So i have been wondering why so many tallies were on the list, i.e. good people and taken, yet the the main camp walt was taken (child is obviously innocent plus their need for new generations) and claire due to her pregnancy, and the same reason.

No adult it seems was on the list and taken because they were good.

Explanations? Certainly Jack, Locke, Claire seem to be pretty innocent based on flashbacks. Michael too.

If i remember correctly, Picket said Jack was not on the list?

I dont think the lack of kidnapping is due to ethan's death, as the tallies were taken immediately.

I've wondered about that, too. There were far more tailies kidnapped than fuselagers. But we need to be careful about the lists.
There were lists which Goodwin and Ethan made for Ben ("I want lists in three days" ATOTC), which were probably used to get further information on who was on the plane and who survived.
Then there was Mrs. Klugh's list with Jack, Sawyer, Hugo and Kate on it, which was probably compiled by Ben, as we've seen in "Exposé".
And then there is the infamous listTom is referring to, "Jacob's list", on which Jack supposedly was not.
So we can only guess that the lists of Ethan and Goodwin were for informational purposes, Klugh's list was for Ben's plan, and Jacob's list is the one about who's good and who's not. But especially about Jacob's list we simply don't know anything more. And even if it was a list of good and bad, we've already seen that good and bad is mostly a thing of definition. So I think you can't just say that Jack was good, judged by his flashback. If the others were not to deem him good, it would highly depend on what "good" meant in their terms.
But I wholeheartedly agree that it's strange that so many tailies were kidnapped and so few of the other surivors.

In 'Maternity Leave', Claire overhears Tom saying to Ethan something like (to paraphrase) "you were supposed to make the list and then bring her in"

So the list of the Fusies wasn't complete when Ethan's cover was blown.

After Claire's kidnap the Fusies were aware of the Others as a threat, and so it was too late to start kidnapping the 'good' ones.

Thats odd though because a bunch of tallies were taken on night 1.

Maybe the beach wehere the tailies were was far closer to Othersville, so Goodwin could immediately report back. But you're right, one afternoon of post-crash confusion seems like a very short time to make up a list, report back and have your friends come and kidnap those you for some reason deem worthy. Especially since it took far longer on the other side of the island.
And Ben explicitly said "I want lists in 3 days" when he sent Goodwin and Ethan off. Hmm, it's all strange...

Goodwin said that they took the stronger ones on the first night, the ones who were more of a threat - they even tried to take Eko, and with his past I don't think that they would have considered him to be 'good'.

So that move was made deliberately, even before the list was made.

Obviously, it was easier to target the Tailies in that respect because they were only an hour away from Otherville. How far were the Fusies? Was it 2 days walk?
