View Full Version : What does everyone do???
lostinchitown 02-21-2005, 01:59 AM i was wondering...who else is on this website!? out of all of us, there has to be someone who has some kind of important job, aside from being a student or working at Burger King.
So what do you all do???
p.s.-if you're ashamed of your job, then just say that it would be some kind of national security risk if you divulged that information
...and everyone will be like, whoa! ;)
rathrbLOSTwithDOM 02-21-2005, 02:02 AM I work in retail....sort of a management position.

Varda 02-21-2005, 02:18 AM indeed.... have you ever drawn over your whole desk? pencil makes it very silvery.... though i would advise not wiping it with your hand, gets kinda gray...
lostinchitown 02-21-2005, 02:22 AM because of chemistry class, i can say yes to that question. silvery, indeed.
Varda 02-21-2005, 02:24 AM hmmm..... i think im going to go invest in some markers and give my French desk a make-over...

Sherry 03-04-2005, 09:58 AM I am in the Air Force Reserve and am an ART (Air Reserve Technician). Basically I do the same job during the week as a federal civil servant that I do on drill weekends in uniform. I work in Personnel Readiness - I'm the one in my unit who receives the taskings that send people overseas. I prepare the orders and messages that go along with that plus have a few other responsibilities not technically related to Readiness but are mine because I know the job ::). We are an A-10 unit and our reservists just returned from a rotation in Afghanistan. I was extremely busy during that period, and am now catching up on day to day responsibilities.
I love the Air Force Reserve and have clocked in over 14 years now. I've been overseas twice, Spain and Kuwait, and can't wait to go again. I'll probably be one of those people that they have to throw out due to old age. :lol2:
judoktty 03-04-2005, 01:44 PM I have a few different jobs. first and formost I work as a housekeeper in a hospital cleaning the patient rooms. honeyguide 03-04-2005, 03:27 PM I work in the purchase department at our company.
Pretty boring isn't it? But I won't take the risk to walk away and not find another job.
As long as I get along with the colleagues it's fine.

Madge 03-04-2005, 08:57 PM Sigh, I'm a Secretary at the county jail. We were 'thisclose' to getting Scott Peterson. At least going to work would have been interesting for a while. Well, the parking lot on visiting day is always interesting.
<Just kill me now>
angelharp42 03-04-2005, 09:03 PM I am currently working at a physical therapy clinic. It's a small clinic, just me and one therapist. Whatever she doesn't do, I do! I also have a B.S. in sociology, and am gearing up for my Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

This "person" doesn't deserve to be mentioned.
Madge 03-04-2005, 09:09 PM Don't worry, he's not going to be having any fun once he gets to Quentin. They want him bad I'm sure!

fanofangel 03-04-2005, 11:42 PM I work for the county...911, admin duties.
I wish my mom could be a stay at home mom. She's a single, working mom while my dad doesn't (well...he sort of can't...) work. I love her so much. Being a stay at home mom is a lot of work, but nothing compared to all she has to do now.
peanutbutter101 03-04-2005, 11:50 PM I'm an 8th grade student. I wish I wasn't but it's just the truth.

I think you seem much more mature than my younger brother and he is in 9th grade, and I think you seem even more mature then I was in 8th grade...scary lol. Be thankful that you're young, you'll be wishing you were young again once you're old, or something :P
pb101 and I are out to change the common belief that all teens act like they don't even have half a brain.

mac5266 03-05-2005, 12:27 PM I am an Administrative Assistant (Secretary) its an ok job, I have three bosses.
I wish I could be a full time mom to my son but unfortunately the day I found out I was pregnant was the same day my husband found out the company he was working for was going out of business. We went through a lot of our savings but now that my son is almost a year old (birthday March 27) our savings arealmost back in order and hopefully in the next couple of months i will be a stay at home mom and pregnant again. (I will be 39 in may and I do not want to have a baby after I turn 40!)
I hope everything works out, mac :)
mac5266 03-05-2005, 01:04 PM Thanks G! Me Too :)
I have to tell you, its nice to see someone your age love & appreciate there mom. It gives me hope!
My mom and I have a lot in common. I think she's doing a good job with my sister and me. She's the authority figure, definitely, but she understands children and teens so she's more liberal than most parents. I hope I have a successful career of any sort one day so I can take care of her when she's old, starts dying her hair purple, and drawing on her eyebrows. :-* for great moms!
Aurora10 03-05-2005, 03:34 PM I'm a freshmen in college and am planning on going into physical therapy. At my university, they have a 5 year program where you can get your masters...which is AWESOME! So, in about 5 years, if anyone needs therapy, come by and I shall heal you. :lol2:

I get that a lot. I look a lot older than my years also. I always got confused with a girl who is now a freshman in high school because she looked almost like me (tall, frizzy brown hair, glasses). It was kind of funny. I've heard that high school is promising though (I'm going to be going to a semi private school in town for free because I'm a local. There will be kids from all over the country, plus Asia and Japan and some other countries!)
BurningStar4 03-06-2005, 01:19 AM Girls always seem to look older beyond their years, for the most part. That'll be a great experience going to that school, you will meet all sorts of kids with all different backgrounds and cultures....should be promising ;)
bugglebee 03-06-2005, 03:05 AM I'm a support worker and help people with disabilities. It's tough sometimes and I wish for a "normal" job but then I know I'm helping the community in some small way by doing my job. I hope I'm making sense. :-\
BurningStar4 03-06-2005, 04:45 AM Buggle that is a really awesome thing that you do, I applaud you, people with disabilities need help and support :)
bugglebee 03-07-2005, 06:38 AM Thanks BurningStar42 :D
Darn, I got to get studying too. My job requires qual-i-fi-cations. I hate assignments.
PhillyGirl2873 03-07-2005, 01:48 PM I'm an environmental scientist. I work for a consulting firm and I investigate soil and groundwater quality and write reports for the states (PA and NJ mostly). Most of our work is for gas stations and chemical plants.
JohnnyREB1977 03-07-2005, 03:47 PM I'm a part time admin worker for a state-wide family/teen organization in Georgia. There's a collaborative in every county (159) in the State. Would absolutely love to get a full time job with the organization.
I also write for the paper occasionally. And I chair the local child abuse prevention committee. Also tutor GED students, helping them develop their writing skills.

JohnnyREB1977 03-07-2005, 04:06 PM Hey now, don't go ruinin' my rep *lol*. I'm the meanest, orneriest, ugliest redneck east of the Mississippi.
pot_and_bombs 03-07-2005, 04:10 PM I'm a stay-at-home mum who has to be on call for bus-stop pick-up three times daily...which is what allows me to be online so much. I can leave my sites open and programs running all day and post sporadically whenever I happen to pass the computer with, say, a basket of laundry. I look after other kids most days, too.
(I'm also a sculptor but I don't do that and computer stuff simultaneously...that would be messy.)
JohnnyREB1977 03-07-2005, 04:16 PM (I'm also a sculptor but I don't do that and computer stuff simultaneously...that would be messy.)
*LOL* I don't know why, but I found that hilarious!
And WOOO HOOOOOOOOO! The phone rang! It's been far too quiet here today.
You're a sculptor!? That's nifty times fifty!
clairbabydaddy 03-07-2005, 04:42 PM I see dead people :o
I don't see any people.
When I have my eyes closed 'cause then I can't see anything :-\
clairbabydaddy 03-07-2005, 04:44 PM Me neither for work normally. That's a good thing since I rarely shave and like to be in jeans at work!
Mallek 03-07-2005, 05:15 PM I see black people

Ditto....it's a shame I have no idea how to play anything accept a radio
I tutor my sister in geometry now 'cause she's failing. I think that should count as a job. I'm getting paid to do it, so...
Ditto....it's a shame I have no idea how to play anything accept a radio
I know all about you cbd! You wild thing! ;)
I learned how to play a few songs on the drums. I can play Welcome to the Jungle, Rock and Roll, and Balls to the Walls and then enough beats to probably get by on a song. I sold my drum set a long time ago though so who knows what I can remember, it's been 10 years since I played.
My daughter is learning how to play the guitar right now. She's getting pretty good. She's wants to be a punk rocker!
In all seriousness, I can play the spoons.
BurningStar4 03-07-2005, 07:09 PM I will one day be a Rock Star 8)\
I can play elec. guitar, acoustic guitar, piano and sing....we should all start a band :lol2:
Heidi 03-07-2005, 07:09 PM Wow, what an interesting and diverse group of people we have here!
I'm a staff accountant in the R&D section of a multi-million dollar international electronics manufacturing company.
Finally! The day my spoon playing skills come in handy! Let's think of names for our no doubt amazing band...
Mallek 03-07-2005, 08:12 PM One day I will become God Almighty - but I am not sure if I can be bothered I am quite lazy :lol2:

Awe! *Bri, you're making me want to take the child development class at my high school! *I'm really having trouble deciding what class I want to take next year. *I have an entire period once a week to fill up and all of the electives are yucky.
bri_nic23 03-07-2005, 08:32 PM Even if you don't go into childcare, it's always good to take child development classes for when you have kids of your own, you will learn lots more patience that way! But my job is the best!
WhiteSapphire 03-07-2005, 08:34 PM What? You mean no one is jealous of my life in a cubicle, being an Excel jockey?
Hmm . . . somehow that doesn't convey the fact that I actually do really like it. :D
Pretty much all of the girls in my grade are taking it, so I was a bit wary of doing so but now I'm not so sure...I may end up taking it...
bri_nic23 03-07-2005, 09:11 PM It would be benificial to you!
I'm talking to my guidance counselor tomorrow, so I should know by tomorrow afternoon if I'm going to take it or not.
Mallek 03-07-2005, 09:33 PM A conversation I had with my Guidance Counselor (GC)
ME: I want to be an Astronaut and be the first man on Mars
GC:Now Now, remember you are English, Scale it down a bit
ME: OK then I just want to be the first English man on the moon
GC:Now Now, remember you are English, Scale it down a bit
ME: OK then I just want to be the first English man in space
GC:Now Now, remember you are English, Scale it down a bit
ME:OK then I just want to be the first English man up a very tall ladder pointed at the moon
GC: Thats more like it , here's a number you can ring to get you started
the same conversation had my GC been American
ME: I want to be an Astronaut and be the first man on Mars
GC:Go for it , here's a number you can ring to get you started
That was very Eddie Izzard-esque.* Didn't Eddie want to be a janitor in the end, though?
Mallek 03-07-2005, 10:21 PM That was very Eddie Izzard-esque.* Didn't Eddie want to be a janitor in the end, though?
Yes he did - I have all of his tours on DVD
Do you like Eddie Izzard?
I like what stand-up I've seen of him. I nearly died from laughing. He's brilliant.

Yes...Yes he is *swoons* He is one of my Idols
Robinhood56 03-07-2005, 10:47 PM I went to college in England for a semester. The administrators wanted us to tell the English students how lucky they were because their government paid for their college. They conveniently left out the fact that we could choose whatever course and major we wanted and persue any career we chose while their students were told what to take.
I met one girl who wanted to be a nurse but was told there were too many students taking nursing courses so she had to take engineering courses.
It all sounded pretty insane to me.
Mallek 03-07-2005, 11:13 PM I go to University and I get to study pretty much what I want
Robinhood56 03-07-2005, 11:16 PM I go to University and I get to study pretty much what I want

GC: What's that?
Me: Well, it's the study of criminal behavior, you also do some crime scene investigating, create profiles, give psychological exams to criminals as well as government officials and police officers, testify in court on behalf of the state or defendant
GC: Well....Why don't you become a nurse instead, or maybe a teacher?
Me: What?...Screw you dude *walks out*
1 Year Later.....
GC is my Sr English Teacher....We started off on a great foot :lol2: But he did write in my yearbook at the end of the year that I made 1st period interesting and fun so I guess he didn't hate me too bad after I told him to screw off the previous year lol.

BurningStar4 03-07-2005, 11:56 PM Yea I loved how he had no clue about what I was aspiring to be, and then after explaining he thought I should stick to something which had an old traditional stereotype for females.....teachers or nurses lol whatever.
Mallek 03-08-2005, 12:03 AM My headmaster at primary school asked us what we wanted to be when we grow up - and everyone said predictable stuff like fireman, doctor , nurse, policeman , soldier that sort of thing and when he cam eto me I said I wanted to either a Paleantologist or a Historian - and he paused for a minute and then said 'You'll never be clever enough' - I have hated him ever since :'(

That is so awesome! I am trying to teach myself how to do Web Design and I'm not doing a very good job of it. I'm thinking of looking for a night class at the community college or something. Trying to find the time for that is a challenge though. ::)
I still haven't found another course for the second semester. I hope I can because this schedule thing is driving me nuts!

Web design is pretty cool too! i studied that at home with my own webpage a while back---of course it wasn't HTML format.....but I did have to learn that my senior year in HS.....was very confusing, but fun when you got the code right!
I hope you like it! It's your choice of course!
Mallek 03-09-2005, 09:18 AM Does anyone know a good box company - only I need a box to play Forts with Joey

I don't know, but that's got to be a pretty lucrative business. I just bought a bunch of boxes for my move and they were expensive. $75 on boxes!
WhiteSapphire 03-09-2005, 02:05 PM Oh, no JerseyGirl! Next time, just go to the supermarket a few days before and ask them if they'll save you boxes. We used to save them for people all the time when I worked at a supermarket.
CorellianScoundrel 03-09-2005, 02:07 PM Ophelia, nice avatar. (I can just hear her)

 I don't think I'm taking Web Design anymore, bri. I'm going to end up taking Art II. I just know it! I'm terrible at it and dislike it, but we've got a terrible variety of electives.
peanutbutter101 03-09-2005, 05:07 PM Awww...poor theG.
Poor me is right. By the time I've graduated, there will be a Sociology class and Psychology class (both) taught by one of my favorite teachers! This is such crappity crap
peanutbutter101 03-09-2005, 05:23 PM If it makes you feel better, our school is fixing the field hockey and soccer fields and building a FOOTBALL field, but all of it will be there next year after I graduate!! >:(
I'm athletically-challenged, so not really. But thanks for the effort :-\
And Good Goddard! Aren't you in middle school? You shouldn't get all of that stuff. Although, my middle school was ranked the seventh worst school (out of all elementary, middle, and high schools) in the U.S. :o
KaileighBlue 03-09-2005, 05:43 PM I'm a low level genious with aspirations of stardom.
But I am a Craftsman by Trade. I make things, people buy them.
peanutbutter101 03-09-2005, 05:51 PM I'm athletically-challenged, so not really. But thanks for the effort :-\

Holy ****!!!!! I don't know what rank our school is in but it's definitley not that low! Plus, my school has a ridiculous amount of after school activities, I was surprised they didn't think of it sooner!
WhiteSapphire 03-09-2005, 05:52 PM I didn't know organized middle school sports existed until this past year. ::)
We just had town leagues. The schools weren't that organized.
peanutbutter101 03-09-2005, 05:57 PM Well, the way our sportsstuff is set up, the 5th and 6th gradersplay for the town andthe 7th and 8th graders play for the school. There really is no difference other than the uniforms are different (towns is marron and white and the school's is green and white). I actually liked playing for the town but that could've been because the 7th grade basketball coach was really annoying, creepy and not even good at coaching (we didn't win a game that year! :lol2:)
Sometimes, I wish I liked sports.* I don't know anything about how any sports are run...well, anywhere.
chocy bickie 03-09-2005, 06:05 PM I'm the hardest working 'environmentally friendly baby product selling, attachment parenting promoting WAHM' there has ever been. * :)

lol me too, of all 48 of my college credits 9 are required, the rest are electives ranging from Computer Programming, Acting, Accounting, StageCraft, and others. Guess I like too many things.
baner17 03-09-2005, 09:37 PM Sorry, this sounds like a blind post cause, well, it is.......I'll read through the 9 pages sometime, i'm just not ambitious at the moment.
Me, I'm a Canuck, at school at a place called Guelph about an hour and some west of Toronto. Taking biochemistry....so if you need answers to chemistry, physics or calculus questions, particularly those that apply to lost, give me a shout.
Can't think of any points to put down about myself, i no doubt would if I read the thread.........anyways I'll add more about myself when I think of anything
Kiwichick 03-10-2005, 02:39 PM We don't have middle school over here so what age are the children?
Well, just to add my $.02, I work for the U.S. Government - the Social Security Administration to be exact.* Remember Locke's office - the box company in his episode flashback?* WIth the cubicles and annoying middle managers/supervisors?* That's my office, almost exactly.* The Orlando SSA office (where I am) is the largest in the country (employee- and service-area-wise), and we've got dozens of those cubicles designating our workstations.* The film Office Space is near and dear to me because I sympathize with everyone in that kind of office.* Now at the age of 26, I never intended on this being a career - mainly because I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up - but almost four years out of college, and I've got almost 3 years in service here.* I can't complain about the time off and benefits, though, and it pays my mortgage, so I could be worse off.
Just don't ask me about disability or retirement benefits, and we'll be cool...
We don't have middle school over here so what age are the children?
Around ages 11 or 12 through 13 or 14.
My guidance counselor was pretty cool. We talked about how she would want to name her child my name if it's a girl, and that's all I can remember...so...err...yes...
Kiwichick 03-11-2005, 05:10 AM Thanks that is usually called intermediate here
PhillyGirl2873 03-11-2005, 12:43 PM Thanks that is usually called intermediate here
I just called it hell.
bri_nic23 03-11-2005, 02:35 PM Hey G---I love art! I love to paint and get creative with whatever it is that I do. The thing about art is, it is your perspective on it and you don't have to care if anyone else gets it or likes it. It's a creative venture to release yourself! And learning about all the different art periods is awesome! It's really fun to see how it has evolved and gone back to the core so many times! Painting is a great stress reliever, and there is so much you can do with it! You could be another Pollack and do splatter paint, call it art and make millions!
But if you don't find your happiness there, then I know you will soon enough!
sifichick 03-11-2005, 03:20 PM Hey, sifichick, do you like being a nanny? I've always thought it would be something interesting to do. I love babysitting and I love little kids.
Hmm . . . *WS starts to plan next career change*
Being a nanny has it's good days and it's bad days. I've just switched families and I'm hoping this family is going to be easier on me than the last one.
The last family I was with had major emotional problems. The kids were horrible to me. Except the baby. He was the love of my life.
This new family should be better. First off I'm going to be paid more money. Which is always good. I'm also only watching 2 kids instead of 3. The only downside is that both girls have major physical impairments. So it's going to be physically harder but emotionally it should be a cake walk as neither of these kids can talk.
No I am not super nanny. lol That cracked me up.
Thanks, bri* ;D
I signed up for Child Development and Journalism.* I'll go wherever there's room.

Oh I hope this job works out it sucks when you get horrible children I have about 10 of them at work!
sifichick 03-12-2005, 07:01 AM Oh I hope this job works out it sucks when you get horrible children I have about 10 of them at work!
They were so horrible at times. I used to hear on a daily basis how much they hated me. Why you might ask? Well I was doing my job and making the kids accountable for their actions. Something their parents never did. I even had a talking to by the father. He told me to stop putting the kids in timeout. I told him it was the only way to defuse some of the situtations. He finally caved and let me do it after a loooooooooooooooooong debate.
He should have been on his hands and knees thanking me that I didn't beat those little brats like they deserved. I could spend hours telling you some of the things those little monsters did to me and I never laid a hand on them. In my line of work it's hard to find someone who doesn't beat children.
Kiwichick 03-12-2005, 11:12 PM Tell me about it, the parents at the centre can not understand why I have control over their kids it like just tell them you are the adult and they are the child and have a lot to learn and no they can in get away with thigns otherwise they will get a rude awakening when they are older I totally understand your point of view!
Mallek 03-13-2005, 03:48 AM Around ages 11 or 12 through 13 or 14.

Mallek 03-15-2005, 07:41 PM The Welsh are the only people left now who still speak the language that was spoken all over England and Wales before the Saxons came. *the last person in England to speak Welsh died 5 years ago. *Interstingly enough the word Wales comes from the Saxon word Welash wich means foreigner. and Wales in Welsh is Cwryn (pronounced *** - RRRIN)
WhiteSapphire 03-15-2005, 07:42 PM Is this the state-you-ethnicity thread now?
I'm Italian. ;D
BurningStar4 03-15-2005, 07:43 PM We could map out our ethnicity's.....and then see what ethnicity's choose which jobs, it will be like a Psychological experiment or something.
I wish I could speak Welsh, but I can't :(
My friend is Italian.* Her parents were born in Italy.* She's the first generation to be born in America.
I think my ancestors came to America by getting drunk and stumbling onto a boat about to set sail.

Mallek 03-15-2005, 10:18 PM I once actually killed a mocking bird
Why? You're not supposed to because mockingbirds only provide music, protect gardens, and harm no one...
Mallek 03-15-2005, 10:22 PM It was mocking me...Grrrrrrr
It's fun to mock you, even though I find it to be a bit tacky to do so.

Haha, maybe instead of my daily workout I should just do the FDB dance instead :lol2: We could start an E-Aerobics class using his material :P
The Scariest thing of all is that he looks like me when I was 14 - Coz I was realy Fat then and I wear glasses

WhiteSapphire 03-17-2005, 01:34 PM So no rejecting? :( That's good, I guess.
Roni1 03-17-2005, 01:43 PM Luckily I don't get to tell people no on a loan, but if they don't pass chex systems, I get to tell them that they can't open a checking or savings accout. hehe!! Ya, they aren't too happy sometimes. So keep in mind that writing bad checks is bad and will nip you in the butt. hehe!!
Kiwichick 03-17-2005, 03:36 PM I am a banker!!* Ya, enough said!! hehe!!
