Why not ever "resort" yourself to vote for President Bush?

If I were able to vote, I would have voted KERRY! I have no idea how Bush got in again, and with moral issues! I'm sorry, but the lives of people are more important than whether or not same sex people can get married (not to mention the fact that it is discrimination to not allow them to). One could argue about Kerry being for abortion (which I am against) but that should not have been an issue to choose on because Bush hasn't done a thing to stop it. Not to mention the fact that poverty is a moral issue and he has only worsened that.
I can't wait until I can vote in 2008, though then it will be a tough decision if it is McCain who gets the Republican ticket.

Okay, sorry, i was wrong, Bush has done some stuff.

Wait, ANDA will ban doctors from talking to their patients about the choice of abortion? Now, I am against it, but in a way that I want it to be harder to get, and to have the adoption system strengthened. *Banning them from talking about the choice (especially if there is a health issue) is wrong.

theG

A lot of foster homes suck.* We do need to strenghten the adoption system.* Let gay couples adopt, for Goddard's sake!* Most child molestors are heterosexual, anyway.* But the issue at hand, I believe, is not a fetus--not protoplasm--but a woman and her rights.

I'm trying not to get too political on this board.* So PEACE out, 'lagers!* :-*

ETA: You can make abortion illegal, but you're just killing women. When abortion was illegal, hundreds of women died from unsafe abortions or from trying to give themselves abortions.

the Abortion Issue: Varda's split personalities at their best.
The main thing I want, is the doctor to really talk to the woman about the choices. Let them know all the sides of the issue, especially teen mothers who are somewhat desperate. Just walking in and having them pull out the fetus does not seem right.

theG
03-05-2005, 09:26 PM
That's not how it is at all. Not even close. You have to talk to psychiatrists and doctors and discuss all the options before you get an abortion. If you're a teen, you have to have parental permission in most cases. An abortion is not that easy to get.

Varda
03-05-2005, 09:35 PM
Really? I once read a book about teen pregnancy where it was totally different. Times may have changed from when the book was written (based on a true story a few years ago) but it made it seem that it was easy to get an abortion, even multiple ones. Who knows, maybe the doctors weren't following correct procedure or the character was able to lie about her age. I really should research it a bit more, but when I have I just get a bunch of pro-life pictures of dead babies (maybe i shouldn't search while at my Catholic school, they probably have all the abortion sites blocked)

yeah but what you never hear is all the tons of women who can never have children again from messed up abortions... I'm a Christian and God talks about life before birth "you knew me even in my mother's womb" and fetus's kick, get hiccups, DON"T share blood with the mother. The mother is the carrier of the life until it is ready to come into the open world.. it is not a part of her, therefore she has no choice in it at all. These are just my opinions and you know i still love ya G lol. *G and i know we have major differences in opinions but we can still be kool with each other and be civilized.

Oh and to DR... yes i voted for Bush. *My whole family does, and my grandparents from... dum dum dum! Ohio! rofl. *And uh, yeah sometimes there were deaths by the illegal abortions but the death ratio was way down because of the discouragement of the legal ones. They are not really any more safe. OH and the "partial-birth" abortion is called that because.... it's where they baby's body comes out and then they suffocate the head. SO they baby is born and then it is left to die. *It is very sickening and if people knew the whole truth, i'm sure a lot more would be against it. Plus, i'm a big fan of this war... not war itself... but the premise of allowing others to have freedom... and those soldiers wouldn't have joined if they didn't have the heart for others and their country and the stance of freedom. *Those who wanted money for college deserve this anyway. I can't vote for a man like John Kerry, who was so against the helping of Vietnam and every other damn war that's ever been. *And on the thought of gay marriage... that's just a sickening twist of what God meant to be a great gift. It's a miscontsruation... males and females have their certain differences for those reasons. *I'm not gonna say it's a mental disorder or nothing like that... but they are NOT born that way. *God does not create homo's. Im not using that in a derogative way. I have no hate towards homosexuals or bisexuals, i just hate the sin. *Sry for my rant.... it's prolly best we leave politics off here but we've had some good success in the past :P *

And forcing a woman to carry a fetus to term can be defined as a state of servitude (Lack of personal freedom, as to act as one chooses.) which is illegal.* By definition, a fetus is a parasite (An organism that grows, feeds, and is sheltered on or in a different organism while contributing nothing to the survival of its host. ).

Separation of Church and State for the whole God issue.* Not everyone's a Christain, and not everyone believes in God* ;D

These are just my opinions and you know i still love ya G lol.* G and i know we have major differences in opinions but we can still be kool with each other and be civilized.

Yepperdoo* :-*

OH and the "partial-birth" abortion is called that because.... it's where they baby's body comes out and then they suffocate the head. SO they baby is born and then it is left to die.*

Incorrect.* When the bones begin to calcify in the fetus, you have to induce labor and then the fetus is removed.* These types of abortion (they're actually called D&E) usually occur in the second trimester.* I'm trying to find the percent, but I'm positive the large majority of D&E do NOT occur within the third trimester and they mainly take place due to serious medical reasons.

Check out the facts:

Here's my opinion on a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. (And the only reason I'm sharing it is that it has nothing to do with morality.)

It is absolutely shocking to me that Conservatives would back a constitutional amendment regarding gay marriage. At the heart of conservatism is a belief in a smaller central government, leaving states and localities plenty of room to legislate themselves. It is a strong believe is the separation of powers, and the idea that no branch of government should try to usurp more power than was given to it in the Constitution itself.

The Constitution states clearly that the legislative branch may use only those powers given it in the Constiution itself and may not legislate beyond those boundaries. The main areas where Congress may legislate is interstate commerce, taxing and spending, and federal property. If Congress is not given a power in the Constitution, it simply doesn't have it. Passing legislation that deals with morality or marriage is not a power given to Congress--thus Congress doesn't have it.

This is exactly the type of issue that the Founding Fathers wanted to go to states or localities. It's a basic issue of federalism and separation of powers.

Not that I don't respect everyone else's opinions--I just enjoy annoying people with my yapping about the Constitution. :)

I read Anne's Baby. It was the diary of a 14 year old who got pregnant, only names edited (at least thats what the back said). She actually chickened out when in the waiting room for the abortion, so there probably was more to it when they called her name. I am divided on the issue because I do believe that it is murder (although I am for stem cell research 100%, the research will SAVE lives) but I also believe in having choice. Like I said, my multiple personalities at their best.

I'm sorry, but homosexuality is actually natural. There are homosexual animals, and unless they are somehow affected by our society, then they were born that way. Not allowing people to be married who want to be and are in love is against AMERICA. The marriage will not be official in a Church, only recognized by the state, and they will have the same benefits as any married couple.

I am against all war, the whole premise is completely idiotic. Many see me as young and stupid, but really, why can't stupid disagreements be settled in a soccer game? Yea, I know I'm an utopiest. I can see Bush wanting to bring peace to the Middle East. But why the lies? I am not against the soldiers, they are doing their job, and maybe what they think is right. But they do not deserve to be forced to watch innocents die from a bomb they dropped. No one deserves that horror. War should be the last resort, and Bush did nothing before going to war. And because of this war many have died, our soldiers, some terrorists, and tonsd of innocent Iraqis.

Abortion saved a friend of mine's life. I can't remember exactly what was wrong (I should ask), but the fetus was probably not going to survive and my friend would have died if she hadn't had the pregnancy terminated.

Abortion for health issues I am for 100%. It really is when a perfectly healthy woman is just getting rid of the perfectly healthy baby because they want to do other things that I'm against. Sure, it is 9 months of servitude, but if we can clear up the adoption issue then actions could be taken so it is not servitude but a type of job, in a way.

theG
03-05-2005, 11:25 PM
You having to do a job you don't want to is slavery.* A fetus isn't a baby, either.

From abortionisprolife.com:

Is a baby a fetus?
A baby, infant, or child, is not a fetus. A baby is an actual human being. A baby, or adult, is a fetus actualized, just like a young oak tree is an acorn actualized.

Also from abortionisprolife.com:

Is abortion murder?
Murder is the taking of the life of another human being through the initiation of physical force. Abortion is not murder, because a fetus is not an actual human being—it is a potential human being, i.e. it is a part of the woman [part of the womb]. The concept murder only applies to the initiation of physical force used to destroy an actual human being, such as when "pro-life" terrorists bomb abortion clinics.

ETA: No matter how long the duration, slavery is still unconstitutional. And pregnancy and labor really take a toll on the body.

BurningStar4

Heres my stand, and don't bother trying to change me, I am stubborn and set in my ways* :lol2:

Abortion

Pro choice, why, because we only speak for ourselves, we do not speak for anyone else.* Whatever one woman chooses to do with her body and her child is her own business.* Who is anyone else to have an opinion in the matter? If she regrets it, she made her choice, let her live with it, if she doesn't regret it, let her be happy, it is HER life, no one elses.* Would I have an abortion, probably not.* But then again, I haven't had to deal with a pregnancy at a young age, or being raped and getting pregnant, or simply not wanting a baby....Is abortion murder? well according to the law it is not since it is legal (and a fetus is actually not a human being believe it or not), however everyone has their own moral agenda to live by, and that is great, but dont press your own morals onto another person.

Gay Rights

Why not?* Gay people are no different than straight people, except for their sexual preference in a partner, big deal.* Again, who is anyone else to voice their opinion in the matter, it is their life, let them be happy.* It states in the Constitution that everyone is entitled to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"....also under Article IV of the Constituion is the "Full Faith and Credit Act" where a state is supposed to acknowledge the marriage of any couple in another state, etc.* So if someone is married in Mass. (gay people) then it is supposed to be acknowledged elsewhere, and this is currently a big debate right now.* I am proud to say I support gay rights, and gay marriage, I have the ability to open my mind beyond what someone else has told me is "right" or "moral".*

Who are we to speak of morals, no one is completely perfect or moral, and I don't see how being gay is even immoral to begin with, they love the same way everyone else does, and they should be accepted just like everybody else, people who are gay are still people, human beings, entitled to everything else any other human being is entitled to.* I am so sick of everyone passing judgement upon the gay community like they actually have any knowledge about the lifestyle.* I am also sick of people being so afraid of something which they refuse to understand in it's entirety.*

One day, our society will look back at these times much like the way the majority of our society looks back on civil rights....we were basically speaking the same thing about African Americans and other minorities, well now "gays" are the minorities....and one day they too shall come to have the same civil liberties as everyone else.*

Hmm...I've been wondering whether I should weigh in on the abortion issue. I wasn't going to, but everyone here has been so respectful and cool so I figure why not. :)

I see the abortion issue a bit differently than most. I'm pro-life, but for somewhat unusual reasons.

Even though I'm a Catholic, I would oppose any legislation based on religion, because I am a strong supporter of the Establishment Clause.

For me, abortion is about human rights, plain and simple. When a woman becomes pregnant, a being is created, regardless of how small. Something is created that will be a human and deserves the same protections as other humans.

I agree completely that a woman has a right to control her own body. But an embryo (or fetus or whatever you want to call it) is not her body--it's someone else's. A woman has a right to decide whether to have children--but in my opinion when she decides to have sex she's made that choice.

I also think the Supreme Court misread the Constitution completely when they decide Roe v. Wade (and prior privacy cases like Griswold v. Connecticut which led to the holding in Roe.) See, I can't talk about any major issue without bringing up the Constitution--what's wrong with me? :)

That said I still don't have a problem with allowing for exceptions to protect the life of the mother.

Anyway, for me it's not about God, or even morals. It's about human rights. Just thought I'd add in my two cents. I'm psyched to see that everyone here is so cool about respecting everyone else's opinions--

And I totally respect all of yours as well-- :)

theG

We all have different ideas of what a human being actually is.* I've stated mine and I disagree that human tissue is a human being and you have to be born to have citizenship in the U.S. so...err...* :-* for everyone having their own opinion on the issue.* We're all different people.* While I don't understand how potential should be treated as actual, you might not understand why I believe the opposite.

We're also faced with the rape issue.* What if you were raped (or incest) and became pregnant?* You didn't chose to have sex.* So, should rape/incest victims be able to get an abortion?* And what if you can't prove you were raped?* Also, I'm sure there would be some way to lie and say you were raped when you were not and terminate a pregnancy.

Another issue is RU-486.* Abortions in France have been cut by 1/3, I believe, since the morning-after pill was legalized.

I think you need to bring up the Constitution in political discussions.

ETA: It looks like I don't understand that citizens of other countries are protected by the U.S. Constitution while in the U.S., but...err...I do know that.

That's not the same as potential and actual, which is the case with a fetus/embryo and a baby/child/adult.* Apples and oranges.

The idea of aliens who have the same exact values as us is a) not likely as we have no evidence of a place exaclty like earth, thus the organisms on other, inhabitable planets would not be quite like what we have on earth and b) the issue would be controversial as we wouldn't be the same species.* Both sides would consider the other side alien.* Remember when people thought if you weren't white, you weren't superior?* That would definitely be an issue as people still believe certain races are superior to others...

I just went back and re read the thread....

the G you are right that before abortion was made legal women were giving themselves abortions using coat hangers, is that humane, I don't think so. *

And again, just because a woman does not want a child, it is a state of servitude to carry one when the woman does not want to. *That is why abortion is made legal, a woman is entitled to choose what she wants to do with something (potentially, someone) that is growing inside her. *A fetus does not have ideas, ideas are implanted to us after we are born. *It is not nature that determines our state of mind, but nurture. *

Also, there is the seperation of Church and State, one of my personal favorites. *I myself am a religious person, however, religion does not and should not play a part in the laws of America. *Not everyone believes in God, and even those who do, that does not mean they have to believe that those beliefs should be brought in to govern our society. *I don't believe they should, and the whole reason there is a seperation of church and state is because religion would reign like a tyranny over us if there wasn't a seperation. *Religion is also based on the belief of a God...we do not have any factual based evidence to prove there is a God, so it is therefore our belief, our hope that there is one. *How can we let something we truly know nothing about reign over our lives and dictate to those who do not have that belief in God. *

Mallek, I believe Star has said what I've been trying to articulate but have been coming up empty handed:

A fetus does not have ideas, ideas are implanted to us after we are born.* It is not nature that determines our state of mind, but nurture.*

I stand corrected - sadi the man in the orthropedic shoes

Legalised abortion can only be a good thing - coz some woemn will always want (?) an abortion and it is far better to do it in clean proffesional enviroment like a hospital rather than some one house :-\

theG

Which is what I said earlier in the post, Mallek. You can make something illegal, but that's not stopping anyone from doing it.

Yes Mallek, I couldn't agree more, and we should stop giving our own personal agenda in the matter. *If a person is strongly against an abortion (particularly women) they should not be concerned, they will not have an abortion and should feel happy they have made the "right choice" according to themselves (I would assume). *And if another woman wants an abortion, let her have it in a clean and safe manner, it is her decision (like I have stated before) and if it were not broadcasted across the country, no one would even care about it anyway. *How many times during a day do we think about some woman within a mile radius getting an abortion....I know I don't. *

"Kudos to the Supreme Court for ruling it illegal to execute 16 and 17 year olds. I don't have the best relationship with the Supreme Court, words have been sad, naked photos printed... You may remember a few years ago they ruled it unconstitutional to execute the mentally retarded. So... thanks to the Supreme Court for keeping our core fanbase... uh.... alive." -Jon Stewart

Night Night! tell you brain to shut up about politics and mean it!

Varda
03-12-2005, 11:25 PM
ok, im posting in here to get on the topic of politics. After clubbin' all night me and my Grandpa (aka G-unit) crashed with his friends in the Franciscan 3rd order. Twas interesting, there was this pro-life woman who gave a good talk. She showed this tape of when she was on the O'Reilly Factor though, and she didn't bring up that Fox News is faker than the Daily Show, so she got a few points knocked off. I'm gonna stay on the fence with that topic and be hated by both sides, but I don't mind. Then this lady talked about going to Georgia to protest the School of Assasins (or whatever you want to call it). My family wants to go in November and protest. My mom says we aren't going unless I promise not to cross the line. But hey, I'm a rebel, and I'm really pulling for getting my very first arrest at the age of 15. Not sure if they'll put me in prison or not, but if so, I may not be on here much for a few months. Oh, and I'll be highly public about it.

peanutbutter101
03-12-2005, 11:27 PM

Varda
03-12-2005, 11:37 PM
ok bout the abortion.

but have you heard about SOA (or WHISC ::) )? big terrorism school at Ft. Benning, Georgia. So, I'm probably heading there in November.... people who cross the line and go onto the property get arrested, and I'm not sure what happens with the minors. I think they are sent home with their parents, though it sure would be nice to get more than that and be able to give them a piece of my mind.

The so called 'war on terror' is nothing but a front ot make people think that they are doing something about Osama Bin Laden - But they are not it is all about oil - the war on Iraq was about Oil and nothing else - and they will never ever get Osama Bin Laden because his family owns the largest Oil company in the world

I f there was a real war on terror then Tony Blair would have punched Colonel Gadaffi in the face instead of shaking his hand - And we would have declaired war on Eire for harbouring the IRA and Sien Fein
