Josh is just incredible with his acting ability. Some points....
1. While he was standing at the shrimp truck you could just feel the pain coming off him in waves.
2. Talking with Sayid about the whispers you could just feel the wanting to confide.
3. Drinking with Kate you felt the hurt of him killing someone.
4. With Jack he wanted to tell him about his dad. I think it hurt him not to.

This actor makes me feel him. He makes me understand what he is feeling in a scene.

What a GREAT actor!

YES! THANK YOU!! ;D

Agree with everything you said. I always loved him as Sawyer but this episode just blew me away. I loved it! I hope we get to see a lot more of him in the near future. Not only on Lost but other stuff as well!* ;)

Can you believe he's been trying for EIGHT years to make it in Hollywood?! He needs a new agent. ;) (There's some discussion about this in the "Aw, he's good with kids, too" thread.)

I can't wait to see him on the big screen. Someone somewhere on this website said he would make a great Gambit (from the X-Men comics, apparently), and in the scene where he was trying to give the letter to Frank and realized he had shot the wrong guy -- it's exactly like the picture from the comic book. It'd be great if they could get him in X-Men 3, if there's going to be one.

If anyone's interested we just started a ship dedicated to Josh/Sawyer called D.I.M.P.L.E.S. where we plan on talking about some of his other projects as well as critiquing (sp?) his scenes from Lost.

Yeah, he's not just a pretty face (though handsome certainly is apropos). An awesome acting job throughout the whole show, but especially in "Outlaws." He absolutely made me FEEL Sawyer's pain. I am so totally impressed. To go along with what someone else posted, it IS hard to believe that it took him this long to become recognized. I agree -- he needs a new agent.

Yeah, I was floored by Josh's acting in 'Outlaws'...he has the ability to display emotions extremely well.

I love the X3 idea!

No wonder Lindelof (SP?) said Josh was amazing in this episode...he sure was..and great writing too! Best episode so far in the first season and NOT just cos it was a Sawyer centric episode! It really got Josh to show off his acting chops and just shows how GOOD he really is when the script is VERY good too...this guy deserves a shot at the big screen!

I think Josh is a great actor....he convinces me that he is scum in one eppy and then turns around and makes me think that he turned out very well after having to deal with stuff in his life. Very convincing.

Yeah--I agree! He has really done a great job with his character....I will always love him, but sometimes he really convinces me he's a jerk, and then the next look, you see all that pain behind his eyes!!!!!!!! Makes me wanna go kiss it and make it all better!

He IS a very good actor, does anyone else know of anything else he was in? I have seen everyone else except shannon in something diff, just wondering. It would be interesting to see. ;)

According to Josh, he's done seven movies in the eight years he's been trying to make it big. I've only been able to find the title of 3 of them. I'll be posting some links to info on them on the D.I.M.P.L.E.S. thread tomorrow.

AND - this was one of the best things I found out - remember the Aerosmith video "Cryin'" with Alicia Silverstone? Remember when she goes into the restaurant and this cute guy gives her the eye and then ends up stealing her purse, and she chases him and knocks him down? That was JOSH!!

There used to be a still/screen capture from it on the Josh Holloway Fan website, but I can't find it there anymore, nor have I been able to find it anywhere else on the web. Can anyone help us find it?

I'm also pretty floored that he's been trying so long to make it in Hollywood. He's incredibly talented. And he's good looking, and he certainly doesn't seem to be a man-diva. Yet people like David Caruso (bless him) who are neither talented nor good looking make it Hollywood. What gives? Regardless, I'm glad that Lost got it's hands on such a talented group of actors. And a wonderful writing team as well. (*cough*pleasemakeDrewapermanentfixture) Now, I really must find this "Crying" video. Because that is wonderful! I love finding out about all these little places he's showed up before, like Angel and CSI. ;D

Just want to add my voice to the chorus.* This man is a GOOD actor, and the sad thing is that some people won't see past how good looking he is.* Lets face it, the looks can be distracting* ;)

There are so many things he does well.* He shifts emotions very easily with just a look, or a slight change in his vocal tone.* Case it point, the scene with Sayid from Outlaws.* One minute he's threatening him, the next he's asking him about the voices without a hint of menace.* He's SO good at that shift.* Something just comes over him, and you can feel his mood alter.* Thats just good acting folks.

He's also blessed to have presence and chemistry with his fellow actors.* I think that might be just a little luck of the draw.* IMO, Evangeline Lilly just comes alive opposite him.* She's always good, she's especially good with him.* Sometimes that spark just happens.

I thought the raw anguish he showed when he realized he'd just shot an innocent man was amazing,he didn't worry about looking "cool",you could see the pain and horror his character was feeling.

I totally agree, Sabretooth (love the name!), that was one of my favorite parts.* That's the scene that reminded me of the picture of Gambit from the X Men comics.* I saw it on an avatar for the poster called DeathIsYourArt.* It was his idea that they looked so similar.* That picture popped right in my head when I saw that scene.

You're right, ValerieJ.* I think that's why Sawyer fans get teased a lot -- people think we like him just because of his looks.* But I remember seeing him in the first few episodes and thinking, yeah he's cute, but he's going to be the a**hole on the show.* Then Confidence Man came around and we got to see what was really inside.* I love how they do that with all the characters, but it was especially poignent with Sawyer because he does act so bad.* It's a hard job to get people to care for him.* He got a lot of fans after Confidence Man, and from what I've read after Outlaws, he's picked up even more.

You're right, ValerieJ.* I think that's why Sawyer fans get teased a lot -- people think we like him just because of his looks I was surprised when I recently came across posts that stereotype Sawyer fans as people who don't ever contribute more than "omg, he's dreamy." Yes, most of us probably think he's attractive but we also appreciate the layered performance that Josh brings to Sawyer. I'm constantly impressed by his ability to shift emotions as ValerieJ mentioned and to make "throwaway" lines memorable--I loved the "yeah" in his cologne discussion with Kate because it conveyed Sawyer's exasperation at being unable to come up with a snappy comeback along with a few other emotions  . It just gets better and better ;) .

So we just like Sawyer for his looks? What about those who likes Jack, is that for his looks too? Or Charlie? Or Sayid? Or Boone?. These guys are all good looking, I serioulsy doubt that is the only reason why many likes these characters too.

It shows more about the poster who posted this question than the real story of the Sawyer fans....if the poster thinks we like Sawyer ONLY cos of the looks maybe that is all the poster can see? Maybe the poster is that shallow?

Personally looks only hold so far for me, there has to be more to it than just looks. And to be honest I didn't fall for Saywer untill a scene in Tabula Rasa...where he showed that there was ALOT more behind that exterior than first met the eye, untill then I just enjoyed the show. I had NO favorites but did look to see Dom in that show, but nope I had no faves. Untill the scene that followed when Sawyer had shot the marshall and the marshall still survived...Sawyer totally got me then :D.

So sorry that so called generalization doesn't even cut close to what MY reasons for having Sawyer as my fave character in the show are.

Marystat and Bliss, you guys know I agree with you, right?* I like Sawyer for the character, not the looks.* They're just icing on the cake.* I am not calling any one shallow -- that would be calling myself shallow, because I like him, too.* I'm just saying I think that's what the others assume.* Maybe I'm reading you guys wrong and you don't think I'm calling you shallow, but you know I'm in agreement with you, right?* ??? :o

TRoss--I wasn't disagreeing with you; I thought I was extending your point but I guess I was unclear(I probably should have added also before surprised) :D . I read you as explaining how some people view Sawyer fans and then explaining why it wasn't true by using yourself as an example. I'm shocked that you even have to ask, Cupcake :-* .

Marystat--Are you referring to me, TRoss, or posters who slam Sawyer fans? TRoss and I are both huge Sawyer supporters and I've recently been defending us (Sawyer fans) against unfair generalizations(I can direct you to some posts if you like ;) ). I think this snafu is just a misunderstanding because I think we're all saying the same thing  .

Thanks, Bliss.* :) I'm still a little wary after yesterday.* It seemed like I wasn't making myself clear, so I was worried I did the same thing here.* :P ::)

No worries; I'm glad you asked. It's always a pleasant surprise when someone asks for clarification before assuming the worse :) . I think it's really easy to misinterpret a post or write one that doesn't say exactly what you meant because it's hard to get the tone across even if the smilies help out a little(although they sometimes confuse the meaning too) :D .

I'm looking forward to seeing some more excellent acting from Josh tomorrow night ;D .

Well of COURSE we like the man for his talent!! But I also watch him because he is some "major Eye-Candy"! :o

If you want to truly pick up on the talent of this man - fast forward your tape to when Sawyer comes to return the gun to Jack and has the conversation with him about his Father. When Sawyer realizes that the man he talked to was Jack's Dad his expression is one of surprise, disbelief, confusion and a little dismay/disappointment as he realizes that the man Jack's Dad was talking about was JACK.

***Then*** ever so carefully watch when Jack asks Sawyer why he wants to know about his father*** WATCH SAWYER'S FACIAL EXPRESSION change before your very eyes!!! :o
"Surprise, disbelief, confusion, dismay, disappointment - mask" and then "Sawyer-mask". In the twist of an expression he changes one mask for the other! Unbelievable!

Awesome delivery!!

BTW - Josh was in the movie Sabretooth. Kinda hokey - but Josh and John Rhys-Davies made the movie!

That was INCREDIBLE wasn't it?! I love an actor who can get something across without words. There's something about facial expressions that are truer than any spoken word. And this boy has it down.

Awe Tross I never thought you weren't agreeing with us!! I was simply talking in general :) none of that was directed towards you *hugs*.

And I agree on that final scene in Outlaws, talk about a range of emotions in a few seconds...the same was just after Sawyer shot Frank too allthough the scene was very dark. The range still showed from anger to shock to horror and grief over what he did. Yes Josh got it down for sure. And to think that the Lost creators only wanted to portray Sawyer as some slick suitwearing jerk. Josh said on Kimmel Live that he "better get some humanity in this guy fast otherwise I'd be on the first raft outta there til doom!" LOL!

So yes Josh can act and there is a well of depth to the character, more layers are uncovered by each episode, sometimes deeper and other times more subtle.

I was incredibly impressed with Josh in "Outlaws"...and I didn't even think that it was possible for me to be MORE impressed with him! ;D

He is just so charasmatic...he's just mesmerizing to watch on screen!

The scene that really blew ME away, was when he first confronted Frank at the Shrimp Trunk. His hands were shaking uncontrollably as he held the gun and he was on the verge of tears just trying to pull it together...it just broke my heart...and blew me away!!

And in terms of the discussion about whether or not Sawyer fans are interested in him purely for his looks...I literally wanted to kick him in the face in the pilot episode...lol. I thought 'great, just what we need...another good looking a**hole!!". Then slowly throughout the next couple of episodes I just started to notice that he amused me, and that I looked forward to watching him screen because he had this spark. After The Moth I found myself really anticipating Confidence Man...

And then by the time Confidence Man was over I was COMPLETELY captivated. And I think that is due in large part to how incredibly expressive Josh is with the smallest of facial expressions...and how you just read all this stuff beneath the surface. Even when he's being a jerk...he's so charming that you can't help yourself. And when he has more vulnerable moments...it's just...WOW...

LOL...I'm completely smitten!!* ;D
