lostfan88 03-07-2005, 05:22 PM :lol2: when I first read this thread's title I thought it said, "I see your bag of chips." ???
I voted for soldiers, teachers, and those who work in medicine. I personally want to become a nurse so that I can help others.

Apparently we have something in common. I voted for the same three catagories.
lostfan88 03-07-2005, 05:29 PM Haha that's funny. I picked those categories because several of my family members are/were in those professions.
Danny 03-07-2005, 08:52 PM 1. Soldier related
2. Inventors
3. Firemen/Policemen/Medical etc.
The White Lady 03-07-2005, 10:55 PM 1. Teachers
2. Inventors
3. Anyone who really seriously benefits man- and critter-kind
Almost voted for soldiers, etc, but could only choose three. Also, bit unsure about that one as not *all* soldiers etc are good. But the good ones deserve and have admiration and respect.

1- anyone who really benefits mankind
2- fireman, policeman etc
3- teachers
Okay the first person's name that came to mind was Princess Di, only label I'd give her would be humanitarian with maybe a selfless in front of it.
Varda 03-08-2005, 12:29 AM people who benefit humankind, soldiers, and medical profession people
sifichick 03-08-2005, 01:14 AM 1. Teachers

3. Anyone who really seriously benefits man- and critter-kind

I find it funny that no one has voted for actors, king, queen, or polititions.
BurningStar4 03-08-2005, 02:15 AM I voted

I have always been lost as to why people like Princess Di so much - I mean what did she do exactly ???
BurningStar4 03-08-2005, 03:55 AM I'm not really sure....I think she helped a lot for the fight against AIDS and stuff....
Mallek 03-08-2005, 03:58 AM I'm not really sure....I think she helped a lot for the fight against AIDS and stuff....
John Hurt did more - I thought she had a charity for clearing landminds in the third world or something - but even so what ever charities she put her name to she never put her hand in her pocket or actualy helped any physicaly - the people who work for her charities are the real Heroes not her
BurningStar4 03-08-2005, 04:04 AM Well I really don't know, I just always remember seeing her with the AIDS pin on. Her death was very traggic and sad and I believe she became more "known" following the circumstances of her death. But I think the main thing was that she did not grow up in a "King/Queen" environment much like Prince Charles....so she identified with the "commoners" more I believe. Like I said, I don't know much about her.

I think the commoners identified with her more than she did with them - just because of what happend between her and HRH Prince Charles
BurningStar4 03-08-2005, 04:09 AM Probably...I don't know I was very young when she died....around Prince Harry's age, maybe a year older, so I don't remember much of her life at all.
Mallek 03-08-2005, 04:11 AM I would just like to say that BurningStar4 is All That and A Bag of Chips
BurningStar4 03-08-2005, 04:15 AM :lol2: You didn't have to tell me something I already knew ::) :P
Thank you Mallek :) I must say you are also all that and a bag of chips.....well that's actually what I thought you were going to say about yourself when I clicked on this topic, but I was wrong :P
Hiram 03-08-2005, 05:39 AM Well I would like to say that I'm all Princess Di was all that and a bag of chips! She was
actually very helpful in the causes she backed. The Fight to Rid Nations of unexploded Land mines
for example. There are literally millions of land mines scattered across former war zones of the
world and no maps to show where they were placed. Soldiers didn't worry about that kind of thing
when they were fighting for their lives. Unfortunately now children every day are being killed and
maimed by accidentally setting off these unexploded mines. Thousands of children. This is just
one of the causes Princess Di brought to the publics attention. Who heard of it before she brought it up?
Sure it was just her fame and name that did it, but the video of her out there on the scene in full gear
at a land mine site is what people remember.
Just like when she held that AIDS patients hand. Suddenly the walls came down and it was OK
to touch people with AIDS because Princess Di did it. I exaggerate for effect, but I'm not far off.
Man sometimes I get started . . .
BurningStar4 03-08-2005, 01:17 PM Very good Hiram, I actually now remember Princess Di in the full gear at a land mine site, vaguely. I wasn't aware of the whole land mine situation though. Thanks for the piece :)
lostfan88 03-08-2005, 06:10 PM I admire Mother Theresa too. My religion class at school recently watched a movie about her mission work.
bearlover2 03-08-2005, 07:31 PM Princess Di actually did a lot of charity work - with AIDS and leprosy patients, she didn't stand back she shook hands with them when many people were afraid to touch them. One of her main things was safeguarding children and she did a lot of work towards banning landmines. I guess one thing that stands out to me is she never seemed to take on the air of royalty - that she was above the 'common' people, I think she was more at home, comfortable with the average person than she was with the royal family. I think she was a special person and her death is the world's loss. Just my opinion.
Mallek 03-09-2005, 09:30 AM I admire Mother Theresa too. My religion class at school recently watched a movie about her mission work.
I think she is a saint now - St Theresa - well desevred I think
Ophelia 03-09-2005, 09:40 AM I admire myself....I am so awesome ;D
Watership Down 03-09-2005, 11:56 AM ;D
I'm not a big admirer of politicians, but there are a few who deserve recognition like Shirley Chisholm the 1st black female US Representative and Jimmy Carter for his humanitarian work.
lostfan88 03-10-2005, 03:46 PM I think she is a saint now - St Theresa - well desevred I think
She's on her way to becoming a saint. She's been blessed so now she's known as Mother Theresa. I go to a Catholic HS so I've learned soo much about it. We just spent 8 weeks on the Vatican II documents. :o That's some dry material...
Mallek 03-12-2005, 03:24 AM What are the Vatican II documents ???
lostfan88 03-12-2005, 01:03 PM Basically, it's about 140 pages worth of reforms in the liturgy, way to have laypeople participate more, the "mystery" of the Church, Mary, and the Church working within the world.
I admire Drew Goddard, Jane Espenson, and Joss Whedon for being brilliant and being the *singing* wind beneath my wings!
Bonny 03-12-2005, 01:26 PM I voted for Kings because they have the hardest job in the world.
CapnHuFlungDu 03-12-2005, 04:42 PM I voted anyone who benefits mankind, because they deserve admiration for helping to make this world a better place to live in. But also actors and actressed because they are so darn good looking. ;)
fanofangel 03-12-2005, 10:15 PM I voted Soldiers...Teachers....Anyone who benefits mankind.
But next on my list is:
4. Hubby and teen spawn and family
5. Rob Thomas
6. Tom Selleck
7. Kevin Costner
8. Brad Pitt
9. Robert Redford
10.George Clooney
and the list goes on and on and on
Mallek 03-13-2005, 03:49 AM I admire Drew Goddard, Jane Espenson, and Joss Whedon for being brilliant and being the *singing* wind beneath my wings!

Mallek 03-14-2005, 04:10 PM You're wife is chocy bickie, isn't she, Mallek?
