*adopts best old geezer voice* Look at all these young whippersnappers. It wasn't like this back in my day with the internet and message boards, your fancy iPods and streaming media. I was born in the 1960's when music was music, you played it on a phonograph, you listened to your pocket transistor and watched Batman on your 13" black and white TV. It was good enough for us! We loved it!
*ahem* Welcome to The Council of Elders, the group for Lost fans age 35 and over. You know who you are, so come and join. You remember eight track tapes, Donny and Marie, leg warmers, pong, Schoolhouse Rock. Maybe you watched the Monkees when it first aired, maybe you saw it when it reran on weekday afternoons when you came home from school. Either way, there's a place for us here!
So if you sometimes fret because you feel older than the combined age of every PB&J shipper on Lost Forum, you pull your hair out (or what's left of it) when someone says 'Cheech who?', then this is where you need to be.
Please state your age and then wear it proudly! :)

jellyfrog 11-22-2006, 10:05 PM Aw, Schoolhouse Rock! That's where I learned most of the American history that I know, unfortunately.
Sign me up, pace! I'm a creaky old 36. ;)
pacejunkie 11-22-2006, 10:14 PM Welcome jelly! And if anyone asks, despite my age, I do still squee. I'm twelve on the inside as you know.
Dany_E 11-22-2006, 10:16 PM So, far, I would appear to be the oldest elder (40). Feel free to ask my advice, kids.
Oh, and I'd like to join please.
Perdue 11-22-2006, 10:20 PM Old enough to join. Smart enough not to reveal my age. ;)

Pace, I would have taken you for a bit younger...but cool!
I already fessed up on a census we took awhile back on the couch, so I'm 44, my first crush was Davey Jones in the Monkees, and I thought Batman (the one with Adam West) was highly dramatic and suspenseful. "Same bat time, same bat channel."
And now famously corrupt figures of my generation are cuddly characters on kids' TV: George Carlin and Ringo Starr on Shining Time Station, Tim Curry on Muppet Treasure Island (I kept waiting for him to break into a chorus "In Just Seven Days..."), Cheech is a gardener romancing Tyne Daly, the list goes on....
That being said, I continue to be blown away by the younger members of the Fuse who show wisdom and insight far beyond what I can come up with.
jellyfrog 11-22-2006, 10:38 PM my first crush was Davey Jones in the Monkees
Ooh, me too, me too!
Unless it was James T. Kirk...

Working mom!
My first crush was Davy Jones, too... I remember telling my mom, "he's short, like me!" My brother and I LOVED Batman but had no clue that it was satirical or supossed to be humorous... it was the Bard at his best as far as we were concerned. In fact, I was pretty sure I'd die if I didn't get the special Bat foam soap (like shaving cream in a can) ... didn't dig Batgirl, tho... When my friend's younger brother begged to play B & R with us, we'd only let him be batgirl... I was kinda low in the tribal order, too, the highest I ever got was Robin.. never Batman, or the Joker, the Penguin, etc..... talk about your cruel and unusual punishments!
I also remember being excited that I could drink Tang & eat that weird peanut butter tube stuff just like the astronauts... but found the moon shot stuff very boring... hey I was little.
Please sign me up, so far I get to be the old lady of the thread, I'm 46 and counting...
elfdream 11-22-2006, 10:41 PM Hmm..so far I can blow you all away. I am 48.
I remember the Kennedy assasination. Just barely...but I can remember it. :D I remember Civil Rights and Dr. King and the moon landing. Bell Bottoms...and long straight hair.
I also am amazed at the young people on this forum. When I was 19 I was a bit...dazed and confused. :D I would never have been able to argue my position on anything. You would have found me in a corner rocking back and forth muttering to myself.
I am middle aged but I refuse to have a mid-life crsis. As a cancer survivor I'm just happy to HAVE a mid life. :D
Davey Jones? No way..it was Mickey Dolenz all the way for me. He was my first 'voice' crush. I could listen to him sing "I'm a Believer' over and over and over......
kaceykat 11-22-2006, 10:44 PM Okay so far I'm almost the oldest (46) and boy did I love David Cassidy & Bobby Sherman, the original Dark Shadows (raced home from school to watch on b/w tv on the kitchen table) and my very first ship was Jeannie & Major Tony Nelson. I was a romantic even at age 6. Can I join?
Perdue 11-22-2006, 10:45 PM I was rather fond of Mr. Spock. It was the ears, I think.
elfdream 11-22-2006, 10:45 PM How could I forget David Cassidy? (slaps self)
jellyfrog 11-22-2006, 10:53 PM How could I forget David Cassidy? (slaps self)
In my crowd it was Shawn Cassidy, but I didn't like him and felt very superior about it.
I was rather fond of Mr. Spock. It was the ears, I think.
I liked Kirk when I was a kid, but by the time I was in college I preferred Spock. Is that a sign of maturity? ;)
Anybody for Apollo or Starbuck? I went back and forth.
How about the Six Million Dollar Man?
Perdue 11-22-2006, 11:01 PM I liked Kirk when I was a kid, but by the time I was in college I preferred Spock. Is that a sign of maturity?
Improved taste, for sure, imo. LOL. I think I was born a critic and could never abide Shatner's acting style.

Oh I much preferred Parker Stevenson. I was an Apollo girl (Hey Richard Hatch was the original Phil on AMC) and I adored Lee Majors when he was Heath on The Big Valley.
And would you believe I always like Peter over Davey? Can't even remember why.
elfdream 11-22-2006, 11:05 PM And would you believe I always like Peter over Davey? Can't even remember why.
Because Peter was actually a musican? :D He always reminded me of Peter Buck, the guitar player from R.E.M. for some reason. They don't look a thing alike. Must be the name.
Dany_E 11-22-2006, 11:10 PM How about the Six Million Dollar Man?
Ohhh - my first "ship", I guess, was Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers. I bawled my little 10 or 11 year old heart out when Jaime died when she rejected her bionics, remember? And, then, it turned out she didn't really die at all, that other doctor fixed her but she now had amnesia and didn't remember Steve at all? Oh how I cried.
Funny, I remember one episode of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and the million dollar question was which organization did Oscar Goldman work for?
I'm yelling "OSI, OSI - Office of Scientific Intelligence" but the contestant took the money and ran without answering the question. I coulda been a millionaire....
ETA - I was a Davey Jones fan too but now I think "WHAT was I thinking?"

Hey there's a good ship to remember. And guess what? Even though they didn't get together during the original run of the shows, they finally got married in the tv movies... So there's proof that you never give up on your ship.

Exactly - and that little TV movie just happened to launch the career of one Sandra Bullock (the Bionic Teen).
lost and found 11-22-2006, 11:45 PM Alrighty, here I am. 34 in January.
Born in the infancy of the Age of Aquarius, my first crush being Marsha Brady, I named my first dog Scooby-Doo and second dog Scrappy-Doo.
They were the days where I would rush home from school and watch The Mickey Mouse Club (my favourite day being 'Surprise Day'), and I would have to ACTUALLY get out of the chair to change the channel :eek2:!
They were the days when we still used things called pens and paper to write things called 'letters', and if you were out and needed to phone someone, you had to use a 'public telephone'.
flyer61055 11-22-2006, 11:55 PM I'm 43 and I don't think I had my first crush until I was about 10 and it was on one of the cops in the show "The Rookies". I think his name was Michael Ontkean, which was followed later by crushing on Starsky of the original Starsky & Hutch, followed later in my teenage years by obessing over Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers. I've attended more Doobie concerts than I care to remember. My favorite obsession had to be with Miami Vice though. OMG, Don Johnson, the first man to make scruffy sexy.
Save The Humans 11-22-2006, 11:59 PM Save The Humans, 51 years aged.
I dare anyone to have the GUTS to top THAT age!! :24:
Anybody for Apollo or Starbuck? I went back and forth.
Sorry--but the youngsters have taken this away from us, now. Starbuck is a GIRL! :crybaby:
Dark Shadows
Ah. . .Barnabas. . .Jonathan Frid was a Shakespearean actor, so that voice STILL resonates in my mind. . . .
Anyone else ever note that LOST's ancestor was "The Prisoner"?? Of course, Number 6 isn't one of The Numbers today, but still. . . .
All this brings back memories. Thanks for starting this thread!
Remember, though--if we don't bring LOST into the conversation, they'll move us to Chit Chat (the equivalent of Mortal Doom at this site)!! :shock1:
Perdue 11-23-2006, 12:03 AM Okay, have you noticed how many of the actors on LOST are themselves over 35? Matt Fox, Josh Holloway, Terry O'Quinn, EM, the woman who plays Rose whose name I'm too lazy to Google, Bernard whose real name I'm too lazy to Google too, Benry (ditto), Zeke (ditto), Pickett (ditto). And Naveen must be right around that age as well.

I don't typically watch anything with a predominantly young cast. My favorite shows are LOST, HOUSE, CSI (original), Grey's Anatomy and Nip/Tuck. Good mixture of young and older in all those.
Tonight's LOST MOMENT was:
Hurley asking Locke if he believed the Hatch blowing up gave everyone super powers like the Fantastic Four and he told him that Desmond can see the future.
pacejunkie 11-23-2006, 12:24 AM :eek2: Wow everyone! I go off to watch a movie I come back and there's 3 pages of posts and all of a sudden we have 10 elders! Congratulations STH! You not only get the honour of being Senior Elder as of now but you are also Elder #10. Good for you. You'll all find your numbers in the first post. Welcome each and every one of you.
Special note to lost and found: I've made you our first Aspiring Elder. Aspiring Elders are welcome and will be made full Elders when they reach the golden age of 35. Congrats!
First crushes? Well, as you might guess, I never went with the popular choice. Davey Jones wasn't for me. I was a Michael Nesmith fan all the way. My first crush. After that it was Sean Cassidy, Andy Gibb, Ace Frehley (Kiss) and Robin Zander (Cheap Trick and my first concert). I also liked Gonzo from Trapper John and Johnny from Emergency. ;)
Lost discussion: I think it's cool that TPTB are of our generation. I think that accounts for a lot of the casting and references to things we can remember and appreciate. Everything from the 70's style hatch to the Dave reference. What other references from our generation can we think of from the show?
workingmom 11-23-2006, 12:26 AM In fact, I was pretty sure I'd die if I didn't get the special Bat foam soap (like shaving cream in a can) ... . OMG, I forgot about the Batfoam! My mom would never buy it for me.
In my crowd it was Shawn Cassidy, but I didn't like him and felt very superior about it.
Did you know that same blond boytoy was the producer/creator of Invasion, that aired last year after Lost? (There, I worked Lost into the thread. Hurray for us.) I liked that show and miss it.
Ah. . .Barnabas. . .Jonathan Frid was a Shakespearean actor, so that voice STILL resonates in my mind. . . .
My good friend was a Dark Shadows addict -- I didn't watch it every day. I'm almost afraid to rent the DVD's now because I don't want to find out it's as campy as Batman. It was SCARY back then.
Anyone else ever note that LOST's ancestor was "The Prisoner"?? Of course, Number 6 isn't one of The Numbers today, but still. . . .
I don't quite get the similarity to Lost -- was it with the Others storyline?
jellyfrog 11-23-2006, 12:26 AM Save The Humans, 51 years aged.
I dare anyone to have the GUTS to top THAT age!! :24:
I like a thread where people are competing to see who's the oldest.
C'mon, Perdue, fess up! ;)
Save The Humans 11-23-2006, 12:32 AM OK, the ones I can remember off the top of my head:
Sam Anderson (Bernard)
Mike Emerson (Ben)
Michael Bowen (Pickett)
M. Scott Caldwell (Rose)
Eventually, I might get around to finding a cast list for the actor who plays Tom. But not right now!
Yes, Naveen is in his late 30s.
Let us not forget Ian Cusick (Desmond) or Mira Furlan (Danielle), now!! :nono:
Good topic choice, Perdue!
Hurley told Locke about Desmond's precog abilities? Oh, great. Just GREAT! :wallbash:
workingmom 11-23-2006, 12:34 AM We need some men in our ranks. jfsquires, are you around? How bout fourthpoliceman? WhiterRabbit once alluded that he wasn't a kid but I don't know if he qualifies for membership. C'mon out, fellas!
Perdue 11-23-2006, 12:42 AM Hey, I told you I was old enough to belong, but smart enough not to publically reveal my age. I admit to 39. And I'm going to continue to admit to 39 until I can't get away with it any longer. Which may be sooner than I want. LOL.
And to stay on topic...the young died first on LOST. Perhaps they are dying in order of age? Which means Locke should be the last man standing. Unless Benry is the same age.

I'm on the lookout for Old Wiz. Haven't seen him around spoilers lately but we need him here.

Good for you Perdue. 39 it shall be.
I think the wide range of ages among the cast is what helps to grab the older audiences. I wouldn't watch Lost if the cast were entirely made of twenty-somethings. I wouldn't be able to relate. Our hero Jack is pushing 40.
By the way, I'd be happy to make the cast and VIPs Honorary Elders of anyone could provide reliable information as to their ages. Unfortunately Dom doesn't qualify and that REALLY makes me feel old!

Wow! I never thought that such a title would make me feel so...young!!! Thankyou pj !
I remember when I was younger how proud I was that I looked old enough to get into clubs whilst being 'underage', now I would give anything to be asked for i.d! How things change.
Back to Lost:
I enjoy the musical references to the 60's and 70's, particularly the S02/S03 opening tunes!
pacejunkie 11-23-2006, 01:15 AM Speaking of hatch music, did any other Elders notice that when Desmond trashed the record collection in LTDA one of the records he knocked down was James Taylor's Flag (http://www.amazon.com/Flag-James-Taylor/dp/B00004SVK6/sr=1-1/qid=1164258937/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-1987459-9820048?ie=UTF8&s=music)? It's the cover with the pink and yellow triangles. Great album by the way (yes I have it). Another Lost link-the album has references to heroin use.

Interesting find. It reminds me of a 'nautical flag', so of course I just did a quick google and found that it is almost identical to the international code flag for 'man overboard'. Desmond was sailing when he crashed on Craphole Island. Hmmmm....
Here's the link btw: http://www.soundkeepers.com/kids/alphabet/

Hey, that's cool! It's clearly supposed to be a nautical flag but it's funny that it's pink/yellow instead of red/yellow. Wonder why. Man overboard. Heh. Very appropriate.
workingmom 11-23-2006, 01:38 AM Cool. Another album from the hatch is the Pousette-Dart Band - I think Charlie was looking at it when they were also wondering about Geronimo Jackson. I couldn't remember what they did, but I finally looked it up and they had a hit Amnesia. That's for Claire.

Well, I definitely meet the age requirements (I'm 42), but I'm unsure just what the purpose of this group is. Is it to offer an elder view on general Lost topics? To discuss 70's and 80's references in the show? A social gathering place for older viewers? Or something else?
Perdue 11-23-2006, 02:01 AM Well, I definitely meet the age requirements (I'm 42), but I'm unsure just what the purpose of this group is. Is it to offer an elder view on general Lost topics? Mostly fun. Does there need to be a meta purpose?
And to keep on the topic of over 35 and LOST. Other than Alex, have we seen many under 35s with the Others? The guy who stabbed Sawyer looked in his 20s.
Save The Humans 11-23-2006, 02:17 AM The older ages of the Others attest to the theory that they are infertile, and desperately seek children for their society. Ergo, Alex. Ergo, Aaron. Ergo, Emma and Zack. Ergo, throwing Kate & James together. Ergo, Sun (when they find out she's preggers).
As for "proving" the ages of the actors--most of the ones mentioned already are DEFINITELY over 35. So isn't that the only requirement? :innocent:
CrazyLatin007 11-23-2006, 02:17 AM I guess I'd have to be aspiring, though I'll be 35 on February 6 (Lost returning the following day is the nicest present JJ could ever give me  !)
I used to run in slow motion, pretending I was Jamie, and I got dizzy more times than I care to remember when I was playing Wonder Woman.
My first crush was John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever and then in Grease. I knew every single step from any choreography in those movies. My friends and I used to put together entire shows to both soundtracks...
And what about Charlie's Angels? I guess that was the first show I saw that a running mystery we never got an answer for (what did Charlie look like? I know who played him now, I'm guessing everyone else here does too). Boy, have things changed!!
I love that Lost has actors that are more mature, I think their experience contributes to the outstanding performances we've seen. I'm hoping that with all the kid abductions, we will soon see all sorts of thematic lunchboxes from our time...
ETA: Who else remembers when a bar chart had to be done using grid paper?
lost and found 11-23-2006, 04:35 AM I think that another reason that our age group enjoys Lost so much is that we can relate to one or more of the characters in some way through our various life experiences, whether it is failed relationships, parent issues, parenting, alcohol/drug issues, falling in love, heck, even having hidden secrets.
jfsquires 11-23-2006, 08:42 AM We need some men in our ranks. jfsquires, are you around?
Yes, I'm still around, but at 69, who knows for how much longer?
Does anyone know anything about the demographics of the viewing audience? I get the feeling that they are mostly 20 somethings who want "hot couples" and "jungle sex." Does that mean that all hope is lost for the return of the Season One characters and storyline?
And does anyone know where I can download the recent Matthew Fox interview folks are talking about on the Fox thread. From the discussion, either they caught him on a bad day or he's as disappointed in Season Three as I am.
pacejunkie 11-23-2006, 10:11 AM Well, I definitely meet the age requirements (I'm 42), but I'm unsure just what the purpose of this group is. Is it to offer an elder view on general Lost topics? All of the above! You've summed us up perfectly. Can I add you to the list then? :)

No problem. Just remind me after your birthday and I'll move you up. We'll have a cake and everything.
And what about Charlie's Angels? I guess that was the first show I saw that a running mystery we never got an answer for (what did Charlie look like? I know who played him now, I'm guessing everyone else here does too). Boy, have things changed!!
Charlie's Angels was the first tv show I was allowed to stay up past my bedtime for on a weekly basis. I guess you could say it was a precursor to Lost for me; my first appointment tv!
ETA: Who else remembers when a bar chart had to be done using grid paper?
Me! I still have my TI35 calculator. Anyone remember Texas Instruments?
And get this: I still have the first generation Sony Walkman because it STILL WORKS! I use it as a portable tape player around the house and I used to use it to go on walks but when iPods came out, I just became embarassed to be seen with it so now I keep it home. I love it though, even though it weighs five pounds.
I think that another reason that our age group enjoys Lost so much is that we can relate to one or more of the characters in some way through our various life experiences, whether it is failed relationships, parent issues, parenting, alcohol/drug issues, falling in love, heck, even having hidden secrets.
That is definitely true. We've been there and back again, as they say. ;)
Wow! A new senior Elder. Sorry STH, that didn't last long. Welcome, oh wise one. :ntworthy: To answer your question, the coveted demographic for lost (and any show) is 18-49. Lost regularly kicks butt in that age range (Criminal Minds may lead in the number of viewers, but they skew 49+ which is less desireable to advertisers). Then again, I know quite a few Lost fans that are under 18 as well. I'd be curious to know how the 18-49 breaks down to see if most viewers fall in the 20's, 30's or 40's.

Hi jfsquires
glad you decided to join us, I always enjoy reading your posts.
It is fascinating that this is the first TV show I can remember that really seems to switch your brain into the active thinking mode rather than passivity. In fact the show generally keeps me awake quite a while after I've watched it which can be a problem because my toddler generally thinks 5 a.m. is the ideal time to rise and shine:drowsy:
On the threads I frequent, I've seen folks in the early teens all the way through our little group, I love how this show crosses generational barriers and opens the door to substantive discussion on fascinating and sometimes important topics.
Even though I confess I've been disappointed with this particular season, LOST has reminded me that even TV can be an art form that informs and questions rather than the usual diet of intellectual junk food that numbs the mind and settles for the lowest common denominator. Part of the reason I've been bummed about season 3 is that 1 and 2 set the bar so high, but that's jmo, of course. I know lots have liked it just fine, to each his own
Off to do something "creative" with some food... Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it... I'm thankful to have ya'll to chat with.

So true. I find myself having to pull back from debates when I realize that I might well be arguing with a kid who while in of himself might be very intelligent but wouldn't have the life experiences that I have had...and it would make the whole thing slightly skewed.
Speaking of kids? Who here has them? I have a 23 year old proudly serving in the US Air Force, a 21 year old college student daughter and a 15 year old son who gets in all kinds of creative trouble. Yes..I got married rather young. :wink1: Because of them I'm able to keep in touch with all the fads, trends and music of today. Oddly enough..some of them are retreads of things that were going on when I Was young. The clothes..watching the TV shows on TV Land, the music.
And it goes both ways. My daughter raids my music collection and lost my Best of Led Zeplin and the Who. I managed to find The Monkees Greatest hits and the Moody Blues. :D And Culture Club. Yes..Culture Club! Say what you will about Boy George..I thought he was a good songwriter.
CrazyLatin007 11-23-2006, 12:04 PM My only child is the one in my avatar. He doesn't cause much trouble and brings tons of joy to my life!
Elf, I hope your son is safe, his is a dangerous job. As to the 15 yo, well, you know it will pass. I'm sure I was a lot worse than he is. I was a little  up until I was 24!!
lost and found 11-23-2006, 12:26 PM It's funny, because, as a child, I never imagined that one day I would be able to type a few words, and they would not only be broadcast all over the world, but to people on other continents, and that I would not only communicate with 'strangers', yet communicate with these 'strangers' to the point that I feel that they are 'friends'.
elfdream, my best wishes to you, your family, and your 23 year old (whom is not only helping save his/her country, but is helping save the world) on this, your 'Thanksgiving', and boy, do we ALL have alot to give thanks for!
CrazyLatin007 11-23-2006, 12:31 PM And does anyone know where I can download the recent Matthew Fox interview folks are talking about on the Fox thread. From the discussion, either they caught him on a bad day or he's as disappointed in Season Three as I am.
I can't find the thread you're referring to, can you post a link?

Culture Club!! That was my One True Fandom in high school. I got to meet Boy George when I was 16. Of my vast record collection, the only ones I've saved were my Beatles records and my Culture Club records. (I dressed up as the Boy for Halloween once). :) I wish there had been an internet then.

Totally agree. It still blows my mind the number of countries where I can now say I know people and feel like they are friends. The combination of the internet and shows like Lost with an international flavour and audience really helps bring people together. I'm convinced the path to world peace is through a message board!

Your comment proves how the WWW has made us 'neighbours'!
Talk about 'six degrees of separation'! You guys love Boy George, who is a very close friend of none other than Kylie Minogue (who was my avatar until recently)! I have absolutely adored Kylie since I was 14, and have had the priviledge of meeting her 3 times, and will be seeing her live (front row) in concert here in Melbourne on 12/11/06, front row, mind!!!! I wish that she would have more success in the U.S. one day soon.
She is also an actress, and I would give my let arm to see her on Lost (particularly as an ex-love of Charlies').
It's funny, that no matter how old you get, you can still turn into a teenager when it comes to one of your childhood 'idols'!
LostInJack 11-23-2006, 01:15 PM I would like to join the Elders Council, I was 39, 3 days ago. Isn't it funny how we don't feel older just look it.

I remember Kylie's first hit here in Canada anyway was "Locomotion" - then she seemed to disappear from the North American stage for a while. Nice to see she's back on top in the dance world and nice also that her health problems seem to be resolved.
I am a HUGE Neil Finn fan - love everything by Crowded House, Finn Brothers and Split Enz.

S-A-T-U-R D-A-Y...Night!
I have this strange memory of my parents coming home from seeing Star Wars at the movies and my dad laughing over the name Obi Kenobi and how silly it sounded. I had Star Wars trading cards that would probably be worth a bit of money today.

I wasn't allowed to go see Star Wars because it was PG and I was 12.
My sister thought The Bay City Rollers were sooooo NEAT!
lost and found 11-23-2006, 01:48 PM Ahhh, Star Wars. I remember going to the 'Drive-In' with my parents, and older brothers (before my sisters were born), to watch Star Wars. I fell asleep during the movie, and to this day, I have never watched the movie from start to finish. The same applies to 'The Sound of Music'!!
Speaking of old films, does anyone remember 'Herbie: The Love Bug', and my childhood favourite, 'Petes' Dragon'?
'Petes' Dragon' brought me to absolute tears! I remember turning to my Mum and asking her if I could have a pet dragon. I had to settle for a dog.
Baileysdad 11-23-2006, 02:03 PM I remember the Pet Rock and Mood Rings...
Dany_E 11-23-2006, 02:07 PM Remember those ugly rainbow toe socks in the 70's? And leg warmers and head bands in the 80's - I always thought it was a little creepy when people put headbands on little girl babies - they have no hair to hold back.

Perdue 11-23-2006, 02:56 PM We are not old...just older...:whlchair:
And I, for one, figure that I can stop at any age that works for me. LOL. Although I have a son who tells me that if I don't move up my age soon, I will have had him when I was 10. LOL
And to keep us on topic and out of the dreaded chit-chat section:
Locke, Rose and Bernard are the eldest of the Losties, unless there are red shirts we haven't seen yet. Who is the oldest, do you think?
And among the Others, Zeke or Ben?
And of all the references that might have passed over the youngest folks' heads, I loved when Sawyer talked about singing Kumbaya and doing trust falls. Maybe those things are still done, but I haven't heard about any recently and it made me laugh.
And I actually have liked Season 3 a lot. I've really enjoyed the addition of EM to the cast and find her utterly fascinating. And I liked the romance and the adventure and the mysteries that have been hinted at--like the "two weeks." I just want to see more of the other Losties now and less of K/J/S and the Others.

Baileysdad 11-23-2006, 03:04 PM I had all the ORIGINAL Star Wars action figures...the Death Star...all the vehicles...have no idea where they are now...pity.

Did they come out of a package of Wonder Bread? Whenever my mom bought Wonder Bread we would feel the end to make sure the trading card was there and speculate about which one it was. :) I was always hoping for Princess Leia cards.
When Star Wars came out my parents were planning to take my brother to see it, but they thought I'd be scared so they sent me off to a family reunion in Tahoe with my aunt and uncle. My cousin got carsick and threw up all over the back seat. My uncle pulled the car over and I tried desperately to get out, but it must have had one of those child safety locks...
So that's what I was doing while my brother was watching Star Wars. My parents still haven't quite lived that one down...
And I actually have liked Season 3 a lot. I've really enjoyed the addition of EM to the cast and find her utterly fascinating.
She's fantastic... The best thing about season 3, IMO, and she's right around my age, I think. And Nathan Fillion... He's actually about a year younger than me. I find that a bit disturbing for some reason....:undecide:

Pacejunkie - did you notice on the Season 1 DVD commentary ("The Moth", I think) that Dom mentions both Split Enz and Crowded House? He even knew which group originated in New Zealand and which was formed in Sydney. A true fan, I'm sure.

They did! I remember that now, slipping your arm down into the bottom of the bread bag. That's why I had such a random sampling of loose cards. Some were stickers too. I had one of R2D2 that was a sticker.
Does anyone remember the Monkees and Archies records that came on the back of cereal boxes? They were real records you cut out of the cardboard. I loved the Archies and Archie comics. Didn't Sawyer call Sun "Betty" on the show? Another great Elders reference. Did he mean Betty of the Archies or Betty Rubble?
Sawyer is so Reggie to Jack's Archie. Kate is Veronica of course. And Locke is Mr. Weatherbee! :D
And Nathan Fillion... He's actually about a year younger than me. I find that a bit disturbing for some reason....:undecide:
He's younger than me? That's weird. I swear he seems older. Or maybe I feel younger. Or something.

I haven't played the commentary in a long time so I'd forgotten about that. But I'm not suprised since Dom is such a music fan and having spent so much time in New Zealand too. I'm assuming he's into a lot of retro music judging by his Beatles/Lennon obsession.

.... and washing them out by hand - ew! :31:
Perdue 11-23-2006, 06:29 PM and washing them out by hand - ew!
The biggest problem is that no one uses cloth diapers anymore and even if there were a baby on board, the supply of disposable diapers has long since run out. So I guess she's cutting up tee-shirts or using banana leaves or moss or something.
Now these are the really important issues of LOST. Not that damnable triangle. We, as elders, know what really matters: diapers, toilet paper, toothbrushes, shampoo, deoderant. :wink1:
(See, managed to get LOST and elders worked into the post!!! This could be a challenge to manage to always stay on topic of the council of elders AND LOST, but I'm sure we are up to the challenge!)
elfdream 11-23-2006, 06:43 PM Diapers? Doesn't Aaron wear nappies? :D
WKRP. I remember the episode where they they told the guy who was always hitting on Loni Anderson's character that she was really a man. :D
The Who concert..I remember that. Sad. I was at the semi-famous Tibetan Freedom concert when lightning struck that girl. It was the section in front of me...it sounded like gunfire and my first thought was "It's the Chinese!":eek2: Seriously...I was paranoid about terrorists even way back then. The girl recovered btw.

I don't know .... the Swan probably pre-dates legwarmers by a few of years, so they probably wouldn't have them anyway.
But speaking of retro-fashion .... has anybody checked out Desmond's boilersuit? - I mean, are we talking flares or drainpipes here?
This is important - WE NEED TO KNOW!

Agreed. Toiletry supplies are the key.

Well, I want to know how all of guys can keep a perfect 6 to 7 day stubble, why Sawyer's hair grows and Jack's doesn't and why all of the ladies have great hair (a bit tangled, but still) and are silky smooth.
Talk about important island mysteries.

Right.
These are major holes in the plot that we're talking about here.

And the deoderant thing ... back in season 1 they played golf for the last of the deoderant sticks! I mean, are they all so used to each other's stink now that they don't care anymore??? - ew! :yucky:
Believe it or not...you do get to the point where you don't notice it anymore.
The fact that they are outdoors also helps a lot.
Perdue 11-23-2006, 07:20 PM The fact that they are outdoors also helps a lot.
And on a beach where they can smell like fish and sea water as well.
pacejunkie 11-23-2006, 07:38 PM I'm sure the salt water and seaweed smell overpowers anything.
Do we get more squeamish about hygiene as we get older? Because those waterbasins they fill their bottles with really gross me out. Bacteria breeding grounds.

LOL. Maybe so because those waterbasins make me quesy too.

Back to Lost...remember the magazine Kate brought Sawyer with the tips on how to feather your hair? Who here had feathered hair? I knew girls with the big plastic combs in their back pockets they used to flip the sides back all the time.
Okay I confess: I had Farrah hair.
Who has the best hair on Lost? I think Claire does.
And oh boy I just remembered I have one of those old Archie records. And I still have the Monkees on 45's.
Save The Humans 11-23-2006, 09:06 PM How timely! The Thanksgiving episode! That was my favourite one. I remember that report as he realized what was plummeting to the ground, "Oh my God, they're turkeys!"
And the Big Guy stumbles in and intones: "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!" :24:
Ah, memories. . . .
Who has the best hair on Lost? I think Claire does.
Nuh-uh. It's Sun.
Well, I want to know how all of guys can keep a perfect 6 to 7 day stubble, why Sawyer's hair grows and Jack's doesn't and why all of the ladies have great hair (a bit tangled, but still) and are silky smooth.
Because the scripts say so. Mystery solved!
CrazyLatin007 11-23-2006, 09:12 PM As for the hair growth and stubble on the guys, it's all a result of the electromagnetism reacting to their different energies in their bodies, off course (you know that's how they'll explain everything, don't you?)
As for the lack of body hair in the ladies (yes even in the middle of the sex scene I checked to see if Evie had armpit hair), I've come to the conclusion that long ago, these ladies went in for one of those laser hair removal procedures, and that's a conection we'll be shown later. They all probably went to the same beautician back in Sidney.
As to the ladies' monthly curse... I hope they stashed plenty of Dharma femenine supplies before the hatch blew up (or in??). Can you picture the TV add for these?
Back to memory lane, did anyone else had the 45 pink player that came with a big pink plastic case to store all the records?
And since we're talking about music, I don't care how old anyone is, if you never had Beatle fever at some point, you're not worthy of that iPod!!! I remember regretting not being born in the mid 50s so I could have been a teenager when they first graced us with their genius.
Save The Humans 11-23-2006, 09:28 PM To be a tweener when The Beatles broke loose in 1963 (Ed Sullivan Show), you'd have been born in the EARLY 1950s. But mid-50s is OK, too. I was born in 1955. I loved The Beatles!
Do not mention the ladies curse to ME! I have extra problems with it, and being crashed on the Island. . .let's just say the Island would've had to "cure" me of my curse to have survived without MAJOR embarrassment! :D
As to toiletries, obviously, Smokey took them all! :wink3:
(Smokey makes such a perfect excuse/reason for everything, doesn't he? :10:)
nonnyd 11-23-2006, 09:37 PM Guess this is the place for me, nonnyd, a ripe old 42. I had one of those big David Cassidy posters and listed to the Partridge Family album nonstop for a year.
Here's a story about the generation chasm. I was carpooling my preschool son's friend. This kid has had tons of playdates, seen every minivan in town. He got into my car and exclaimed, astonished, "Mrs. D, your car doesn't have a TV!" Like I didn't have a steering wheel or something. :)

 Funny. We don't have a digital camera yet (our film camera is in great shape and works fine). Anyway, my kindergartner's friend saw her take a picture with it in class the other day and the friend came up and asked if she could see the picture on the back. I had to explain the concept of a camera with film. :undecide:
I want to know why if they can cut rags to make nappies for Aaron, why can't they take a pile of abandoned clothes and that sewing kit that Jack found and make some baby clothes for Aaron. The poor kids gonna grow up naked. Does he have to be an adult before he can get some clothes there? There's gotta be kids' clothes in the luggage. What about the sun? The kids gonna fry! I'd stick a big t-shirt on him if I had to.
And welcome nonnyd!

Yes, I worried for Claire too after she had the baby.

Yes, I remember a couple of years ago explaining to my son (he's now 10) the concept of vinyl LP's. I even dug out my old turntable to demonstrate. He was like 'wow!', but I got the impression he was just wondering why on earth someone would invent this when CD's were so much better!

I remember that my neighbor and sometimes friend, Mary Jo, gave me a record (GASP! A record?) that had "Da-do-run-run" on it and then...she took it back a day or two later saying that her mother said that she couldn't give it away to anyone! Yeah, right, Mary Jo!
I loved the Monkeys! I watched that show endlessly. I remember thinking that they really got themselves into some serious trouble. Yeah, right. Try getting stranded on a crazy Island for size, Monkey Men!
This is flash-forwarding it a bit, but I remember loving Pierce Bronson in "Remington Steele". I thought he was so cute. Ironically, he was probably my current age back then...okay...maybe a bit younger...
Sign me, up PJ! I am glad that this thread became a reality...

CrazyLatin007 11-24-2006, 01:09 PM Welcome Junie! Remember when Johnny Depp was just that guy on 21 Jumpstreet? ;)
This reminded me of things like:
Rob Lowe's career was jump started by girlfriend Melissa Gilbert from Little House on the Prairie. At the time, she was famous and he was a side note.
Brad Pitt had not one but TWO appearances in Growing Pains, one as a love interest for Carol in high school, another as a rock star. At the time Kirk Cameron was one of biggest teen idols.
Leonardo DiCaprio also had his start in Growing Pains. What other big stars beginnings can you recall?
elfdream 11-24-2006, 01:24 PM I remember when Tom Hanks was in a short run sitcom with Peter Scolari about two guys having to dress up like women so they could live in a woman's only boarding house. It had that Billy Joel song "Its My Life' as the theme.
He also had a couple of funny episodes in "Family Ties' as Alex's uncle.
Wasn't George Clooney on 'The Facts of Life'?
oceanic_lisa 11-24-2006, 01:43 PM Yay! This thread's a reality! Count me in, 36 and a half. :D
Culture Club!! That was my One True Fandom in high school. I got to meet Boy George when I was 16. Of my vast record collection, the only ones I've saved were my Beatles records and my Culture Club records. (I dressed up as the Boy for Halloween once). :) I wish there had been an internet then.

Juniebun, I had a HUGE crush on Pierce Brosnan. And I was pissed when they wouldn't let him out of his contract to do a James Bond film.

Bosom Buddies!! I'll bet Peter Scolari's not happy with *his* agent... Tom's really made out. And yes, George Clooney was not only on "The Facts of Life" but also on an earlier version of ER -- the comedy!

I was more of a Bruce Willis "Moonlighting" fan than Pierce Brosnan. The term "boink" really came from David Addison on Moonlighting. Gotta love that.
I remember George Clooney on "Facts of Life" - he was so cute. I actually remember one of his lines. He was sitting in the girls' gift shop and reading Teen Beat or something and read the headline "'Stars share their favourite breakfasts' - Wow, how do they get people to open up like that?"
Guess who else was on Facts of Life - Mackenzie Astin (who played Kate's childhood love, Tom, on "Lost"). He was just a little guy then and so adorable!
I loved Bosom Buddies - Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari are still friendly from that show. In fact, Tom cast Peter as a Dick Clark-type TV announcer in "That Thing You Do".
Hey, remember "Family" or "Eight is Enough", "The Waltons"?
elfdream 11-24-2006, 02:32 PM I really liked Pierce Brosnan as well. I remember being so sad when his first wife died. Remington Steele was my first experience with the continuing unresolved 'ship'. My mom liked Moonlighting but I could never really get into it.
The Waltons supposedly took place not far from here. It was great fun to hear them occaisonly reference "The Shenandoah Valley' and other familar places.

I remember that - that was after most of the Ingalls had left and I think only Laura and Almanzo were left ("Manly"). I was so happy when Laura turned 16 and Almanzo finally realized he loved her...sigh.
Can we do polls here? We should do one on the best TV shows, movies and music of the 70's and 80's.

Guess who else was on Facts of Life - Mackenzie Astin (who played Kate's childhood love, Tom, on "Lost"). He was just a little guy then and so adorable!
The funny thing is, I don't think Mackenzie Astin ever grew up, because in my mind he and Sean are still Patty Duke's little boys. It's hard to picture them as adults now.
Hey, remember "Family" or "Eight is Enough", "The Waltons"?
I loved Family! I also liked Eight Is Enough and Little House. Anyone remember James at 15 (later to become James at 16)?
Dany_E 11-24-2006, 06:42 PM Remember when Culture Club was on the A-Team?
??? - Nope - I'll have to take your word for that one.
I loved Bosom Buddies! Anyone remember when Billy Crystal was on Soap? Soap was such a funny show.
I remember Soap and Billy Crystal! Remember "Benson"? (Soap spinoff)
I loved Family! I also liked Eight Is Enough and Little House. Anyone remember James at 15 (later to become James at 16)?
I remember James at 15 - what was that actor's name - he was in everything in the late 70's? He was in one of those TV movies written by Michael Landon about a running star who "learned" to run because he used to wet the bed and he had to run home every day before anyone else got there cause his mother used to hang his soiled sheets out the window to try and embarrass him into continence. It was called "The Loneliest Runner`` - I know it sounds lame but, at the time, I found it heartbreaking.
I think I can still name all the kids from Eight is Enough - David, Mary, Susan, Joanie, Nancy, Elizabeth, Willie, Nicholas - woohoo for me.
Geez - I don't think I did anything but watch TV when I was little.
Guess what was on the satellite movies the other night? "Little Darlings" with Kristy McNichol and Tatum O'Neal (and Matt Dillon in his first film role). I hadn't realized it but Cynthia Nixon from "Sex in the City" was in it too - she played the flower child.
Perdue 11-24-2006, 06:45 PM Speaking of Pierce Brosnan, I was on the same plane recently with him. And Liam Neesen. They were filming a movie in my home town. It was a tiny plane--only 9 seats in first class so they were up close and personal. I'm not sure why they didn't just take a private plane, but there they were. Pierce was on his cell, but Liam was very sweet.

Alas, it was too small of a plane. LOL.
But he was adorable. The plane was so small that I was standing knee to knee to him for several minutes as people were being seated. I didn't want to bother his privacy but he smiled at me for some time as if to say, "Thanks for not saying anything."
pacejunkie 11-24-2006, 07:01 PM I remember James at 15 - what was that actor's name - he was in everything in the late 70's?
I want to say Lance Kerwin. Is that right?

lost and found 11-24-2006, 09:11 PM Kristy McNichol was all over the place.
Do you remember 'The Pirate Movie'? It was a muscical/comedy which also starred Christopher Atkins, who was nearly every girls (and probably some boys:rolleyes:) teenage heart-throb at the time.
As far as 'Before They Were Famous', how can we forget John Travolta in 'Welcome Back, Kotter'?
Here's my 'Remember When' list.
Remember When......
1) We actually cooked without a microwave oven
2) We paid with cash
3) Kids were allowed to visit the cockpit when flying
4) If you weren't home in time to watch your favourite t.v. show, you missed it
5) People had to choose between VHS or Beta (those poor Beta owners)
6) Families ate together
7) We were too young to write 'Remember When' lists?
justluvit 11-24-2006, 09:52 PM I was going to have a break from the fuse and all the “Sawyer and Kate making love”; “Jack is going to die”; “Jate is fate” and Jack and Desmond are drool worthy so I came on one final time and lo and behold I found this thread….now this looks kewl
Ok ....I am 44 and have four sons….I don’t remember my 20’s as it was all about morning sickness, having a belly that turned corners before I did (felt like it anyway:rolleyes: ), giving birth, sleepless nights, potty training, washing, ironing, grabbing a coveted “cuddle” whenever and where-ever from my Doc hubby and on the odd occasion staring into space with my mouth open while a baby suckled on the boob….I don’t remember my 30’s much as I was widowed, solo parenting four growing aliens from Mars, running frantically between football, tennis, swimming, basketball, cricket, piano, guitar and drum lessons, school and my boy’s friends homes.....went back to nursing for a while (that sucked as a solo parent of 4) so moved into buying, revamping and selling homes (had a knack for it). Then out of the blue life began again at 40 and I am now surrounded by these four loving, protective sane(ish) basically grown-up males.....there had to be something positive about giving birth so young.........I now go to uni, run nearly everyday on the beach, listen to the birds sing, watch the sun rise if I’m up, sleep in if I want to, go to dinner with my sons and share a glass of wine with them, they ask me where I am going and not to drink and drive, watch and discuss Lost with them and my sons download my music from my iPod and basically I don’t really know what people my age are talking about (unless its property, the stockmarket and cars ;) )…but I know how young males think and what they do and why they do it because for some reason my sons think its ok to tell me or forget that I’m around when they have their frequent macho “bro” gatherings (makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end)….oh and if I say something really “feminine/chickish” in those gatherings, it’s like in a cartoon where everyone stops talking and all heads turn in unison and stare and you could hear a pin drop….
I can honestly say I don't really remember what I wore (unless shown a photo) or what I watched on telly for nearly half my life......(did catch the news though when I could and read a lot.....had to keep the brain active somehow ;) )
Dany_E 11-24-2006, 10:14 PM I can honestly say I don't really remember what I wore (unless shown a photo) or what I watched on telly for nearly half my life......

The hero's last name was Hinkley. The only reason I remember is because its the same last name as the guy who shot Reagan and they thought about changing the characters name because of that. They didn't.
I remember that song but not the artist. That song seems to go together with 'Dragging the Line' in my head but I can't remember the artist who sang that one either.

I was trying to remember who the actor was though.

It's a great trivia question because it's a song that everyone knows yet I promise you, you'll hear the band's name and go, huh? Usually people guess The Band, The Allman Brothers, etc. but no. I won't say it yet if people still want to guess.
jellyfrog 11-24-2006, 11:06 PM I was trying to remember who the actor was though.
William Katt. Why I know this off the top of my head I can't imagine.

Brewer and Shipley (one hit wonder)?
I cheated cause I just downloaded it (told you I'd been around young males for too long) ...
How was I going to join in if I didn't :lol2: :wink1: ....
Perdue 11-24-2006, 11:23 PM ….I don’t remember my 20’s as it was all about morning sickness, having a belly that turned corners before I did, giving birth, sleepless nights, potty training, washing, ironing, grabbing a coveted “cuddle” whenever and where-ever from my Doc hubby and on the odd occasion staring into space with my mouth open while a baby suckled on the boob….I don’t remember my 30’s much as I was widowed, solo parenting four growing aliens from Mars, running frantically between football, tennis, swimming, basketball, cricket, piano, guitar and drum lessons, school, my boy’s friends homes and teaching my oldest two to drive (that was not fun) went back to nursing for a while (that sucked as a solo parent of 4) so moved into buying, revamping and selling homes.
I think that those years when you are having babies and raising little ones are sort of a blurr as to culture etc. Harder when you are a widow, I'm sure, but just being in the midst of all the things you do to raise a child, what's on the tv, who's popular etc. just sort of fall to the bottom of the barrell. I can't tell you what was on the top of the charts in 1980s because I was listening to Raffi. Over and over and over and over and over.
Save The Humans 11-24-2006, 11:29 PM Thanks, jellyfrog! I was about to answer the Katt question! :10:
Robert Culp was a hoot as the Fed who worked assignments with him. Made the word "scenario" hip; kinda like what Sarah Jones did with "agreeance" some 20 years later! :D
I was SUCH a TV addict. Basically cold-turkeyed it in 1989. Though I kept up thru reading articles and viewing shows on the laundromat TV. Nowadays, there is LOST. That's it. LOST.
Oh, and I'm now an Internet addict! Bet you would've never guessed! :24:
pacejunkie 11-24-2006, 11:29 PM William Katt. Why I know this off the top of my head I can't imagine.
Weird. That doesn't even sound familiar. Did I ever know that?

Aw, I knew someone was going to google it. You got it though. I know the song well but I swear I have never heard of that band.
How was I going to join in if I didn't :lol2: :wink1: ....I was dazed and confused before 20 (was that you elf that commented on the young articulate teens on this board?) and I don't have much memory till 40...lol
You're excused. ;)

That's why I waited until the late nineties to start having my kids. I remember all pop culture up to 1998. After that it's Wiggles, Barney, Teletubbies.....

Yep, when you are deep in wee-one culture, everything else vanishes.
The name of the President of France? Who knows and who cares?
Which Teletubby is blue? Critical information.
The current rate of exchange between the dollar and Euro? Say what?
How much the latest hot PlayStation game costs? Essential.
LOL.

Actually I can now sit down and talk about world issues, the stock market, the property market, philosophy, law, media issues etc (2 studying Law and one studying Journalism). I must add though that during those hectic years I did make sure to talk about the news/current affairs with my sons and take them to the theatre three or four times a year....I remember making them sit through "Turandot" "West Side Story" "Phantom of the Opera" to name a few (surprisingly they were all quite taken in by live theatre)
pacejunkie 11-24-2006, 11:59 PM The name of the President of France? Who knows and who cares?
I honestly don't know.
Which Teletubby is blue?
trick question! There is no blue Teletubbie!
:frown: That is sooooooo pathetic of me.
Perdue 11-25-2006, 12:20 AM trick question! There is no blue Teletubbie!
Oooo....so good of you. And did you notice the misspelling of Teletubby?
We elders are nothing if not devious. LOL.
Jacque Chirac. President of France. At the moment.
miss emme 11-25-2006, 12:46 AM Hellooo everyone :wavey: I'm 47 going on 29, been 29 now for a few years. I have a 22 yo son that got back at me for everything I did to my mother. He's grown into a fine young man, I am very proud of him.
Reading through the posts brought back lots of good memories. I still have some of my 33's of the Partrige Family, Bay City Rollers, K-Tel, The Osmonds. Anyone remember Crazy Horses.
I had a crush on Leif Garrett. I can't remember anyone else but I'm sure there were others that made my teenage heart go pitterpat.
I remember watching The Waltons, The Sonny & Cher show, Saturday morning cartoons. The Carol Burnett show on a black & white tv. How about Flip Wilson or The Red Foxx show. Where we lived (out in the boonies) we only had two channels and to go from one to the other we had to go outside and turn the arial (I think I spelt that wrong)
Bell bottoms or elephant pants, earth shoes, listening to my cassettes on my portable tape recorder. Speaking of toe socks, the young lady I work with that just turned 19 yesterday, was showing off her toe socks a couple of weeks ago. I had an original mood ring up until a few years ago then someone broke into my house and stole it out of my jewelery box. I'm not sure what they thought they could get for it.
I wore Charlie perfume, remember Loves Baby Soft? And yes I did the hair flip, that took hours to curl.
My mom saved my Mrs. Beasley doll. Oh yeah I mentioned this in the "Back in the Day" thread. Black lights and black light posters, especially the velvet ones. haha.
Oh and Draggin' the line wasn't that Tommy James and the Shondells. Woot!! I was right. (I just did a search)

Hi! I had a Mrs. Beasley doll! Another thing that would be worth a fortune if I still had it. I had a Quisp doll too. I forgot to mention I still have my Boy Snoopy doll in the original box though. That one I kept. I tried to find out if its worth anything yet but I couldn't find another one like it on the internet.
Loves Baby Soft. That brings up memories. Remember using baby oil to tan with? Jean Nate body splash? flavoured lip gloss in glass roll on tubes?
Remember Holly Hobby?

Earlier in this thread, where I would only admit to being 39, I did mention that my son keeps telling me unless I go up a couple of years at least soon I will have had him when I was 10. So, yes, I think it's having had sons that creates this amazing effect of youth on us. I tell him, when you turn 29, I'll think about moving up a few years. But then I point out it is perfectly possible that I had him when I was 13, so he can just hush up a little longer. LOL

LOL...Well you'd thing after reviewing my life that I'd look ancient :eek2: but apparently not, my eldest is quite ruggedly handsome and looks mature for his age....and twice now we've been mistaken for a "modern" couple when out at lunch...his response is "oh god no...that's my mum" (but I think secretly proud of me).....you know what it is?...the worry and sleepless nights fall away and the joy of seeing them make it shines through.....Never fear....I tell you, boys keep you young :14happy: :74happy:
Perdue 11-25-2006, 02:24 AM Never fear...I tell you again, boys keep you young :14happy: :74happy:
But first they age you. LOL.
miss emme 11-25-2006, 02:36 AM That is so cool justluv, I'm sure your son is proud of you. I'll never forget the first time I heard my son use the word "peace" actually he and his buddies say "peace out" I was like "hey we use to say that word". Or the day I was driving him home from work and an old rock song came on...April Wines "Say Hello" and he turned it up.
Yeah I remember the roll on lip gloss!!
God's tom 11-25-2006, 04:17 AM Is there anyone here who remembers a spy show of the 70s called "Search"? I loved that show! I wish I could find it on DVD!
How about one from the 80s called "Masquerade"?
workingmom 11-25-2006, 09:44 AM justluvit, you deserve a place to just put your feet up. This group is for you. My jaw dropped reading your story. Thanks for sharing it. I don't know how you made it through but it's wonderful to hear how great things turned out. If you can't remember to reminisce, don't worry. Just enjoy the companionship of your fellow Elders. Welcome.

luvs, great to see you here!
I'm late to the contest, but I can proudly report that I came up with Brewer & Shipley in 10 seconds flat without resorting to Google or reading further down the posts.
Speaking of songs we knew were awful yet still listened to them, who can name the duo that recorded Afternoon Delight?
100%
Welcome Junie! Remember when Johnny Depp was just that guy on 21 Jumpstreet? ;)
I've liked him since then -- that was such a good show. Now my daughters are hot for him and I simply can't break the news to them that a) he is their mom's age and b) their mom thinks he's hot too.
miss emme 11-25-2006, 10:37 AM Johnny Depp *sigh* yup gotta like that man, hes such a good actor. I can't think of who did "Afternoon Delight" I'd have to search so I'll leave it for someone who can guess without doing that.
Oh yeah eta: heres another oldie but goodie tv show. Bonanza or how about remember when the NBC logo was a peacock (or the tail of)
