In the bible, Jacob tricks his father to get his Older brother's birthright.

Liam gave Charlie his Birthright ring... more odd connections

And the trick? I'm not seeing the connection.

Benjamin's Mother Dies birthing him

All i'm saying is that Biblically revealing.. and its another log on the fire in my brain.

Alot happens on Lost, and alot happens in the Bible. There are going to be alot of similarities, but that doesnt mean theyre big revelations.

It was a beautiful gesture that stands well on its own.
Charlie, as usual, spoke and acted from his heart.
No bible code stuff needed.

The birthrite of the oldest son is an important thing in a lot of cultures- the Biblical story is a great example of it. Intersting that Liam thought he wasn't worthy and the furture he envisioned for Charlie became his.

I think it's a good point the author of the thread is making. There are many intentional Biblical allusions in Lost (ie, they don't exist by happenstance). I hadn't noticed that one, so thanks for pointing it out.

On that morning Liam gave him the ring, Charlie was in the presence of two women, just as he found himself when he came up through the moon pool. And the look on his face, at the sound of the cocking gun, wasn't exactly what I would consider as frightened or negative, any way in the slightest.

I agree that this ring could end up having some larger meaning along those lines.

Really? How would you describe his expression? Do you think he's thinking "menage a trois"?

I think its pretty dumb to ignore so many illusions to a Certain story in the bible when so many allegorical connections are so clearly made

LOST seems to be all about this Jacob person and why on earth would they use SO MUCH of that story if it was just nothing? its just too Coincidental i don't think we should ignore it :)

But really when you look at the biblical story of Jacob and what we see in lost there isn't a great deal in common. Maybe a few vauge and wishy washy themes but nothing obvious or concrete.

If you look into a name enough i'm sure you can find common aspects linking to a great deal of things.

For example Charlie and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
- They both go to a strange and secret place shut off from the rest of the world.
- The leader of this place draws people in to decide if they are "good" or not.
- This place is full of strange technologies.

I don't know if it is "dumb" or not. I just don't think there are going to be any concrete answers to the show found in bible stories. Clearly they are making references here and there, but they do that will all kinds of books. I'm in the camp that finds all of these literally references interesting, but I'm not going and reading every book mentioned or alluded to(except the Illuminatus! Trilogy) with the hope that I'll figure it all out. They reference a new book practially every week. Who's got the time or energy?
