I think one of the best scenes in this episode is the flashback with Liam at Christmas when Charlie is given the ring.
To have Liam saying to Charlie that the ring is to be carried on in the family. That Charlie will settle down get married, be respectable and have kids...whereas Liam predicts himself to "be lucky to live to see 30".
It is foreshadowing, and Liam is right, that is how things turn out...he just put the wrong fate to the wrong brother. He moves on to family life while it is Charlie who does not live to see 30.

I know, it's a very sad irony. It really reinforces the theme that Liam stole everything from Charlie...his money, his music, his possessions, his life...
