Locke and Ben's conversations were great. Especially Ben inquiry concerning Locke's fear of losing his "power" or ability to walk. As usual, Ben is planting seeds, seeds of doubt in Lockes case, again, (remember the button). Now another grand test, revenge on the father, or forgiveness. Freedom of choice, is this the entire psychological experiment here. Locke will realize, that revenge on Cooper, may garner revenge from the island. He will not choose against the island, but I doubt he will forgive Cooper either, doesn't get a chance to, Sawyer kills him first.

Much as I love this idea, is there any evidence to suggest the Cooper is the real Sawyer? I have seen this a few times, and I feel like I must have missed something huge.

i also feel that cooper is sawyer and it will really put the story to a challenge. I also concur that Cooper is a test. If Locke goes against his good nature and seeks revenge, he will find himself back in a wheel chair or perhaps worse. Sawyer, though the avenging type, might also find some compassion. He had a taste of and it did not suit him well. Still, if this is the real "Sawyer" it would really shake up the plot and bring some interesting episodes. I believe the good in John Locke will prevail. I "like" to believe that it might in James Ford as well, which would likely really bewilder Ben. I think Cooper being on the island is a test for more than one of our Losties. And if our Losties pass the test, then it will be Ben who fails...

Oh yeah, I like the dual purpose test, perhaps more. Sawyer, Locke, now Jack want's revenge on Locke, lots of material here.

Most of the evidence is circumstantial: Anthony Cooper is approximately the correct age, he was a con-man, now we know Cooper is from Tallahassee (James Ford is also from Florida... at least that's where he did time).

I, for one, predicted Locke's dad would be the real Sawyer in the first season, so I really hope he is. It also brings about another connection between our Losties!

Thanks for the info He11FiRe;) .

That would be so wild if it turns out to be true.

Cooper will definitely be a test for Locke. I think that entire reason that Ben showed Cooper to Locke was to see what would happen to Locke's legs of Locke took revebge out Cooper. Locke clearly is in the island's favor. Ben is not ("I am in a wheelchair and you are not"). Perhaps if Ben sees Locke act out against Cooper and then lose his ability to walk again, Ben will have confirmation that the reason he got sick is because he did something to mess up his standing with the island.

Locke is too smart for that.

If what people think is correct and Cooper is the real Sawyer, imagine the possibilities then. If the island exacts a price from those who step out of line, AND our Sawyer takes revenge on Cooper, WHAT price will Sawyer have to pay? What is it that he would lose?

Ben " I was born on this island." Let's stretch that out to I am Smokie, I am alone and playing a game with real people, in real situations and its so cool.

Locke also asked Sawyer why he adopted the name "Sawyer" back in "The Hunting Party", referring to his knowledge about Sawyer's real name being "James Ford" (from the flight manifest Hurley was checking his census against in "Raised by Another"). He noted that "it was an odd name to choose" or something to that extent.

Good title for this thread. Grace can be lost through an individual's own actions, and this thread is woven through Locke's story.

Yeah, he did! I had forgotten about that until you said something, but I remember when I saw it (after forming my Cooper = Sawyer theory) that Locke did have kind of a crazy look on his face when he asked that question!

Thanks for paying attention for me! :)
