View Full Version : Lessons / Trends in the Deaths of the Losties?

1. Boone dies having released himself of his burdens relating to his relationship with Shannon. He dies content, if not happy, after an anguishing injury and Jack's attempts to save him.

2. Shannon dies having found someone (Sayid) who loves her for who she is. She dies in Sayid's arms, happier in her life (prior to the shooting) than she had been in a long time.

3. Ana Lucia dies after having conquored one of her demons. She dies suddenly, but seemingly content (for her).

4. Libby dies having found someone (Hurley) to love. She dies suddenly, but happy, a far cry from the mental institution she was in with Hurley.

5. NOW, Charlie dies, having reconciled with Claire and seeing Aaron as his own son. He willingly dies, sacrificing his life to allow Claire to be rescued, and finally to save the others from "NOT PENNY's BOAT." He dies contented, a noble death.

Of course, Nikki and Paulo do not follow this trend and die an awful death, buried alive. They showed themselves to have learned nothing from the Island...and were unredeemable. Eko dies via Smokey (though he seemed to be on the path of redemption). One wonders what the Pilot did to warrant his death via Smokey...

Are there any messages given to us in how the various Losties have died? I am trying to piece this together. Please help...

Nikki was still unredeemable, but I think Paolo was beginning to see the error of his ways. I think what he did, he did for her and was realizing that she was just using him in the end.
Man, I know a lot of people didn't like it, but I thought that was an awesome episode. It was soooo disturbing. I'm waiting for those diamonds to come back in to play.

I'm with you on that. The whole being buried alive thing was so chilling. I can understand people's dislike of Nikki & Paolo but their "exit" from the show was well done.

What about Joanna and Steve or is it because we really dont know much if at all about them and what about Colleen, Danny, Goodwin, Ethan and Tom or do they not count because they are others

What about Arzt then?

What about Arzt then?

Arzt definitely fits the redemption pattern. It was hard for him to demonstrate physical courage (he even fled the Black Rock expedition after the "This is where Montand lost his arm" speech), but in the end he showed a great deal of courage (even if he also showed a terminal level of carelessness). We saw from his "Redshirts' Lament" speech that he resented the "cool people," but then he came forward, took the initiative to interact with them and help them. We don't know much about Arzt, but what we do know shows he was working on his redemption. I think he comes off pretty well.
