Did naomi actually say she is knew penny or was working for penny? Or did we and Des just assume since she has the pic of them? If naomi is lying, then their implied rescue at the end of the finale, may not be their accual rescue. Maybe naomi and her people were not trying to rescue anyone as Ben said. Alot may have happened between the end of the finale and the losties rescue that is worthy of flashback.

I've been thinking the same thing. I could have sworn she said Desmond but I don't remember what she said about Penny or anything else for that matter.....

I think I heard her say Desmond. Cause I remember Charlie being his witty self saying she said his name so he should talk to her or something, or Desmond should go get the help because she said his name. :confused:

Never thought about this - she said Desmond's name, but never confirmed his suspicions as to how she knew him, at least onscreen. How would she be with them for several days, and Des hasn't asked her about Penny??? And if he has, then she must have lied about it, which has all kinds of interesting implications.

I just read the transcript from Lostpedia (great website by the way). She said that her company was hired by Penny Whitemore to look for Desmond and was given coordinates to find him in the middle of the ocean...

Naomi said that she was working for Penelope Widmore, but had never met her. Add in the fact that she had a photo of Penny with Desmond, not to mention Penny's statement that she didn't know who Naomi was, and there are some inconsistencies with this part of the story.

It's hard to say if Naomi is being deliberately dishonest, or if she was also being strung along with minimal information.

My guess is she was some kind of mercenary (possibly career criminal) who was given a once in a lifetime opportunity by working for the Widmores. Charles Widmore and his organization realized that Penny's attempts to find Desmond corresponded with their attemps to find the Island, so Charles piggybacked his daughter's research, and discovered the location of the EMP event. He dispatched Naomi and co to those coordinates with a picture of Desmond. Find Desmond, find the Island. Any "rescue" was secondary to finding the Island. Apparently, Penny was clueless as to what was really going on.

I agree with that last part. Naomi was told that she was working for Penny and didn't actually know what was going on, so technically she wasnt lying

If she was hired to find Desmond, she obviously thought her task was finished the minute she met him.

In the final scenes, Naomi is trekking off through the island and her assignment, Desmond, has paddled off into the ocean on what could be a suicide mission.

Maybe they should have added 'Oh and make sure he stays alive' to her mission briefing :rolleyes:
