View Full Version : Marvin Candle Getting Ridiculous?
Melikon 03-07-2007, 11:57 PM Is it just me or are TPTB starting to go overboard with all these Marvin Candle videos?
The first time we saw him it was freaky. The second time (Not including the missing footage Eko had) in the Pearl hatch it was eh. Now in the flame hatch, with him giving you all these numerical options to input...Marvin Candle's becoming tiresome, like that lonely girl with all those stupid YouTube video installments.

It's just you.:)
FishBiscuit 03-08-2007, 12:07 AM Love seeing Marv. Got really fired up when he came on. Good to have freaky Lost back!
JayIsLost 03-08-2007, 12:08 AM ya!! you the man Marv!
Lunch 03-08-2007, 12:14 AM It's not as freaky as the first time, but I don't mind the videos... it makes sense for the Losties to find them every now and again.
Melikon 03-08-2007, 12:14 AM Someone please make a Marvin Candle spliced and diced rap video please.
LostKitty 03-08-2007, 12:16 AM I think that he's an important part of the Dharma Initiative, if not just a spokesman for them. You see him, you think Dharma.
ekoistheman 03-08-2007, 12:22 AM The second time (Not including the missing footage Eko had) in the Pearl hatch it was eh.
technically that wasnt candle in the 2nd video from the pearl that was mark wickmund  and also if it were some random guy every time you'd have people complaining that theres no consistantcy i personally like the videos he's got a good voice for doin what he's doin.
Jynes 03-08-2007, 12:27 AM It's just you, Candle rocks.
Lost.In.Lost 03-08-2007, 12:30 AM
i thought it was hilarious to see Marv hosting "Dharma voice mail jail".....

yeah, but where does it end? how about a dharma video where candle/wickmund/whomever shows you how to prepare a dharma macaroni & cheese dinner?

Yeah, come on, we're only three seasons into the series, and, already, he's be been in three different Dharma Initiative video messages. They're just beating a dead horse with this guy.
ekoistheman 03-08-2007, 12:33 AM I'd venture to say it would be more of a how to make a grilled cheese sandwich then mac and cheese =p but yeah as someone was saying before he's like the public face for dharma employee's/members and he just happened to do all of their orientation/instruction video's. It seems pretty logical to me really.
penyours 03-08-2007, 05:19 AM Marvin also does a few introduction sections in the season 2 DVD's extras. And yes it was interesting in the first video, but now more commonplace. I don't mind right now, and I hold out hope that he'll actually make an appearance on the island.
gigil115 03-08-2007, 05:32 AM The video was important because it tied in with the plot- leading to cause of explosion. IMO not stupid.
Finch 03-08-2007, 06:43 AM actually i agree with you - marvin candle is getting old.
It wouldnt be so bad if the producers stuck with story lines. Anyone remember charlies wierd *** dream? yeah where was that going? anyone? And the two bodies and the black and white stones? anyone?
My guess is we will see more of marvin calndle - just very little with content.
Remus Lupin 03-08-2007, 06:47 AM I think it would be stupid to have a different person to each of those videos. It's always nice and exciting to see a familiar face rather than a new, boring one.
novagator 03-08-2007, 07:17 AM The only time you see his videos is when he is talking to one of the Dharma test subjects.
Remember the hatch, push the button, he did fill in some detail.
The the center hatch with all the tv screens, he told the people in the station to take notes and put it in the vacuum tube to no where.
same thing for the flame, its another test station.
SCgirl 03-08-2007, 07:21 AM I agree that it is not the same affect as seeing him in the first film but I would not say tiresome at all.
lostlocke 03-08-2007, 07:21 AM I know it was much more exciting in the beginning when he first appeared, but to have someone else doing the video, I don't think that would go over well either. I think he is getting much more commonplace as well, I'm kind of bummed that he doesn't freak me out anymore!!! He was always very creepy, now, not so much.
John Burger 03-08-2007, 07:48 AM The first time we saw him it was freaky. The second time (Not including the missing footage Eko had) in the Pearl hatch it was eh. .
The first time I saw him..he changed my life
The 2nd time I saw him..he changed it back:)
South Shore 03-08-2007, 07:51 AM I still move to the edge of my seat when there is a new Marvin Candle presentation. To me, it means new information, and now, to me, it's Dharma relic. I don't find it ridiculous at all.
missioni 03-08-2007, 07:55 AM My whole question about those videos is how in God's green Earth did DHARMA get 640x480 video to run on a 486. Chessmaster would max that thing out to begin with.

I agree. Marvin is the voice of Dharma.
Burnt Sienna 03-08-2007, 08:51 AM Got to admit, the first Candle video was kind of creepy. Now, it's more interesting to find out what he says. Also, have you guys noticed that the video quality has steadily improved? Granted, the first time was an old reel of film. Then again, why have it as a reel of film in the first place? obviously they could've hooked it up to the monitor in the swan hatch as well.
redmaria 03-16-2007, 10:36 AM was he handicapped on that video?missing an arm or not?
EDIT:yes he was.
FingersUK 03-20-2007, 12:12 PM There is so much we still don't know about Marvin. I still find him intriguing, fascinating & a bit creepy.
Is his name Candle or Wickmund? Why the different names? Has he got a prosthetic arm? If so, how did he lose his arm?
Where is he now? What is his function within Dharma?
The_Valenzetti_Equation 04-15-2007, 02:13 AM I disagree, I actually gasp when he comes on screen. All of his videos actually entice me and leave me wondering what is going on. Although I did find the lonelygirl15 reference you made hilarious.

Are they two of em????Creepy indeed!
Jack Sawyer 07-04-2007, 10:54 AM Sorry to necro this thread but...does anyone think its odd that you have to win a chess game in manual override in order to "Enter 77"? Im not one to shoot down the show, but I figured I'd post this so someone could reassure me that its totally reasonable. ;) Whatcha got?
