View Full Version : Cat is Vanilla Sky Reference
macainickle 03-08-2007, 12:07 AM I think that the cat that Sayid kept seeing in the episode is a nod to Vanilla Sky.
The cat is named Nadia. Sayid's Nadia put on the back of that photograph 'You'll find me in the next life ,if not in this one.'
In Vanilla Sky there is the line ' I'll see you in another life, when we're both cats.'
I think that was the purpose of the cat.It was named Nadia so we would remember Nadia's line and connect it to the line from Vanilla Sky.

Saukkomies 03-08-2007, 12:11 AM Yeah, cool theory!
I think that Nadia (the cat in Paris, not the one in the Flame) is a Maine Coon. Either that or a Persian.
ame en peine 03-08-2007, 12:30 AM Yup, I caught that too... It seems that Nadia reincarnated as the cat... Too bad it looks like the one from Pet Semetary now.. :eek2:
lostfan4ever 03-08-2007, 12:31 AM But Nadia is still alive. Remember Locke's flashback. So the cat was not a reincarnation.
cashoutcurse 03-08-2007, 09:19 AM Nice catch! I caught this too.
diabolo237 03-08-2007, 09:32 AM See now I was thinking the cat for Sayid was the equivalent of the horse to Kate, Jack's dad to him, etc etc. I thought the cat looked like a less furry version of the one the woman he tortured had. But I did catch the Vanilla Sky/Cat thing....
lostlocke 03-08-2007, 10:12 AM Yup, I caught that too... It seems that Nadia reincarnated as the cat... Too bad it looks like the one from Pet Semetary now.. :eek2:
When at the end of the episode they showed the cat and then Sayid and then the cat and Sayid again!! I thought the same thing, I said to my sister what is that church? Which is the cat's name from Pet Semetary (in case anyone doesn't know)
That's cool about the reference from Vanilla Sky, I saw that movie, but didn't remember the quote. I know that Lost does take alot from pop culture, but i don't necessarily think this is one of those times though.

I remember that quote. Interesting theory. I don't think Sayid's Nadia is dead though...unless that was their way of telling us that she is...
ame en peine 03-08-2007, 05:50 PM But Nadia is still alive. Remember Locke's flashback. So the cat was not a reincarnation. At least last we saw Nadia she was alive... Could something have happened to her since then though?

lostcompletely 03-08-2007, 07:50 PM I don't remember seeing Nadia in Lockes' FB - could someone kindly give me a quick note about it

Sure - in Lockdown, Locke was a home inspector and inspected the home that Nadia had just bought.
The Nadia business reminds me of another line from another movie - "Birthday Girl." I didn't see the movie but I remember the trailer of Nicole Kidman saying "My name is Nadia" and a few seconds later, "My name is not Nadia."
When Sayid was tied on the floor in his flashback when Amira was talking to him, he said "My name is not Najiv". Since he'd been searching for Nadia, I thought of that snippet.
piscescat 03-08-2007, 09:34 PM I've seen both versions of the movie but forgot about that line - good catch indeed! I don't think Nadia is dead, at least I hope she isn't. The cat at the Flame was a bit spooky after the explosion. It seems more like coincidence (heh) that it reminded Sayid of the cat in Paris rather than it being a Smokey vision, especially since it was Patchy's pet.
gusthepolarbear 03-08-2007, 09:45 PM first thing i though of was nadia reincarnated, second thing i thought of was the prominence of cats in children of men, and third was that it reminded me of the cat from pinocchio, figarro is it
