I've been watching Matt Lauer reporting from holy sites in Jerusalem this morning on NBC Today and wondered if anyone else just saw the incident that happened while he was at the Western Wall???
He was reporting on the sites most important to the world's 3 major religions: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. He said he had permission and the correct permits to appear at the Western Wall to film his report but a scuffle kind of broke out with at least one man arguing that he was not supposed to be there.
Once things calmed down, the camera started to film again and unbeknownst to Matt, there was a man almost directly behind him with a gun holstered on his pants. I kept my eye on him and he kept touching the gun like he was grabbing for it. The cameraman obviously noticed him too because Matt kept appearing off center as the camera apparently kept swinging to the left to keep the man in view.
I about had a heart attack! :eek2: All I kept thinking was this was some extremist that has decided he's going to make some type of statement by assassinating one of America's most popular journalists at the Western Wall!
Matt then turned to gesture toward the man who had disputed his permit and at that time he suddenly noticed the other guy with the gun. If it hadn't been so scary, it would have been funny how hard his neck snapped back in a double take! He was visibly unnerved and finished his segment very quickly.
That incident just shook me a little bit this morning and maybe it's because I have the hugest crush on Matt Lauer  but I suppose world events have also made me a bit paranoid.
Did anyone else see this and get a sick feeling??? :frown:
P.S. His segment just came on again and this time he had moved to a rooftop where "he would be safe" and joked about how this is why he hires the largest-bodied camera crew to accompany him!
