View Full Version : Favorite Super Bowl Commercials
Baileysdad 02-04-2007, 10:53 PM Pick your top commercials and tell us why.
I thought the "Man Kiss" and the Robert Gullet spots were hillarious as was that poor mouse on the Blockbuster ad.
Did I leave any out you would like to see in the poll??
Superman 02-04-2007, 11:20 PM the comb over and face slap were the best ones... this year's commercials were kind of meh... nothing really stood out to me other than those 2
ame en peine 02-04-2007, 11:33 PM My favorite was Coke's take on Grand Theft Auto.. I think they nailed the look of it and I loved that they took a down-and-dirty game and turned it into a feel-good parody..
Most of Bud's were really good, but none were outstanding.. Out of theirs, I liked the dalmation spot the best...
Not to sound too girlie, but the commercials seemed really violent this year. The Career Builders had people like lemmings jumping off a cliff, Fedex had a man wiped out by a comet, and the theme just seemed to be either kill someone or really hurt them... (or maybe I just really miss the Career Builder monkeys)
eta - I must have missed the blockbuster ad... looking on youtube...
briar910 02-04-2007, 11:53 PM I voted for the blockbuster mouse one, but overall I thought the commercials were kinda lame. Nothing special.
ETA: hasn't that coke grand theft auto commercial been around for awhile now? They show it as an ad everytime I go to the movies. Maybe this is the first time it has been on tv though.
Aurora10 02-04-2007, 11:59 PM Yeah, not that great this year.
I loved the slap replaces the fist bump one. People are gonna start doing that now. Hehehe.
The fake dalmation one...OMG. Yeah. I cried. Yes, yes, I am a sap. Dogs are my weakness! Especially sad ones! :(
The Emerald Nuts, Snickers, and beard comb-over were quite funneh.
Joshypoo 02-05-2007, 12:01 AM I don't see mine listed - unless I've had a few too many. It's the Bud Light couple in the car that pick up the guy with the axe, then he's afraid of picking up the guy with the chainsaw. I thought that was funny!
miss emme 02-05-2007, 01:12 AM I haven't seen some of them but what I've seen my favorite is the Blockbuster one.
penyours 02-05-2007, 01:44 AM Hey did Apple have a commercial at the super bowl this year, that was the rumour going around for a few weeks - apple would release something new with a super bowl commercial.
Baileysdad 02-05-2007, 01:55 AM THe only one I saw was the built in webcam commercial...could have slipped past me as I reached for another plate of nachos...
ame en peine 02-05-2007, 07:50 AM I saw a "best-of" clip of the Blockbuster mouse ad - what a riot. Dragging the poor mouse and clicking his little head.. very good!
ETA: hasn't that coke grand theft auto commercial been around for awhile now? They show it as an ad everytime I go to the movies. Maybe this is the first time it has been on tv though. that would explain why I've never seen it - need to get to the movies more....
Blue Coral 02-05-2007, 09:27 AM The Man Kiss one was funny.
I loved the Reverse Bank Robbery. That was a great idea for a commercial. Funny.
pacejunkie 02-05-2007, 09:39 AM I don't see mine listed - unless I've had a few too many. It's the Bud Light couple in the car that pick up the guy with the axe, then he's afraid of picking up the guy with the chainsaw. I thought that was funny!
I loved that one! I also like the Snickers bar man kiss, but I voted for the FedEx ground names. That had me laughing.
My favourite one also wasn't listed though, and that was the GM commercial with the robot obsessed with quality. He drops a screw and dreams about leaving his job and ending it all. My kids thought the robot was so cute.
Hanso Founder 02-05-2007, 10:05 AM The face slap and beard comb over were a tie for me
100%
and the Doritos crash
JohnnyREB1977 02-05-2007, 12:04 PM Hey y'all,
My two favorites were rodent-related, but only one was shown durin' the Super Bowl. That was the Blockbuster mouse ad. Hilarious
The other was shown on the best of thing on Friday night. It was a Dorito's commercial where this guy put a small piece of a Dorito on a mouse trap to entice the little vermin to come out and get caught. Well, this big honkin' rat (dude in a rat suit) busts through the wall and beats down the fella for the bag.
(I did like the GM robot one, though. That was cute, though not a favorite).
Petragrrl 02-05-2007, 01:12 PM The only ads I thought were standing out this year were the Budweiser ones... my personal favorite being the crab one - that one actually made me laugh out loud.
Living in Wisconsin, I also enjoyed the NFL ad... with fans of various teams coming to grips with the fact that their team didn't make it to the Superbowl... a line that reads: "It's hard to say good-bye"... fade to Brett Favre, and a line reading something like "For some it's even harder"
:)
God's tom 02-05-2007, 02:01 PM I didn't watch the game, but I looked up some of the commercials online. My favorite was the Blockbuster mouse ad.
Baileysdad 02-05-2007, 02:05 PM I forget to put the Bud "Rock, paper, Scissors" one on the list. It was hillarious.
Superman 02-05-2007, 02:11 PM all the bud light and sierra mist ones were the best... the sierra mist karate one was good
Southern Belle 02-05-2007, 06:12 PM I loved the Blockbuster mouse...poor little guy...
The beard comb-over was just plain gross and did you see when he stood up??? eewwwww....
Did anyone see the talking Lions...seriously cool.
And I agree with the vast majority here...the commercials this year were nothing special, a few funny ones and a lot of  ones.
Carencey 02-05-2007, 06:14 PM easily the 'Robert Goulet messes with your stuff' one here...we also liked another one not on the list, the 'is your heart at risk for attack?' one. don't recall what it was actually advertising though.
briar910 02-05-2007, 06:32 PM Did anyone see the Oprah and David Letterman spot? It wasn't really a commercial, but it was still really funny.
penyours 02-05-2007, 06:48 PM THe only one I saw was the built in webcam commercial...could have slipped past me as I reached for another plate of nachos...
Oh okay thanks, yeah doesn't look like there was a big apple commerical, dang rumours!
gusthepolarbear 02-05-2007, 07:12 PM non related to super bowl ads ... I love the mac commercials...maybe its because im a big fan of john hodgman and his work...from his book to his acting.
I dont like that we dont get the same ads here in Canada :(
penyours 02-05-2007, 07:19 PM non related to super bowl ads ... I love the mac commercials...maybe its because im a big fan of john hodgman and his work...from his book to his acting.
I dont like that we dont get the same ads here in Canada :(
We don't get the mac ads? Really? I just saw the one where the pc gets ready for surgery on tv, though I don't know what channel it was, or do you mean a Canadian version of the commercials?
gusthepolarbear 02-05-2007, 07:32 PM I meant the same superbowl ads sorry!
Baileysdad 02-05-2007, 07:47 PM Some of our friends on the board from other countries got local commercials and not the ones we had in the states.
Not much praise for this year's crop of ads. The Tostidos were okay and were all done by amatuers...now if I had to spend $2.5 million on an ad...I would leave the contents to the pros.
I liked the Rock, Paper Scissors one, that one had me lol'ing. "Down Low" :D
I also liked the Slaping one, the Fed Ex one with Mr. Turkeyneck, Joy and Bob, the English class and the Hitchhiker ones.
None really stood out to me this year, they weren't that great. My fav. Super Bowl is the one with the Running Back in the office, tackling all the workers. That was funny.
The webjeanie.com one, or whatever it was, was just stupid. It was the one were the guy gets out of his sportscar, and then he asks the dude to play golf with him, etc. It wasn't funny, and seemed like an infomercial.... can't believe they paid millions for that.
Carencey 02-05-2007, 10:08 PM yep, nothing the past few years has quite lived up to "Terry Tate: Office Linebacker". :D
Baileysdad 02-05-2007, 10:14 PM I remember a few years ago when the Dot com companies had the monopoly on the ads and about bored the nation to death. It was awful.
This year just seemed trite. The one for those sales leads was just bizarre. I mean really...who has ever paid thousands for sales leads and, y'know, closed any of them??
miss emme 02-05-2007, 11:03 PM We don't get the mac ads? Really? I just saw the one where the pc gets ready for surgery on tv, though I don't know what channel it was, or do you mean a Canadian version of the commercials?
not related but I just had to chime in about how much I love the pc/mac commercials. I freaked the other night when they had another guy do mac's lines and I thought the mac guy was gone until he walked in and said "whats going on here?" Whew.
Baileysdad 02-05-2007, 11:11 PM I saw a story or two today about how violent the ads were too...and they really were. I was suprised..rocks to the head, guy getting obliterated by a comet, the slap in the face...people getting driven off a cliff and beaten. Wow...
Well, we were watching a game where guys chase and tackle the daylights out of each other...... :lol2:
gusthepolarbear 02-05-2007, 11:37 PM not related but I just had to chime in about how much I love the pc/mac commercials. I freaked the other night when they had another guy do mac's lines and I thought the mac guy was gone until he walked in and said "whats going on here?" Whew.
you'd probably like john hodgson (the pc's) book "the areas of my expertise" I've never before seen anybody write deadpan. I mean i've heard deadpan but never read it. Its hilarious
ame en peine 02-06-2007, 12:02 AM The one for those sales leads was just bizarre. I mean really...who has ever paid thousands for sales leads and, y'know, closed any of them??That had "Glengarry Glen Ross" written all over it.. First prize is a Cadillac, second prize is a set of steak knives, third prize is - you're fired.
non related to super bowl ads ... I love the mac commercials...maybe its because im a big fan of john hodgman and his work...from his book to his acting. He's great and I love the mac ads too.... Oh, the peripherals... ;)
NotAllThoseWhoWander 02-06-2007, 10:39 AM My family thought I had gone mad because I sat there howling with laughter for three or four minutes after the "Naked Man Carwash". I couldn't help it - the poor girl: "Make it stop!"
Burnt Sienna 02-06-2007, 02:17 PM "Bud Light"
"Bood Light"
"No, Bud Light"
"Bood Light"
LOL!!
johnnywishbone 02-06-2007, 03:12 PM Didn't see the Bud - rock paper scissors up there....maybe i just missed it it....
but that one, the face slap and the snickers kiss were definitely my favoorites
although i did like the Blockbuster one as well
all in all, there's been better in past years
gusthepolarbear 02-06-2007, 08:46 PM He's great and I love the mac ads too.... Oh, the peripherals... ;)
I loved when Jon Stewart got him to say that he was a pc when he was explaining the internet
goddessblue 02-06-2007, 09:01 PM I forget to put the Bud "Rock, paper, Scissors" one on the list. It was hillarious.
This one was my favorite! It makes me giggle every time I see it, lmao.
Did anyone see the talking Lions...seriously cool.
Carrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrne.
Carne.
Wait a second....Ricardo Montalban?
:24:
Did anyone see the Oprah and David Letterman spot? It wasn't really a commercial, but it was still really funny.
Oh that one made me giggle, too!
The ads this year weren't as great as in years past, as others said, but a few did stand out!
ame en peine 02-06-2007, 11:46 PM Did anyone see the Oprah and David Letterman spot? It wasn't really a commercial, but it was still really funny. That was really good. Especially considering the years that Letternman was begging Oprah to come on his show.
I loved when Jon Stewart got him to say that he was a pc when he was explaining the internetlol - those two together are the best..
gusthepolarbear 02-07-2007, 03:01 PM like president garfield?
no jon, garfield is a cat.
The one with kevin federline is really sad ...:(
Lost_In_Louisiana 04-01-2007, 11:07 AM This one was my favorite! It makes me giggle every time I see it, lmao.
Carrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrne.
Carne.
Wait a second....Ricardo Montalban?
:24:
You mean we aren't the only people who walk around and just start deadpanning "CaRne" at random times? I love that lion spot, cracks me up everytime! Then we can't stop saying "CaRne" for the rest of the day .....
Some of my favorite Superbowl ads were the very first Bud Bowls. It was a new concept then and just hilarious. For about 2 years after the first Bud Bowl I could say, "...and the cans are going wild!" and everyone in the room would crack up. But, as all great new ideas do, it gets old after awhile. I was still a little sad when they retired the Bud Bowl though.
tiewashere 04-07-2007, 01:20 AM Deff the combover
jet_returns 04-10-2007, 10:38 PM i voted 'mouse' and 'man kiss'
