I don't know about the rest of you but Ive been a fan of LOST since episode 1. Ive been absolutely captivated since the start but something happened lately.
I watched this episode and realised all I wanted to see was what happened to desmond and penny after last weeks show. Ive completely lost interest in the others, the hatch, the other losties and such. The Des and Penny episode played out so much like a feature film that I cant let it go and the whole 'break up' scene breaks my heart everytime. To me this plotline is the most important to me now. I know it may sound wierd but that story has more appeal to me than any other storyline.
Im a big dude, and my rep has been ruined by that episode making me emotional and watching this weeks episode made me realise I didnt care about the other millions of plot lines and plot holes. LOST has lost it's way, but that one particular storyline has saved it for me. the cinematography was excellent and by far the best episode in all the seasons to date.

I was captivated as well. The "Penny" thread has been very sparse, and we have been waiting for a "reveal". Sonya did a tremendous job with the "don't make this about you... you're a coward" scene. I totally fell for the "penny sympathy". We're led to believe they have a chance, and want to see them together. We don't think Desmond is a schmuck because he disses her (because he has something more important to do-push a button and turn a key). And so we feel sympathy and empathy for both. Perfect breakup...

Although I would like to see Penny and Desmond end up together, I really don't believe that's what is in the cards for them. It is interesting to speculate on Penny's relationship and connection to the Others. I would not be surprised to learn that Penny somehow has very deep connections with the Dharma Initiative through her father.

I agree she may have the links through her father, though i feel she is exploiting them behind his back. Lets face it, her father hated Des and i doubt he would allow Penny to use any of his resourses to find Desmond. What intrigues me is to whether she is funding the "looking for Des" project or using her Fathers links.
I think Penny holds the explaination of what the Widmore Corporation's role is in connection to the DHARMA Initiative (via its connection to the Hanso Foundation).

Ahhh Rob, my friend. You've got the sickness. And there's no cure. Once HIC casts his spell on you, you're done for.
He brings an emotional reality to each of his scenes and plays off Sonya (Penny) with such genuine conviction that the audience is truly allowed to suspend disbelief...it's no longer a television show...it's your friend's tragic love-story.
The Penny-Desmond chapters of LOST have been so well written and directed. One of the best, if not THE best storylines of any current network series.
So, welcome to the sickness. Misery loves company! ;)

I could not agree with you more Rob, this is a very, if no the most intriguing part of the Lost storyline. Desmond is my favorite character and I cannot wait to see how this turns out.
