Was going to answer this to another thread but got so involved decided to put it in a new thread and see what ppl thought -
Thread I was in was talking about why Danielle made distress signal - I started talking about Solitary and then came up with this-

Exchange between Sayid and Danielle:

DANIELLE ROUSSEAU: We were coming back from the Black Rock. (She turns
around.) It was them. They were the carriers.

SAYID: Who were the carriers?

DANIELLE ROUSSEAU: The others.

SAYID: (not following) What others? What is the Black Rock? Have you seen
other people on this island?

DANIELLE ROUSSEAU: No. But I hear them. Out there in the jungle. They
whisper.

Someone in another thread suggested that when Danielle said the others in this conversation that she was talking about the other people in her group, that they were the carriers. In some ways it does make sense-
I think what makes you think her group bumped into some other group coming back from the Black Rock has to do with her body language (turning around and looking).
BUT what if it happened like this - she's in front walking back from Black Rock with her scientific group, and then they suddenly start acting strangely (It was them) She turns to look back at them and realizes they have a disease, but not all of them. Some just have an outward sign of the disease - for argument lets say it's the whites of the eyes appearing bluish - (they were the carriers)
Whatever the disease is progresses and Danielle kills the rest of her group to prevent the disease spreading off the island.
A thought just occurred to me maybe then her distress signal still running makes sense - she doesn't have the disease - let's assume she's immune - so she could be rescued (doesn't settle who now has control of the signal) When Sayid said to her "I'm not sick" Danielle said "I know" HOW ? Only thing that makes sense is since Sayid wasn't acting like the ppl in her group or like a carrier (bluish whites?) then he had to be immune like her!
Any ideas???

I myself have puzzled over the disease, and am bummed we haven't heard more about it. My theory on the disease, and this is a stretch, goes back to Claire's dream. Remember in her dream, Locke had those crazy red eyes? Could that be a symptom, or prophesy, or something?

Ms D - don't remember Locke having red eyes - thought one was black and the other white.

Just finished watching Numbers and have noticed that Danielle much more easily accepted Hurley than she did Sayid - makes me wonder why. Because she already knew there were other people from the plane or is it something about Hurley. She was also quicker and more lucid in her answers to Hurley. I need to think on this some more.

You're right, one black eye and one white eye. But, you may be onto something with the disease somehow manifesting itself in the eyes. That would click with how each epi opens on someone's eye. You know, I like that idea now that I wrote it.

Anyway, I understand how Danielle could take to Hurley easier than Sayid. Hurley's so likeable, IMO, and she was holding a gun so she was at a bit of an advantage.

I happen to have a small theory regarding the "disease" myself, and why Danielle trusted Hurley immediately. I believe the disease has something to do with people wanting to stay on the island, rather than find a way off. When Hurley went on his rant about finding some answers, she immediately softened and put her weapon down, in my opinion, because he DID want to get off the island, while the others (others in her group, or another seperate group) did not. Not quite sure why or how, but that's my theory

I think the disease must manifest itself most noticably in behavior. It seemed to me that Danielle calmed down a little bit (that is, she stopped torturing) Sayid whenever she rummaged through his belongings and found the photo of Nadia. Perhaps it was seeing that he kept belongings, remembered things from his past,* and valued and loved another person.*

If we can assume that Ethan was one of the "others", we can examine his behavior too. It's not just the fact that he attacked Claire, but his whole demeanor was just.... comment dit on (how does one say) dead/stale/cold?

Well, as far as the other go

from the previews for Exodus Part 1 if would seem we may find out what the others are since Danielle so fit to warn the castaways that the others were back/comming and they had three choices
run, hide or die !none of which are reassuring options!

After writing the above another thought came to me what or who (caring about Hurley and/or Sayid)made Danielle decide to approach and help the castaways? Another darn question!
