I saw a post on these boards last week about someone in Grey's Anatomy saying "Do no Harm" and that was a shout out to Lost.* I thought "yea, right . can't anyone say anything without it being a reference to lost."

Then last night in one of the scenes the lady on the loud speaker says "Dr Shepard to the O.R.* Dr Shepard to the O.R. Stat."
Now I am loosing my mind......

I've never seen Grey's Anatomy, but "do no harm" is a part of the hippocratic oath.* It makes sense that they would say that on a show with doctors.

hmmm... it appears "do no harm " is not part of the Hippocratic oath.

www.thefuselage.com/threaded/index.php?topic=15139.0

Not that I think it is more than coincidence or maybe writers having fun with each other...

I noticed the nieghbor from DH in there too.

Maybe Boone should show up as a guy who has been in an accident and finish his sentace.... "Tell Shanon....?????"

i was the one who posted the original do no harm ref. on greys anatomy.
and, yes, the hot doctor on the show is dr. shepard, too
and "do no harm" is not part of the H. O. but it is part of another essay he wrote :lol2:
also, during every ep of LOST, the commercials always reference the show.
that week, i remember it was a BUD light commercial and another, last week it was a muppets commercial...lets see what this week will bring

^ My favorite was the office supply store ad that went on for a few weeks about a "LOST" rubber band ball.

Since "do no harm" is a part of medical terminology, it didn't strike me as unusual or a shout out. If they said "do no harm" on that new John Stamos show, then I'd be suspicious.

ok i hereby make this the thread where we post out-of-LOST references to LOST on ABC during the show or otherwise.

lets see...if i remember correctly, the bud lite commercial was two guys sitting at a bar and one says to the other, "if you were stranded on a deserted island..."
the other one was a commercial for the new muppet movie where kermit was hesitant to admit they were "LOST".

anyone remember anything else?

leaving some numbers behind. In Alias the Rambaldi device had a date attached to it 8/15/1623. I thought it interesting that we have crossovers but maybe it has some information for us too.

While not TV-related, something happened today to make me very sympathetic to SpaceWrangler--

I was reading the paper and they were reviewing a new bar/restaurant--"Lost City"--my mind immediately began doing cartwheels (and wishing I'd see Sayid, Michael and Sawyer sitting at the bar--Sayid with a Shirley Temple, of course)

Quote from Raven:

One was the Office supply company -whichever one uses the rubber band man. He had lost his rubber band ball and was posting LOST posters all over. I don't know if I've ever seen this commercial anywhere other than on LOST.

The other was a commercial for a Muppet Wizard of Oz movie. That makes me think that it was created with a nod to the show.

I don't know exactly what they said, but the guy and his wife were stranded on this little island during their vacation and they were complaining about getting rescued blah blah blah and then I know she said something about Lost... She might have actually mentioned the title, I'm not sure, but she did make fun of the "invisible monster". That's all I remember, sorry.

The "Alias/Lost" connection reminds me of the "Star Wars/Indiana Jones" connection. For example, in "Raiders," among the heiroglyphs there's a carved C-3P0 and R2-D2. And in "Temple of Doom" the restaurant at the beginning of the film is named "Club Obi-Wan."

I remember that "My Wife and Kids one"

They went to an island for the day that was apart from the resort and they were supposed to get picked up at a certain time, but they weren't . And she said "oh my God it's like that show Lost" or something like that...and "we'll be stuck here with an invisible monster" it cracked me up..

ABC sure does some serious pimpage ;)

In another thread, someone mentioned that there is a furniture company called Jordan's. ABC aired a commercial during a few episodes where the two guys that own Jordan's are superimposed (like in Forrest Gump) into a scene from Outlaws. Sayid and Charlie are talking about how he shot Ethan, and the voice over says
"You're not lost, there's a Jordan's down the street!"
they always air different commercials in different area of the country, but always include a LOST ref. in every one! ;D

Marshall uses the "golden sun" on the clock and when set to 12:22, and 1/22, it stops. When viewing the golden polymer, he sees a star chart. A snapshot of the sky taken from one specific place on earth at one specific moment in time.
If assumed that the star chart refers to the date on the back of the clock: August 16, 1523 at 12:22AM GMT, then the only spot on earth with that exact view of the stars is the southern slope of Mt. Aconcagua on the Chile/Argentina border.

In addition to being a diehard Lost fan, I do admit to watching the occasional soap opera. Okay every day but who's counting. The other day I watched something on Watchdog, Its a programme in the UK warning us and telling us about rubbish companies etc and costumer complaints.
They used Lost as a way of showing peoples complaints about a comapany called Land of Leather and how these peoples sofas had seemed to got Lost in delivery. It was weird and quite funny. Just thought I would share a weird Lost reference with you.:)

These are most likely just coincidence, not shout outs to Lost. But what the hey, thought I'd throw them out there.

Last night I watched Veronica Mars instead of the Adrift rerun. What are the odds both shows would feature a chicken costume ?!

Another pseudo-parallel story. African-American Wallace meets his biological father, who shows him a stack of letters he sent him over the years that his mother returned to sender.

baryonyx

Someone else posted this on the forums, but since this is the "official" thread as it were, I'll repeat it here. On last week's Tripping the Rift, two characters (I have no idea who, the entirety of this show I've watched is this clip) are waiting in some DMV type place, and their number when called is "04-08-15-16-23-42."

And ducky, glad I wasn't the only one who felt that the storyline with Wallace on last night's Veronica Mars was reminiscent of Lost's story with Michael and Walt. Not a shoutout, I'm certain, however, since that's a fairly common plot element.

And while we're throwing stuff out there that's quirky but not a shoutout, on Medium a few weeks back, some teenaged guy is seen in a convenience store playing a Keno-type game. While the exact number sequence never comes up, I listened... one or more of the numbers appeared in every sequence the guy picked. I just thought that was something cool (given that the game has so many numbers to choose from), but certainly no shout-out.

The weirdest part for me is that they're both neurosurgeons too. Two characters with the same name is weird enough, but same name and same job? That's definitely something up with that. ;)

I think the names are spelled differently: ours is "Shephard" and GA's is "Shepherd". Doesn't change the fact that it's weird though.

In the Alias episode "A Clean Conscience" they're at LAX and over the airport speakers you can hear "The Oceanic Airlines nonstop flight to Sydney is now ready for boarding at gate 17."

I started waching season 4 of Alias on DVD last night. In the pilot episode 2 very familiar things came up. The line "It's all in the details" and Sydney used a little black light wand to read secret documents about her mother.

In the comiccon interview that Javi gave he said they weren't above reusing ideas. I've thought that about the polar bear because he made an appearance on Alias before Lost ever aired.

"The Showbiz Show with David Spade" did a parody of the scene from Lockdown in which Jack and Locke question Henry about the map. They inserted David Spade in, and he made very funny comments, particularly about the map on the blast door.

David: You see the map?
Locke: What map?
David: The map that tells you what the **** is going on. Honestly, you guys are really good at not solving mysteries. The Brady Bunch did better. Like: Bobby gets his bike stolen, end of the episode, Bobby gets his bike back. Your's is good, I guess, but it's like the picture of Angelina Jolie's back in Vanity Fair. Interesting to look at, at first, but add in all the inconsistancies and chinese symbols, and I'm confused. You see the picture?
Jack: Did you-
Locke: No.

That's all I can remember.

Last nights Family Guy made fun off Lost. I never watch Family Guy so its pretty funny, the one time I watch it. There's a Lost Reference.

Basically The Griffins just finished watching TV and Peter goes, "Wow, that was a great episode of LOST" and then the Two Old guys from the Muppits that are like in a Balcany just APPEAR and they were like, "Yeah, the title really suits it, I sure was LOST.... HAHAHAHAH""

Hi hawke :wavey:

The Veronica Mars episode I was talking about above was Blast From the Past which aired way back in October, I don't remember the numbers or anything about Desmond in that ep.

Do you mean the fortune cookie from Donut Run that SamG mentioned above?
The message on the fortune was "TRUE LOVE STORIES NEVER END"

In our LOST-centric world I can see people relating that back to Desmond and Penny. Personally, I think its a bit generic. The Donut Run episode aired in January back when the only hint we had that Desmond had a long lost love was the photo he left behind when he fled the hatch. So I don't think the message was a shout-out to LOST, but as SamG mentioned above the numbers certainly were!

I was just online at POGO playing solitaire, and noticed that the game is using the "numbers". At first I thought it was a conincidince, but I continued to watch and sure enough, they were the numbers. I thought it was quite funny that the show would be able to spread this far, which got me thinking. Is there a tie between the online gaming site POGO and the TPTB? probably not. It's probably just some programmer that likes the show and tied it in thinking nobody would notice and if they did they would get a kick out of it. So, here is my question.

Where else have you seen LOST references?

I found another reference - on the end credits of Mission: Impossible 3, one of the companies thanked in the 'acknowledgements' in THE HANSO FOUNDATION.

Then again, JJ Abrams did direct M:I3, so I suppose it's not that surprising. However, that film did come out before season 2, when we found out about THF and Dharma.

So, there's a band that I'm a fan of, called Senses Fail. This month, they released an album called "Still Searching." I wasn't sure if it had been released yet or not, so I checked the Wikipedia page for the album. And what did I find on the page?

11. "All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues" – 4:05

Pleased as punch to see this title, I went and checked out the lyrics. Here they are:

**MOD edited: copyright on full lyrics**

I love when bands reference Lost. Moneen had a song called "Don't Ever Tell Locke What He Can't Do", and Gatsbys American Dream had "Station 5: The Pearl" and "You All Everybody". Huzzah.

...or did I mishear?

This is what I heard: Two brothers and one sister were stuck for the night in a small rundown town with no hotel. I was busy making noise in the kitchen but I think the sister said something like, “What kind of town is this. The island on Lost has more amenities than this place.”

Cracked me up!

Does anyone know if she actually said this? Or was it just a figment of my overactive imagination?

Hey everyone, not sure if this belongs in this subforum or not so I apologize if it is... but I was watching Mission Impossible III tonight (which was directed by JJ Abrams) and happened to catch a glance at the credits and what popped up as the very last credit listed was none other than "THE HANSO FOUNDATION". I don't have a screenshot to back it up but check it out for yourself and I promise its there. Just thought you guys would find it very interesting as I sure did.

Don't know how many of you are familiar with the comic strip "Over the Hedge." It's about a bunch of forest animals who have to learn to live in a new 'forest'--a suburban housing development. Anyway, this week, they meet suburbia's own Yeti, Burbfoot! And Burbfoot gives them this advice about successful food foraging:

"The best time to raid a suburban fridge is between 9 and 10 on Wednesdays. They're so confused and disoriented by "LOST," they'll never know you're there!"

The premise of the show is that Chuck, through an email from a friend who was a spy, viewed encoded images and now knows all of the gov't secrets. On tonight's episode, a doctor was brought in to see how much he remembered. The dr. showed Chuck images and Chuck had to say the first thing that popped into his head. Of course the secrets came out in bits, but one of them was "Oceanic Flight 815 was shot down by..."

Have to go back to Chuck again... I was wondering if there were any connections between the people working on Chuck and Lost and remembered an article/interview with Josh Schwartz and Damon Lindelof I read in spring 2005, I think. The reason for the article was that they were two of the youngest creators and executive producers in Hollywood at that time and they are both from the East Coast - Damon's from New Jersey and Josh Schwartz from Rhode Island. And well, I couldn't find that particular interview, but I found an interview with Josh Schwartz and Zachary Levi (http://televisionary.blogspot.com/2007/09/more-with-nerd-herd-q-with-josh.html) which mentions Lost...

Q: Zack, you’ve been very outspoken in talking about how you’re a huge videogame obsessive, but I’m wondering for both of you what sort of TV influences you have, other than The OC, of course? But what other TV shows have influenced you in your careers?

Levi: Oh, wow... Well as of lately, the television shows that I’ve been watching are Heroes and Lost.[...]

Schwartz: Well I’d say, you know, recently anything from either the Judd Apatow or J.J. Abrams camp.

Jennifer Garner's character's name is "Sydney", her father's name is "Jack", her sister's name is "Nadia" and her boyfriend is "Michael".
Her estranged Mother used to work for/still worked for (Alias is as confusing as Lost!) secretive Russian spies. Lost utilizes estranged parental themes quite often and Mikhail also had ties to Russian intelligence.

6. Atlanta at Tennessee (-8); 1:00: Vince-anity and Joey-Joe-Joe-Shabbadu-Heisman-Ballgame Harrington in the same game? This is like watching the cast of "Heroes" square off with that of "Lost" ... ... ... Hmmm ... That didn't make sense nor was the parallel even close to being correct (the TV dorkiness in me just needed out for a second -- "Lost" would annihilate "Heroes" by the way), but this might be the road upset that propels Harrington and the Falcons back into a weak NFC South race. Sadly, "might be" isn't enough to trump Young. Vince-anity, 28-27.

Thank goodness for DVR..
I thought it was pretty cool that Chuck slipped that in. it could have been a tribute to the show, it could have been a sneaky little plan from the powers that be. At this moment I have not read a thread or anything from TPTB acknowledging the mention. Until then I would like to contribute some parallels between the images shown and LOST. Im bored and I am putting my DVR to use.

1. Island with smoke or possible explosion
2. Close up of pupil dilating (3 or 4 times)
3. Airplane flying over
4. Man with glasses Looking through a peephole (Through the looking glass)
5. Man carrying a body on the beach
6. Crashed airplane on a beach. It looks like 2 halves and you can see in the fuselage
7. Sailboat

Along with the reference to Oceanic Flight 815 being shot down by surface to...... and the brain washing type images with Carl, this certainly does stimulate the LOST senses.

Even if it is just for kicks, I am glad they did it. It helps fill the gap between now and when the season starts. Kudos for keeping people interested and the show a buzz, even in their down time.

"Do No Harm" is a doctor's oath, so you might run across that in various shows.
But...I think having Dr. Derek Shepherd as a neurosurgeon is definitely a nod to Dr. Jack Shephard, our island neurosurgeon. Too much of a co-inky-dink.

Actually, it's more likely that it's just a coincidence: both shows landed pilot orders at ABC around the same time - it even looks like Matthew Fox and Patrick Dempsey both got their respective role on or around 03/10/04 (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=6454) (look for "Surgeons") - and in the ABC Upfront press release (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=6591) from May 2004, Patrick Dempsey is already listed as playing Derek Shepherd.

Just finished a Matthew Fox article/interview by EW.

It was nice of Mr. Fox to recognize us "die hard fans" out here who have stayed true to the show since day one, regardless of story arcs and characters.

Speaking of which, - and I've posted this elsewhere - I am one of the few fans who happened to like the Nikki and Paulo storyline. I thought it was cool to see the same events happening from a different perspective and wish TPTB would do more of it.

Waiting for the 28th is hard.....

"Lost" fans demand storyline answers from ABC.More than one option

"Lost" exec producer Damon Lindelof is already warning the rabid fans of his thriller drama: Prepare to bang your head in frustration after the show's episodes prematurely run out.

The original plan this season was to air 16 original episodes of "Lost" consecutively from midwinter through the end of the season in May. The Writers Guild strike threw a wrench in that scenario, however, and now (unless somehow a resolution is found soon) only eight segs will be ready.

ABC has already started promoting the return of the critically acclaimed megahit, and those early promos promise to deliver plenty of suspense. What they aren't expected to do is answer many of the show's burning questions -- long a pet peeve of viewers.

Those answers, the producers have said, were set to start popping up in the second half of the season. Now ... viewers are going to have to wait a little longer. An angry mob outside ABC's front door the day after the final available episode airs? It's possible.

I've been checking Speed Racer previews (being a Wachowski Brothers fan), and I saw this today, it really surprised and reaffirmed that they DO watch Lost. A car explodes, and this is how it looks

Besides the fact that Foxy will play the role of Racer X (well, everybody knows that by now), Michael Giacchino scored the soundtrack for the film. Hope it was useful.

I caught my favourite Big Bang nerd (the endearingly awkward Cooper ;) ) answering "the Casimir effect" to a quiz question - he was right  but I got there first! God I am so uncool.

Brilliantly; the answer to a subsequent question was not "Eight ....point four?" Fabulous!

I just started my second play through on Metal Gear Solid 4, and at the start of the game there's some TV channels you can flip through, and the available channels are

15, 16, 23, 42, 48 (or 4, 8)

Just thought it was cool to see the reference.

I did a search on the above thread with this name for IMDB and it didn't turn up anything. Over at the Internet Movie Database there's a whole list of movie, tv show and game references for Lost. It seems very comprehensive.

I can't post in that thread as it's over so many days old. Please move this if required.

Thanks.

Unless, the thread is locked you should be able to post in it. Just check the box at the bottom saying, "Yes" I want to post here.

Also, to anyone who is watching "Fringe", every episode there seem to be shout outs to LOST.

Tonight's Episode titled "Baby Not On Board".

Does having Jack and Kate impersonated (poorly) on a cartoon count as a Lost sighting?? Although, I must admit I was on my floor laughing so hard I almost peed my pants!!

One very interesting side note.... in the parody, Jack told Kate
"Don't you get it? We are the island."

That was hysterical last night! Although how much can you expect them to impersonate Jack and Kate? At first I thought it really was Matthew Fox talking, until his voice got too low. It was probably the funniest moment of the episode.

Family Guy is hilarious. I love the jokes that are more sublime. But this spoof of Jack and Kate.. Maybe it is because everything I obsess about Lost is so serious. Kinda a little mental break to be able to laugh about it.

Do we have a general therad for parodies?

David Willis just made a Lost joke in his online strip Shortpacked!, which is usually about the staff of a toy store, but occasionally does one-off pop cultural jokes.
http://www.shortpacked.com/d/20090126.html

I wasn't aware that David was interested in Lost, but since one of the comments points out that he initially misspelled "Naveen", I guess this strip was a suggestion by one of his Wiigii friends.

Kate looks like she did in the pilot (note the cute baby polar bear!), Jack... I dunno when he was in that outfit; Sayid seems to be in his season 4/5 assassin outfit (but on the island), then there's shirtless Sawyer with Neil Frogurt's red shirt in the background, and Locke is lying in the coffin. Huh.

Yeah, I didn't get who the Jeff was he was talking about. Am I forgetting one of the executive producers?

He... isn't referring to Jeffrey Lieber, is he? 'Cuz if there's anyone who contributed even LESS to Lost than Abrams, it's Lieber... whose draft for the Pilot was still lacking any mystery elements before Abrams came on board. And he hasn't contributed anything to the show since then.

He was referring to someone he still felt was involved in the show. That's what kills the joke for any big, deep Lost fan. We should know who he is referring to in this joke.

That, and the fact that the joke was not funny, AND poorly researched.

I've seen quite a few good parodies: "Writers of Lost" doesn't TRY to be anything accurate, which is why I don't mind the made-up writers, and the jokes are genuinely funny.

The Shortpacked! strip has so many well-researched details, and the punchline is funny too.

The German Switch Reloaded parody was at least somewhat funny, and again, attention to detail (location, clothes, props) is what made it really good.

This one... a flawed premise of urban myth qualities ("J.J. Abrams was the mastermind behind the show before he got distracted by Star Trek"), poorly researched details ("Jeff"?) and a really forced punchline ("let's confuse the hell out of people... hey, let's do time-rtravel... hey, let's actually explain Dharma").

I found a piece in a newspapers free tv guide - it was The Guardian I think - the premise of which was to take 'supporting' characters from existing shows and give them their own spin-off.

LOST was listed (keeping company with Glee, Mad Men and Poirot to name a few) and Hurley, selected for elevation in a programme that would consist mainly of 'giving general Dudely advice and some cooking'

I'd watch it. But then I'd watch Jorge watch paint dry. His are the eps I watch over and over.

(other gongs to Peggy, Sue and Hastings! ...I used to use that name)
