Sorry if this question has been posted because I haven't seen it yet...

Was Desmond's girlfriend Ruth the daughter of Isaac the faithhealer? I thought I saw "Ruth" before in another episode...

The actess playing Desmond's Ruth is Joanna Bool. I don't recall Isaac having a daughter. Are you referring to Charlotte, the psychic's daughter?

I think so...

In one episode (I think it was Eko-centric), a doctor was about to perform and autopsy on a girl. She turned out to be alive after falling in a pool.

Her father was Isaac (the faith healer) Rose went to see. I got the feeling Isaac wasn't 100% legit when it came to "faith healing" that's why he told Rose he couldn't help her. Rose told Bernard she'd say "you (Isaac) cured me".

I believe Isaac had problems accepting his daughter's legit return from the grave because he had spent years deceiving others.

That's my take on what's happened so far. I've gotta go back and watch the Eko epi again...

Uuuuuuuh. No.

Charlotte Malkin (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Charlotte_Malkin) was the daughter of Richard Malkin (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Richard_Malkin), Claire's psychic from "Raised by Another". Isaac of Uluru (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Isaac_of_Uluru) is someone else entirely.

I got the feeling Isaac wasn't 100% legit when it came to "faith healing" that's why he told Rose he couldn't help her. Rose told Bernard she'd say "you (Isaac) cured me".

Isaac had no daughter. Wrong psychic.

Also, she doesn't look at all like Ruth, plus she lives in Australia, whereas Ruth lives in the UK and would be a couple of years older by now (as Desmond's flashbacks are set in the 1995-97 vicinity, whereas Eko's flashback was set just prior to the crash, in 2004).

Isaac of Uluru (Rose's faith healer) = Wayne Pygram

Richard Malkin (Claire's psychic, and father of "dead" girl) = Nick Jameson.

Charlotte Malkin ("dead" girl) = Brooke Anderson.

Ruth = Joanna Bool.

I'm just wondering why she had an irish accent when the story was taking place in Scotland. Maybe I'm not a accent-ologist, but it seemed a bit off to me.

I think it was supposed to be Scottish. It started off Scots but a few things came out Irish.

Her accent did sound very Irish but that doesn't mean she isn't living in Scotland.

Sorry. I recognize "ruth" from some show...can't remember where. thought it was an earlier epi of Lost. I stand corrected.

FWIW, sounded like a bizarre attempt at a glasgow accent to me? the actress is apparently english.

Scottish person here. Though it is likely that if the actress is english she may have screwed up the accent but it does sound like the way people speak on the Scottish island of lewis. It's just off the west coast of scotland and generally when anyone sounds half scottish half irish they are generally from there or surrounding islands.

I can't claim to be Scottish like fiona3, but I did just return from a lengthy vacation in Scotland, and everyone on the Team was surprised by the diversity of dialects we heard there (and in England). Admittedly, we get a rather slim view of the dialects of the world here in San Diego, but it was still very humbling to us to be reminded that our perceptions of how Scottish people talk or how English people talk might based a little too much on the few stars we see on t.v. interviews and award shows and not enough on a broad sampling of natives from those regions.
Ruth's dialect was less disturbing to me than the fact that she looked way too young to have been dating anyone for 6 years...unless they started in junior high school. :ohwell:

I guess I was totally thrown off by the old lady decor of her house to even notice her or her accent. Seriously, how many doilies can one have?!

She was Desmond's old girlfriend, the one he disappeared on a week before the wedding. Her brother came to the monastary, punched Demond in the nose, and marched out. Then Des went to their house, and the brother answered the door. She and Des sat in the aforementioned old-lady parlor sipping tea under the watchful eye of about 108 curcifixes on the walls while she whined at him about being a coward. He told the story about getting drunk and being found by a man with a rope around the waist. It was all contained in "Catch-22" in the flashbacks.
Hope that helps jog your memory.

She was this girl: http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage-1284-449.html

Her brother was the man who punched Desmond in the Monastery. He went to her house. They showed the scene right after they thought saw the light in the sky and heard the noise. I hope this helps

Thanks a lot. I guess I didn't know that was her name. I had read on another post about the Biblical connection between Ruth and "she who must not be named" (because its a spoiler) and I found it interesting but couldn't place ruth.
