View Full Version : Another Lostie has caused a death

Although we don't know for sure if Claire's mom was ever taken off life support before the plane crash (I personally think she is still on it), we can add Claire to the list of Losties who have murdered or caused someone's death.

And if Locke's role in Boone's death was questionable to some, he is now a clear-cut murderer as well.

Who is left that hasn't taken a life? The only one I can think of right now is Jin. Also Desmond, though he's not technically of their original group, and some of the survivors who are now dead themselves (Libby, Boone, Shannon).

How did Claire cause her mother's death? Her mother didn't die; also, I believe her - she was driving and the other driver smashed into them.

Um--Desmond accidentally killed Kelvin, jennylee.

I do wonder, though--now that Christian is dead, there's no one to pay mom's medical expenses. So do they just let her die, now? In that case, it's looking like Christian might've had a point. . . .

 Kelvin. Thanks STH.

Betsy, you don't like anything I have to say tonight! Come on, you have to give me a break. I think it was questionable about who caused the accident, since the cop clearly thought it was Claire's fault.

Also, Claire herself felt she was responsible for causing it. The weight of that could be said to be equal to what others feel for causing deaths.

I believed Claire when she said that the other driver was the one who crashed into them. I think the guy was just judging her based on her appearance and age. Believe me, I have a lot of "goth" friends and they're all really nice, awesome people, but they're really discriminated against.

I definitely think the accident was Claire's fault. The cop seemed to think it was. Claire was probably speeding. She was fighting with her mom and was getting really mad and saying terrible things, so she probably wasn't paying attention to the road well enough.
And she basically says the accident was her fault to her mom.
She basically caused her mother's death, or lack of any good life, that's for sure.

Do Rose and Bernard count?

I don't think episode works if Claire's WASN'T in part responsible for her mother's injuries. It's a central them of the show. Everyone has a hideous skeleton in their closet that demands redemption (or recompense).

Claire may have been responsible for the car crashing, but she wasn't responsible for the fact that her mom wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Talk about overreacting  I thought I could post on a board without being attacked for having another opinion. It appears that I was wrong. Moving on to other, less inflamatory threads.

Do Rose and Bernard count?
Yeah, that's true. It would be devastating to know Bernard killed someone in a freak dental accident. But the percentage of the Losties that have been involved in deaths is a bit higher than the normal average, which is what is meaningful to me.

I agree. Nothing is more hideous than causing death.

I agree. Nothing is more hideous than causing death.

Except perhaps causing someone to continue to exist indefinitely in a persistent vegetative state.

Can someone refresh my memory about Jin and Jae's death? Was it confirmed that Jae committed suicide or was it implied that Jin might have caused his death? I think I recall something the TPTB said about that scene being obvious to them but I remember being confused when I first saw it.

Thanks!!!

Um… I think it would be a good idea for us to just clarify for the audience that Jae did commit suicide. I mean, there’s been a lot… that was one of those unintentional mysteries that we did not want to…
