http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=75 She was the patron Saint of Blindness. The only connection I could find is her Feast day is Dec 13th. Didn't Niki say Thanksgiving was 2 weeks ago. That would make it right around that time. Intresting read.

HUM - what could blindness have to do with Kate?
What about the fact that they use the video to punish or brainwash ---
and Kate could be an other

Kate is blind to how people around her truly feel.
When she killed Wayne, she did so because that's what she would have wanted somebody to do for her if she were being beaten by a drunk. No regard to how her mother might feel.
She went after Jack because she would have wanted to be rescued in a dramatic fashion. She didn't stop to think that maybe Jack didn't want to be rescued. Even when Sayid came out and said it, she couldn't see it.

St. Lucy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Lucy)
Lucy means "light", with the same Latin root, lux, as "lucid," which means "clear, radiant, understandable." "In 'Lucy' is said, the way of light"...
Perhaps referencing light vs dark, good vs evil ?
Maybe the light from the flashes that clicked on Juliet and Kate delivered a protection measure to them and chased smokey away...maybe lightening or some other source, even though some are saying smokey made the flashes.
Left Behind
Interesting title considering the series of books about the end times:
Left Behind: A Novel of the Earth's Last Days (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_Behind)
Suddenly, without warning, the most devastating time mankind has come to experience comes to pass: millions upon millions world-wide have vanished, the dead and alive, the born and unborn, many seen right before people's very own eyes.
Hmmmm, the word vanished was used about the others...who seemed to just vanished into thin air...nice bit of writing !
Also interesting in light of the episode:
You can't help who you love...
Kate took away her mother's choice... (I'll bet she's more guilty for that then killing her step-father.)
If Kate was to be 'enlightened' in this epi, she still didn't 'get' it, she asked if she could make the choice for the other girl.

When Kate mentioned using saints names it reminded me of the movie The Saint- which was also a tv series, I think?

St. Lucy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Lucy)was also a martyr - she remained true to her faith and held strong, despite persecution. Much like Kate did in regards to killing her stepfather. She held strong, and was unapologetic for it. In the end, it ultimately sacrificed her relationship with her mother.
When Kate mentioned using saints names it reminded me of the movie The Saint- which was also a tv series, I think?Reminds me of that too..

Maggie - short for Margaret. There is no St Maggie but about 100 St Margarets.
From http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/saintm27.htm:
Margaret of Corona : patronage: against temptations (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00713.htm); falsely accused people (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00271.htm); hoboes (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00360.htm); homeless people (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00360.htm); insanity (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00465.htm); loss of parents (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00650.htm); mental illness (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00465.htm); mentally ill people (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00465.htm); midwives (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00472.htm); penitent women (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00549.htm); people ridiculed for their piety (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00811.htm); reformed prostitutes (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00589.htm); sexual temptation (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00813.htm); single laywomen (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00423.htm); tertiaries (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00716.htm); tramps (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00360.htm)
**Ahem** Ok some of it fits. Loss of parents is what stood out for me about Kate.

The beach crew also had a feast (Sawyer's boar) on Dec. 13, the Feast Day of Saint Lucy.
