I've seen sth about them somewhere else already, but ... WHO ARE THEY? ???

Nutmae
11-20-2004, 04:38 PM
I think the only place they've showed up was in the episode "The Moth". Jack is trapped in the cave, and Charlie runs out to the beach to get help. Michael yells over to Scott and Steve (mixing up which one is which) to come help and they come to the caves and help dig into the tunnel.

Scott and Steve can be like Ed and Larry on West Wing, they just need to show up more and continue getting mistaken for one another. Every show must have the interchangeable two red shirt types, it's like tv law.

Hey everybody,

This is Christian Bowman, I play the character Steve that was introduced in The Moth. * A little interesting fact for those of you who want to know... I was originally hired for the part and the line in that particular scene was supposed to be delivered just by *'Steve'. *However, Jack Bender (Co-Executive Producer and Director for that episode) split the line and gave Dustin a bump as they say and moved him from the background to the foreground. While some of the other scenes that we've done ended on the cutting room floor, I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked on this production. *It's been amazing to work with such generous and talented people... truly world class individuals!

Well thanks for the splinter thread.

Christian,

I was wondering. Because obviously other then "They" on the island the show can't really introduce new characters. So how do they go about that with the background characters and smaller island roles? Do you sign something for the duration of the show? Or is it different? (I've always wondered with shows like Voyager and stuff, because the background cast has to stay the same logically.

Thanks!

Hi Christian,

Nice to see you on the linear board tonight.

Your scene was a nice moment of comic relief. There was an avatar here somewhere in your honor.

Sorry if you've already responded to this, but any ideas if you'll be coming back?

Welcome back Christian! :)

Were you able to chill with the cast on the set? They seem like great people! :)

christian
12-13-2004, 04:13 AM
Well,
So far there have only been a few of the other castaways introduced... I am not really at liberty to discuss too much about the upcoming episodes or about the scenes that were deleted..., however, the breakdown is that they do employ the same background extra's... for continuity reasons. *There is a per episode contract on t.v. shows for non cast members. *I personally have been very fortunate to have been employed by Lost as one of the first non major cast members on the island that was not in the Pilot episode. *A funny thing, I was a day player on an episode of North Shore that was directed by Kevin Hooks who has also directed two episodes of Lost. *Great guy. *The one person I really wish I could've met was J.J. Abrams just so I could thank him for creating this world... the creative forces behind so many other productions seem so locked inside a formula box and this team of creativity is so refreshing with the character development and real emotion.
Anyway, sorry I can't answer some of the questions you all may have about the show but, what I can I'll be glad to.
Christian

And thank you for doing so!

Hope to see you back on the island, only less in the background =)

Ahem.
I probably shouldn't ask, but regarding your website - what does qualify as an odd job? *lol*

Love the graphics by the way!
(And the motor-bike =D)

Also - have to agree with you about the freshness and character-development.
You hardly get that these days. And if it's that good - it gets cancelled =/

As for the Odd Job thing...

Mona Lee in Austin has an incredible acting class. While I'm sure she's been in much more demand, at the time I was able to work out a deal with her to water her plants in return for classes. Only thing was her backyard was like a jungle. So I would go and water her plants and was able to kind of meditate if you will in this amazing setting. She really helped me in my life. If you did check out my website you'll see some of the events that happened in my life prior to that. I can never thank her enough for the direction she gave me.

Ceirdwyn
12-13-2004, 04:30 AM
I did.
But I didn't feel comfortable bringing those up since they're pretty personal.
You do have my deepest sympathy.

I am glad that you found her though if it helped you so much!
People like that are rare.

About the job - ok.. wouldn't call that necessarily odd.
Funny though that someone else sees gardn work as kind of meditating =)

christian
12-13-2004, 04:43 AM
As for the personal stuff, if I didn't want anyone to know, I wouldn't have allowed it on the website.... it was a major changing part of my life and has given fuel and meaning to even the smallest things in life. *This time around is precious and I want people to know, especially other people that may have had tragedy in their life, that there are channels to release the emotions. *I have found mine through music and acting, but if it's gardening or wrenching gears on their car or staring at sunsets or whatever the release is... use it. *There's a saturation level for everyone, just like sugar in water, we can only absorb so much. *Whether you lost loved ones or your cat or didn't get treated the way you deserve or whatever the case may be... not to pun the episode names, find your outlet and live your life to the fullest!

christian

Going through times like that myself, I can nothing but agree.
Just wishing that people could actually realize that without tragic events in their lives., as you said yourself.
Life's just too short and too precious to waste it, in whatever way.

Anyway.

Thank you for that reminder - maybe it will make some people rthink about it and find their own way.
Also, thank you for the openness.

Man, it is about to be a beautiful sunset and I am about to go watch it at the beach. The waves up country are 18-24 ft hawaiian which means that the faces are twice as large. That's powerful water! The skies are blue and the trades are blowin. A little chilly at around 70 f. Kinda difficult with the time difference, those on the mainland are about to go to sleep, those in Aussie are still at work, and those in Europia are probably still sleeping. Anyway, looks like it's almost time to go for me...

Hey guys,

I noticed I forgot to thank Nutmae for starting this thread and Andrea for creating the avatar. Also thanks to Ceirdwyn for posting it back into the gallery... much appreciated. Anyway, Was just checking my e-mail and got tractor beamed into the fuselage. Supposed to be some sort of rogue wave rolling in tonight and hitting the north shore around 2am. Tommorow morning is going to get some of the biggest waves in years... folks in tv land may get to enjoy the ocean as a background character in the January/February episodes as it definetly has a life of it's own.

You are truly starting to worry me ;)

How was filming today?

As for the avatar - de nada.
But it was grackle who asked me do it, calling herself/himself too incompetent to do such things (which is so not true, probably, but - oh well).

Going through the LB - 32 schools?!
I mean - I know people who have been to like 7 or 8 - but that beats pretty much everyone.
Is kind of learning to go to extremes pretty early...

And I must have missed that two days ago - skydiving!
*sigh* One of these days, I swear...

Oh well. Getting into ramble-mode again, sorry.
One last thing - that twisting the knife-thing over at the LB - so not affecting me!
What's better than to curl up on the sofa with some tea when it's snowing outside and watching movies or reading a book!?
There! Being all positive. And yes - that was a rhetorical question! ;)

Enjoy the waves and say hi to the sun for me. because me? Not likely to see it the next few weeks as it seems.

You're welcome, Christian!

I like to make silly/humorous avatars. *points to current avatar* Lost has this really interesting dichotomy going on, in that the main plotlines of the series are extremely serious and angsty, but the in-between times, the downtimes before the Major Things That Happen, must deal with the mundane and occasionally the absurd, so it lends itself to fluff and humor/ comic relief really well too. That line with Scott and Steve in "The Moth" was a really great moment in the series, because it was a sort of meta-commentary on the show, with how the audiences were wondering about the 30-odd remaining survivors and who they were. It also really underscored the sort of general mindset of all the different "core" characters, where they'd been stranded together for nearly 2 weeks and still hadn't learned some of the other people's names. Plus the delivery was laugh-out-loud funny. Dustin Watchman's reaction was really terrific too.

(PS: Another former theater major here. *waves*)

*Sigh* Scott. We hardly knew ya! Good luck in the future Dustin.

LIL, I was wondering that too. Initially, I thought "Well, Hurley did the census, he would know those bits of info" but I would assume that since we've Scott hang out with Steve in multiple episodes, Steve would know more of Scott's bio than Hurley.

I was really, really, REALLY bummed when I found out who was in that "body bag". I was hoping Scott/Dustin would get bumped up a little more. In fact, I hope that the people in the background get integrated more--it's getting a tiny bit claustrophobic with the core 14. Just one or two lines a show by the different people that the 14 are castaways with would be cool.

Lost_In_Louisiana
02-11-2005, 09:59 AM
Yep, I agree. I mean, yes the core 14 is a large main cast, but c'mon there are 46 people around! It would be nice to see some minor characters get involved in the plot - like when they had several minor characters up at the golf course mixed in with the big 14 - that was nice and gave the viewers a chance to get to know a few of them up close.

Of course it's also getting a little obnoxious that they have been on the island a month and they are all still pretty gorgeous! ;D

TO CLARIFY! (from HOMECOMING)

Scott, the dead guy, was being played by CHRISTIAN! Their roles were switched for some reason...and Dustin is now "guy in background" or "steve"....but Dustin is still "on the show" - CHRISTIAN was the one who played deadguy Scott....I know - confusing! It took me almost 9 hours and some serious "what?" and "huh?" convos with Christian & Dustin to figure it out!

I'm glad to see that someone else is onto this whole Sceve trick they are pulling on us! I posted a long message about this under one of the Homecoming topics re Steve & Scott.

For anyone mourning the loss of Scott, read this:
A former background actor on the show, Watchman’s character “Scott” has been chosen to have a more prominent role as the show progresses. The future will bring a development of “Scott’s” relationship with his companion “Steve” and why they were traveling together.

Now, let's all have a moment of silence for Steve, whoever he was.

OMG OMG OMG OMG! :jump:

Thanks for the info! It's so hard to read everything here and it's great when people cross-post. But......
They have some 'splaining to do. If Dustin shows up, they have to explain how a guy who clearly (in The Moth) states "I'm Scott!" is still alive when they had a burial for him. Maybe Hurley will just go "My bad, sorry dude". ;)

Heh, my friend loves LOST but is more of a casual watcher, doesn't check out the boards and stuff.

So when Sceve first dies we're like "What?! Jip! It was just a redshirt!"

Then Sawyer's all: It was Steve.

My friend: *shrug* Damn producers!
Me: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Hurley: Dude, that was Scott.

Friend: *eyes me* Um, huh?
Me: WHAT?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! SCOTT! *sob*

I was actually pretty upset, does that make me crazy? I know my friend thinks it does.

Hey all! I'm trying to make this list/'character guide' of all the survivors on the island (site can be here (http://www.lnctv.com/~a40015c/lost/lost.html)).

I know it's not good or anything, but it's not supposed to be, just a list (and faces) of the people on the island!

So I would kind of need two things:

1) Info about the Steve/Scott thingy. Who actually died? Did they 'trick' the other survivors or what?

2) Help with the site: Pictures and names etc. of other survivors that we've seen! Maybe, if we're really lucky, we'll get a name, or at least a picture of every one of the 48 or so survivors! Thanks for helping out :D

If you have any questions or want to contribute somehow, just post here or email me at ellkay@gmail.com

Excellent project!

As for the Scott/Steve thing, who knows? Your tags are right--the guy on the left was identified as Steve, played by Christian Bowman and the guy on the right in the blue shirt, was identified as Scott played by Dustin Watchman. However, it's gotten very confusing since the Homecoming episde. Christian was actually the actor that they found beaten to a pulp, but they identified him as Scott and "Scott" (Dustin) didn't correct them. The discussion of the whole mess starts here (http://www.thefuselage.com/threaded/index.php?topic=2258.120).

I love the background actors so I'll try to grab some screen caps, crop 'em and e-mail 'em to you. By the end of next week.

Please, please clear up the Steve, Scott, Dustin, Christian thing.

As I understand it:
Christian was hired to play Steve, a smaller character with speaking parts.
Dustin was hired to play Scott, a smaller character, with no speaking parts.

Later, Dustin got bumped up to speaking status -- good for him.

But then one day, Dustin was not around to film his part and it was the last day of shooting for the episode, so Christian filled in as Scott -- thus starting the craziness.

From here on, I am not sure what happened next, but it almost sounds like Christian did a good deed and got himself killed for his troubles. In the process, Dustin's character is now Steve and Scott (Christian ) is dead. Is this right? So, if Dustin had shown up to work on the day Christian filled in for him, then Dustin would be out and Christian still in? If so, that is so unfair! If it's not right, please correct.

Cheers!

From what I understand, Christian was given a short-term part, and Dustin, a long term speaking role. Dustin was not scheduled to be on set that day, so they had Christian play the guy in the bag. It's not that they killed off Christian's character out of convenience because Dustin was playing hookie.

From the introduction of this pair, there has always been confusion over which one is which. Hurley doesn't seem to get mixed up about other peoples names. But they have made it a point several times to establish that people get Scott & Steve mixed up a lot. Why is that?

I think the point is to keep the audience confused as to which is which. I personally think that since no one has a clear idea of which one is which, Dustins character (formerly known as Scott) is assuming the identity of Christians character (Steve). Scott has something to hide, and has chosen to take this opportunity to change identities. One simple "I'm Steve" at this point, and it's official.

Hopefully we will learn in the future what the deal is with this pair. Everyone else has a big secret, why not Sceve?

Scott, no Steve has to be the most memorable red shirt in the history of television!
Good luck with wherever your career takes you next. Glad you're sticking around with your fans to enjoy the fun!

O.K., now I'M lost! Though everyone has made this thread entertaining! I'm glad I stopped by.
I live in Germany and I'm behind everyone a couple of shows. I get that 'Scott' the character is dead because I read it here (I don't now how he died). But, which actor is off the show now, Christian or Dustin? And who's playing Steve? ??? Christian was in the bodybag? Do I have that much right?
I'm sorry I'm not up to speed.

Here's a picture of Christian Bowman (who claims to be Steve ;))
http://www.christianbowman.net/

Could someone look at the funeral scene in Homecoming and confirm that he's the same guy who is standing behind Michael?

It seems to me that Scott Jackson (Dustin Watchman) is dead, and Steve Jenkins (Christian Bowman) is alive, which is what everybody on the show has been saying all along. Is it possible that no one is impersonating anyone and we are all imagining it?

Blamo, it's not. On the Sceve ship thread, a bunch of LOST forensics experts, me included, went over this. And over it and over it and......

1. In The Moth Christian is clearly identified as Steve, Dustin as Scott when Michael asks for help after the cave in
2. It was Christian that they found dead after Ethan's threat to Charlie
3. Neither Dustin or Christian were at the Hurley-led burial scene, it just another white guy behind Hurley. Hey, we all look the same, it's an easy mistake to make! :)
4. Dustin's contract says his characters name is Scott
5. Christian hasn't been seen since his character's death
6. Dustin has
7. For reasons known only to them, the writers have killed off Christian but gave a funeral for the name associated with Dustin

I *think* that's where we are with this. I suspect there's just a lame "Wait, I thought *you* were Steve" joke by Hurley in our future, but it could have more sinister implications [cue spooky music]

according to Christian, Raggs, and several other VIPs I have consulted....

the MYSTERY OF SCEVE is just a mystery to THEM as it is US! (I am not sure JJ and Damon even know how that one goes)

Chalk it up to the LOST plotline of LOST...lol

in all seriousness, Christian as Steve then Scott is gone...now it will be interesting if Dustin becomes Scott now Steve, or if he has another name if/when his character develops more...

OR - we may find out during the finale (JJ and the gang KNOW we all question this, and maybe they will help us out!)

or - we may never know....lol

I definately saw Christian on last night's show. He plays Steve. I went to his website & he is credited there as playing Scott/Steve on Exodus Part 1. Very confusing indeed. Dustin was also seen in several scenes. I think the writers are messing with us royally! I love it! ;D

I'm glad I came upon this thread. I had a similar idea yesterday while watching sthe show. There are so many background character without names etc. My idea was to make a list of descriptions, with a picture if it's available and give them temporary names just to keep all the one's who don't have one straight then as the other chracters are brought to the front and given names ect. we could edit the "Master List".

Ellkay, you could keep editing your first post to reflect the changed etc. This way at least when we see them on the island we at least have a "name" for them and it won't be so confusing when trying to write things about the extras etc.

What do you guys thinks, it's basicly Ellkay's idea just taken a little further, I'd be totally happy to participate in getting pictures, actors names and made-up names together.....:)

It's funny that the only one who can tell Scott and Steve apart is Sawyer (and everyone keeps correcting him). The fact that they keep reminding us about the Scott/Steve thing makes me think it's going to amount to more than "just a lame 'Wait, I thought *you* were Steve' joke by Hurley," as JeremyBender put it.

hmmm maybe christian bowman (Steve) was the one who got beaten up .. but then Dustin Watchman (Scott) decided this was the perfect opportunity to obtain a new identit .. for some reason!!

So, Steve died, they identified him (incorrectly - cos they always get mixed up) as Scott, and (the real) Scott thinks, hey ok - i'll be Steve now ...

Only Walt knows the difference ..

The Sceve mention made me laugh. That was awesome. But yeah, if Ana gets confused between Scott and Steve and "Scott" was dead before she even met him, that makes me think there's something fishy going on....

JeremyBender
03-12-2006, 01:49 PM
Hey y'all.

I was a regular on the 'lage during the first season, especially on any Sceve related threads. After season 1 ended, I realized I was becoming a little too obsessed with this board and....hey.....hush! like you aren't too!....hush I said :) :) I was here looking at spoilers so much that when the things that everyone was convinced was going to happen didn't pan out on the show, I started to get mad at the show for not following the spoilers. I thought "Hmmm...not good".

So, anyways, AL's mention and the little bit of banter about "Scott, no Steve, no Scott" made me all nostalgic and everything for this place.

So, when the hell is Dustin going to get a line or two? When Ana Lucia has her army ready to go?

BTW, I nearly fainted when I saw that the Sceve ship thread was at 181 pages. :eek2:

[chanting] Sceve! Sceve! Sceve!

Jewel

JeremyBender
03-13-2006, 02:18 PM
HJ, I've been excellent. It's just that this board kind of overtook my life at the end of last season--it almost got to the point that I was so involved in the spoiler and speculation threads that the actual TV episodes seemed kind of meh in comparison. :) Not a good thing!

I just want to see Dustin bumped up where he gets some lines. It's still my only real complaint about the show: the core cast lives in a bubble as it were--I realize that there's issues with money and credits and all that if they give the extras a line or two but it bugs me that say, Jack and Ana Lucia will be walking along the beach, passing by people, and he won't say to one of the extras "Hey Don, how's the ankle doing" or that kind of thing.

I feel better knowing that at some point, The Mystery of Scott, No Steve, No Scott will be solved. :)

So, what have you damn kids been up to over at the ship? Breaking lamps? Spilling beer on the carpet? Leaving your damn togas all over the place? :)

hippiejewel
03-13-2006, 06:45 PM
Lots of Toga parties!!!! LOL The last episode that I know Dustin was in was the one where Kate cuts Sawyer's hair......He's behind them in the tent.....Other than that Dustin has been in school......Christian did a scene on 24 last week.....Other than that not too much. Just fun.....

Majandra
03-27-2006, 05:13 PM
There were 2 scenes where I was thinking I could have been him... but just way in the back and really blurry, so it could have been really any tall, dark-haired guy...

When I watch the episode the next time, I'll try to get a closer luck at him and make screencaps. But since Dustin never mentioned anything, my guess is, it's not him.

Yep that sums it up.

Althogh the actor who played the body in Homecoming was Christian Bowman ("Steve") so we ASSUME that our lost aways just got it all wrong and it was actually Steve who died and not Scott...

So far no one knows for sure... not even the actors themselves...

Only thing for certain is that Dustin Watchman ("Scott") stills works on the show and Christian doesn't.

Majandra

No, he wasn't. The last ep we saw the Sceve was in 2x10, afaik. And yes it is confusing...

Remus Lupin
04-15-2006, 06:04 AM
It is not confusing. I am quite a Scever and I have (with others) figured this out a LONG time ago.

Steve Jenkins died. Scott Jackson didn't. The Sceve is a running gag in the series. Everybody mistakes Steve to Scott and Scott to Steve. The man whose neck was snapped by supposedly Ethan or another Other.

Read this post (http://lost-forum.com/showpost.php?p=901902&postcount=6) by Frank Sawyer at Lost-Forum.

Then look at this one (http://lost-forum.com/showpost.php?p=901945&postcount=8). Frank Sawyer's too.

Right after that read this one (http://lost-forum.com/showpost.php?p=902078&postcount=10).

And this (http://lost-forum.com/showpost.php?p=903607&postcount=15) is good for confirming too.

Yes, Frank Sawyer did have a huge argument over the Sceve with me (boy, was I stubborn! *slaps self*) and I'm thankful she did correct me.

But if this leaves you some doubt, you need to have your head examined.

Thank you. :)

Majandra
04-15-2006, 07:01 AM
Well it is confusing because the Islanders constantly get it wrong. ;) Of course, we Scevers know the truth (although it's still in the power of Damon and JJ to toss it all around) but I guess there's a reason why I'm fighting (or used to fight.... I've given up LOL) some trolls at the imdb message board who got a bit nasty when I tried to correct them on the "who's alive and who's dead" issue.

Thread about Dustin (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1750605/board/flat/35044551)
Thread about Christian (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1712435/board/flat/35044938)

Oh, I'm registered and you're going to have to buy a 17" screen. Brand new. Because I just punched my screen, because duchessnicole and ilovebeetles annoyed the heck out of me and I tried to punch them. My anger clouded my common sense and it was too late to realize I couldn't punch them through the screen. Small detail.

But it's funny how some people are in such a denial. Especially ilovebeetles made me laugh; he was SO into Scott, thinking he is the greatest and crying after his death, even though he is alive! Same to duchessnicole who is a "true and decidated fan of Christian Bowman". Some dedication there.

Personally, I think Christian is better looking than Dustin. I always somehow liked Steve better than Scott, so I was more than sad when he died. Well, I can only hope that ONE DAY the character Scott will be pulled out from the shadows and given a REAL role.

Well, I'm pretty sure I saw him in "Dave" and I thought I saw him in "The Long Con". I don't know about you guys, though.

Dustin hasn't been on the show for a while from what he told Lynn......He couldn't take a few scenes on the beach because of school.....

Well we know now that he was in Two for the Road. I think I should start a rerun of S2 episodes and look out if I can find him in any other eps... although I was pretty much on lookout during the whole season...

Your eyes must be better than mine.....LOL Do you think we'll see him at the Honolulu airport in 6 weeks or so? He told Lynn he wanted to meet us there...LOL

That would be a nice test for my fabulous SDS (Sceve Detecting Senses) in RL. LOL!

Should we all wear our Dustin Shirts? That would make it easier for him to spot us... or wait... we should make HIM wear a Dustin shirt. :rotflmao2:

Jewel

You know, if they don't solve the "Who's alive *really*, Scott or Steve?" and have Dustin show up and get some lines in Season 3, I'm not goting to watch this damn show and their forgetful, can't-get-Sceve-straight writers ever again.  :furious:

OK, that's a total lie. But still, c'mon TPTB, the other Losties outside of the main cast are going to get some play this year, get Sceve/Dustin involved more.
