Are we ever going to find out what Libby's story was? Why was she in Hurley's institution? Why did she give Desmond the boat?
Are these plot threads going to be, ahem, Lost?

Apparently we're going to find out more in Season 4 through the flashbacks of other characters. I'm looking forward to this as Libby was my favourite Season 2 character after Shannon died. Then Libby went and bit the dust as well (and both died by being shot).

I have heard that we'll hear more of Libby's story. Hopefully we will, she was nice and I want to know exactly why she was in the institution (although I just kind of guessed it was maybe some sort of reaction to her husbands death)
As for why she gave Desmond the boat - wasn't that explained anyway?
She said to Desmond her husband would have liked him to take it so maybe he would've and/or it's something Libby felt she needed to let go off, no point in keeping it sorta thing.

i am so glad to find this board and this discussion. i begun to think i was the only one wondering about her.
she was quite interesting and i was dissapointed nothing was said or shown about her in season 3.
gotta say she spooked me abit when we saw her in Hurley's institution. but i am so looking forword to learn more about her :)

There is still a lot to learn from her. From what TPTB have said,
we will learn about Libby from a character not yet introduced. Now, they said this at the beginning of Season 3, so I was thinking of Naomi, but obviously she can't be that character. I'm hoping we'll meet this person during Season 4.
I just can't wait to see her again. There are so many unanswered questions surrounding her character:
Why was she in Sydney?
What happeneed to her husband, David?
Why was she in the mental hospital?
I just hope they don't solve her mystery by mentioning her in passing or something weird like that...

Sure, that's a satisfactory explanation, and I could see TPTB leaving it at that. Sort of like, with all the discussion of the plane crash, the final answer was "Desmond didn't push the button, so the plane crashed." Still, I'd love to learn that there was more to it than that. For instance, the above explanation works perfectly well for the question "Why did Libby give her boat away?" But there might be more in answer to "Why did Libby give her boat to Desmond?" Perhaps that wasn't pure coincidence or just plain fate.

I think fate is involved - Libby gave her boat to Desmond, who then caused the plane crash that brought her to the island. Maybe Libby knows something that the Losties and we don't.
Also, in the latest issue of Lost Magazine, it hints that Libby was not looking at Hurley in the mental institute, but instead she was looking at Dave.

I agree, I hope her story gives her more than just a one scene flashback in an episode. I hope its more than just one episode.
The why she was in Sydney story is something I hope is dealt with.

I wonder what that means. If Dave is not real, how could she seem him.
