I found out today that my aunts daughter Katie was diagnosed with Lukemia. Katie is 10 years old and at the moment they are unsure exactly what type of Leukemia she has. Today she is getting her bone marrow tested to find out for sure, but the doctor is optimistic that it's one of two types that is treatable. It would mean that she would be undergoing treatment for about a year after she gets a transplant, but that she will live. We can only hope that he is right.

Her family bought her a map of the US and are going to put a pin on every state that she recieves a postcard from. Their goal is to get one from every state, though repeats are most definantly ok.

I have now made this my personal mission, being so far away from my family that I can not give my support in person, I am taking this postcard thing on with increased vigor. After talking with my Mom and Mama (my Grandma) about how many people have expressed their concern and support in such a short period of time we've all been deeply touched. Yes, the main goal is to fill up the map of the US, however anyone outside of the US wishing to send their support in the form of a Postcard is not discouraged to do so.

Thank you all again so much for all the support you've given. As I get updates I will post them on my LJ (http://www.livejournal.com/users/lexi_dsm/).

Postcard info:

If you do wish to send the postcard please keep a few things in mind. Make sure the card you choose is tasteful (she is only 10). Also please try and have the location from which you are sending the card somewhere on it. Third, please put your name on the card, you -can- remain anonymous, but I'd like to thank all who send cards when I get word of their arrival.

If you want to help and send a post card please e-mail me at lexi@tainted-realities.net or YIM me at lexidsm or MSN at lexidsm@hotmail.com. If you can't help, please send your love in prayer, or good thoughts to Katie in hopes that she will get better and pull through this.

Thank you.

We've already tallied 14 states and one over seas, but there are duplicates, which is just fine. I do have an Illinois already, but if you still want to send a card then it would be happily accepted.

Well, are you being bombarded with email yet? :)

If not, then you should bump the topic tomorrow mid day sometime, so more people see it.

Godd luck and best wishes.

Update:

Ok, so I blame my Mom and Mama for not knowing the ages of family and thank my Auntie Beth for knowing. Katie is not 10, she's 8 and she was born with Spina bifida which has caused her to be in and out of the hospital for nine surgeries on her back and her hips. Yesterday they confirmed with the bonemarrow sample that she does infact have Leukemia and they have given her a blood transfusion and a plattlet transfusion as well as put her on more medication to help her from catching other things (like gout) while waiting for the test results to come back with the exact type of Leukemia she has.

For those who wonder, Katie likes Barbie dolls and the Disney Princesses. Here you can find a picture of Katie with her cousin Samantha. (http://www.samanthanicolescloset.com/pictures5.html) (Second picture from the bottom)

Thank you all so much for all the support you've given so far, talking with my Auntie Beth today, Katie will hear of all the love that has been expressed and thanked. I am truely amazed at the number of loving people who have already expressed their caring and concern in such a short amount of time.

Thank you all.

(Just to clear up some possible confusion. Katies mother is my Auntie Carrie, Katie is one of 10 children. Carrie is not blood related, but her and her family {starting with her parents} have been friends with our family forever to the point that they have become apart of it. My Auntie Beth is my mothers sister and my blood aunt. She has 5 kids, one of which is the baby in the picture with Katie.)

Today I was cleaning out a drawer and I found a whole stack of postcards from my state. I was going to throw them out but for some reason I didn't. I just saw this post and if she doesn't have any from Alabama, I'd be happy to send one. Even if she does, I'll still be happy to send one.

For all those who are interested in how Katie is doing (for those who have or are sending a card) here is a website my Auntie Beth made to keep everyone informed. Katie's Site (http://katierosehann.com")

If you are still interested in sending her a postcard, please e-mail me for more information (like the address and stuff). Thanks.. Love you all.

I'm waiting for my mother to get back home (she's been traveling for a while on work) to get me a count of cards that she's recieved. She's gotten at least one from the UK, a few from Hawaii and she's not sure what else. Although she does think the one Christian sent arrived so that's a woohoo *g* (I'll find out prolly next week when she gets home... that's if I can't get in touch with my brother to get info from him)

Because procrastination is among my many character flaws, I have only just 10 minutes ago finished writing my postcard. :unhappy:
Even as I type it is in my mailbox waiting to be picked up by the mail woman.
