem insignificant now and we'll be thinking, 'Oh, yes, I remember that in Hurley's episode'
:)
100%
Forgot to say, I thought it was a great bit of casting. That young boy looked so like Hugo.
lostlocke 03-01-2007, 07:29 AM Great episode. We really needed this. Hurley is a great character and his flashbacks this week were interesting. This episode was hilarious, I really enjoyed Charlie, Hurley, Jin and Sawyer together!! The ending was great too, when Kate tells Danielle about Alex. From start to finish this was a really wonderful episode and my sis and I really had fun watching it.
driveshaft76 03-01-2007, 07:43 AM Ok, gotta say I loved it. 2nd best episode for me this season behind FBYE. Great to see, especially after last weeks giant turd of an episode.
Big props go out to Cheech who I thought was fantastic. Sawyer and Hurley were outstanding.
"Skeletor" and "Red Neck Man" made my night.
As much as I liked this episode, next weeks episode looks awesome.
"Dude, Roger was on a beer run!"
Blue Coral 03-01-2007, 07:44 AM I loved the episode! It was fabulous. Funny, sad, awkward moments...more funny moments than not.
It was a great episode!!
pacejunkie 03-01-2007, 07:55 AM Wow, that was a refreshing change! Consistently funny and fun, with great moments for so many characters. I TOTALLY agree jelly. This is the best of what a character episode should be. It's the reason I watch. I loved it when Hurley admitted to dead!Libby that he was scared and that he'd ben scared the whole time he'd been there except when he was with her. Oh. Oh. and Aw. I needed to hear a character say that because up until now no one seems that scared ever. It was good to be reminded how these characters are feeling inside about their circumstances even if they don't admit it to each other. It made Hurley seem so real.
And I agree with your comment about Sawyer. He was awesome. He does this stuff much better than the romance and the angst.
100%
I really enjoyed this episode, a big improvement on last week :) I especially liked Jin...
One question though - weren't we supposed to get a ping pong match between Sawyer and Hurley/Charlie? I was looking forward to it and was disappointed when it didn't happen. Was it cut or am I out of the loop and it's coming up next week?
That's next week. You should go back and add spoiler font.
cylune 03-01-2007, 08:16 AM It was great to see the old gang back together. Loved Sawyer and Jin together. Why would they want to drink that 30 year old beer though :eek2: Hey, beer is beer and they're on a deserted island. I'd drink it too. :D
thedaveeyres 03-01-2007, 08:32 AM Superb episode, really enjoyed it. Next week looks like a corker too.
Semisan 03-01-2007, 08:52 AM Ah!!!! Been a while since I was in this thread!!!! It really felt like a season 1 episode!
Loved it!
Best of the season so far? Definatly my favourite. Great character stuff (as always tends to be the case with Hurley - every time he has a major role I have to reconsider whether Sayid is my favourite character anymore) and everybody actually remembered stuff that had previously happened! We saw most of the characters, even those with minor roles, getting along with their daily routines (it just feels nice when they're not totally excluded like they have been). We also got a glimpse of the next episode with the Kate "B-story", which was nice.
And I was actually interested in Sawyers feelings for Kate at the end too! Amazing! I kinda like the fact that Kate has already began to move on, wheras Sawyer has started to perhaps realise his error.
Overall a great episode, after last weeks dissapointment, I'm excited about Lost again. All is well once more.
flyingv 03-01-2007, 09:08 AM I absolutely loved this episode!! I am still grinning like an idiot ten minutes later. The scene where Hurley was talking to Libby was so touching and so real it almost brought a tear to my eye, but there was also plenty to smile about. Hurley's Mum covering Jesus' ears when she said she had 'needs' was too funny!
The 'lads day out' was also great fun ('Dude, that beer's been here like since Rocky 3, maybe even 2' pure class) - and like a lot of other posters said, we REALLY needed that! Sawyer teaching Jin the only 3 things a woman needs to hear and calling Hurley the International House of Pancakes was hilarious. Brilliant acting and dialogue throughout, and the ending (hopefully) sets us up nicely for a bit more juicy jungle trekking action soon.
Brilliant episode! :D
QueenElessar 03-01-2007, 09:27 AM DEFINITELY my favourite episode of the season!!! Maybe my favourite episode since season 1. It was about time that the darkness was lifted and we got to see our favourite characters having a litle FUN!
GAH! I just can't express how much I loved the humour and the whole thing!
I think Lost was best when the episodes were simply stories about the people on the island, and there was just an air of mystery about the island at the same time. I never really cared what that air was all about, I just thought it was cool. I didn't want answers...just to spend more time watching my favourite characters. Lately every episode is all "who are these people, why are they here...what's going on???" You can't avoid asking those questions when mystery is all you're given.
I don't know...it was just fantastic!
Lockefan 03-01-2007, 09:36 AM While it wasn't one of the greatest LOST episodes in terms of advancing the story, suspense, incredible plot, twists, turns, etc., it was really great in terms of a "small" episode, with all the opportunities that affords for showcasing relationships between characters, individual character development, humor, etc. So even though it wasn't memorable for plot, to me it is one that I will remember fondly for the humor, the characters and the relationships.
I absolutely LOVE Josh Holloway's portrayal of Sawyer. I think that was a brilliant piece of casting. Originally, Sawyer was going to be a northern con artist, but the casting team was flexible and willing to reconceive a character around an actor, if they saw an actor before them that really sported "it". I think that is the key reason why the casting on LOST is so brilliant, the best I've ever seen. Anyway, I can't imagine anyone else as Sawyer but Josh, he is absolutely brilliant and masterful at being concurrently tragic and hilarious. I LOVED when he went after Hurley, loaded for bear, angry as all get out, and when Hurley was so thrilled to see him and gave him a huge, long-lasting hug, Sawyer couldn't help but be moved by it and his anger kinda melted away and he said, yeah, yeah, it is good to see you too, (insert some hilarious nickname that I can't recall just now). Also on the theme of relationship development between characters, I loved how glad Jin and Sawyer were to see each other. They have been through a lot together and again, we saw Sawyer let his defenses down a little and just dig the brotherly love. And Hurley and Charlie, their friendship has really developed into one with a lot of trust...and once again we see how Hurley has this unassuming ability to know just what an individual or the group needs at any given time, be it a golf course or a death-defying VW ride down a rocky hill. Whether Charlie is really fated to die or not (and I hope it is the latter!), Hurley de-freaked him out vis-a-vis Desmond's comments, because he faced death and challenged it by embracing life in the form of an exhilerating "Thelma and Louise" moment with Hurley. Hurley has been a psych. patient and, interestingly, I think he also has potential as a sort of "therapist" for both individuals and groups/"societies". He isn't a Locke-esque shaman or anything but he is insightful and knows what needs to be done sometimes at key moments. It often has to do with when people need "fun", but he also is the one who came up with taking the "census", for example. He's usually unassuming ("good time Hurley", as he once put it), yet sometimes he becomes this sort of unexpected leader. Very cool.
I also continue to love how Sawyer is always accidentally revealing how intelligent, well-read, and sensitive he is deeeeeeeeeeeeeep down inside *lol*! You gotta love a tough guy who reads "Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret" and harks back to episodes of "Little House on the Prairie"...and I do (love him, that is!). And he was in rare nickname-bestowing form in this episode, too *LOL*! Even though the episode was Hurley-centric and Hurley is one of my fave-o-faves, Sawyer is also a fave and I was really enjoying him mightily last night.
Good, warm, sweet episode. And great ending with Kate finding Danielle and telling her about Alex!!! The look on Mira Furlan's face when Kate said that a girl, around age sixteen, had helped them escape "...and her name was 'Alex'". Mira is an amazing actor. She doesn't have to say a word. Her facial expressions have the power to move us to tears without her uttering a peep.
The plot of this one may not have been memorable, but the characters and the relationships certainly were, and those are really the heart of LOST.
JanesAddiction72 03-01-2007, 09:36 AM Gosh that was just a beautiful episode! I loved it. Hurley rocks, it was so good to see Hurley back to what he does best making people realize that hey it sucks that we're here but we still have to have our fun moments and have hope. Gosh that scene with all four of them riding in the van was just gorgeous, it was great to see them let go for a minute and just have fun! Wooo hooo Rousseau is back, I have always liked her , she is interesting and I so want her to see Alex. I really do hope she will help Kate and the rest of the losties.
jellyfrog 03-01-2007, 09:43 AM OMG!!!!! Wasn't THAT the Fantastic Four!!!!???!!!!
Oh, I love that! Fantastic Four. That's going to need to go on an icon.
pacejunkie 03-01-2007, 09:56 AM Oh, I love that! Fantastic Four. That's going to need to go on an icon.
You do that and you'll have 5 out of my 6 userpics. ;)
I think that joyride represented so much and was so important for each of them. They had each been through such a bad time recently. Sawyer's imprisonment and torture, Jin almost losing Sun, Charlie's fears of death, losing Eko and almost losing Claire, and Hurley losing Libby and feeling responsible for all the death and abductions they've suffered. They all needed to just let loose and enjoy. It reminded me of when Sawyer and Kate jumped in the waterfall pool and he said "After all that's happened, don't we deserve something good?" It was that and it was more. Hurley keeping the car for 17 years showed as angry as he was he never lost hope that one day his dad would return or that things would turn out all right for him. The hippie van was the same hope. Think good and it will be good is the key to breaking the curse.
It felt good to see them all have fun after all that's happened. And before it turns bad again which we know it will. This is Lost.
EkoJunior 03-01-2007, 10:33 AM Dug the episode. Very well structured in my opinion. I had no real complaints.
StayinLost 03-01-2007, 10:35 AM Ok, so where to begin? This was just such an uber excellent episode. I don't think I have ever had so much fun watching this show before. I have to say, most every Hurley centric episode has been fun to watch, but with this one, I was actually sad when it ended!
When the VW bus was finally pop started and Shambala came blaring from the speakers, it was such a triumphant moment. Not only because of the upbeat tone to the song, and it being one of my fav 3 Dog night songs, but because these lyrics stuck out to me:
Everyone is helpful, everyone is kind
On the road to Shambala
Everyone is lucky, everyone is so kind
On the road to Shambala
It just kind of drives home the whole theme to the episode for me. The initial surprised look on Hurley's face when Sawyer popped around the corner of the bus was priceless, Sawyers interaction with Roger, Charlie coming to grips and calling Shotgun, Hurley's convo with Libby, the questions and answers. Just a wonderful well rounded episode for me. This is one I will want to watch many times over, it will also give me the boost I needed to dig back in to the heavier episodes to come. Kudos to TPTB. Excellent job!
pacejunkie 03-01-2007, 10:42 AM The first 9 episodes really were deressing weren't they? We so needed this boost as the Losties did too. After the imprisonment, the torture, the polar bears, the angst, the death, the forced labour, the brainwashing, the drownings, the death prophecys, the beatings, the trials, I'm literally exhausted. I think that's what's been feuling the bitterness. So much violence and despair has caused us all to lose hope. I've really felt weighed down this season, I hope we continue to have at least small moments like this to keep our spirits up.
Bosshogg 03-01-2007, 10:55 AM It was nice to have fun fun watching an episode, as opposed to being frustrated or confused as previous episodes have left me.
It kind of reminded me to not try to take everything about the show so seriously and have fun and enjoy the ride.
craigmeaders 03-01-2007, 11:05 AM I found last night's episode hilarious. Even though not much was answered, I think it was an awesome episode because of the humor
MaggieRyanJr 03-01-2007, 11:15 AM I found last night's episode hilarious. Even though not much was answered, I think it was an awesome episode because of the humor
This may end up being my favorite episode of the entire series. My wife came downstairs twice to ask why I was laughing to hard. The characterization and humor were spectacular. I'm the kind of person who prefers questions to answers anyway, so I was happy to get away from any kind of answers...
piscescat 03-01-2007, 11:17 AM It just felt right to have a more lighthearted episode to give us all a break from the killings, torture and head games. And it was really good to see more of the regular cast. I can't wait for next week - looks pretty intense!
The Great One 03-01-2007, 11:35 AM One of the things that made me such a fan of the show was the interaction of all these different actors who work so well together. It was the essence of the show, and it cam back a little last night. Even if the appearance of Desmond, Paulo & Nikki were brief, they were not forgotten either. It was nice to see Sun and Claire and Locke and Sayid and even Rousseau. Well done.
Dezdemona 03-01-2007, 12:01 PM I loved this episode to little bitty bits! It had HEART, masses and masses of heart! (Something SIASL lacked entirely.)
Loved Hurley... every single minute he was onscreen. Loved the way his flashbacks were cut into the island story and how relevant they were.
Loved the "boys with cars" segments, especially them whooping it up while they (and Vincent) ride around in circles - THIS is real human behavior I can relate to!
Loved the free will versus determinism theme running through the character stories. Very well woven in for Hurley, Charlie, Jin, Kate, and Sawyer.
Loved seeing how much Sawyer has changed, even while pretending to himself that he's the same old EMFH tiger-don't-change-his-stripes kind of guy. They stole his food, his books, his porn and even drank his whiskey! And he hollered at them for it, real loud. Then they apologized and he went off to holler at culprit #3, except that Hurley was hugging him too hard so he gave up on the hollering altogether. Just a wonderfully written sequence.
Loved the way Kate tried to reach out to Sawyer, loved the way we were shown how he still has no hope of being any more than he is. "I've got nothin' to say sorry for." ... except my whole miserable life. He has no "hope", no "motivation". I loved the regretful glances and the camera fade from sad but static Sawyer to determined and motivated Kate was beautifully done. I'm hoping he'll get motivated when he finds out she's gone off on a dangerous mission all on her own. I continue to love and root for this couple. They have heart.... lots of it, and their present separation is poignant. :inlove:
And of course, I Loved Kate telling Danielle about Alex. Now that was some way to end an episode! Wow.
This episode totally rocked. It was a breath of fresh air and had everything in it that made the great episodes great. Keep it coming.
Just to say this will end up being one of my all-time favorite eps of LOST. Major kudos to TPTB!!!
Talon 03-01-2007, 12:56 PM Hi, everyone. I have been reading the messages on this board for the past 2 weeks, and thought it was time to register and chat with those who love Lost as much as I do :)
Much like other posters, I love Lost, the concept, the characters, and the mystery. I have watched alot of TV series in my day, but season 1 of Lost was the best season of any TV show, ever...in my opinion :)
I think the cast is excellent. As Season 3 started, and we were getting more drawn into the Others world, with no questions answered and more questions posed, I began to get the feeling that the writers were not sure where the show was going. I love waiting and letting the mysteries slowly reveal themselves, but you get to the point where it seems the writers really don't know how to progress, and end up creating things as they go (ie hate the Jack tatoo flashback, didn't even care about it).
After being disappointed in the Others themselves, I saw "Flashes Before Your Eyes"- came across as very cool and interesting, but I felt again like it didn't really reveal anything, and that it just kept you hanging.
Last week's SIASL was such a horribly written filler episode that, like many others here, I was getting very upset at the TPTB, and was wondering if the magic of Lost would ever come back.
It's too early to say how this season will end up, but I was VERY happy with this episode! Though I agree it was strange to see the reunion with the beach-losties and Kate and Sawyer (I like the one person who said it seemed like they had come back from a long vacation, lol), there were many other things done well.
The interaction with Sawyer, Jin, Hurley, and Charlie was great. The 4 guys finally having some fun. Always a fan of seeing the ensemble cast interacting- it was long overdue!
I liked Hurley hugging Sawyer when he was angry, and how Sawyer bonded again with Jin and Hurley. It was funny to see how Sawyer and Charlie interact- they are not very friendly, but seeing Charlie talk about drinking the bottle of wine/champagne?, and smiling as he was seeing Sawyer upset- that was fun.
I do feel Sawyer is much better when not in the Kate/romance setting. On his own, he seems to be his charming, carefree self. If the writers could get Sawyer and Kate to be together without all the baby arguments and silliness, then it may work. But I am happy with Sawyer being with the guys for now- the romance triangle just seems to bring out the worst in those characters.
I have missed seeing Jin, too- it was great seeing him again. I was smiling the whole night seeing Jin, Sawyer, Hurley, and Charlie hang out. The nicknames, though alot, were spot-on and very amusing- this is the Sawyer I love to see.
So overall, this was a light episode that allowed us all to breathe and have some fun. Next week looks promising, but we will see.
Plus, loved the music montage at the end- well done!
qwikgta 03-01-2007, 01:01 PM Best one this season....hands down.
150cc 03-01-2007, 01:16 PM Great episode overall. It was nice to actually be able to laugh at the episode for a change. Hurley remains my second favorite character (after old man Locke), and this episode may have even made him my first. The end of the episode, driving around in the vanagon was absolutely great. Well done and a fun episode to watch.
Oh, and it was about time we saw old man Locke again!
jaybeezy513 03-01-2007, 01:50 PM Great episode.. really enjoyed it. For sure by far the best episode of the new season..
It was cool to see all the old ensemble back to normal, now they just need Jack back.. although it's kind of nice for the focus to be off him and the others for awhile.
Hi, everyone.
Always a fan of seeing the ensemble cast interacting- it was long overdue!

great post, I'd love to read more from you.
I loved this episode because of what you said ,but also because there's no Jack in it.

Big Hugs. My Lost is back:jump: .
Best espisode of the season.
Carlo210 03-01-2007, 03:17 PM Anyone else love how Sawyer got so embarassed when he talked about Little House on the Prarie? He called it "Little House" like it was all cool. :D
Kate: *laughing* You call it "Little House"?
Sawyer: *embarassed* I had mono when I was a kid! Missed 2 months of school, only had one channel on my tube!
Hahaha.
erin1679 03-01-2007, 03:19 PM I thought the episode was great. It was a welcome change from all the dark episodes. I laughed out loud quite a few times.. Red...neck....man LMAO
jfugate 03-01-2007, 03:21 PM I liked this episode for a few very important reasons. 1. Hurley is one of my favorite characters. I love the whole numbers thing. Trying to decide what is fate, destiny, or chance is intriguing. He is a character that you just have to pull for because things are dumped on him over and over again. He isn't quite an everyman because he is a millionaire, but he is pretty close, because he is always getting poured on, even when really good things happen. 2. I like Sawyer better when he is being clever and witty than when he is trying to prove that he is tough and trying to fight Pickett. Teaching Jin three lines that women will all love to hear was funny. I am okay with his longing to be with someone (Kate), but his character is much better when it is used like the dirty uncle that everyone has that tells everyone dirty jokes at the dinner table. 3. Finally, and most importantly, I love the direction that Kate is going. At the end of last season and for the first part of this season, she played the stereotypical female "Oh just hold me," role a bit too much. She was depicted as weak and over-emotional. Now, she clearly has changed into a dynamic leader that wants to get things done. Often female characters can come off as abrasive and out to prove a point that women can do everything a man can do. Here, she is just out to get things done, not because she has a point to prove to anyone, but because she truly wants to get something accomplished. She is a strong female that isn't annoying. It is nice to see. Her whole thing was, "I am doing this. You are either with me or you aren't. Now move so I can get going." Nice.
Talon 03-01-2007, 03:24 PM Welcome Talon :wavey:

______
Thanks for the welcome, sk8! I appreciate it :-). I will enjoy seeing everyone's posts, and seeing where this season goes.
sk8, I haven't been liking Jack much, so it was nice to have a break from him, lol. His anger, possessiveness, and need to always be right will many times irritate me. If the writers are able to show him learning more about himself, and seeing his own faults, then maybe I could sympathize with him more. I am not able to feel much for his character at the moment- he just comes across as very righteous, and sometimes, too petty and stubborn.
I am most excited about seeing the ensemble together again.
Either way, can't wait to see what happens in the next few episodes...
irish lost fan 03-01-2007, 03:36 PM Im loving the episodes with less Jack in it.
Tricia Tanaka was brilliant. It had an entertaining flashback and great on island action.
So much better than last weeks atrocity.
I loved this episode to little bitty bits!
:shesaid:
I just loved this epi!
way to GO Hurley!:box:
Lost_In_NJ 03-01-2007, 04:10 PM From the opening scene, to the closing credits....LOVED IT!!

Yes, Carlo- that was hilarious! Just to see the look on Kate's face, and then Sawyer's reaction to her laughing at him- good stuff. Seeing Charlie and Desmond apologizing for taking Sawyer's stash was funny too... ;-P
Ketch22 03-01-2007, 04:57 PM I enjoyed the episode. Like Hurley, I think the viewers were yearning for just a little bit of fun, and this episode delivered that.
And that is why Sawyer is my fav. character. Made me laugh from start to finish.
sock_heaven 03-01-2007, 06:08 PM Great episode! I've always liked Hurley's eppys--so funny and so sad at the same time. You can't help loving the guy (and feeling a bit sorry for him). And his mom cracks me up with her solid gold Jesus (so over the top) whose ears she covers when she wants to talk about her "needs".... :rotflmao2: Oh man....
outta_control 03-01-2007, 06:13 PM Really good episode. Was way way way better than Stranger In A Strange Land. It was enjoyable and fun. Interesting how they talk to Rousseau in the end. Great episode!!!
chill.zone 03-01-2007, 06:36 PM I was touched by this episode. Hurley's tearful sentiments towards Libby. The vulnerable moment between Hurley and his dad just before he takes off for Australia (wasn't sure whether to believe that his dad really would be okay with Hurley giving away all the money, but I wanted to believe it). Kate reaching out to Sawyer, trying to maintain a connection (though I'm not sure exactly what she wants an apology for - anyone figure that out?). Hurley overwhelming Sawyer's usual bad attitude with a big bear hug, and Sawyer actually breaking down and receiving it. Hurley forcefully shocking Charlie out of his despair, getting him to man up and take control of his destiny.
Awesome character episode! Maybe the best yet, IMO. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
And I agree with some of the other posters. Lost isn't just about revelations. Sit back and enjoy the many facets of Lost. If we learn everything, it's over. Take it ALL in, not just the facts about the nature of the Island and it's inhabitants. Enjoy the unfolding.
NotAnOther89 03-01-2007, 08:43 PM Have watched this episode twice so far and in my opinion its just great. So much of it is hilarious and just overall fun. Nice change of pace and anyone that hates this episode is really missing out on the fun of watching Lost and I feel bad for them they don't have the same awesome experience I do watching it.
blondee 03-01-2007, 09:38 PM Best of the season so far?
I agree that it was a great episode but respectfully diagree about the whole Kate already moving on part!
That was never a feeling I got, only that Kate needed to do this out of her own guilt at leaving Jack behind which was motivation enough!
I believe this ep showcased more the fact that Kate & Sawyer do truly love each other as was plainly evident in the return to the beach scene where they used slow motion to enhance the way they were looking at each other without the other knowing because it clearly implied that both are far from being over what they feel for each other & those longing looks displayed that perfectly!:p
It set up their story so well & left both feeling the other may be lost to them when you actually know where it is all heading upon Kate's return!;)
TPTB did not leave them both with hurt & unresolved feelings for nothing!
Hurley & Sawyer were totally adorable & Josh Holloway has to be the most beautiful man alive, I swear to God!
ToKyO 03-01-2007, 09:57 PM I liked this episode a LOT. Good change of pace, nice and fun..
Also, the part where they all jumped in the van and started driving around was one of my favorite moments from LOST ever...it was so great.
Ekosystem2112 03-01-2007, 10:29 PM Man, for the first time in ages I actually enjoyed an episode. The opressive, bleak mood that began in season 2 and reached its apex in season 3 was finally lifted. No one was beat up, bloodied or injured (well except maybe Sawyer's foot ... and Tricia Tanaka... :eek2: ) and no one was a prisoner just waiting to be tortured. You could almost feel the ocean breeze again.
Great to see Jin and Sawyer share a moment. These guys went through a lot at the end of season 1/beginning of season 2 together. Then Sawyer went all "new sheriff in town" on the losties and it seemed that they weren't buddies anymore... Really great stuff. And simple, you know? This episode had lots of great "little" moments.
Kudos to Edward Kitsis & Adam Horowitz... I never would have thought that they would write an episode I would actually like!
Were we witnessing the re-emergence of the foreshadowing of relevant subplots? The dart, Sun telling Jin she will only speak to him in english, Sawyer missing his stash, the VW van and Roger the Work Man... good stuff that can create an emotional backbone to the season or give emotional continuity from episode to episode (much like Sawyer meeting Jack's dad, Michael and Jin's friendship, Sun not wanting Jin to leave on the raft, etc.). Hopefully this things will not be forgotten.
And Vincent.... finally.
Can season 3 be salvaged? Well, this episode was definitely a step in the right direction.
Carlo210 03-01-2007, 11:03 PM Agreed, Ekosystem (nice name, by the way:D ).
MrsJamesFord 03-01-2007, 11:49 PM    ;) I REALLY LOVED the latest LOST episode Tricia Tanaka is Dead! Hurley-centric episodes are always good ones and this one was no exception! It was touching, light, happy and informative. Jorge got lots of great comments on his MySpace page from his friends and I'm proud to say I'm one of them. Keep up the good work!
beerbeastredux 03-02-2007, 12:15 AM I gotta agree. This was a damn fun episode. Felt like a season one episode! What really did it for me was the humor. It needed it.
gigil115 03-02-2007, 01:40 AM  Loved it, loved it! Almost forgot about the great chemistry of this awesome group of actors. Hope they keep the momentum going for the rest of the season. Oh, and please rescue Jack ASAP.

Classic Lost Epi imo. Reminded me of the first season and thats the Lost I love !
LOVEd the hug between Hurley and Sawyer

Loved it all !
Dr_Do_Right 4 8 15 16 23 42 03-02-2007, 11:14 AM Great episode... I think we needed this "lighter" episode. Some great lines in there and a very interesting flashback. :41:

Bones 03-02-2007, 11:43 AM Excellent episode!. We still learned new things like the road map but it was nice to see some hope and some fun. Classic Sawyer nicknames.
Favorite line:
Charlie to Hurley: Chase the dog with the skeletal arm into the creepy jungle..you be my guest.:coolorng:
tracey1302 03-02-2007, 11:50 AM Really enjoyed this week's episode a lot more than last week's.
It was nice to be on the beach again, felt like the normal day to day life of Season One with the more dramatic stuff going on in the background (ie, Kate going back for Jack)
The episode was really light hearted and funny and lord knows we've needed that after the intensity of Ben's operation.
Bravo! :)
Trevski 03-02-2007, 12:47 PM One of the funniest ones. I really enjoyed it, loved the chemistry....BUT I will say that the Hurley - Sawyer reunion was both great to watch and rather unrealistic in the extreme. Surely Hurley would have wanted to know what the hell happened straight off?. But stuff it....I'll happily suspend my disbelief, after all they were trying to lever a Dharma initiative camper van in the middle of smokey's whispering jungle....not exactly reality!
Krystal 03-02-2007, 01:08 PM BUT I will say that the Hurley - Sawyer reunion was both great to watch and rather unrealistic in the extreme. Surely Hurley would have wanted to know what the hell happened straight off?
Sometimes, it's the time frame in which I find it hard to actually believe these character interactions. Wasn't it just two weeks ago (island time) that Hurley and Sawyer were rumbling around in his tent after Sawyer called him fat lol? For someone who didn't appear to like him very much, Hurley sure gave Sawyer a pretty chummy hug. Overall, I enjoyed this episode very much, but the Hurley-Sawyer hug, while nice, did seem a bit off.
ravenmoon 03-02-2007, 02:15 PM This episode was just fantastic! It had such a positive vibe about it, and I thought all the characters featured acted in character and not like some bizarre version of themselves.
Hurley did what he does best, provided comedy, but with a sweet, sad and poignant edge. his flashback developed his character, gave us information we didn;t already know, and provided with soem more interesting links between other characters, because he's yet another on a long list of those with "daddy issues." This is how a flashback should be, either provide us with new information on the character which helps us better understand their motorvations or advance the plot of the show. Did the flashback advance the plot or provide us with answers to big mysteries? No. But it did prove that good writing to enhance a popular character does go down well with fans.
Charlire was back, actually having more a season 1 charlie feel to him, which I loved at s1 charlie was one of my fave characters. He had some funny lines (bieng a fellow brit I always loved his dry humour) and you really felt sorry for him. I loved it when Hurley slapped him and charlie was all shocked, great interaction between two characters that have such a great dynamic.
Jin is such a great character as well, and along with Claire is one of the most under used characters of the show. I loved seeing him independant of Sun, creating relationships off his own back, like he did with Michael and sawyer on the raft.
Which bring me to my very favourite, sawyer. I have to say it makes me so pleased that so many people who genrally don;t like his character (pacejunkiie and elfdream I'm thinking of you in particular ) enjoying his interactions in this episode. I love seeing him develop relationships with someone other than Kate. I think what people liked about sawyer in this episode is that he's back to his snarky, sarcastic, cocky self, but there's a edgte of softness underneath it. The nicknames are more a joke than meant to hurt, his banter is more obviously more for fun than distancing himself. I know it sounds cheesy and shippery of me to say it, but I think this has alot to do with his interactions with Kate, so even if they donb;t last as a couple I think the whole thing has done him a lot of good. The sawyer/hurley hug was cute, and made total sense considering how upset and guilty hurley was feeling that he had been let go and worrying what had happened to the other three, he was just so pleased to see sawter and to feel there was good things happening that any bad feeling between them was forgotten. I also loved the way sawyer just visably softened towards him. A great scene by excellant actors.
I was also pleased with the skate stuff as well. I think it will do both characters, and the show itself some good to have them apart after how intense their scenes have been. kate needs time apart to figure how she really feels (and have some kick *** season one kate action with sayid and locke). People need the old kate back, the one who is headstrong and fiesty and kicks some serious ***, not simpering "who do I fancy this week" kate. Everyone was getting tierd of her. We need a break from the romance for a while, and if the writers intend to make skate a couple when kate returns, hopefully they can just get on with it rather than them bickering all the time  Plus sawyer need some relationships and storylines other than kate and this time apart looks like it's going to achieve it!
So in summary to my ramblings, this was a MUCH needed episode, and it reminded us all why we love lost, and why we watched it in the first place. yes, we all want answers, at least some anyway, but when the character interaction as an ENSEMBLE is this good, people don;t need them quite as much. This episode also set up some excellant storylines with kate/locke.sayid and danielle, which I think will satisfy many people, whiclst sawyer's return to the beach has marked the beachioes always being in the episodes, even if it's the B plot, it's still a plot nonetheless!
Horaay, keep it up Lost, you have given me back a lot of my faith that went down the toiler with the abomination of an episode we were subjected to last week. And I have to say that it was nice not to have Jack in the episode, maybe the break from his character will do those people like myself who are sick of him being in the spot light some good and not mind him as much when he returns!
Carlo210 03-02-2007, 02:24 PM Sometimes, it's the time frame in which I find it hard to actually believe these character interactions. For someone who didn't appear to like him very much, Hurley sure gave Sawyer a pretty chummy hug. Overall, I enjoyed this episode very much, but the Hurley-Sawyer hug, while nice, did seem a bit off.
Sawyer did soften up after he realized how Hurley got offended. Hurley also had a positive mindset, so it wouldn't have made sense for him to hold some kind of grudge or offense against Sawyer after all they've been through.
Annamorgana 03-02-2007, 04:06 PM I love how Hugo is mostly the voice of the audience.
When he said that we needed something to do and have fun, that was the way I was feeling. I love season 3, but this episode was a great relief; just not having worry about all the crap that was happening and just have fun man!
The DharmaMobile was excellent! I can't wait for our dudes to go on a road trip or something.
Helen_ 03-02-2007, 04:16 PM The episode is just brilliant! And I didn't expect that at all. I wasn't really looking forward to it since it's a Hurley's one and I don't like his episodes very much, except Numbers. But TTID was soooo good and funny! Hurley, Charley, Jin and Sawyer were amazing together!:)
I was happy to see Kate and Sawyer back on the beach with all the survivors. And the ending was beautiful.
HurleyForPresident 03-03-2007, 10:01 AM Yeah, i really loved this one, probably my favourite from Season 3 so far. My hat's off to the Lost creators, great stuff, keep it up:rolleyes:
lostislife 03-03-2007, 02:35 PM This episode was LOST gold and remenisced on the good old days of season 1. Absolutely loved it!!!!!
Jealous_Guy 03-03-2007, 06:15 PM One other thing I really liked about this episode as I thought about it later.. in the scene where the four of them are cruising around in the van, we have an unlikely combination of nationalities together there -- Sawyer the American, Jin the Korean, Charlie the Brit and Hurley the Hispanic. Only thing missing was Mr. Eko, although there's really no telling how he would have reacted
TRoss 03-03-2007, 06:38 PM One other thing I really liked about this episode as I thought about it later.. in the scene where the four of them are cruising around in the van, we have an unlikely combination of nationalities together there -- Sawyer the American, Jin the Korean, Charlie the Brit and Hurley the Hispanic. RORO35 03-03-2007, 09:47 PM Well I have to get my two cents in........This was an outstanding episode. Much needed after the last few have been so serious dealing with the Others. Hurley has to be one of my favorites as far as the characters go. Seeing the original characters back in their own envirment and still trying to figure it all out. The thing to remember from the previous seasons is this: as was said before the calm before the storm and each season finale leaves you wanting more and mad as hell that its over until September. I think there will be one more completely enjoyable episode before the crap hits the fan and we are all leading an angry summer. I am sure they will be great and close some open doors and wretch some new doors open to leave us guessing. I give this episode a GIGANTIC THUMBS WAY WAY UP
Ebdim9th 03-04-2007, 03:53 AM That VW did have a Dharma Logo, but its the Hurleymobile now. I remember all throughout the parts of the first and second seasons wanting to find out what the Others were really all about, flashbacks included. I got my wish this season and couldn't be happier. The Dharmites could have anything they wanted, a VW van, beer, cds and cd players, the list just grows. Man do they have the hookup. Wonder if Sawyer will learn anything from all he's been through, or need yet another Hugo smackdown to rattle the cobwebs off his admittedly respectable brain. Charlie cheated death. Surely that stands for something. And I've been looking forward to Cheech Marin showing up since I first heard about it maybe a month ago or so. Holy 8 tracks Batman, its Three Dog Night!
amidala64 03-04-2007, 09:35 AM I adored the episode! Watching that blue VW van driving around with our LOSTIES inside was priceless.
I LOVED the Family Guy allusion with Asian Reporter Tricia Takawa getting killed.
It was great to see Sawyer laughing and looking like a hippy in the passenger seat of the van.
I love Hurley-centric episodes!
and then back to the ominous jungle with Kate running into Rousseau.
Priceless.
LOCKE THE HATCH 03-04-2007, 01:16 PM fun ep! loved hurley, jin and sawyer bonding!
a breather from the mysteries and mythology yet very refreshing and actually a very good episode! a good ride!
CountChocula 03-04-2007, 03:04 PM I generally enjoyed it. I'll stop short of saying I loved it, but I liked it for the most part.
No island mysteries were advanced, so that's a minus, but I've given up on having any major questions answered. I've tossed out my inquisitiveness, and realize the show is going in a different, more character-driven, direction.
The good: The ensemble cast is back. Hurley's flashback wasn't as hideously unnecessary as Jack's last week (of course, nothing could be). The characters are talking to each other about what's going on. Danielle is back.
So on balance, I liked the episode. BTW, in the future, can they create a "neutral" sticky, for people in the middle?
Maire 03-04-2007, 04:21 PM I, too, would like to see a neutral "sticky" for those of us who liked an episode well enough, but didn't exactly love it.
As a poster mentioned in the previous page of this thread, I too love Hurley-centric episodes, and we were long overdue for one.
Hurley's character is awesome. Whether conveying humor or emotion, Jorge Garcia's oftentimes deadpan and minimalist approach in portraying his character somehow works really well. And the writers often allow him to point out the obvious when the other Losties have a difficult time doing so (which is a lot of the time).
This has already been mentioned I think, but the writers did a good job of tying in elements of Hurley's flashback to that of the scenes involving the van.
A good epi, all in all.
jheri 03-04-2007, 09:46 PM I liked it. I thought that it was a comic change. I like Sawyer and Hurley together. They're funny. It was a lite episode and I enjoyed watching it.
care_n_jim 03-04-2007, 11:25 PM The idea of a neutral thread is a good one!
I do have to say this is the first episode this season that I can actually say I LOVED IT - It had all the emotions from the first season - it was light and heavy - funny and scary - It is what brought me to Lost in the first place with the exception of Jack not being there :(
CountChocula 03-05-2007, 05:21 AM How about three threads: "Loved It", "Hated It", and "Neutral -- in the Middle".
:coolorng:
stefanie_bean 03-05-2007, 02:32 PM This was why I kept watching Lost through the first season. Thank you, thank you, thank you "Powers That Be."
Ebdim9th 03-06-2007, 12:32 AM I think the lack of a misleading promotional helped this episode out a lot as well as the fact that the episodes were both well-written to a standard well above many movies, especially considering how many straight-to-video offerings there are in the market. I hope the Hurley-centricness( a word?) of this episode keeps enough viewers interested that LOST doesn't go the way of Joan of Arcadia, Wonderfalls, Firefly, Millenium, Space: Above and Beyond, or Dead Like Me.
I missed the connection to The Family Guy that the death of the reporter in the restaraunt had. What was it?
Jacobuh 03-06-2007, 10:25 PM I like how lighthearted it felt at the end with the car and all. That was definitely a feel-good type of moment right there and I was laughing right along with em driving around like maniacs.
Sawyer's been annoying me for the past few episodes (the Magellan comment, the "don't beat yourself up over it" speech) and in this episode he started to bug me AGAIN but he ended on a good note so it's all good.
Would've liked to see more of Claire though. Good episode.
Joser Kyind 03-06-2007, 11:09 PM This is easily the best Hurley episode since Numbers. I loved every minute of it.
Ebdim9th 03-07-2007, 12:02 AM If I remember the old Marvel comic books right, the Silver Surfer was also from Shambala. Or trying to get there. Or something like that.
evanesco75 03-09-2007, 12:00 AM I have to say, despite the lack of plot advancement etc. I thought this epi rocked!!! It was amazing; Hurley was brilliant; his FBs were very touching and funny; the slap his ma gave him was hilarious, and he mirrored it when he whacked Charlie to snap him out of his funk! His interaction with his dad was so sad, and I thought Jorge Garcia did a fabulous job in those scenes; Hurley's scenes with Sawyer were GREAT; from the hug to the 'red-neck-man'! I was laughing so hard!
Sawyer and Jin were great; I'm so glad Jin's started a little English, and it was nice to see a bit of male bonding. Charlie was FANTASTIC too; I absolutely loved the bit he and Hurley got into the van and he said, "victory or death'. Amazing!
The overall idea of making your own luck was a great fit into this, and relevant too, considering Hurley's history. As long as they don't have him backtrack, it seems the boy's finally broken his curse! I realize this doesn't guarantee Charlie's life, but the mere fact that they looked death in the eye and emerged triumphant is a good sign, if you ask me!
So, all in all, I loved this one. Keep 'em comin', TPTB!
Kerstin80 03-19-2007, 08:28 PM Definitely the best episode in this season so far. Not so much concerning story-development maybe, but finally there were some long overdue character bonding moments.
Sawyer and Hurley, who ever did see that coming? That hug was just awesome, I could have laughed my head off about Sawyer's face when Hurley suddenly had him in this BEAR-hug. And the four of them driving around in that old VW? Okay, so it is completely off the rockers, but somehow it works out. They got beer, they got a car, they got a great guy afternoon. And I got to enjoy myself as a consequence.
Man, that episode really was a relief from all the previous tension, and it was so filled with whitty one-liners and gags. Just great.
And of course - Hurley flashbacks!
Can only repeat myself, that one is high on top of my favourite list.
talliann 03-24-2007, 10:24 PM Good episode. I did enjoyed it :)
evil-pineapples 03-27-2007, 11:24 PM So far. I think it's really got some superb acting from everyone, and although it's one of the lighter episodes in the series, the message it carries is really great. Hurley episodes are generally tied as my favorites, along with the Jin + Sun flashbacks. This ep. was no exception. Plus who can forget Roger? Roger owns! I wonder if he's going to turn up again sometime... Oh well. One can only hope...
4-8-15Evangeline 05-05-2007, 12:47 PM I did love this episode. Hurley's pure joy at driving the van around and around was so beautiful. It was a 'feel good' ending. As much as I want them to give us some answers it was nice to have an episode with such a light-hearted scene.
toknowhim 08-26-2007, 10:46 AM I absolutely loved this episode. Thanks to the good folks at ABC.com for putting it back up. It was some much needed relief after how intense things had gotten for the characters- and for us! It really made us smile. Great Job to cast and creative folks and everyone involved! What a well rounded show LOST is.
