Okay, everyone is saying that the purple light (i.e. EMP pulse) knocked out the communications. EMP pulses take out everything that is electronic, why are the computers still working?

There is not much electronics in a satellite dish, how could the implosion take out just the dish and the underwater sonar beacon and not do a thing to the chess computer, the other computers nor the power system on the island.

Also, why would Dharma go through the trouble of creating videos of saying the communications are down and the sonar is out?

This is another research station to test the mind just like hatch under the plane where they filled the logs out and sent them to a field.

My conconclusion, those communication systems never worked and was just another test for the dharma lab rats in the flame.

Or else the Lost writer really screwed up their the physics and engineering.

I agree - it seemed that these little videos were already there -I think it is another kind of experiment - there was a camera right there (attached to the other hatches as we have seen) and those videos made you think that all communications are broken.

I think the true communication stattion is either in the barracks area or someplace else.

All the equipment on the Hydra still worked too...

I can guarantee that Danielle's repeating loop broadcast is still going on. Didn't she say that she never saw the Flame or had never been there? There must be a radio broadcast antenna at a different location.

wasnt the flame a power source though, so anything getting power from the now blown up station would not be functioning any more. like the radio tower, so I wonder if thats still broadcasting. If it is, there is another power source.

It would be possible for the computer to be still working.
What if the EMF blast just acted like a power surge and had blown a few components? Mikhail had a lot of spares lying about, and he would be perfectly capable of fixing it.
