Okay, there has been much discussion about the files, and how The Others were able to assemble such comprehensive information on our Losties. Some have argued that they were able to get a manifest and generate basic information on each person, but come on, Sawyer's HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT?

Actually, I think a HS transcript would be easier to acquire than information about killing the man in Australia, although I'm not sure why they thought it was relevant. HS is all public record, no?

I don't think your actual transcript is public record. I had to request transcripts for grad school, and went through an ID process in order to get my record.

Well, I just think that they must have people whose full-time jobs is getting all of this information compiled.
Plus, if you believe in a large conspiracy going on, which I do, then can easily believe that there were people in each of the Losties' lives who worked for the Others or DHARMA or whatever. So, for example, I wouldn't be surprised if Hibbs worked for the Others, and informed the Others of what Saywer did.

Hmm, I don't know, but since I subscribe to the conspiracy theory idea Laura is referencing, I guess I could explain that away (to myself). Who knows, maybe Locke was making random stuff up. We know he wasn't being truthful about the contents of the file.

LL, good idea on Hibbs!

These people have people in HIGH places and in LOW... I think they could acquire any information they wanted. They have just made an entire plane full of people crash, wreckage - WITH BODIES - have been found.

They could get HS transcripts - no problem.

Oh, I agree. I remember though that there was a line of thinking when we first saw Mikhail watching the feed of the Oceanic flight's disappearance, some were arguing that there was nothing in the file that couldn't be found with a simple Google search. I think that notion is no longer, between the Sydney murder, and the information in Sawyer's file about the connection to Anthony Cooper.

They say that High School transcript follows you everywhere through life. I thought that was all crap made to keep HSers in line, but now I wonder...

Same here. I have always had to provide an ID and signature for transcripts to be released, or I had to mail the school a signed, handwritten letter asking for the transcript to be released.

I guess they just added that line because most people haven't had to deal with school records. Maybe?

I was more amazed with the fact that they knew cooper was the real sawyer coz if it was common knowledge cooper would have been locked away in a room with bars not tied to a chair...<G>

That was for you to acquire the information through LEGAL means... I'm sure the "Others" use whatever means possible to get the information they want. Since that information resides in a computer somewhere - I'm sure someone could tap into it illegally. (Maybe this whole Dharma/Hanso stuff is all about the world supercomputer that contains all the information that is in every computer in the world).

Not that this negates your point (given the timescale involved) but Cooper was adept at evading the law. He was a fugitive after Locke took his plunge and the authorities admitted defeat in locating him.

That's what I'm saying as well. You're going to get some of this information from being a good hacker (HS transcript), but some other information is much more sophisticated. Do we have government connections here? Military? Renegade ex-government? Rogue scholars?
