This is the first time we really get a feel for the "Daddy Issues" that all of the LOST characters seem to have. Do you agree?

While this is one of my favorite episodes of any TV show ever, I think Chrisitan was introduced as a Bad Daddy much earlier in White Rabbit. That's the key moment in Jack's life when he tells his young son that he doesn't have what it takes and he should never choose and make decisions because he'll fail. That he should stifle his instincts and shouldn't bother standing up for what is right.

ATBCHDI was a wonderful follow up, but not the intro into the Daddy Issues of Lost. John Terry is absolutely brilliant in both episodes though and in pretty much every scene he's ever been in on the show. I love the Shephards so I'm probably biased.

Good point. But to me the title of the episode really is where you realize Jack is not the only one with "Daddy issues". Now that we've seen what happens to Ben and his dad, I think we're on to a main theme...duh.

Did anyone else see the Soup with Lost's new ad campaign?

I was going to make a thread related to the fact the parental issues in the show are specificly related to fathers.
Name of lostaway: issue

Jack: died of alcoholism

Hurley: absent, only returned when Hurley won the lottery.

Kate: murdered by Kate

Sawyer: was conned by Locke's dad and killed himself and Sawyer's mother.

Locke: conned by his own father and nearly killed by being push out a third floor window, eventually caused his death via Sawyer

Ben: gassed by Ben, blamed Ben for mother's death in child birth.

Jin: ashamed of his impoverished upbringing and claimed he was dead.

Sun: Tries to ignore father's dirty dealings and organised crime connections, he also forced Jin to do his dirty work in return for marriage to Sun.

Desmond: Don't remember his dad being mentioned but he does have issues with Penny's dad not thinking him worthy of her.

Claire: Didn't know her father, Aaron's father ran out on her on finding out she was pregnant.

Charlie: Unknown

Ana Lucia: Unknown

Eko: Unknown

Juliet: Unknown.

Sayid: Unknown.

Michael: no known issue with his father but did release Ben Linus from the Swan, commit 2 murders, and help in 4 kidnappings in exchange for his son and a way off the island.

Did I miss anyone or anything

Eko: Unknown

Eko had issues with God, or "Father", maybe?

Issues in the whole forgivness/confession/priest business.

There's that weird dream-sequence thing that Charlie has in season 2 where his mum's getting him to play the piano and his dad makes a cameo... chopping up a doll or something weird? I got the sense that his dad was a butcher or knackerman by trade and didn't think his sons' messing about with music was going to amount to anything. I may not be remembering that right...

Des' dad was only mentioned once, I believe. In FBYE, when Mr. Widmore mentions that Desmond didn't finish university, Desmond said "No sir, I had to drop out to take care of my brothers after my dad-" and then he was cut off. So we don't really know what happened with his father.

Big possibility that her father is Christian Sheppard
