View Full Version : Kate's Choice
HappyHippo 05-20-2007, 01:07 PM After watching this show, I really need to offer this as my conclusion to the Kate mystery on the island.
When Ben has his lunch date with Kate on the beach (remember the table, the nice food, his politeness) I belive that what he asked Kate to do was to become pregnant.
He gave her the choice of Jack or Sawyer, and a two week parameter to accomplish this. Loving Jack, she chooses Sawyer, as she would know that meaningless sex under pressure would destroy whatever relationship that she may have with Jack later(maybe including that they would take the baby). She is making the noble choice. Ben is in fact startled that she chooses Sawyer, and he makes a stament (forgot what it was exactly) that he is surprised by her choice. If you think about it, Ben was handling this very unusual request in a dignified manner, bringing her to the beach, privacy, nice view.
When they made the remark about Kate not choosing Jack but choosing who to sleep with...ahhhh.
Kate is pregnant because Ben made her do it, and she knows the outcome will not be good. If it happens "during conception" they have all the info they need, as they observed them from the beginning.
EyePatch 05-20-2007, 03:58 PM Very nice observation! I agree with you. And that would explain why they bring the three of them and not just Jack for the surgery.
freckles_tr 05-20-2007, 05:17 PM This also crossed my head. That nice lunch had to have something to do with it all. Kate was played/fooled or convinced / manipulated into doing something like getting pregnant or being a test subject.
After all Ben is the master of using peoples EMOTIONS to get things done around the island!
EyePatch 05-20-2007, 09:49 PM Or Ben threatened Kate to kill one of them if she wouldn't agree.
maeby 05-20-2007, 09:55 PM Interesting idea. Although I have to say I wouldn't be a fan of it, not because I'm a Skater but because I want the love triangle to be over with already, lol. But the idea of Ben forcing her to choose a father for her child is very intriguing.
Although if he was making that offer... you'd think he would supply them with a private room of some sort. If she has sex with Sawyer it's in a cage; if it's with Jack it's in a room with a glass wall, and both of them have cameras. Ben's such a perv. :o

Much to my SKater chagrin...
I agree (and have said the same since the beginning). I wonder what was offered in exchange for this?
I also think that ultimately... )as the Marshall has stated since day one) no matter how she makes you feel dont trust her.
So maybe somehow the tables will spin back on Ben.
SCgirl 05-21-2007, 01:10 PM Very interesting thought. I really hope they eventually show the conversation that took place between Kate and Ben.

LOL, I agree.
I don't know what to think of the theory here. I've rejected the idea of a breakfast conversation, a missing piece to the triangle puzzle  in the past but it does make plausible sense.
The only thing is, I don't like it. The idea of a pregnancy storyline in the triangle bores me to tears.
allergygal 05-21-2007, 01:47 PM Its an interesting theory, but I don't think Ben would have let her choose. A more likely scenario would have been Ben telling her that if she didn't sleep with Sawyer, they would kill Jack. And then later telling her that if she didn't convince Jack to perform the surgery, they'd kill Sawyer. That would have made her the ultimate pawn in the triangle -- having to manipulate the 2 men that she cares about (and that care about her) so Ben could get his tumor removed and hopefully another pregnant woman for their fertility research.
This would fall inline with Kate's whole backstory of doing things and using people for what she thought were good reasons... killing her father for her mother, getting Tom killed visiting her dying mother, robbing a bank to get the sentimental toy plane, drugging her husband to prevent him from having to turn her in.
It would make sense that if they wanted Kate and Sawyer to sleep together, they could have simply put them in a nice room together for all that time instead of cages. But Sawyer seems like the type of guy who wants what he can't have (at least until the changes he's gone through recently). So you set them up in cages opposite each other, doing hard labor every day, etc. so that he is so drawn to her that he'd be willing to take a beating jsut for a kiss. Then, of course, they also manipulated Sawyer and Jack with Kate -- telling Sawyer they'd put a pacemaker in her if he didn't behave, and letting Jack see Kate and Sawyer together.
Going back to the idea of Kate being pregnant... I'm betting she isn't. I think her negative pregnancy test in "I Do" was a hint that she can't get pregnant.
FunkyFemale 05-21-2007, 03:19 PM I see what you mean by hinting kate can't get prego but the island has the whole fertility thing goin on so I bet she can get pregnant.
edeewildwild 05-23-2007, 03:12 PM She can BUT maybe since she couldn't (maybe) before the Island, the conditions are 'ripe' for getting to a near normal term?
