View Full Version : Am I the only "old fogey" ??? pikameta 11-19-2004, 12:31 AM I just ask this cause i'm married and have two kids and most of you seem to be young(er) ... any other old farts ?? meta emaleythe 11-19-2004, 12:39 AM depends on what you mean by older?* I don't consider myself to be a young pup, but perhaps others would... lol...just checked your info...I'm even older than you :D diablita 11-19-2004, 12:45 AM as I remember... the oldest on this board is about 70... there are some 60's... 50's... 40's and it works its way on down from there and the mode seems to be somewhere in the mid to late 20s... hope that helps with the age question... Willowy 11-19-2004, 12:48 AM Don't worry Pika, there are plenty of us mature fans around. We're the ones that don't tend to post unless we have something of value to contribute, so we are scarce sometimes! We are here though! :D pikameta 11-19-2004, 01:15 AM That's it Willowy- mature... I mean I know I'm semi-young age wise... :lol2: for the record (and for those who are too lazy to go look up member info :) ) I am 25 (but I feel 60!) Raven 11-19-2004, 01:51 AM my goodness... 25 and an 'old fart'. Double that and add a few..... Andrea 11-19-2004, 02:04 AM I'm a 30 year old mom too. =) This board and the Lost fandom in general seems to skew to the over 25 crowd. BurningStar4 11-19-2004, 04:47 AM You guys are still so young! But I know how you feel... I'm 19 and am dreading 20, sad huh? :-\ Mygirl 11-19-2004, 05:43 AM I guess you could call me an old fogey. I'm 67 years young! I may HAVE to get older, but I ain't gonna grow up! So there! :lol2: ThinGnatVoices 11-19-2004, 07:11 AM My sentiments exactly, Mygirl!* ;D From someone for whom the age of 25 happened in the 80s. Speaker 11-19-2004, 07:18 AM 24 and married hear. No kids though. Karrin Murphy 11-19-2004, 07:23 AM Guess you found out that ages run the gamut around here huh ? :lol2: LOST is the kind of show that appeals to people of imagination regardless of age. A few years ago you might have only seen the very young on a board like this but these days only the very technophobic steer clear of the internet.... Arista 11-19-2004, 07:37 AM Don't worry Pika, there are plenty of us mature fans around. We're the ones that don't tend to post unless we have something of value to contribute, so we are scarce sometimes! We are here though! :D Or we're just shy and 'skeered' to post.* *;) You guys are still so young! But I know how you feel... I'm 19 and am dreading 20, sad huh? :- 19 and dreading 20!?* I had the most fun in my early 20s.* Like Mygirl said, we all have to get older but we don't have to grow up. For the record, I'm 28.* I'll turn 29 in February. tapt 11-19-2004, 11:32 AM Wow, old at 25 lol. I still think of myself as "young as I was when I was 25" :) Tho I am only 30. Married, and planning on having kids next year so I hope I'm not TOO old yet :) Raven 11-19-2004, 02:27 PM LOST is the kind of show that appeals to people of imagination regardless of age. I like this show very much, but I especially like that my 18 year old son and I can both watch and talk about it in intelligent ways. I value those opportunities a lot. This was also the case with Buffy. It was almost a family night to watch it (and now Lost) together. Mara 11-19-2004, 02:36 PM I'm 25. It's a good age, but I tend to like each year better (I was never much for "youth.") Looking forward to the future... Karrie 11-19-2004, 03:50 PM I'm 26. As for maturity... somedays, I feel like I'm 90 and other days, it's more like 15. Sherry 11-19-2004, 04:05 PM 33 here...with 2 kids...sometimes I feel twice my age...other times I act half my age :lol2: BurningStar4 11-21-2004, 06:31 AM 19 and dreading 20!?* I had the most fun in my early 20s.* Like Mygirl said, we all have to get older but we don't have to grow up. I'm 32, 2 kids (ages 6 and 4), married 10 years! I feel old sometimes too, but I'm actually in the best physical shape I've EVER been in. I look a lot younger than I am, too. I got it from my mom as well. tapt 11-22-2004, 03:05 PM I look and sound (and act) young too. I still get carded and when ppl call the house they ask if someone older than 18 is home lmbo. It cracks me up and I ask if 30 will do. I don't mind, except that sometimes at work it's hard for ppl to take me seriously. kena 11-22-2004, 03:13 PM Early thiries right now, with one little girl. Turning a year older on Thanksgiving, though. I can never remember my age, which my wife says is just ridiculous. But I can't. I always have to do the subtraction, and half the time I get it wrong anyway--I miss by a year or two. My thinking is that age doesn't matter--you feel how you feel; it is just how you are. That's why people in their teens feel like they are 40 and people in there 60s feel like teenagers. Age doesn't determine how you feel--it's just you. But then, it is a little early in the day for philosophical thoughts on the nature of time--back to work. ;) Karrie 11-22-2004, 04:53 PM I look and sound (and act) young too. I still get carded and when ppl call the house they ask if someone older than 18 is home lmbo. It cracks me up and I ask if 30 will do. I don't mind, except that sometimes at work it's hard for ppl to take me seriously. I get carded at the movies. I can't even go see a horror movie without getting my ID out :-\ pikameta 11-23-2004, 12:47 AM I look and sound (and act) young too.* I still get carded and when ppl call the house they ask if someone older than 18 is home lmbo.* It cracks me up and I ask if 30 will do.* I don't mind, except that sometimes at work it's hard for ppl to take me seriously. Ophelia 11-24-2004, 02:09 PM I'm 19 and hope to never get older...things seem to only get crappier as you age. *insert pathetic sigh here* Toonces 11-24-2004, 04:59 PM 31 with two children. I used to feel young, till my 2.5 y/o started to drain the life out of me. ;) 11-24-2004, 05:19 PM Delete. Toonces 11-24-2004, 05:22 PM As a matter of fact, I am/did. I have an 11 week old now too. I agree, the more times pregnant and nursing seem to take a toll on the mind (however both are TOTALLY worth it). ;D Raven 11-24-2004, 07:06 PM I'm 19 and hope to never get older...things seem to only get crappier as you age. *insert pathetic sigh here* nah... I wouldn't go back if I could. I like being an old far... uh, fogey. 8) But enjoy 19. and 20... and 21... they're all good. Prncssleia 11-24-2004, 07:37 PM I'm 26, with three kids: Ian is 4 (today's his birthday), Jake is 2, and Michael is 2 months, + 1 husband who is basically a child anyway. I didn't nurse, and my children suck my brain cells out anyway, probably with some kind of psychokinesis. Sometimes I can't remember if I ate or not! Stephanie Julia 11-24-2004, 08:03 PM Pikameta, Old at 25??? Shut your mouth, girl!* :D I'm 32, and I'm in the same situation as mommamia - "I'm actually in the best physical shape I've EVER been in". I started training in martial arts about ten years ago, and I love what it's done for my body. Jules crsty1961 11-24-2004, 08:32 PM WHOOWHOO After being around some of the younger fan sites, it sure is nice to find more people closer to my age. Married 8 years. No kidlets.. :) Hiram 12-05-2004, 10:56 PM Julia, what kind of Martial Arts do you study? I train in Seibukan Okinawan Karate.* You are right, it has gotten me in the best mental and physical shape of my, albeit short life! * Willowy 12-06-2004, 12:15 AM Hiram, what are you doing? Why are you wasting bandwidth to make your posts so huge? Quit it. Amy 12-06-2004, 12:30 AM Hey, I fit into this group - 36 years old, married 9 years, one kiddo! ;D pikameta 12-06-2004, 06:18 PM Smidgey- you make me laugh!! :) Meta Hiram 12-07-2004, 12:04 AM I'm sorry Willowy!* I don't know much about such things.* Please forgive me! I was just trying to get Julia's attention.* I promise it shall never happen again, as long as I can remember not to do it! Here's a stumper of a question, if I go back and modify it to be smaller will that waste even more bandwidth? Yours always, technically challenged, Glenn, . . . I mean Hiram, yeah that's it! * :santa:* * P.S. Do Santas waste bandwidth too? Hiram 12-07-2004, 12:09 AM * Oh Julia are you out there somewhere? * I was asking about your Martial Arts training! * I guess you can see the above post better! * :santa: Hiram 12-07-2004, 12:19 AM OK, back on topic: * If one year to a human is five years to Vincent, * how old are you in canine years? * Didn't you just love word problems in school? * :santa: halfrek 12-07-2004, 12:59 AM [size=8pt]OK, back on topic: If one year to a human is five years to Vincent, how old are you in canine years? or you could figure it in James Marster's years. back in the "old" days there was a great deal of confusion over his REAL age. some fans on another board decided to figure out just how some other fans got the age that he was supposed to be. math alert: you figure your age in years but you only count 3/4 of the year. so if you were 40 your James' age would be 30. :P add that to the Vincent age thing. ;D what? i blame the late hour and lack of sleep. ;) MARCEE 12-07-2004, 01:18 PM 27, married. No kiddies... But I do have a sweet little honey of a puppy. I do like when there's a mixture... although, no offense to some of the older fogeys crowd, but I find that the reason there are usually fewer of you is because many of you are not of the 'computer generation'. Thankfully, my dad is computer savvy - but he's not into TV-land like I am. My mom, on the other hand, loves to talk about Lost, but she's terrified of the computer. *shrug* Point is, good to have everyone here. -- Me makemelaugh 12-07-2004, 03:05 PM I'm 40, and am almost certain that I was the oldest person on another message board (for a show that is now off the air). For that reason, I now think of myself as "old". I agree that a nice mix makes things more interesting. RE: word problems They confused me when I was young, so just imagine how they now make my eyes roll uncontrollably in circles. pikameta 12-23-2004, 10:49 PM I think that's why i consider my self "old" in most fandoms I'm the old fogey- so I stupidly assumed that the true would be the same for Lost... good thing I was proved wrong and that we ahve a vast spread of ages and interests. and yet one thing ties us together... Lost. *sigh* Meta is content now Hiram 12-24-2004, 01:51 AM Full on pika! I've been surprized at the data coming off my age group poll. A large percentage of the posting fuseleers are over 30. I guess I expected more of a younger crowd and stuff. Carencey 12-25-2004, 12:15 AM I'm 27, but I post younger. :lol2: Jorok 12-26-2004, 09:25 AM Great thread here pikameta!! I'm 36, married 15years, 1 boy, 1 girl, 1 dog, 1 cat, 11 fish, trying to talk the wife into upping the dog ante to 2 but it's not looking good :( I sure don't feel 36 .. I'm a big kid at heart .. I use the children all the time as excuses to buy tech toys .. game consoles out the wazoo, installed a network at home just to play pc games with the kids, hit the amusement parks for the kids .. etc etc my most used quote is .. "no no honey .. it's FOR THE KIDS" and of course she just rolls her eyes. I can feel my age only when I'm playing the kids in mutliplayer on some game .. was a time when I could beat them easily .. now it's .. "aww come on .. give ya pops a break!!" :D Trueogre 12-26-2004, 12:22 PM My sister is exactly the same. She bought Singstar for her son and she said she was a 'Singstar'. The reason I know she really bought it for herself? Because when she came to visit me, she wouldn't let her son play on the game and I had to battle her on all the songs. EVERY BLOOMIN single one! ::) ;D Mygirl 12-26-2004, 10:55 PM And my youngest is soon to be 41!* Now that's getting old.* I keep telling them they are adopted, because I'm too young to have children that old!* (don't I wish)* Go my Red Sox! I've waited all my life to see them win the world series! :lol2: rabgal 12-27-2004, 03:01 AM Add me to the 30-somethings. I'm a 35 year old single mom with a 10 year old boy (who is also a Lost Addict) and an 8 year old girl. I'm into my 13th year as a federal government slave for my beloved country but confess to sneaking out a few minutes early on Wednesdays so that I can catch the early satellite feed at 5pm my time :P .... girls gotta have priorities!! AyEyE 12-28-2004, 09:13 PM It actually makes sense, Boomers created the web and X'ers made it big. We should have a good presence here! For the record I'm 33, so is my wife, and our kids are 6, 5, and 1 1/2. We all watch Lost together, so that's a pretty good spread! bugglebee 12-29-2004, 05:17 AM I'm 32 and enjoying single life at the moment. This is so cool to have people of all ages here. elfdream 12-29-2004, 06:14 PM I'm married with kids the age of most of you here. One son in the Air Force and a daughter in college. I also have a 13 year old here at home. I got THEM into Lord of the Rings. I'm now trying to get them into 'LOST'. I've never been a techno phobe and love the internet. We got on the compuer bandwagon early on. Anyone remember the Commodore 64? I'm glad to see that 'LOST' appeals to all ages. Heidi 12-29-2004, 06:25 PM I'm 43, married 18-1/2 years, 2 boys ages 15 & 11, 2 16 year-old cats, and 1 four year-old dog. Templeton 12-29-2004, 11:23 PM I'm old enough to have a 25 year old daughter who unexpectedly came home from many miles away for Christmas. She usually doesn't enjoy the same TV shows I like, but she watched all 11 Lost episodes with me and got thoroughly hooked. Unfortunately, she won't be able to see the rest of the season since she lives outside the country. I promised to tape... Templeton Fogey 12-30-2004, 05:43 PM Hmm I hit 30 oh lets see about 29 years & 11 months ago: Looks like I fit right in here :P diablita 12-30-2004, 05:46 PM you're the only Old Fogey I know... LMAO... hiya Fogey... *hugs* & :-* Hi Dia! ;D withay 12-30-2004, 09:12 PM 48 and it's still a shock when I catch a glimpse in the mirror without preparation. The other day I was looking at "Classmates" (for you babies, it's a site to catch up with your former classmates) and saw a former classmate's age listed. My first thought was, " I didn't know he was so much older than me." My second thought was, "Nevermind, I'm that old, too"! Time really passes fast...... I enjoyed my 30's most. Couldn't pay me enough to do my teens again. Twenties were better but life began at 30. Unfortunately, my early 40's were used trying to get a diagnosis for a rare illness and since then I've been learning to live a different sort of life than I expected. It's all good though. I've been blessed in many ways. ;D pikameta 01-07-2005, 06:31 AM Hugs to all my fellow fogeys!!!! jme 01-07-2005, 09:38 AM Here's another old fogey ... I'm almost 38.
