I found that too. I grew up in wisconsin so I thought it sounded like a familar zip code. The only thing I can think of is that Mark twain grew up in Hannibal Mo,and Mark twain wrote Tom Sawyer. But this is a real stretch, I think if it meant anything they just would have used the zip code for hannibal Mo. unicornspit 05-10-2007, 04:40 PM when typed into my search engine 54439 is a number you can use to order clones of UniGene Rn.54439 Rattus norvegicus Cxcl12 don't quite kown what they are but then do we really know anything. interestingly also in multi map the location is some where on the chapman high way but near by is BOONE creek? again any significance? Is that something they would just hand out to a child? Wow... that is a good question and surprisingly something I didn't think of before! Perhaps Horace gave it to him? Or maybe Ben was just VERY observant? skullfuck 05-14-2007, 02:46 PM I have been reading through many threads but I haven't seen this speculated on or even brought up. Sorry if it has mentioned before. Who may have given little Ben the opening code for the perimetral fence? My guess is it could have been Horace, who is the only adult that showed him some kind of friendship and attention. I think we will see more on Horace later on... Any thoughts? mjm 05-14-2007, 02:49 PM If he was transporting stuff to different hatches his dad probaly told him the code or whoever the person is who gave hhsi father his job. But since the maintenance people need it daily, it couldn't have been too hard for him to sneak it. benster 05-14-2007, 02:52 PM I have been reading through many threads but I haven't seen this speculated on or even brought up. My guess is it could have been Horace, who is the only adult that showed him some kind of friendship and attention. I think we will see more on Horace later on... Any thoughts? I think this could very well become a very important question. I wondered the same thing when he pulled out that piece of paper. Someone had to have given it to him. When you throw in the question "What happened to Annie?" something tells me we haven't seen the last Ben flashback... Lost Lenny 05-15-2007, 09:59 PM ...was 54439. The camera stopped and showed the piece of paper...you know what that means...it's probably a clue. I'll throw it out there for all of the "numbers" folks...can any of you think of what the significance of these numbers are? Barcruz 05-15-2007, 10:02 PM there's already a thread about it with lots of interesting thoughts... Barcruz 05-15-2007, 10:05 PM 54,439 = 7 x 7,777 54,439 = 7 x 7 x 1,111 54,439 = 7 x 7 x 11 x 101 54,439 = 77 x 707 Interesting... remember Enter 77 plutarch 05-15-2007, 11:08 PM Couldn't he have just lifted it from his dad, the "worker"? His dad could have just wrote it down and left it around. coupons 05-16-2007, 06:44 AM Farfetched but it reminded me of 54 40 or fight As president, however, Polk renewed the earlier offer to divide the territory along the 49th parallel, to the dismay of the most ardent advocates of Manifest Destiny. When the British refused the offer, American expansionists responded with slogans such as "The Whole of Oregon or None!" and "Fifty-Four Forty or Fight!", referring to the northern border of the region. The concept of Manifest Destiny has acquired a variety of meanings over the years, and its inherent ambiguity has been part of its power. Because it can mean almost whatever someone wants it to mean, it is readily used by anyone. In the generic political sense, however, it was usually used to refer to the idea that the American government was "destined" to establish uninterrupted political authority across the entire North American continent, from one ocean to the other. wanders01 05-16-2007, 07:22 AM I can see Roger "workman" Linus writing down the code because of the fear he would forget it.. I can see a young Ben...........cleaning up after dad and finding the paper. Did that scene with drunken Dad remind anyone else of Kate and her step-father? Sure reminded me of it. Mr. Find 05-16-2007, 11:10 AM 54439 is the zip code for Hannibal, WI Reverse the numbers and you get 93445. That number is the zip code for Oceano, California. Oceano California anagramed is Oceanic Air, NO of LA. (an abbreviation of "Oceanic Air, North of Los Angeles"). This can mean one of four things: 1.The Losties are somehere on this planet north of Los Angeles (Portland, Oregon area, perhaps?) 2. Oceanic Air was headquartered north of Los Angeles. (yawn) 3. Oceano, California is north of Los Angeles. (Technically, it is more northwest.) 4. Nothing. (drats!) :frown: quantumchaos 05-23-2007, 04:43 AM 54,439 = 7 x 7,777 54,439 = 7 x 7 x 1,111 54,439 = 7 x 7 x 11 x 101 54,439 = 77 x 707 I believe that number 7 along with 77 and 7777 is very important, since 7 x 7777 is 54439 and Enter 77 is the name of an episode. The importance of 7 as a divine, sacred and a religious number in the ancient religions goes back to the times of Pythagoras and even before him. Pythagoreans take 7 as a complete, natural number with 3 + 4 forming the basis of the number. Pythagoras is important in three aspects for the show : 1 - The importance of numbers and their sacred meanings as the basis for numerology studies is attributed to Pythagoreans. "Lost" as a show of "numbers" repeated continuously provides a hidden yet explicable allusion to Pythagoreans. 2 - I don't know how many of us noticed, but Pythagoras and his famous theorem is shown in this episode, in the classroom behind the teacher where there are plenty of Dharma logos. I may not be able to provide with a caption but those of you who take a closer (and slower) look at the classroom scenes will definitely realise a caricature like obviously ancient Greek people with a triangle and a2+b2 = h2. http://www.uploadtr.net/thumbs/791010bscap14.jpg 3 - And in the next episode, for those of you who haven't watched it yet, I would like you to take a very close look on the t-shirt that Charlie is wearing. Just on the top of the t-shirt, close to Charlie's neck, you will see a very tiny but observable star, which is in fact a pentagram. Pentagram is the ultimate symbol for Pythagoreans, since they believe there are 5 forces that the world is made up of : air, water, earth, fire, and aether (sometimes referred to as "idea", with a more ancient word of "hieron" meaning sacred. And Hieron may also sound familiar to you : A shorthened form of Hieronymous, Charlie's middle name perhaps ???) Besides, for Hindu mythology, 7 has a divine meaning symbolising the 7 sages that are represented as 7 stars in "Ursa Major" (or "Big Dipper"). That "Big Dipper" is said to be shown in "The Long Con", when Sayid and Hurley are trying to catch a signal on the radio that Sayid had already fixed. No need to mention the 7 virtues and 7 dedly sins, huh ? It's also said that Atlantis sun into the sea, leavinf 7 small island like formations behind. Hydra of the Greek mythology has 7 heads (Hydra - wasn't that the hatch and the other island?) 7 cornered star (septagram) symbolizes 7 days of the week, 7 planets, 7 alchemical elements - these alchemical elements are : Gold, Silver, Iron, Mercury, Tin, Copper and Lead (and please note that Mercury is symbolised by Caduceus - remember the blast door and the association of Caduceus with the Staff hatch. In fact, Caduceus is the symbol of Mercury, which has been referred to as Azoth by Aleister Crowley and used for the formation of the philopher's stone). How about 7777 ? In the James Bond movie "You Only Live Twice", Bond is not labeled as 007 but instead 7777. The motto of the movie is quite interesting, reminding of Locke's moments with the bodies in the dig : [i]"You only live twice: Once when you are born And once when you look death in the face" A person in this movie is quite familiar because of his surname Tiger Tanaka (like Tricia Tanaka). In the movie, Bond travels to a Japanese island where a secret underground organization has a hidden rocket base in a no longer active volcano. (Volcano ? That sound familiar too !!!) And the "villain" of the movie is Ernst Stavro Blofeld, with a scar just on one of his eyes, resembling very much of Locke's scar when the plane first crashed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Stavro_Blofeld Graham 06-21-2007, 03:34 AM i would have thought the way the 'first' numbers seemed really important, and had us running round looking for them, searching for grids and trying to work out what the heck they meant - only for them to be forgotten during s3, would put us off searching for more. none of the numbers means anything, it's just a layer on the pass the parcel plot. lots of layers are dropped on the floor, as we head to the prize. even hurly has forgotten them |
