View Full Version : Plausable reason for Catfight outcome
Mormegil 04-05-2007, 02:45 PM I've listened to a couple of Podcasts (LostCast and Cranky Fanatic/Lost Sucks), and in both I heard gripes about how Kate was able to kick Juliette's butt. The complaint was that Juliette obviously had training, as evidence by her defense and take down off Kate in the pool room.
Well, besides the possibility of Julette letting Kate win on purpose, there's also the fact that she was handcuffed on her right, while Kate was handcuffed on her left.
Assuming they're both right handed (and I don't know that), or at least more adept with their right hands, then Kate will have the advantage, as she has her right hand free.
I personally can't spar worth crap with my left hand as my lead hand, so I can totally see that happening to me.
polusmaximus 04-05-2007, 02:50 PM Kate got lucky when she fell over Juliet and dislocated her shoulder
HoardingHurley81 04-05-2007, 02:56 PM Ummm...she didnt fall over her to dislocate her shoulder. Kate got on top and then went into what I saw as Jason Bourne mode. Something just clicked inside of Kate and she went crazy on her. I still think there is more to Kate than we know, but only time will tell. Maybe special ops, or something.
On a side note, I kept waiting for one of them to get behind the other and pull the other's arm back while saying "Quit hitting yourself! Quit hitting yourself!"

LOL!!! Funny....
Well...Kate's pretty much always been a tough girl. She may have had some training by her dad. We don't know exactly when he left her mom do we..??
What the fight actually tells me is that Juliette is NOT a full blown other ( the strength that Ben and some of the security detail show ) but just normal Juliette with training....
Mojave 04-05-2007, 03:17 PM Elizabeth Mitchell is big into boxing and karate. Just looking at her, who would have thought that? I apply that same view to Juliet.
I think Kate and Juliet are equals. Kate was just surprised at Juliet's reaction time when she delivered the sandwich.

That was a classic scene. Juliet walked in the door, ducked and boom..Kate was flipped on her back.
Madge 04-05-2007, 03:22 PM I don't know what to think of the whole time travel/loop thing, but when Juliette said her arm had been dislocated 3 (4?) time before, that maybe it was a loop and Kate has dislocated her arm before. It could also explain why she was able to get that jump on Kate, if it had happened before.
I doubt I'm right, but that was what I got from it.
realityaxe 04-05-2007, 03:31 PM Kate totally punched Juliette in mid sentence!
Sucker Punch? Yes
Fair? No
Juliette also needed Kate to feel like she was in control or else she wouldnt cooperate with her at all. Kate says to her, "Welcome to the wonderful world of not knowing what's going on" while really, Juliette DOES know what's going on, and is constantly aware of her actions, where as Kate gives little regard to her decisions.
Mojave 04-05-2007, 03:32 PM Kate = impulsive
Juliet = calculating
HoardingHurley81 04-05-2007, 03:35 PM Kate= Ying
Juliet= Yang
ame en peine 04-05-2007, 05:07 PM Kate's always been a tough girl, hasn't she? That why Ed Mars said (something like) keep an eye on that one, meaning Kate.. She's good in a fight and pretty resourceful..
Kate = scrappy wildcat
Juliet = marshall artist
The wild ones win 'cause they've got a bit of tiger in 'em... :biggrin:
Admiral Erik Pressman 04-05-2007, 05:23 PM We know that the whole thing with Juliet being handcuffed to Kate was a scam, so I think it's really likely that Juliet didn't want to beat the crap out of Kate again because she might lost her trust (sounds kind of funny to say it like that). But assuming that didnt happen (I think it did), it's possible for one fighter who is much more skilled that the other to lose if the weaker fighter gets a big advantage early on. No matter how strong Juliet was, she was on her back, Kate had mounted her (this is the technical term), and had her handcuffed arm pulled underneath her as to act like a lever. Juliet wouldn't have got out of that position unless Kate made a huge mistake.
Of course Juliet also did one of those Star Trek leg-flipping things to Kate, which is just about the fakest kind of choreography there is, which just shows that this is kind of pointless to analyze.
PapaThor 04-06-2007, 02:20 AM the cat fights in slo-mo are so cool.
i don't think it was kate-the-flake in the fight... maybe a stunt double
because she hits the floor pretty hard.
same goes for blondie. it looks really physical.
and i do think that blondie let kate-the-flake
get a good punch in. blondie looks like she
could defend herself.
wait... ben lets himself get captured.
blondie lets kate-the-flake get a heads up.
hmmm! i can see another mind game at play.
"excellent" [ a la montgomery burns ]
but of course i saw through it all.
yeah, the more i think about it the more
it looks like [ say this next part like maxwell smart ] "the old-blondie-lets-herself-get-punched-so-
kate-can-appear-to-have-the-upper-hand con"
sounds good to me.
anyhoo, do we really need a plausable reason
for a cat fight in the mud?
i rest my case.

note: i am so close to getting out of baggage
and into coach.
kN3eLb4Z0d 04-06-2007, 02:29 AM Juliet = Tom Sizemore bitten by a radioactive Lenny Dykstra
Kate = Ricky Schroeder
Princeex86 04-06-2007, 02:45 AM juliet let kate win to seem more vulnerable, in every situation when juliet didnt have time to think her physical response was ninja like. thats proof enough to me.
