View Full Version : Your favorite Ben scenes
JeremyBender 06-25-2007, 02:33 PM I posted this over in Ships at Henry's Hatch, but I thought it would make a good topic to bat around during the endless hiatus. Let's hear of your Ben Love!
I watched the Ben-related bits of The Man Behind the Curtain and Through the Looking Glass again this past weekend and there's a couple of scenes that are among my very favorite ever on the show:
* When Young Ben first goes to the sonar fence, after Roger bitterly tells him that he's stuck on the Island with him, the way the Whispers immediately start up is way cool. Here's the transcript, courtesy of the fabulous RVT and Penyours (and JennyLee):

I love how when Ben stops, looks up and then looks down, you hear those spooky harps in the music and Mom is...there. "It's not time yet, Benjamin". Love that.
* Young Ben meets Richard. What an awesome scene, from Young Ben going through the jungle, using his bunny to test that the sonar fence is truly off, to as soon as he enters the jungle the Whispers go nuts and especially that whole scene with Richard. "I don't want to go back there! I hate it there. Take me with you". I noticed how after Richard says his "Maybe, maybe that can happen" thing, Ben smiles slightly at him and at the idea of having to be very, very patient, Young Ben's face just takes on this hard, unfeeling look. *shudder* It's clear that Benjamin Linus will have no problem being patient. Right, Roger Linus?
* The scene where Mikhail runs in to camp, yelling for Ben. Ben walks out and calmly says "I thought you were dead". The way Michael says that, and the subsequent "Where have you been, MIkhail?" are just perfect, so deadpan.
From other eppies:
* Ben and Alex, resting on their way to Ben delivering Alex to her "new family". "I didn't want him to get you pregnant". Tee hee!
* "I guess I'm out of the bookclub". I loved when the backstory of that prime bit of Ben snark got revealed.
* The kitchen scene that caused ^^^, maybe the best Ben scene ever, along with the one with John at the DHARMA Pit of Death.
* Chest hair, in general.
-calypso- 06-26-2007, 07:08 AM * Ben and Alex, resting on their way to Ben delivering Alex to her "new family". "I didn't want him to get you pregnant". Tee hee!
* The kitchen scene that caused ^^^, maybe the best Ben scene ever
I agree with these two!
And i add:
*When Ben said "you guys got any milk" and all the scene where he explains what he would do if he were one of them....brilliant!
*When Ben presents himself to Jack and want to shake his hand.
*When Ben denies being ill in front of Jack, "i don't know what you're talking about" just great!
*When Ben talks to Sawyer at the end of "Everyman for himself"
*When Ben 'invites' Jack to the funeral, i love the way he respond to jack "then don't say no!"
*When Annie wishes Ben a happy birthday after giving him the doll...so cute.
JeremyBender 06-26-2007, 02:07 PM *When Ben presents himself to Jack and want to shake his handWell, despite the lie of being born on the Island :), I love the way Michael says "My name is Benjamin Linus and I've lived on this Island all my life". Nice music there, too.*When Ben talks to Sawyer at the end of "Everyman for himself" Well, I'd say that whole sequence from the time that we see Ben, James, Matthew (RIP) and Jason (RIP) hiking > "You're heart isn't going to explode, James" > BUNNY! > James' punch > reaching the top and James seeing the main Island is just amazing. Michael is way hot during all that --love that natural light-- so that's a bonus. :D*When Annie wishes Ben a happy birthday after giving him the doll...so cute.Oh yes, very nice, especially since Ben's "Thank you" is the first time we hear Young Ben speak. *SIGH* Annie.
Some more:
* the whole scene from the time he gets off the boat at the Pala Ferry dock until he says to Jack, Kate & James "You're coming home with us". After the low point he was as Henry Gale, to see him so confident and in control was fantastic
* "A plane fell out of the sky, Mikhail, of course we saw it". Hahaha. Love me some Ben snark
* seeing Alex in the OR, the way he sees her and sort of collapses down on the gurney, out of relief (?)
* In the wheelchair while Alex goes to get the backpack, just looking at pictures of Alex
* "I know you, John Locke"
LostKitty 06-26-2007, 02:18 PM * "A plane fell out of the sky, Mikhail, of course we saw it". Hahaha. Love me some Ben snark
Haha, also when he's walking up to the house and he's yelling out "Mikhail, I'm walking up to the house with Juliet! Don't shoot us." :D
-calypso- 06-26-2007, 03:17 PM * In the wheelchair while Alex goes to get the backpack, just looking at pictures of Alex
* "I know you, John Locke"
In the same episode i love when he said to jack "you don't knock?!!"
DeLaIsland 06-26-2007, 08:30 PM In the same episode i love when he said to jack "you don't knock?!!"
Haha. I remember chuckling when he said that. Ben is an awesome character, definitely one of my favorites.
JeremyBender 06-27-2007, 02:30 PM Haha. I remember chuckling when he said that. Ben is an awesome character, definitely one of my favoritesI love how Ben, who can help kill over 40 people in a single day, has this sense of manners about him. For example, after he tells Jack that "history is about to repeat itself, right here, right now", he asks for his walkie back: he says "please", bows his head a little, says "thank you" and...then pretends to have Sayid, Jin and Bernard shot.
LostKitty 06-27-2007, 04:28 PM he asks for his walkie back: he says "please", bows his head a little, says "thank you" and...then pretends to have Sayid, Jin and Bernard shot.
:24: Well, when you put it that way...
Holz0311 06-27-2007, 04:40 PM My 3 all time favourites (that i can think of right now):
Have you guys got milk?
In 'A tale of two cities' when Kate asks what if she doesn't put the handcuffs on n he replys Then you don't get any coffee.
In 'Every man for himself' when he kicks Sawyer's butt (sorry Sawyer fans) but he did try and electracute him so fair enough really.I'v just thought of more but i'll be here forever ... ok another favourite in 'The Man from Tallahassee' when he says 'No John we don't have a code for there's a man in my wardrobe with a gun to my daughter's head ... but we obviously should'.
I love Ben he's so funny and yet so serious i just don't know how to take him.
Also JeremyBender i think he actually wanted Jin, Bernard and Sayid killed but they didn't do as they were told because i remember Tom saying we should have killed them like Ben said, or have i missed something?
LostKitty 06-27-2007, 04:49 PM No, Tom said that they should have gone against Ben's orders and killed them anyway.
Holz0311 06-27-2007, 04:56 PM Ooooh right thanks LostKitty, so Ben didn't want them dead, good plan really, even if it ment him getting beaten to a pulp (again) poor bloke he does take a few beatings just for the sake of communicating with the survivors i.e. Henry Gale and Sayid.

Diesels Blitz 07-01-2007, 11:24 PM I love all of Ben's scenes, but that's no fun. I'll try and post some of my favorite:
*The scene at the end of the season 2 finale, when they are on the dock.
*The scene where Ben is sitting in his chair and Tom is standing and asks if they should leave Shephard in the room with dead Colleen.
*The scene where Ben and Juliet and walking toward The Flame and Ben says "Don't shoot us."
*The scene at the end of "The Man Behind the Curtain" where Ben shoots Locke.
*Just about every scene that includes Ben from "Through the Looking Glass," especially the scene where he gives Jack one minute to hand over the walkie talkie. "I'm not bluffing!"
Those are just some of my favorite scenes. We should start a favorite quote thread for Ben. You can find some of those in my signature. Yeah, I copied off Jeremy Bender.

That was great! I thought I was the only one that appreciated his manners.
-calypso- 07-02-2007, 04:31 AM *The scene where Ben and Juliet and walking toward The Flame and Ben says "Don't shoot us."
Oh yeah, this one is great! The way he said it! Brilliant! Michael Emerson is just wonderfull! lol
That was great! I thought I was the only one that appreciated his manners.
oh no i love his manners too! That's part of his personnality! And i love his personality.
JeremyBender 07-05-2007, 02:19 PM In 'A tale of two cities' when Kate asks what if she doesn't put the handcuffs on n he replys Then you don't get any coffee.Hahaha, I love how Ben totally throws her off with that line. I love that whole scene, from when Kate first recognizes Ben sitting under the veranda to the look on Kate's face after Ben says "Because Kate, the next two weeks are going to be very unpleasant". Ah, come on, they weren't that bad. :D I love the way Ben is just munching on his crispy bacon --I prefer my non-crispy, though-- like he was going to open up the Sunday New York Times and discuss the local real estate market with her or something.Ooooh right thanks LostKitty, so Ben didn't want them dead, good plan really, even if it meant him getting beaten to a pulp (again) poor bloke he does take a few beatings just for the sake of communicating with the survivors i.e. Henry Gale and Sayid. That's one of the very biggest questions I have about LOST: why didn't Ben and The Others just go to the Losties after the crash and say "We're here, you're here, here's what we can do to help each other". Much as I love Ben, he's brought some of those faces bruises on himself.*The scene where Ben is sitting in his chair and Tom is standing and asks if they should leave Shephard in the room with dead Colleen.Ooohhh, creepy glasses-wearing Ben. :yikes: *The scene at the end of "The Man Behind the Curtain" where Ben shoots LockeI'd add: the whole scene that precedes that, from Ben taking Annie's wooden doll with him > going to the Mesa with Pops Linus > "For as long as I remember, I've had to put up with you" > walking through the bushes to see all the bodies > "No, leave him out there". The music from when Ben comes through the bushes to the final LOST is *amazing*. It starts out very simply, just some basic piano chords, but after Ben closes Horace's eyes, the music merges beautifully with the sound of The Hostiles feet as they come in. Then there's that gong-like sound that transitions from The Purge to The Pit. Brilliant, utterly brilliant stuff from Michael Giacchino.*Just about every scene that includes Ben from "Through the Looking Glass," especially the scene where he gives Jack one minute to hand over the walkie talkie. "I'm not bluffing!""Alex, this is your mother" [collapses] Oh yes, tons of great stuff in Through the Looking Glass:
* Apologizing to Mikhail for not trusting him, then echoing John's "clean up your mess thing" from Boone, telling Mikhail that he needed the Russian's help to "clean up this mess I've made".
* "I'm delivering you to your new family". Wow.
* "History is about to repeat itself, right here, right now".
* "This is the beginning of the end!"
Those are just some of my favorite scenes. We should start a favorite quote thread for Ben. You can find some of those in my signature. Yeah, I copied off Jeremy Bender. Ah, thanks. I've had to amend some of mine--the "I'm not a liar, Juliet" one especially didn't work any more. :biggrin:oh no i love his manners too! That's part of his personality! And i love his personalityI love Ben's personality too, the whole "helped killed 40 + people in a single day" thing aside. :D I love how Ben can be really brutal and the next moment turn around and be very stiff and formal and almost prissy about how people interact.
I'm going to watch the Ben-related stuff from season 2 from the DVD's this weekend, I'll have more to add after that, I'm sure. :)
Distress Signal 07-05-2007, 07:32 PM I still prefer season 2 imposter Ben (or rather Henry Gale), so all my absolute favorite scenes with him come from that.
First of all, best Emerson scene ever IMO:
"Hurting me isn't gonna bring her back!"
I especially love his delivery of this line-
"An other whhat??" -- Ahh, Ben, Ben. The first time watching he made me want to doubt that he was an enemy at all.
Other awesome moments:
- EEVIL face in SOS, when Locke was banging on the door asking if he really didn't press the button. Purely priceless.
-being interrogated yet again by Sayid, this time his hands tied up near the ceiling looking like a disturbed crucifixion. " I'm not a bad person!! "
-basically all of Lockdown
-shooting Locke
-"For as long as I can remember, I have had to put up with you."
-"This is Jacob. Aren't you going to say hello John?"
Oddly enough, it seems apparent that basically all my favorite scenes with Ben are not deadpan or aloof moments.
Holz0311 07-06-2007, 08:13 AM Yeah he was good as Henry Gale great acting by Michael Emerson and Ben Linus (pretending to be Henry) but i found Henry very weak, although when i watched it i 100% believed he was innocent and felt really sorry for him, then one of my most 'in amazment' scenes was when we found out he was the other's leader, i did not see that coming at all.
I prefer Ben to Henry though more powerful and the personality really comes out better, also refering to Distress Signal's last reply about 'Lockdown' once again i believed he didn't press the button, he's just a really believeable character even though we've leant it's not so good to believe him as he's very manipulative.

Lobby 07-06-2007, 11:53 PM I love how Ben, who can help kill over 40 people in a single day, has this sense of manners about him. For example, after he tells Jack that "history is about to repeat itself, right here, right now", he asks for his walkie back: he says "please", bows his head a little, says "thank you" and...then pretends to have Sayid, Jin and Bernard shot.
Ben is many things but impolite he is not. Beaten and bloody he even introduces Alex to Danielle. Loved the hand gesture he made. To me it said "such that she is". And the way he whispered "Alex" just broke my heart. How can people not love him? EM said that earlier in the season a speech was cut where he refers to Danielle as sleeping in ditches. No love lost there. Still wonder why he didn't rename Alex.
I love that little head bow Ben does whenever he's being polite too. Does that come from working for Dharma? Was it written into the script or is it part of Michael's creation of the character?
