View Full Version : The 'others control it now???????
elfdream 03-06-2005, 05:18 PM I've seen this quoted on several posts.
Posters have stated that Danielle said 'the others' now control the radio tower at the black rock.
When did she say this? I just re-watched it and I didn't hear it anywhere.... ??? ??? ??? Was it during 'Solitary'? ??? ???
WhiteSapphire 03-06-2005, 05:18 PM I don't have it on tape, but I remember her telling this to Sayid in 'Solitary' when he asked her about it.
From the excellent transcript site LBL mentioned:*
SAYID:* What is this place?* Those batteries -- they wouldn't be able to produce
enough power to transmit your distress call all these years.
DANIELLE ROUSSEAU:* Broadcasts from somewhere else.* But they control it now.
(She walks around the mesh to stand next to the bed as she looks down at Sayid.)*
SAYID:* They?
DANIELLE ROUSSEAU:* You.* And the others like you.
elfdream 03-06-2005, 05:57 PM Thank you. I was starting to think I was living in an alternate universe or something...
If she has never seen the 'others' how does she know they control the transmissions?
WhiteSapphire 03-06-2005, 06:12 PM Maybe she tried to go back ad they blocked the way.
Or maybe she heard it in the whispers.
Did she say for sure that she's never seen the Others?
elfdream 03-06-2005, 06:20 PM I think Sayid asked her if she had ever seen them and she said no, but she had heard them whisper.
Feel free to correct me.
Nope, you're right according to the transcripts:
SAYID:* Your distress signal -- the message I heard -- you said, "It killed them
all."
(She stands up and takes a couple steps away from Sayid.)*
DANIELLE ROUSSEAU:* We were coming back from the Black Rock.* (She turns
around.)* It was them.* They were the carriers.
SAYID:* Who were the carriers?
DANIELLE ROUSSEAU:* The others.
SAYID:* (not following)* What others?* What is the Black Rock?* Have you seen
other people on this island?
DANIELLE ROUSSEAU:* No.* But I hear them.* Out there in the jungle.* They
whisper.*
elfdream 03-06-2005, 10:10 PM Ok.. can anyone link to Danielle's transmission and give the correct translation?
It's Danielle who's problematic to me -- her story just isn't hanging together. *Did she fire the rifle off because she thought Hurley was one of the Others, or did she fire it off so that she'd be alone with Hurley? *What was that bridge all about? *Why did she bomb her camp and linger in the area anyway?
If she recorded a message saying she would try to get to the black rock, and then got to it and changed the message, (already pretty convoluted -- why waste recording time on that if she wasn't going to STAY on the black rock, that information would only be useful if she were arranging for a pickup)....why that message? *If everyone was already dead, why the stuff about Brennan and the key, and why not identify "it"? *
If she changed the message 16 years and five months ago, how did Tom and Lenny hear it 16 years ago?
If she changed it more recently, why doesn't she know how much time has gone by? *She managed to salvage rifles, hypodermics, a music box, paper, pencils, a bed, bombs, batteries and light bulbs but she neglected to grab a watch or a clock? *Or if nothing else (being that she's a scientist and all) couldn't she have made a calendar? *She managed to map out the island but didn't bother with a calendar?
And three days out of Tahiti her science expedition heard the numbers, headed towards the island, lost navigation or instruments or whatever they lost, and a storm blew up and wrecked them on the island anyway? *
And as elfdream noted, how does she know the Others control the radio tower?
She was always just too convenient to me. *Too easy to find, too easy to find again, too well-equipped (where's she getting the new bullets?), too deliberately vague (even for THIS show), and just a little too darn healthy for somebody who has been stranded alone for 16 years. *
But I know I'm alone in this, so I'll just go mutter to myself now. * * Darn it, she's dubious! *Dubious I tell you!
You're right, she probably didn't build the bridge.*
As I posted before - I am not convinced that her original distress message was the one heard by Sayid et. al. I think itwas altered by one of the Others
But why would they alter her message?* Why not put back the numbers, or erase it, or put in a different message that might lure in more victims, like "olly olly oxenfree..."* Why just tinker around with what she recorded?*
For all we know she's been there only a year or two, but the counter was the thing that was not re-set. All we know is that the counter has been counting for 16 plus years. That's not the same as the message.
I don't think she's been there for 16 years either, but I also think she's well aware of that fact.
There are times when I have no clue what day it is. Ever since I became a Stay-At-Home-Mom, time just blends together...
But I bet if you were stranded on an island and your child was missing, you'd keep track of how old they were.* You'd want to be able to recognize them if you ever saw them again.* (But I kind of know what you mean, because I tend to keep track of what day it is by what TV show is on.* *)
...interesting to note, the lostaway's plane had similar trouble only in the air = loss of radio turbulence etc...
But they weren't anywhere near the island when they lost radar, according to the pilot.* (Do you ever wonder if he was even really heading for L.A. in the first place?)
Well anyway, it will be interesting to see if anyone else treks out to Danielle's camp for answers.*
elfdream 03-07-2005, 07:18 AM Perhaps she made it back there.
I
And then what? She says she hasn't 'seen't them. Did she go back and hear them whisper all around her? Did some kind of force stop her? Did they leave clues? How would she KNOW?
And what woudl the 'others' need with a radio tower?
WhiteSapphire 03-07-2005, 07:22 AM I don't think Danielle confuses me as much as the Others. I mean, she's just really confused and has been driven crazy. She's just trying to survive.
It's the Others that are all-powerful but don't want to be idenitified. It's the Others that have driven Danielle crazy.

Or she could be one of the Others, and the distress signal is deliberate -- when people find her they'll assume she's the French woman.* And* this way the Others can communicate with the Lostaways without giving away anything about themselves.* For all we know, they stop broadcasting the numbers long enough for people to hear her message, and then resume the numbers once someone has taken the bait.
 thanks Bess.*
A completely different thing that occurred to me -- maybe that wasn't really Danielle's camp in the first place, since they mainly identified it by the photo of Nadia.* I think.* Anyway, that would also explain why she destroyed it but hung around in the vicinity -- it was never her camp in the first place.
patch410 03-07-2005, 06:03 PM SAYID: A science team armed with rifles. Was Robert on the team?
But it was Danielle's team's camp (from Solitary):
(As he asks her questions, Sayid opens the music box.)
DANIELLE ROUSSEAU: Yes.
SAYID: And Alex -- was he, too?
DANIELLE ROUSSEAU: Our vessel was three days out of Tahiti when our instruments
malfunctioned. It was night. The storm ... the sounds ... the ship slammed
into rocks, ran aground, the hull breached beyond repair. So ... we made camp.
Dug out this temporary shelter. Temporary. Nearly two months we survived here.
Two months before --
What I meant was, the camp Sayid was in in Solitary might not be the camp he saw in Numbers.* *That might have been a decoy camp, blown up on purpose so that there wouldn't be anything left to identify it as a decoy, with the photo of Nadia placed there so that he reaches the natural conclusion that Danielle blew up her own camp.* (He didn't really know where it was, after all, and none of the others had ever seen it.* Only Sayid would be able to remember what it looked like and what was in it.)
Zoriah 03-07-2005, 07:41 PM That first quote of Danielle's makes it seem as though she sees anyone on the island (like Sayid) as potentially an 'Other' right? Potential carriers? Of the sickness? and she implied they had control of the transmission - lumping the 815'ers in her 'other' statement.
And the 2nd quote is interesting : about how she's never actually seen the others. Just heard them whispering in the jungle - like some of the survivors have. But haven't the whispers (and Jack's weird sightings in White Rabbit) - been directly linked with the specific survivor's own past experiences? Jack = dad, Sawyer=shrimp guy, Sayid=Something in arabic....Could the same thing have happened to the original team before she killed them all assuming they were 'infected'. She hears them too though so it is possible she wants to stay to contain the 'sickness'.
Maybe those going on about mind control and thought manifestations are heading in the right direction. Especially with Walt's special mind powers in the mix.
Nacho 03-07-2005, 08:58 PM theirs just something about Danielle...i dont trust her... and who built the bridge... and why do they even need a bridge!?!? apparently hurley and charlie were on the opposite side of the bridge than jack and sayed... but through running he got there fairly quickly... i do think their is a time lapse but... why the bridge there? is that the most direct path between tho places? what tho places... and the wire goes underground... where too? OK going off topic now!lol...
its just that the crazy french lady never tells the truth...not that i would just spill my heart out to some random people but its just odd. maby she did make the broadcast 16 years ago but the others found her and adjusted her memory but somewhere in there she remembered the black rock and the radio tower and changing the message, she doesnt remember how long ago that was because the others have modified her memory.(i like the theory that the others can do that because its just too convenient that both Claire and charlie wouldnt remember anything) ok... going to stop now
