Not unless Vincent comes to the rescue.

Not unless Vincent comes to the rescue.
Because he knew they were dead.

My mom thought that for high tide that you will see that they died in different postions then how they were buried.

I certainly hope not.. and if she miraculously does attempt to climb out.. I hope a nice swift hurricane force wind knocks her back down lodging those diamonds in her eyeballs and in her throat...
All this episode did was make me really dislike the both of them - and the best part was that the sand hopefully will choke them.. (I guess I didn't like them)

Yeah I think the sand will fill up in their mouths and choke them. If that doesn't do it then the sand that fills up their noses and stops their breathing will.

than again like lost laura (I think) said in another thread....we didnt expect anyone to survive a 7 story fall either...or a plane crash....

what is the purpose of having us know they were buried alive...there has to be more to this story

I think that Vincent knew they weren't dead. That's why he took the tarp (or whatever was covering them), and ran off with it. Vincent's a smart doggy.

three thoughts

1. Vincent uncovered them because they weren't dead - he may try and did them up
2. John's line is important - either one of them or the diamonds are coming back
3. I don't think Nikki solved her problems - everyone else died once they were "fixed" Paulo was but she wasn't she may live long enough to have regret and then die!

I really don't think this is the end of Nikki or Paulo. There has to be a reason we found out that they saw the other plane...and didn't tell anyone, that they found the Pearl...and didn't tell anyone, that Palo went into the Pearl, saw Ben and Juliet, and found the walkie talkie...and didn't tell anyone. I think there will be more to their story.

Either Vincent will clue them in or perhaps somebody will discover the spiders and recognize what happened. But I think we will be seeing more of them!

I hope he was being ironic, cause damn, I want them dead.

Yeah, Vincent definitely knew. He could smell their liveliness.

Part of me hopes you are right, because at least that would mean that their entire existence on this show wouldn't have been meaningless.
Unfortunately, I do think they were meaningless and that this is the end of the road for them. Maybe they weren't going to be meaningless, and were going to be the moles, but when Darlton realized how much we all hated them, they changed their plans so they could ditch the actors. *shrug*

They have to be dead. If they didn't already suffocate (wich they would) they would be crushed to death.

The grave was roughly 4' deep 6' long and 5' wide. Thats 120 cubic feet or roughly 4 cubic yards. Sand weights about 2600lbs per cubic yard. That's some where around 11,000lbs sitting on their chest, and that is just counting the sand filling the whole flush to the surface, it doesn't count the sand they had mounded up on top.

Sorry to ramble but I hate Paulo and Nikki and am very glad they are dead. I don't wont to see them back.

That sand would weigh so much that it would be impossible for anything to push itself up.

Oh, please, say it isn't so.

If TPTB make all these references and shout outs to what we discuss, Please Hear This-DON'T BRING THEM BACK. I'M GLAD THEY'RE DEAD. LET'S KEEP IT THAT WAY!

Can Nikki survive? NO... Did you see that pile of sand on top of them. Sand is heavier than dirt. Fresh dirt bural is loose unlessed tamped down. Sand is dense and it moves. Even if she could reach up the mound on top of them would be to high. So Nikki and Paulo are dead with 8 million in diamonds.

I hate filler episodes. Although it was a good EP it was something trumped up to fill in the gaps this season has. TPTB give us a few good EP's and some junk to fill in the time slot.

I am not comdeming this Nikki and Paulo story line it had some interesting moments. The fact is Lost got caught up in its own production problems and then after Disney turned up the heat the Lost producers had to come up with enough to finish out the season.

If they do a "24" like is proposed for the fourth season then Lost should be able to get back on track. Waiting until o1-?-08 is a long stretch to hold onto an audience. Perhaps they need to skip summer vacation and take a vacation after shooting next season EP's.

Sorry guys... hate to disappoint everyone's idea that TPTB had some other thing in mind for these guys and then decided to kill them off because of your feedback.

Proof:
"Further Instructions" airdate: Oct 18 = first appearance of Nikki & Paolo.

Oct 18-Oct 25: Fans complain about Nikki & Paolo.

"Everyman For Himself" airdate: Oct 25 = No appearance of Nikki or Paolo.

Oct 25-Nov 1: Not so much complaining about Nikki & Paolo since they weren't on this week.

"The Cost of Living" airdate: Nov 1 = A significant flashback from "Expose" is from this episode -- and I can pretty much guarantee you that they were filmed at the same time. TV/Film production does this kind of stuff all the time. They would have shot it all at once since they had the actors and were on the set already. In the ep, Nikki & Paolo 'for some reason' join the main characters to go to the Pearl Station. Paolo seems annoyed or disinterested in going when Nikki volunteers. Why? Well, we learn in Expose' it's because that is where the diamonds are hidden in the toilet. Once at Pearl Station, Paolo goes to the bathroom... which was weird... until Expose when we find out why he was in there. When Paolo comes out of the bathroom he cracks the 'joke' "Toilet still works." (At the time, someone on this board said of that line and that scene: "toilet still works...I love those random scenes that have nothing to do with Lost story lines". Ha. Hindsight, right?)

So, my point is that the characters had only been in one episode. Fans complained. There were two weeks in between that first ep. and The Cost of Living -- which had to have been pretty much "in the can" by the time "Further Instructions" had aired. They could not have gone back and done the additional writing, shooting and editing that would have been needed to work in the new 'diamonds to death' storyline in a single week. So, they had to of had the Expose' storyline in mind from Nikki & Paolo's 1st appearance.

Now... why the hell they would hire the "Tom Cruise of Brazil" and this hooters chick and drop them on the island in the middle of the series, integrate them and this diamond theft story line into the background of all these episodes, building up to a single episode 'payoff' in which both characters die without seeming to have any significant impact to anything or anyone else on the show or moving the general (or even the minor) plot(s) of the show forward at all???? Ya got me.

What if Nikki was already dead before her eyes poped open? Perhaps she came back from the dead! Maybe the island didn't want her dead.

the "Tom Cruise of Brazil" and this hooters chick

HILARIOUS!!!!
:rotflmao2:

Just a thought ......

When Shannon died, I thought to myself, what was the point in my getting invested in her story (and the whole hooking up with Boone background thing) if they killed her off so soon. I had mentioned on this board somewhere before they killed her, when people were trying to figure out who was getting shot from the preview, it seemed to make the Boone/Shannon story meaningless.
I am rambling....
I hope they rest in peace & dont come back. Nikki seemed kind of evil.

If they had a bigger point to these characters I don't care!'
If Nicky crawls out of that grave
I want one of "The Others" to come to the beach, Choke her and put her back in!!!

She doesn't need to die. She can come back next season. To paraphrase Howard L. Zuckerman.

I posted this in a similar thread but here it goes again.

I just don't see how anyone thinks they can crawl out of that grave. I know this is LOST and we have people surviving plane crashes, 8 story falls, Locke was paralized and now he can walk ect. ect. but let me explain

1. From the amount of time that thier mouth/nose were under sand until the time the grave was fully covered, people have speculated that it was 5-8 minutes. This is if they worked steadly and not stopped and to take a breather or talked. I know I can't hold my breath for 5-8 minutes. Does the venom ware off immediately? or do they slowly get their movement back? If they slowly get movement back this is extra time under all that sand.

2. If they some how are olympic breath holders, and the paralazation wares of immediately, the shear weight of the sand would have crushed them. Sand weights about 2600 lbs per cubic yard. I estimate that grave was about 4 cubic yards and that is just flush to the ground not counting the sand piled and mounded on top.

3. If some how they withstood the pressure of the sand, and where alive underneath, They wouldn't be strong enough to move a finger, much less an arm to dig themselves out. That sand is heavy, I know the island is magical but I don't see anyone with superman strength walking around.

If Pikki comes out of that grave alive, this opens the door for anyone who has died to come back. Because I assure you they would be just as dead under that sand as Libby, AnnaL, Boone and Shannon.

Actually they opened that door already with the Desmond time travel farce. Nothing that happens can be seen as "for certain" since that episode.

Now if time travel was not in the mix, I would say they are both dead and could return only in flashbacks.

Nikki was already dead.

She was Undead!

She's a vamp-ire! (get it?)

Unfortunately Sawyer didn't drive a stake through her heart when he had the chance...
