My first time making a thread. I keep thinking about the Island's electomagnestism.

Here's a couple ramblings I've been thinking about over past two weeks episode...

- cures/slows cancer;
- the women's fetuses to act like cancer within their bodies which is then 'cured'
- Juliet needs to have someone conceive on island to test her theory about conception. Could that be why Sawyer/Kate were set up, or is Juliet preggers which would be strong motivation for her to get off. I think the Sun/Jin story could be good too, but more to reveal who the baby's daddy is.
- Someone else posted in another thread that they didn't want Alex and Karl to get together for fear she'd get pregnant, which was a great catch.

Another odd thought..last week, or the week before they talked about Thanksgiving. I wonder if not the "incidnet" caused an implosion which led to a chain reaction cuasing a massive underground earthquake that will ultimately caused the 2004 tsunami. Probably won't know till next season at earliest since they're likely still a month away.

Just rambling thoughts. Can't tie Smokey into this though.....

sounds good. I am also thinking that this Island was not designated for people to live on forever without leaving but to be able to come and go. Ben is the one that wants complete control over everyone by not allowing them to leave. If they women cannot carry a baby to term on the Island that means they will want to leave the Island to have a baby. Women leaving the Island to have a baby means that they will no longer be under his control

Good theory! I agree that people weren't meant to stay on the island. That's why they keep miscarrying.

Great first thread, Gis! I've thought and actually posted similar ideas about the electromagneticism, too. Here's a summary of my own thoughts:

* The natural electromagnetism of the Island is high due to it being a volcanic island. However, it had no real effect of its own on the Island's inhabitants until Dharma came. The reasoning behind this would be that there was an indigenous population before Dharma showed up, and they seem to have had no problem with fertility issues.

* Dharma created the Swan to enhance the naturally occurring electromagnetism. Once they did this, it began to interfere with human fertility.

* Now that the Swan has been destroyed, the fertility problem ought to go away.

* The cancer cure has nothing to do with the electromagnetism, because the Others were able to cure Rachel of her cancer while she was in Miami.

Here are my thoughts on the island's EM/spirit/smokey:

* I believe that the island's naturally strong magnetic field created the bubble around it by which normal radar/compass navigational tools are useless. IE Bermuda Triangle effect. That may seem pretty obvious . . .

* That would explain the submarine and the use of an underwater sonar beacon

Regarding the effect on the island's inhabitants:

* I believe that those who worshipped the four toed statue were indigenous to the island

* They evolved to such a high spiritual/emotional level that when they died off they became one entity which we know as smokey

* The spirits of these individuals can separate or join together, which would explain why it appears that there's more than one smokey

* The others soon discovered that this paradise was meant only for the spiritually pure

* The others, despite what they claim, are NOT spiritually pure or good that is why it was necessary for them to have a fence around their camp -- so that smokey couldn't invade
