*adopts best old geezer voice* Look at all these young whippersnappers. It wasn't like this back in my day with the internet and message boards, your fancy iPods and streaming media. I was born in the 1960's when music was music, you played it on a phonograph, you listened to your pocket transistor and watched Batman on your 13" black and white TV. It was good enough for us! We loved it!
*ahem* Welcome to The Council of Elders, the group for Lost fans age 35 and over. You know who you are, so come and join. You remember eight track tapes, Donny and Marie, leg warmers, pong, Schoolhouse Rock. Maybe you watched the Monkees when it first aired, maybe you saw it when it reran on weekday afternoons when you came home from school. Either way, there's a place for us here!
So if you sometimes fret because you feel older than the combined age of every PB&J shipper on Lost Forum, you pull your hair out (or what's left of it) when someone says 'Cheech who?', then this is where you need to be.
Please state your age and then wear it proudly! :)

CrazyLatin007 09-24-2007, 10:14 AM Oh, I love shiny new threads!
ame en peine 09-24-2007, 10:19 AM Welcome to the new thread all!
Nice... Wow - third one..
We elders sure are chatty..
Lost_in_DeLandFla 09-24-2007, 10:23 AM A new thread, like a new box of crayons...irresistble!
myothercarisflight815 09-24-2007, 10:24 AM :sp_ike: hee hee
<--- is mortified that she is older than Johnnywishbone.
lost and found 09-24-2007, 11:03 AM Mmmmm, Mmmmm.
This thread has that 'new car' smell!
So fresh!
Guinevere 09-24-2007, 11:15 AM Morning all and we get a new thread. I resisted replying last night so that my answer wasn't the last one in the thread. Sure seems roomy on this new thread, huh? :)
I'm not as draggy today so maybe the good wishes sent my way are working some. Thanks so much!
We have two cats who rule the house. One is an American Red tabby who, when he wants something, looks like Puss-in-Boots in Shrek - at least his eyes do. His name is Midas. He talks to us and can tell time. He knows exactly when noon, 5:00 are (he'll knock you down getting in the house) and when it's time to come in for the night (that when he tries to disappear). He adopted us last fall. The other is Ginger, who we thought was a female until the vet was preparing to spay "her" and found that procedure wouldn't be necessary and so neutered him instead. My son found him on the side of the street and brought him to me a few weeks after Midas adopted us. We calculate that he was about 2 or 3 weeks old. Now, he's larger and fatter than Midas and tries to open doors by turning the knob with his paws. Neither of them have been around children and when children come over, they hide either in my room or my son's room. :hide:
Since I'm feeling a little better, I am hoping to get a little yard work done. At least one chore would be nice and help me feel like I've accomplished something.
Happy Fall, Ya'll!
Save The Humans 09-24-2007, 11:36 AM :band:
Well, we're movin' on up

Yeah, we're movin' on up

To thread three,
A whole new place for chattering!

Guinevere 09-24-2007, 11:49 AM Yum! Pie and cake, STH and a new song!
Movin' on up...
ame en peine 09-24-2007, 12:07 PM Nice song, STH... I'll be humming that all day.. Mmmmm.. blueberry pie..
I'd like to christen the new thread like George and Mary did in "It's A Wonderful Life"..
Salt - that this thread may have always have flavor...
Bread - that we Elders never know hunger (not a problem, I'm thinking..)
Wine - that joy and prosperity may reign forever..
Let the bacchanalia begin! (oops, wrong thread..)
CrazyLatin007 09-24-2007, 12:13 PM You guys and your blueberries. We don't get them here, not even canned or frozen. We get strawberrys, blackberries, raspberries, cherries.... but no blueberries...
So, everytime you mention them, I crave them!!!
pacejunkie 09-24-2007, 12:17 PM Hey, there's snacks in here. Much better than the old thread. *sniff* Yeah, it does smell nice, almost as nice as the fall.
So does anyone else here love the fall as much as me? The colours, the leaves, the spices, the apples, the cool crisp air and the hooded sweatshirts. Warm cider and pumpkins. Aahhh...
As some of you may know we have a Jewish holiday that starts this week called Sukkot. It involves building a temporary shelter (a sukkah) in your yard and eating all your meals out there for a week. Some people even sleep in theirs. It's the perfect time of the year for the holiday because barring rain the weather is usually so beautiful that it's become the holiday I look forward to more than any other. I'll sit out there and have my morning tea, read the mail or a book and at night we have lights and all have dinner in there together. You say special prayers inside it every day. It's lovely. It's supposed to be a reminder of the Israelites who lived in the desert for 40 years in tents after they left Egypt. I call it Jewish camping. ;)
I don't know what it is about this thread but I feel chattier. Maybe it's because the pressure is off now and I don't feel like I have to read twenty pages back to catch up on what everyone is talking about! It's a fresh start.
Guinevere 09-24-2007, 12:52 PM Fall is my favorite season too, Pace! The cooler temps, the crispness in the air, the falling leaves, the dreary days of rain when you have an excuse not to do a danged thing, the first soup, chili & chicken & dumplings of the season, football, and it used to mean the first episode of the new season of Lost :drowsy: but I digress. I fell in love in autumn and married in autumn and now I'm wondering if I'm entering the autumn of my life. If so, that should mean that it will be the best time of my life. :67: :69: :kicking:
I think I like Jewish camping more than regular camping! I had never heard of Sukkot but it does seem like a wonderful way to remember the wandering Israelites and how in our lives we may not be wandering in a real desert but we can all be wandering in a desert of of our own making - sometimes even for 40 years!
Save The Humans 09-24-2007, 12:54 PM :wavey:, pace!!
Yeah, the Jewish student group at the university here puts up a sukkah every year. I think it's really kewl. First your new year (Rosh Hashanah), then your day of atonement (Yom Kippur), then Sukkot. Times of celebration, repentance, and remembrance. Wonderful.
I guess the Christian (well, Catholic) equivalent would be Marti Gras (that's right, folks, it actually started out as a religious thing!), followed by Lent (atonement and sacrifice) and Easter. But it's not quite the same.
Of course, any faith's special days depends on the perspective and respect you bring to it! Yours seems to be on the right track, pace. Have a wonderful Sukkot!
myothercarisflight815 09-24-2007, 12:56 PM Yay for the autumn and a fresh start!!! Autumn is my favorite time of year.
I woke up this morning feeling oddly anxious. So I'm trying to beat that at the moment. :) I think it's because I need to clean the house. And I don't want to.
You can have my share of blueberries CL... I don't like them.
What does bacchanalia mean?
<--- has been looking up rum cake recipes and realized that Johnny is older than her husband... :lol2: Is no longer mortified.

Yeah, my husband and daughter are thrilled that it's football season. I also forgot about comfort foods -- I love chicken and dumplings, and also beef stew and homemade soups....okay I need to stop now.

That's true. It really gets you back with nature and away from all those things that usually tie you down in the physical world (like my computer  ).
:wavey:, pace!!

That's cool, and you've summed it up really well. One of things I love is the order of the holidays, how we go from a very solemn and serious occasion like the Day of Atonement right into the joy and hands on fun of Sukkot with nary a break. It's a great reminder that life is full of ups and downs and that things always cycle in the end. I feel like singing, "to everything there is a season..."
I woke up this morning feeling oddly anxious. So I'm trying to beat that at the moment. :) I think it's because I need to clean the house. And I don't want to.
I know that feeling. A walk in the fresh air might clear the cobwebs though. :)
You can have my share of blueberries CL... I don't like them.
Mine too, yuck... (sends blueberries to CL)
myothercarisflight815 09-24-2007, 01:58 PM I know that feeling. A walk in the fresh air might clear the cobwebs though. :)
That is a *lovely* idea!
It's cool and foggy! I'm going *right now*!!!!
Guinevere 09-24-2007, 02:11 PM A bacchinalia is a part, MOC. You know, wine, women (or men) and song and where we all party like we don't need hip replacements or arthroscopic knee surgery.
Way back in the day, before the 4 toe statue, bacchinalias were a religious fertility ritual where the participants would eventually become firenzied by all the dancing and drinking. It could become quite vicious but I don't think we have to worry about that here. ;)
We'll just be havin' a good time.
Save The Humans 09-24-2007, 02:18 PM I feel like singing, "to everything there is a season..."
:band:
To everything
Turn, turn, turn,
There is a season,
Turn, turn, turn!
And a time to every purpose under heaven.
There!
Guinevere 09-24-2007, 02:29 PM Now tthat song will be in my head for the rest of the day, STH! I love the song though so I guess it's not too bad but it sure crowds out the other voices in my head. ;)
Save The Humans 09-24-2007, 04:47 PM Guess it depends on what the other voices are telling you. . . .:71:
Guinevere 09-24-2007, 05:15 PM Well, right now, they're all singing, "To everything turn, turn, turn"... in harmony! So, it's all good at the moment.
ame en peine 09-24-2007, 05:54 PM So does anyone else here love the fall as much as me? The colours, the leaves, the spices, the apples, the cool crisp air and the hooded sweatshirts. Warm cider and pumpkins. Aahhh... When you said hooded sweatshirts, pj, I can't help but picture Charlie's Hoodie..
I never really liked fall too much until recently.. I think saying goodbye to summer and anticipating winter kind of ruined it for me.. But somewhere along the way my appreciation of the fall has grown..
It's such a beautiful time here... The mountains are laid with an autumnal patchwork but it's still pretty warm most days.. I love going to the apple orchard and finding yet another way to cook apples... (thank goodness my family likes my cooking..) The coastal towns are less crowded... Bar Harbor / Acadia is a magical place to hike in the fall.. and who said it's time to make chili and soup for the big games? Now we're talkin'.... Love making both..
It's supposed to be a reminder of the Israelites who lived in the desert for 40 years in tents after they left Egypt. I call it Jewish camping. ;)
What a lovely holiday and tradition pj.. Jewish camping - you're too much.. ;)
I don't know what it is about this thread but I feel chattier. Maybe it's because the pressure is off now and I don't feel like I have to read twenty pages back to catch up on what everyone is talking about! It's a fresh start. Tabula rasa... Well it's good to "see" you again ...
I fell in love in autumn and married in autumn and now I'm wondering if I'm entering the autumn of my life. If so, that should mean that it will be the best time of my life. That's so lovely..
I woke up this morning feeling oddly anxious. So I'm trying to beat that at the moment. :) I think it's because I need to clean the house. And I don't want to. Hope you've shaken that feeling off..
I just went shopping & to the grocery store.. Pretty seedy guy behind me at checkout had:
(2) 12-packs of beer
(4) blank video tapes
(1) bottle baby oil
Creep -o- rama.
pacejunkie 09-24-2007, 06:46 PM When you said hooded sweatshirts, pj, I can't help but picture Charlie's Hoodie..
I do look forward to cold weather so I can wear my hoodies again. I have so many I live in them, and a navy blue LL Bean one that's my favourite. *snuggles*

I would imagine your fall is all too brief up there. Beautiful, yet brief.

Ew. :eek2:
myothercarisflight815 09-24-2007, 07:14 PM Hope you've shaken that feeling off..
Yes thanks! I went for that walk... wound up finding two slugs in my garden so I threw then onto my neighbors property next door.
It's just woods.
<--- wearing a grey fuzzy zipper hoodie
goddessblue 09-24-2007, 08:07 PM Eek! It's been a while since this elder has posted in the elder's thread! So long that I've gained a year, having had a birthday in June.
Been a summer of craziness and change. Lemmie see.....drove cross country at the end of June with a 7 and 9 year old to relocate from CA to IN. My cousin flew out to help me drive back. I grew up in IN, and am now back in the fold. My almost-ex flew from CA to IN with the youngest (now 4) and the kids and I are pretty settled now.
Signed my d-i-v-o-r-c-e papers last week. Should be final soon!
For the first time in my life, I'm on my own. Independent. And I have to say that I love it!! I've proved something to myself over the past year and a half, two years. I'm definitely stronger than I ever knew I was!!!
:sp_ike: hee hee
<--- is mortified that she is older than Johnnywishbone.
:24: me too....why do you think i call him boy-toy?
Tugwilly 09-24-2007, 08:33 PM Speaking of a new box of crayons,I was at a friends house this morning and she had 6 brand new boxes of 64 crayons. She is using them in a workshop she is giving, but there they were 6 boxes, sitting on the table, the kind with its very own sharpener. We were supposed to be scheduling something, I was supposed to be paying attention, but cripes, they were just sitting there,in full view, untouched :w00t: every point pefect. Oh, goodness,my 3rd grade fantasy come true.
ame en peine 09-24-2007, 08:45 PM Goddessblue, my fellow Dead-head.. I'm so happy that you're spreading your wings and flying on your own.. Turn up "Ripple" and do a dance - I've got bells on my toes and am dancing for/with you..
... and if you go..
no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone..
(Johnny's younger than us?? Dang....)
I would imagine your fall is all too brief up there. Beautiful, yet brief. *shudders at reminder of winter*... Yes.. fall is brief, at least to what I'm used to on Long Island.. Snow usually flies by Halloween or so... But my mantra is "live in the moment" (aka -in denial)
Lost In Deland.... (from other thread).. I'm so glad you're going to get your art piece.. The watercolor of the kids must be spectacular.. Good to know I have friends scattered about as well.. We're a cozy bunch here - I like it.... I know what you mean about seeing everyone here as a hybrid of real names, usernames, and icons... I'm thinkin' STH doesn't look like Desmond, and CL don't look like Jack.. If so, I'm referring them to an electrolysis specialist - STAT!
I love the pet stories.. Frankie the scared cat... CL's baby-luvin puppy... Tug's "pups"... Arrinieor's cats....

thanks ame....and, funny....that's my location over at F&S...."poised for flight, wings spread bright"
(and...how else do you think he keeps up with me???.......:24:)
ame en peine 09-24-2007, 11:58 PM Tugwilly.. that must have taken a lot of self control.. So.... did you break into the crayons?
thanks ame....and, funny....that's my location over at F&S...."poised for flight, wings spread bright" :biggrin:That is funny... Your dancing bear emits that vibe I guess.. ;)
(and...how else do you think he keeps up with me???..... ..:24:)he he he... good one, goddess...
Tugwilly 09-25-2007, 01:05 AM AME No, they're still there ( bummer ), but I can't believe how much I still LOVE crayons.
I never really appreciated Fall when we lived in Rochester mostly because it meant winter was on the way. It's too bad too cuz it was goreous there, Guess it's Fall here. Only made it to 86 today
lost and found 09-25-2007, 02:09 AM Well, of course, Spring has 'sprung' in my neck of the woods. It's great to look out of my window and see the 'birth' of new life: flowers, animals, etc.
Spring here also signals the start of Melbournes' social season, most importantly being the Spring Horse Racing Carnival, culminating in the 'race that stops a nation', The Melbourne Cup. Although I'm not 'into' horse racing, it is an oppurtunity to put on a fancy suit and head down to the track and socialise.
Spring also means that the big, nasty, Huntsman spiders aren't that far away either, but let's not go there (I am arachnophobic to the nth degree).:fear3: :scared: :yikes:
On a side note, I have noticed Christmas decorations in stores in the last week. Does it get earlier every year, or is it just me?:xmas:
Guinevere 09-25-2007, 02:41 AM It's the same here in the States, lost & found, with the Christmas decorations. I wish they would at least wait until after Halloween but they didn't ask me.
lost and found 09-25-2007, 02:50 AM Halloween is becoming more popular here, Guinevere, and I was thinking the same thing, get Halloween out of the way first. I mean, Christmas is still 3 months away!
Guinevere 09-25-2007, 03:26 AM Halloween's become a really big deal here in the States too, l&f, for some reason. I don't know if it's because we baby boomers don't want to let go a piece of our childhood or what. When I was a kid (I cannot even believe I'm starting a sentence like that!), the kids dressed up and went trick or treating. Now, adults have to buy home decor to go with the holiday, they get dressed up in costumes (thank God they don't come to my house trick or treating) and the majority of the kids here can't go trick or treating because it isn't safe in a lot of areas. In the small town where I live, kids still get to do that and they have a carnival on the square. I love getting to see the little kids dressed like pumpkins or ghosts and whatever. I'm sure there were some adult costume parties back in the 60s and 70s but my parents and my friends' parents didn't go. They were busy driivng their kids around to the good trick or treating spots! ;)
Pretty soon, there will be Christmas and Halloween decorations year round in the department stores.
I think it's time for me to go to bed. I'm sounding like a curmudgeoness. "Night all!
justluvit 09-25-2007, 07:43 AM Hey L&F I noticed the christmas decorations too...way too soon for me...although I do look forward to my holiday at Noosa with my sons from Boxing day to 2nd January....so chrissy decorations means that is fast approaching.....
How about the Horse flu going round in Aussieland...bad in Sydney....I noticed on the news that they are keeping all the melbourne horses safe and away at present...wonder if it will effect the Melbourne Cup
I love spring...the weather is perfect here in QLD
Save The Humans 09-25-2007, 08:12 AM I just went shopping & to the grocery store.. Pretty seedy guy behind me at checkout had:

Talk about No Explanation Needed! :sneaky2:
I'm thinkin' STH doesn't look like Desmond
No one could be that lucky, least of all, me!! :D
On a side note, I have noticed Christmas decorations in stores in the last week. Does it get earlier every year, or is it just me?
There were Christmas cards out in one store in July.
It's not just you. . . .
Tugwilly 09-25-2007, 08:19 AM HEY DeLand, How is the spider situation in FL? I am ok with them. If I find them in the house I generally just catch and release, except the Black Widows which I stomp, but Mr Tug has serious issues. Just want to know how busy I am going to be.
I haven't really noticed any Christmas stuff, altho I haven't been out of the house much, packing you know. The Walgreens, across the street is SO prepared for Halloween you can't take more than 6 steps w/o setting off some motion sensitive decoration.
pacejunkie 09-25-2007, 09:08 AM Eek! It's been a while since this elder has posted in the elder's thread! So long that I've gained a year, having had a birthday in June.
That reminds me -- I didn't update my own birthday either. Fixed yours and mine. A happy belated one to you. ;)

Ooo nice. To me, it's the colours that attract me. I love all the colours. Mmmm....
And spiders? No thanks. Though the nastiest things we get in the house around here are centipedes. They're about six inches long with so many legs they look like hair and they move so fast across the floor it's like they're flying. They scurry back under the moulding before you can stamp them out. lost and found 09-25-2007, 09:46 AM How about the Horse flu going round in Aussieland...bad in Sydney....I noticed on the news that they are keeping all the melbourne horses safe and away at present...wonder if it will effect the Melbourne Cup
I love spring...the weather is perfect here in QLD
Apparently the 'Equine Flu' has hit Qld in a pretty bad way, and here in Melbourne, it has been announced that we don't have enough vaccine for the Spring Racing Carnival, but I am sure it will go ahead as there are too many gambling $$$'s to lose otherwise.
HEY DeLand, How is the spider situation in FL? I am ok with them. If I find them in the house I generally just catch and release, except the Black Widows which I stomp, but Mr Tug has serious issues. Just want to know how busy I am going to be.
I'm with Mr Tug here. Can't stand the hairy buggers. I can't bring myself to catch and release, they must be exterminated. If I put them outside, I keep thinking that they will find their way back in, and I can't have that.
Tugwilly 09-25-2007, 10:23 AM I really am ok with spiders, don't know why. Now any member of the rodent family just willies me out beyond belief. When we lived in the San Diego area we had these spiders called Orb Weavers. They made the most exquisit webs, and fast. Depending on the angle of the sun you very often couldn't see the webs. At least once a week I would hear this howl from Mr T. He continued to walk into them even tho he knew they tended to spin in this one particular area. He really does have a huge issue w/ them. If I notice a spider anywhere near him I have to be very gentle about the way I let him know, unless, of course, I am feeling particularly :dgrin: then I just scream spider
CrazyLatin007 09-25-2007, 10:51 AM I can't stand roaches. Anything else, I'm fine with, but roaches just almost paralyze me. My whole body gets sor of agigated, and I get this emptiness at the pit of my stomach.... I hate them!
If I have to, I'll kill them myself, but I generally ask other people to do it for me. We are next door to public land with wild vegetation, which is nice to look at, but brings in the insects. I'm so obssessed with not letting the roaches in my house that my apartment is the only one with screened windows (did I mention roaches down here fly?).

You, Tugwilly, are pure evil. I have, in the past, been known to hyperventilate and pass out from having that trick played on me.

That is what happens to me with spiders. My whole body just freezes up. Thank goodness I have not had one creeping on my body.....yet. Touch wood.
Save The Humans 09-25-2007, 11:42 AM I rarely see spiders. But I see the webs, on a regular basis. Grrrrrrr!
I HATE roaches. And those winged creatures that look like horseflies, but aren't. And those gnat/nit bugs that gather, and die, on the glass plate beneath my kitchen lights. And mosquitos, whose normal bites are horrid, but they now carry West Nile Virus, so I can't even be outside anymore, and. . . .
I HATE BUGS!
(Except for Bugs Bunny. I  Bugs Bunny! )

ps....STH, Bugs Bunny Rules! :bunny:
lost and found 09-25-2007, 11:55 AM Bugs aside, some fellow elders are aware that I am a huge fan of Kylie Minogue. Well, her Cancer treatment has been sucessful, and she is due to release her new single and album in November. But, some of her songs have 'leaked' on the net, including a song that hasn't made the album. Personally I love it. It is called 'In The Mood For Love'. Here is the link to the song, http://www.myspace.com/mylo .Just look to your right, and click on the song.
I would love to know my Elders opinions.

I don't blame you. I could never live in New York City because roaches are a part of daily life. They're less common here in suburbia. And I can't believe that more people don't have window screens when such as thing as flying roaches exist. I couldn't live without window screens. How do you keep birds out of your house?
I HATE roaches. And those winged creatures that look like horseflies, but aren't.
Do you mean dragonflies? Or cicadas? Cicadas are big and nasty like large locusts.

ame en peine 09-25-2007, 02:55 PM Didn't we all sign a "No More Discussing Spiders and Squid Tacos" contract a while back? I'll have to go through my filing cabinet and find that.. :reading:
(I HATE SPIDERS!!)
I'm headed to New York City tomorrow so I won't be posting for a while.. Hoping I see any roaches whatsoever...
The Iranian president is in NYC causing quite a stir... Awesome. Massive gridlock thru the city and protests at the United Nations building.... And we're staying a block or two from... tada!.. the United Nations building. I'm sending vibes his way to exit the city immediately (along with all the other roaches...)
Johnny's going to stop taking it easy on goddessblue? I'm now worried for her. And yet.. I want to switch places with her.

Massive gridlock thru the city
As if NYC didn't have massive gridlock on a normal day! ;)
Part of the territory, ame. Right now, though, I don't think ol' Mahmoud is causing half the stir that the Myanmar junta would if THEY showed up that the UN! (Those monks are the bravest souls on Earth, IMHO!)

Try and stay out of trouble. I always wish people like that would wake up one day and see reason. Life's too short to hate.
StickMang 09-25-2007, 05:06 PM My son has a mortal fear of most bugs, though I admit that I share his fear (though I try to mask it so as not to make it worse for him). I presume that it came from witnessing my brother go into shoc & go to the hospital over a bee sting.
Of course, bee allergy cannot be reliably tested, nor pre-prescribed, so I am not prescribed an epi pen, and must continue my fear...which oft is detrimental to outdoor activities.

Oooo, me too CL! I hate to see them, think of them, step on them--they crunch. I loathe them!! They fly here too--we call them Palmetto Bugs-:eek2: Ewwwwww!!
Tugs--spiders don't bother me much. Like you, I think their webs are beautiful outside--if they are in my house they must die--they bite my kids, and my kids have awful insect allergies! We do have wolf spiders, big honking things that jump, Mr. T would be beside himself. We also have banana spiders, they are huge, weave really ornate webs. Unfortunately we have black widows too!

So Lost and Found--I guess that Shelob scene in LOTR wasn't one of your favorites. On one of the discs there was a bit about Peter Jackson being deathly afraid of some spider that burrows underground, he used to find them in his garden when he was a kid. It is what they based Shelob on--is this the spider that leaves you faint?
I'm running on empty today....Mr. DeLand was out of town last night, I got to bed around 2:30--the idiot cat woke me at 3:30 rattling the door to get in --GIT! At 4:00 my son wakes me with a fever, he starts vomiting at 7:30! I've been up forever. I have to drive for an hour and a half to go get my husband this evening.....this one car deal is getting OLD!! I need a new van now! If I wanted to be a taxi driver I'd live in NYC! Temper tantrum over!:hypocrit:
I'm making coconut, strawberry, pineapple sorbet for the kids tonight! My son says he needs sorbet to get better! Oy vey! I didn't even know what sorbet was when I was a kid. I told my little guy he couldn't have dairy today, that he was on the BRAT diet--he got a wounded look on his face and said, "Mommy, I'm not a brat.." :rotflmao2: He looks so cute with his little pink feverish cheeks. I should drag him up to Sears to get his picture taken..."Now son, let me take your bucket for a minute, now smile!" .....hee hee hee....I'm punchy! Actually he's doing fine now, almost back to normal. He hasn't been sick since early this morning, so I'm pretty sure it was only a quick stomach flu. I just hope the girls don't get it!

Tugwilly 09-25-2007, 07:38 PM OMG DeLand, Please tell me the those BIG spider guys aren't allowed west of Tallahassee. I think I will be keeping this little bit of info from Mr. T or maybe I should warn him, let him prepare himself. I don't know... I am sooooo confused.
STH your suggestion for The elders tag line :roflmao:I think I will make that my personal mantra. Did you see the interview Diane Sawyer did w/the Prez of Iran? He is a very creepy guy. I do agree with you about the Myanmarian (?) monks. I think they should officially change the name of the country to Myanmar Formerly Known As Burma since that seems to be the way every news outlet here refers to it.
I got some medication for the beasties in case they don't handle the car trip well. The Vet recommended I do a trial run since the dosage is "flexible" Give them the minimal dose to see how it affects them. I'm feeling a little badly. 2 of them just went to sleep, which actually has been quite helpful since with each passing day they get more freaked out, but Wlson has just been standing around staring at some non existant spot on the wall. Kind of doing this :43: with his eyes.
Must go practice my spider technique:hammer:
Save The Humans 09-25-2007, 07:39 PM I'm going to have an elder moment here, please:
What's with this "cake debate" thing and the "I need sorbet" bit? Why, when I was a kid, I was happy to get ANY cake on my birthday. When I was sick, I got aspirin and castor oil and maybe applesauce. Sorbet? I didn't even get store brand ice cream! Kids today--they're a bunch of spoiled brats!
End of elder moment. ;)
The truth is, I was a spoiled rotten brat as a kid. But what I said about the cake and when I was sick? All true. Looking back on all my SRB days, I now have the adult view of "why did they let us get away with that?" The answer is, of course, parents love their kids. Parents also get worn down by whining and pouting and give the kids what they want just to shut 'em up! :D
I wouldn't want to be a parent, always debating whether I spoiled them too much or didn't give them enough. Whether I spent enough time with them, or too much time. Whether I should let them be in front of the TV/Computer/Gameboy so much, or if it's OK. Whether I should time-out them or whup their bottoms. Etc, etc, etc.
You have my admiration, moms and dads. I could NEVER have done it!

That is a great idea! I made a birthday cake for my sweetie a couple of years ago and it was HORRIBLE!!! It tasted like I forgot to put sugar in it. I have backed away from making her birthday cake ever since... but now we live in a place that doesn't have a bakery not even in the grocery store... so... you know... I want it to be good.
I think my "problem" is that I can made grown-up cakes... tortes... cheesecakes... etc... but fluffy kid cakes with buttercream don't turn out quite right.
I also can make baklava... eclairs... all sorts of pastry... but can't manage a decent chocolate chip cookie.

But I swear, sometimes my normal cakes aren't great..
Part of the problem is that people's palates are used to Betty Crocker, which is filled with chemicals and modified food starches.. So I usually make something up for special desserts so that no one can tell what it's supposed to taste like..

Hee, hee, hee, you're funny tonight...dreading tomorrow are you? You sound a little testy.
The truth about parents and sick kids is thus, we tend to take their good health for granted. They are always bopping around, running, playing, getting into trouble, giving kisses, making messes, but when they are truly sick, 102-103 degree fever, vomiting, pale, just laying around, you feel so helpless. You realize that a few hours can mean the difference between bustling good health and losing your child forever. It sounds melodramatic, but it's true. You will do anything to try to comfort them and make them feel better. The BRAT diet is, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast...boring, but easy to keep down. So when your feverish baby says that cool sweet sorbet (which is dairy free, smart chick) will help his throat feel better (that throat which burns from throwing up for hours) you get your kid sorbet!
You know how I feel about computer, gameboy, TV, video games, etc...none for my kids! This is one thing I know I'm doing right!

The differences between North Florida and Central are incredible, so there might not be big honking spiders up there. Awww, Mang, don't apologize. I think it must be a man thing. My husband doesn't care about grey hair--I threaten to put Grecian formula into his shampoo. He says that as long as he still has hair, he could care less what color it is. I think it's the old "Men look distinguished when they get grey" vs the "Women look like hags when they go grey" Case in point...George and Barbara Bush.

The highlighted word is an Italian dance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarantela)

Yet, the thought of my friend finding a group of nutsy Itlalians dancing down her hall (probably my Mother's family) makes me laugh so hard I find myself gasping for breath! I'm thinking that sight would be way more scary than a furry spider.
CL--I just re-read your post...please explain how you laugh your behind out. I want to try this, my behind is much too big! :rotflmao2: I am SO tired, but I do crack myself up!
Me too with the caffine--I had to drink a cup of the sweet french vanilla stuff they sell at convenience stores a few hours ago--so I could stay awake while picking up Mr. DeLand. I'm tired, but buzzing too!
You know MOC, your child would probably love a homemade ice cream cake. My grammy used to make them. You can buy one of those pound cakes, cut it up into slices and put it on a baking sheet, let the ice cream melt a little, smoosh it all over the cake, freeze then frost with a thin layer of frosting and write happy birthday--no baking and tastes great!
CrazyLatin007 09-26-2007, 12:57 AM OMG! and here I was correcting you!!! How hilarious is that?

Silly girl, you weren't correcting me, you were pointing out something funny! I'm ALWAYS up for a laugh! What is incredible is the fact that English is not your native language, you speak/write better than most college graduates in the States. I shudder to think what I would be saying if I were writing in Spanish--trust me, it would be much worse than using the word "out" instead of "off."
My girls had Spanish today--I had to skip because of my little barfing boy. As I picked them up, we were talking, (en espaņol) and we passed a fish tank near one of the classrooms. I said "Mirrar los pescado. Me gusta le azul." My kids (even my 7 year old,) said, (en espaņol)Mom--mirrar is not the correct tense, pescado is the kind of fish you serve for dinner--pez is the word you want to use and it is el azul not le azul.... I'm trying, but I lapse into french a lot, and I have a lot of learning to do! It's amazing how quickly my kids are learning though! My nickname in our Spanish class is Seņora Tardes--does that tell you something about me???

First of all, thank you on the English comment. I have two theories about that, none of them involve my being too bright:
In a past life hundreds of years ago, I lived in an English speaking country
My grammar education in Spanish was very thorough and the importance of proper sentence construction and vocabulary was highlighted early on. So, I applied the same principles when I learned English. I learned that if you don't write well (and speak well), your intelligence is questioned, so I always did my best to use Spanish properly and that just flowed into my English. You shouldn't feel bad about your Spanish, though; I had several things going for me that helped me to learn faster and better, not the least of which was having to live in the US, in Columbia, SC, where no one ever spoke Spanish. I also slept with the TV on so my subconscious would capture the words. Also, I love to read and there was nothing I could read in Spanish in SC, so I had to buy reading materials in English. It was really total immersion, my eyes and ears were bombarded with English and I had to speak it if I wanted to communicate... Necessity is the mother of invention, right?
When I first went to the US, I knew a little English (enough to order food and ask for the little girl's room), some that I learned in school but most of it came from translating songs (The Beatles were a favorite). I thought I was good enough and then the realization hit me like a ton of bricks when I couldn't understand anybody (the Southern accent is tough for a beginner). It was hairy for a while; I even phoned home once crying and saying I couldn't understand anyone and I would never learn that darn language!
Also, it is my understanding that kids learn languages a lot easier than adults because they haven't held the grammatical rules as long as we have, so, it's perfectly natural for your children to be a bit more advanced.
Regarding your sentence, anyone would understand you down here, so that's good enough, the point is to be able to communicate; if you'd said that to me, I would have known what you were talking about. BTW, even though your son is absolutely right and "pescado" is the fish that has been caught and "pez" is the fish that's still swimming somewhere, it's a mistake many Spanish speakers make too, quite a lot, actually, so, don't feel too bad about it.
Back when my English vocabulary was limited, I used to make drawings to English speakers so that they'd tell me what the word was. If I was talking about my country, the fifth oil producer in the world, and I didn't know the words for "oil wells", I'd draw one on a napkin; when Pictionary came out, I was a natural ;) .
Arinneior 09-26-2007, 06:32 AM oh my....I just laughed so hard I cried! :D tugwilly...my white cat Roxy stares at the wall normally; she will stop in the middle of the hall, sit down and stare for several minutes. One day she jumped up on the bookcase, and sat with her nose practically touching the wall for about a halfhour! I took a picture.
oh, the dancing Italians..."conga conga conga!" ROTFLMAO!
I had a email friend from Latvia for two years, and his writing was usually textbook perfect. He had trouble with slang sometime, and that could be funny. He mentioned one time that "he fell asleep in his book burning the midnight oil". It took him awhile to be able to joke about it, but his grammar was really good.
ame en peine 09-26-2007, 07:26 AM LID- I'll be sure to put a flower in my hair and dance..
lol on the dancing Italian wedding spiders.. tarantella tarantulas..
President Bush is speaking today at the UN too.. Eee-gads. this just keeps getting betterer and betterer....
Tugwilly 09-26-2007, 08:58 AM AME I'm on a bit of an evil roll here, but do you think you could possilby get a picture of all you slogging down the street to your hotel in The City. Why do you need 8 pieces of luggage? How many of you are going?
DeLand I thot breifly about filming Wilson's drugged stupor, but recently I have been getting the feeling that he understands more human language and behavior than most dogs do.Guess he's been given a bigger brain to off set the fact he is rather pitiful visually. Several rather unsettling occurances. I know it's silly, but they really spooked me. I decided not to lest he round up the other pups in the middle of the night and orchestrate some kind of retribution. I am so glad none of them have thumbs cuz they sure wouldn't need me.
I am still sad to leave:sadwalk::crybaby:
pacejunkie 09-26-2007, 10:14 AM Okay, it's getting harder to keep up in here again. I feel myself slipping.....
P.S. I'm surprised that there isn't some wise, sage witicism in the thread title that is agreed on by membership, maybe like
"The Council of Elders: LOST fans 35 and over; Chapter 3, The Beauty of Grey" or somesuch.
Or:
The Council of Elders #3 -- Hey! We're Still Alive!
:24:
*wishes I were clever enough to have thought of a sage witicism* Maybe BD can come up with one. I love the changing taglines for the Basement. We could submit ideas and then take a vote. STH, you're awesome.
And I'm not grey either, so hey now. ;)
Save The Humans 09-26-2007, 10:28 AM Morning, Elders! :wavey:
It's the day of The Appointment, and I am totally freaked out, paranoid, and panicky, just as I knew I would be. I'm now living with the thought that the specialist thinks the appointment is for doing the root canal TODAY and there is no way that can happen. For one thing, she'll doubtless be exasperated that I want to be put to sleep. For another, the appointment is for 1pm. By the time they really call me in (ever hear of an appointment that runs on time?), she takes the pictures to confirm things, and tells me she's ready to go--well, it'd be 2pm. By the time I went to sleep, she did the procedure, I woke up and was ungroggy enough to leave, it would probably be past the time the office usually closes (4 to 5pm is normal). Then I have to get on the bus (assuming they're still running by that time), go downtown, switch buses, walk the two-three blocks home--and be in a house that probably doesn't have enough temperature-neutral, soft or liquid foods in the house to get me to tomorrow, when I could chew again.
This scenario is playing over and over and over in my head. I don't even know that she isn't thinking this is just a check-it-out appointment, too, but that doesn't matter. I am gonna be a wreck by the time I get there. Really, if it turns out she thought I was coming in for the procedure itself--well, let's just say I wish I'd scheduled an earlier appointment time. At least I'd be able to pretend I knew that's how it was gonna be, then! She's really not gonna like my telling her we have to wait another week (she's only in my town once a week), and not be in a good mood when I come in for the surgery, and. . . .
Well, I think you get the idea of the way my mind is working right now. I'm trying to tell myself to at least calm down to get some lunch in my tummy before I go in. It's not working, I'll have to eat anyway, and I'll end up with indigestion on top of everything else!
DeLand, I can empathize with your woes now--at least the everything's piling on top of each other part!
I'll get back to you Elders later this afternoon or early this evening and let you know how the disaster appointment went. :42:
That homemade ice cream cake sounds GOOOOOD, by the way!
Lost_in_DeLandFla 09-26-2007, 10:34 AM Hey STH, chin up! One thing in your favor, if you have to be sedated, they can't do it today, you have to fast from midnight the night before in order to get anesthesia! She would never think of doing it otherwise! I'm sure she will do it next week in the early morning! I'm sending lots of prayers over to you! Deep breaths sister!
Tugwilly 09-26-2007, 11:13 AM STH Put that tape on pause. DeLand is right. They wont be able to do it today. Just a heads up ( and one more possible thing for you to worry about... sorry ) If they sedate you I doubt they will let you leave there alone. If you are talking about being out out zzzzzz's. They require you have someone to at least get you out of the facility and home.
lost and found 09-26-2007, 11:16 AM STH, everything will be fine.
I am thinking of you, nonetheless.
On a side note, things are getting fun here in Oz. As I have mentioned previously, the television networks here have decided to 'fast-track' the new season/premiere of U.S. shows in order to counteract viewers downloading shows from the internet. Damages is in its 2nd week, S03 of Prison Break aired earlier tonight, and next week we have S02 of Heroes, S04 of House, and the premiere of Bionic Woman and Life. I'm feeling rather spoilt at the moment!

Oh gosh, I didn't know that *blushes with embarassment*.
Anyway, whilst talking music, I mentioned in a previous post a day or so ago, about Kylie Minogues' new album (yes, I'm a Kylie tragic), and how a rejected track had been leaked by the guy who wrote and produced it. I supplied a link to the Producers MySpace, where he had leaked the song, not knowing that he had removed the song. Well, guess what? It has popped up on YouTube (what doesn't?). So here is the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhbXs4RhB_g If you have the time, listen to the song, as I would love to hear my Elders opinions of it.
Cheers!
Guinevere 09-26-2007, 11:47 AM STH, take a deep breath. I know it will be useless to tell you to relax. Like DeLand says, you need to have an empty stomach so anesthesia's out. Hopefully, your dentist has dealth with other "denta phobes" (hey, I know that's not the word but I'm too tired to try to find out what it is). We will all be thinking good thoughts for you.

paradox 09-26-2007, 06:39 PM Hello, you all everybody.
A very sad message was left for Jorge this morning by lostscape, about Council member oceanic_lisa. http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=84722
What a terrible loss to the fuselage family. My heart and prayers go out to Lisa's family and friends. I didn't know her well, but I am crying. She was an "Elder," but so very young.
And I think I should join the Elders, also... I'd like to join today in her honor. (I am 36 btw)
justluvit 09-26-2007, 07:06 PM oh no.....we were all sending out the call for lisa to talk with us....such a beautiful soul...so full of hope and laughter...her posts so uplifting.....this is unbearably sad....
CrazyLatin007 09-26-2007, 07:29 PM Paradox, is there any way we can send our condolences to her family?
I can't believe how sad this is! I'm going to miss Lisa very much, she had such a positive outlook.
Lisa, wherever you are, know that you touched our souls and inspired us to fight the good fight. I will always carry you in my prayers and in my heart.
Lost_in_DeLandFla 09-26-2007, 09:45 PM Oh No, no, no, no! The word sadness just does not convey the emotion.
I sent an email to the person who posted on Jorges thread, asking if there was a charity we could contribute to in her honor or a way to send flowers or a card. I'll let you know what she says. If anybody else hears anything, please post so I can do something in her honor.
Does anybody know what happened? When she last checked in she was doing well and stopped treatments. I saw some PMs from Lisa in my inbox from a couple of months ago....how can it be so sad to lose someone you never met? I don't know, but it is!
I need to go hug my babies!
justluvit 09-26-2007, 09:59 PM it would be lovely to somehow let her family know that when she was on this forum she made so many people happy....that we feel we have lost a friend
I have come to believe that through cyber space we share a little bit of our soul....and open up our personality and character to each other.....its like the mask of the flesh is stripped away and we see each other as we really are.....it has always amazed me how close I feel to people here....closer sometimes than people in my real world
lisa made me feel....hope....safe....inspired....its hard to put into words.....beneath her struggle she was so strong....able to laugh....able to strengthen us through her words
It really is a sad day
ame en peine 09-26-2007, 10:08 PM Oh my God.. I just cannot believe our beloved Lisa is gone.. I'm trying to write through tears being shed for someone I've never met but who touched my heart and soul.. I sent her an e-card a while back and she gave an uproariously funny response.. It was so "Lisa"... She just emitted life and hope and love...
I'm sending prayers out to Lisa that she is in a place that knows no pain.. and nothing but joy.. and to her family and friends who were lucky enough to know her - truly know her.. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
To my fellow elders.. sending a group hug out to you all in hopes that our collective spirit can be together.... sending Lisa our love.
Like luvs, I feel so close with everyone here.. What a loss..
If there is any way to send true condolences to the family - or as mentioned a donation to a charity - I'm in.
May you rest in peace our dear Lisa.

I'm writing this through my tears. Oceanic_lisa and I live in the same town. We shared PMs about common people and places. Just yesterday out of the blue I thought of her and wondered how she was doing. I think somehow I knew. I remember from her past posts how badly she hoped to have children someday.
She'll be so very missed by her Fuselage family. :sadwave: I'm so terribly sad. I hope her family are finding ways of coping.
She was our 20th Elder and will stay forever young. Paradox, thank you for visting and welcome. You are number 70.

Her last post here on the Fuselage was made August 14, 2007 in the Leaggue of Nations thread, and although it is tragic that she was planning to visit Hawaii in November, in her post she was laughing. I'd like to remember her that way:
:biglaugh: Oh that's a good one!!!
I never knew that Hawaii got hurricanes. :eek2: We're planning a trip there (to Oahu!) in November and haven't had the best luck with beach vacations and weather in the past (have been in a freak late spring Nor 'Easter on the Outer Banks one year and had car trouble during a tropical storm's march through Cape May NJ in another...) Hopefully I won't have to explain to the cast/crew why I caused a major storm to hit!! ;)
Rest in Peace, Lisa. We love you.
CrazyLatin007 09-26-2007, 10:44 PM I've asked a mod if we could have a thread to honor her. So that people from all the areas of the Fuselage can talk about their experiences with Lisa. I think it'd be nice too if someone can provide the link to her family so that they know how loved she was.
ETA: I remember how happy she was about steak night, she made a normal, everyday dinner sound like a gourmet feast. And I will never forget that she kindly supported me when I was banned.
justluvit 09-26-2007, 11:16 PM I hope they do that crazy....cause there are going to be a lot of sad hurting fusies that she inspired that will need to gather together....I know I am one....
pace - thankyou for sharing what you did....it made me smile and cry....
Lost_in_DeLandFla 09-26-2007, 11:20 PM Hello friends. I received an email back from the nice woman who posted in Jorge's forum. Here is what she said about Lisa's passing.....
Lisa died from complications caused by her chemo treatments. She had been in ICU for about 10 days, and 'passed peacefully' last night. That is all I know for now.
She did not know of any way to donate in honor of Lisa, but would let me/us know if she heard of anything. She said she could pass a message along to Lisa's husband. I told her basically what you all said in this thread, that she was loved by many and an inspiration to all, and she was funny.
I think a thread in her honor is a great idea, then we could pass the information to her, and to Lisa's husband. That way they could read words from all of us.
Don't you feel like we are all we have in this situation? My family and "real" friends can't possibly understand how I feel about the death of a cyber friend, only you, who share this quirky, unusual but honest friendship can understand the depth of those feelings. If my husband were home, he would understand...I'm glad he's not though, it's easier to cry when someone isn't trying to comfort you!
In looking back, it is so odd that I was thinking about her so much the other day, I mean, really thinking about her. I believe her spirit was strong, even when her body was weak...this is why I believe in God.....
Rest in peace, Lisa. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends.
(Sorry - just really speechless right now.)
justluvit 09-26-2007, 11:33 PM its impossible to describe what we are all feeling.....I just wanted her to come back and share her courage and laughter in the face of adversity....I wanted to feel her again....
I feel so deeply sad and broken for her husband....to lose such a beautiful joyful and courageaous soul is unbearable to comprehend
Save The Humans 09-26-2007, 11:53 PM I was just coming over here to post from a PM I got from PennyKnows today. I guess maybe that was who wrote in the Jorge Link, too. But just in case, here's the core of her text:
I am a friend of Lisa's in the real world. She passed away yesterday, and she always spoke fondly about the people she met in the League of Nations on this board, and really enjoyed talking with those that posted there, so I am trying to spread the word to whomever she may have posted with here and was close with about her passing. If you happen to know who she spoke with here, please let them know. Feel free to have anyone PM me if they want. Lisa and I met on another board but grew close and became real life friends the past two years. Its very sad news.
I stress the part about her saying you can PM her. I guess that's what was said at the link you gave on the previous page. (I'm not linking to it; I'm shaken up enough from the PM.) I just wanted to pass this on to you Elders, since some of you have said you'd like to express sympathy.
This news is so shocking, I hate to type my dental update right now. But several of you asked, so here it is:
The specialist was quite understanding. She detailed exactly what she'd be doing in the procedure. I'll spare you the  details. But it settled the sleep issue, that's for sure. I couldn't have handled being awake during that, and the procedure would preclude my being able to mouth-breathe. I've GOT to be asleep during this! She assured me the anathesiaologist (spelling wrong, I know!) was thorough and friendly (she works with him often). She said he could insert tubes up my nose to insure I could breathe from the nose, and that there'd be sensors on my fingers to detect any change in heart rate. I was gonna live. (Well, we'll see, but that was reassuring!) When he and I talk on the phone, which should be tomorrow, I'll insist on this. Don't wanna risk subconciously NOT breathing thru the nose! He'll be collecting my medical data (he's gonna luuuuuuuve that  ) and I can ask him questions. As I am diabetic and have to eat, we're gonna have to figure out how to have something in my tummy and still have relatively fasted. Cuz I sure won't be able to eat for awhile AFTERWARDS--and that's too long for me not to eat!
Yeah, I know about the having someone around. Miraculously, I found someone, a close acquaintance who was concerned when I told her about this. I don't think they get yet that no matter HOW groggy I am when I wake up, I will NOT sleep again until I'm fully awake. I'd be too scared to! I was the same way after my wisdom teeth were removed in the 1980s and after my surgery in 2004. But I understand why everyone's concerned, and I'll make sure I'm safely back home and not out of it before sending my acquaintance away.
The worst part is the price. She's estimating 2-1/2 to 3 hours (lots of calcification in my teeth--another downside of being an Elder!), and the anathesiologist charges $600 per hour! We are almost certainly talking over $3000 (anathesia and root canal together). Plus, there's a chance the crown will come loose during surgery, meaning replacement will be necessary. The crown cost me nearly $800! Both she and I believe my being asleep will expedite things, so maybe she can do it in less time. But the calcification has to be gotten thru, both tissue and curvy nerves have to be removed, etc. I am quite worried about my financial future now, but there's nothing for it. I think I'm more scared about the hemmorhage of money than the surgery itself! After all, I'll be asleep thru the latter!
Prayers if you pray, crossed fingers if you don't, please. And I'm sorry this is so long, given the timing of the news about Lisa and all. But that's where things stand right now. I'll stop, now.
Does anyone here have some GOOD news? I think we could all use some!
Lost_in_DeLandFla 09-27-2007, 12:08 AM Does anyone here have some GOOD news? I think we could all use some!

I no longer have to carry the kids soggy gross cereal across the kitchen through the laundry room and dump it in the toilet! It's all I could come up with on short notice! I'm so relieved that all went well today STH, we were all pulling for you!
CrazyLatin007 09-27-2007, 12:12 AM This is what I wrote to Penny:
Penny,
Lisa was also active in the Council of Elders (http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?p=1657830#post1657830), here at the Fuse. We are beyond sad about the news of her departure and have been sharing our feelings about it.
Also, I requested a mod to open a thread to honor her because she was so loved by many around here. If the mods authorize the thread we would like for you to pass along the messages there to her family. I'll let you know.
In the meantime, please let her family and friends in the "real" world know that Lisa inspired many and gained many friends who will truly miss her here.
She was an amazing woman and she will be remembered with love.
Thanks,
Lost_in_DeLandFla 09-27-2007, 12:19 AM The last time I heard from Lisa was a PM shortly after the last Harry Potter book. She had just finished and need to chat/ask a question. She was so relieved that Harry had not died--she said it was as though a weight had been lifted off of her shoulders. So, I know she loved magic, and was a voracious reader! Her funny personality and sunny disposition came through in her posts and words. Even when she was feeling poorly she kept on walking. I feel blessed that she touched my life.
I remember steak night too.....I hope she had a few more!
myothercarisflight815 09-27-2007, 01:46 AM Dear Elders,
I have full faith that the thoughts we had for Lisa this week were no coincidence.
Even though we didn't know how she was doing... we all sensed that *we* loved her and *we* needed her to come to the thread. I am happy that we could send her love during her passing even without us really knowing it.
It is a sad, sad time for us and all of the people that love her.
But *she* is free now. And doesn't have cancer anymore.
justluvit 09-27-2007, 02:26 AM MOC - what a beautiful revelation....how that comforted me and made me think what an amazing universe we live in......we did put the call out to lisa while she was still with us....sending out our love to her.....not per chance that it happened...life is so much more than the five senses we worry ourselves with....thankyou for reminding me
Guinevere 09-27-2007, 02:56 AM Being new to the Elders, I wasn't able to "chat" with Lisa but I read the previous Elder thread and was inspired by her courage and sense of humor and was hoping she was getting better and would feel able to talk to everyone. You never know whose life you will touch and I know she never thought about all the "Lagers who were touched by her.

Ahhhh MOC, you said what I was feeling. I don't believe the thoughts or words were coincidence either--whatever cosmic forces or God or whatever we as individuals believe--it lead our thoughts to Lisa...for me, it's why I know there is a God. In hindsight, it's almost too much to believe--miraculous really, that we were sending thoughts, love, energy to her at the end of her life. I hope in some miniscule way, it lifted her up.
lost and found 09-27-2007, 03:39 AM My heartfelt thoughts go out to Lisa's loved ones.
I am sure she will keep laughing along with our shenanigans from above.
Save The Humans 09-27-2007, 03:44 AM She was amazing. I could NEVER handle her illness like she did. Even after death, she is a role model!
God's tom 09-27-2007, 03:53 AM I just got home & found out. I will miss Lisa, & grieve for her family.
This is the 1st time since joining the fuse that a fellow lager has died. It's very sobering to know it could have been me or any one of us. I pray that she made peace with God before the end came.
Here's to Lisa - she was a good friend.
Save The Humans 09-27-2007, 07:30 AM Good to see you, Tom. Wish it could've been for happier reasons. :frown:
Tugwilly 09-27-2007, 08:20 AM Being a relative newcomer I didn't know Lisa, except from going thru previous posts. Her spirit shone thru loud and clear. She touched a lot of lives, my thoughts are with everyone who had her in their life..
Dany_E 09-27-2007, 11:52 AM As usual, I haven't been here enough but I heard the news and I wanted to share my shock and grief in the place where I met lisa and knew her best. I'm glad she went peacefully but there's a part of me that's mad - at cancer, at treatment, at myself for not being there enough for her...I will miss her. She was a great person.
lostscape 09-27-2007, 11:54 AM Hi Guys.
I would like to join your group, please. I do qualify, and then some, and then some more ;)
Today, I read the definition of the word hero: and Lisa immediately came to mind.....
"[One] admired for [her] achievements and noble qualities, one who shows great courage, an object of extreme admiration and devotion."
ya. She was a great inspiration to many. I believe that she is experiencing great joy now, that we can only imagine, and my thoughts and prayers go out to her husband and family.
ETA: Oh, I see that you post the ages in the first page of the thread -- so -- 48.
PennyKnows 09-27-2007, 12:03 PM Hi Everyone, I'm the one who sent the PM yesterday.
I don't know any of you here (sans lostscape who just posted above me) but I met Lisa on another Lost board and I remembered her talking to me in real life about her friendships on this board. That was why I sent the PM out yesterday. As for the other post at Jorge's board, that was not me, but I know there are many people in the online community beyond this forum that are deeply saddened by the news.
I don't qualify for membership in this thread (Lisa used to remind me of that LOL as I am younger than her by about 8 years), but I will be sure to let her husband and family know of the heartfelt sentiments being posted here about her.
I am working on sending a card from other online friends and I will add "Council of Elders from the Fuselage" to that card as I know she has mentioned this group to her husband!!
Take care and continue to comfort each other in your group. You all seem like wonderful friends of Lisa's and I know how much she will be missed.

lostscape 09-27-2007, 12:30 PM Hi again,
We are going to send flowers to Lisa's service on Saturday. Any ideas on how we should sign the card?
Lisa's LOST friends?
Also: I just learned that Memorial Contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Western PA, 333 East Carson St., Suite 441, Pittsburgh, PA 15219
Lost_in_DeLandFla 09-27-2007, 12:40 PM Please PM me, I would like to contribute to flowers. I can do paypal or put something in the mail to you, just tell me how to help out!
Perfect....I was hoping their would be a wy to contribute to something that would be meaningful for others suffering the same disease Lisa did. A check will be in the mail today! Thanks Lostscape!
ame en peine 09-27-2007, 12:41 PM What a restless night... my thoughts were with Lisa.. her family.. her friends.. and all of you.. I went back last night to the old thread to re-live some Lisa moments.. it's just too sad to think she's not here anymore..
Penny Knows - thanks for that.. such a small, cold comfort but hopefully it will convey to her husband and family how we loved her...
MOC - thank you for realizing that we were calling for Lisa during the precious last few hours of our life... Although we had no idea at the time, we were sending up prayers.. good thoughts.. wishes for joy.. during a time when she needed them more than ever.. I hope she felt it on some level.. in her soul.. I believe that God listens to such prayers ...and made her path easier as she left this mortal, cumbersome existence in exchange for a place aloft.. Justluvit - thank you for starting that call...
Like Tom, this is the first time since joining the Fuselage that a member I knew and loved has passed..
What a tenuous place this is.. I'm speaking of two places, I guess.. One, here in cyberspace - where we bare our feelings and souls to each other.... and grow as close if not closer than "real life" friends.. yet I wouldn't know most of you if I walked into you on the street. so strange.. And two - this life - it is so cruelly tenuous.. All the more reason to treat each day as it may be your last.. Not in a sad way, but in a reverent and joyful way that befits being grateful for this life.. Each day is incredibly precious, and tomorrow is not at all promised.. So let's remember to live fully, my dear Elders.. In honor of Lisa and with Lisa in your heart - let's live each day to it's fullest extent.. In that spirit, I'm going to see Bruce Springsteen tomorrow morning at the Today show. I'll be sure to rock out extra hard for her..
Lost_in_DeLandFla 09-27-2007, 12:44 PM Oh Ame--thanks for the heads up! B R U C E ! Wear something orange so we can try to find your beautiful face!
upuaut_108 09-27-2007, 12:56 PM I qualify here too - Age = 48
I knew Lisa from other LOST forums where I am better known as Vincent_Madison.
It is amazing to see so many here too that loved her and knew her online.
She will be missed in many places where she touched us all - even if just briefly.

TabbyRasa 09-27-2007, 01:10 PM lostscape and PennyKnows
Thank you for letting us know about Lisa, and posting the memorial information.
It is very sad news. May she rest in peace, and may all her family and friends find comfort and acceptance.
Lisa's posts were so bright, positive, hopeful, and courageous--even when mentioning her illness and treatments. She was and still is truly an inspiration. Although I didn't know her personally, I looked forward to her posts.
Lisa will live on in the hearts of those who love and remember her.

pacejunkie 09-27-2007, 01:22 PM Not only was it strange that I should have been thinking of Lisa in the past few days before this happened, but I also felt compelled to come back here when it was time to start a new thread. Now I'm glad I did to be with you guys at a time like this. Life is funny.
Hi Guys.
I would like to join your group, please. I do qualify, and then some, and then some more ;)
Welcome. It's nice to see others are inspired by Lisa to join us in her memory. The answer to such sadness is to continue on in life, building relationships and growing. She'd be pleased.

Thank you Penny. Just so you know, anyone who is under 35 is welcome to join this group as an Aspiring Elder, so you're still allowed if you'd like to. Thanks for including us in the card.

That sounds good. Unless you want to sign it under the names of the two groups she was most involved in, the Council of Elders and the Leaggue of Nations. LOST friends would be sure to cover everyone though.
Thank you for the information on contributions. I will also send mine today. We need to find a cure for this horrible disease that too often takes children and young lives.

OMGsowellsaid. Thanks ame. And have a GREAT time at the show. I saw Genesis two weeks ago and it was fantastic.
I qualify here too - Age = 48

Thanks and welcome to the Elders upuaut!
lost and found 09-27-2007, 02:02 PM It is touching to see that Lisa seems to have inspired new folk to join us here.
I am sure she is smiling down on us at the moment.
When I lost my sister suddenly in 1992 (she was only 5 years old), I was given a phrase by a friend to help me cope. I would like to share this phrase with you all now, as it may just bring some comfort....
"Those we lose, we grieve,
But must rejoice that we ever had".
upuaut_108 09-27-2007, 02:42 PM Pace, Thanks so much for letting us join your group. I am sure Lisa would be amazed at the response from everyone and how it has brought people together because of her that would not have otherwise happened.
PennyKnows 09-27-2007, 03:25 PM Pace,
Thank you for the warm welcome. I guess I will call myself an aspiring Elder. Lisa would be pleased to see I've warmed up to my impending old-ageness :)
Ah and Vincent is here now. Its so touching to see a merging of Lisa's friends. Her spirit truly is a powerful one.
I look forward to getting to know those of you she talked so much about to me. The first time I met her in person - she mentioned this group!!
And enjoy the Springsteen concert Ame!!
Lost_in_DeLandFla 09-27-2007, 03:43 PM I have to share something I found last night....I had the tv on and that new commercial from Old Navy came on--the sweater one. The song is so beautiful,so I tracked it down. It is sung by a young lady named Ingrid Michaelson, a young folk singer. Since I am old, you all may know who she is, but I didn't. She is a pretty remarkable young thing, recorded this album by herself, no label. Some songs were played on a tv show--maybe ER? Anyway, the song As I Am just kind of fits my mood today sad and beautiful. I am so sad about Lisa but her death has made me appreciate so much more all of the things I take for granted....
Here's the link.... http://www.ingridmichaelson.com/lyrics.html
Save The Humans 09-27-2007, 03:43 PM Thank you for all you've done, PennyKnows. You are very, VERY welcome here!
I'd like to quote a modern (well, in the 70s, it was!) praise song that has always been a comfort to me when losing someone. Just the first verse and chorus:
Someday a bright new wave
Will break upon the shore,
And there will be so sickness,
No more crying, no more war.
And little children never will go hungry anymore.
And there'll be a bright new morning over there,
There'll be a bright new world for us to share.
Peace, Elders!
lost and found 09-27-2007, 03:48 PM Pace,
Thank you for the warm welcome. I guess I will call myself an aspiring Elder.
Enjoy being an 'aspiring Elder' whilst you can, Penny.
I know I am, as in four short months, I shall 'officially' qualify as just an 'Elder'! Strangely enough, I'm kind of excited about the 'milestone'.
Save The Humans 09-27-2007, 03:52 PM Oh, we shall have to throw a party to celebrate your entry to Elderhood!

I know, STH!
January 24 - mark it in your diary.
We will have one heck of a party!
Hi Elders. I am a longtime member of The Fuselage but I rarely post or even lurk here. Just very busy these days and very involved with another forum. That's where I met oceanic_lisa. Penny, 'Scape and upuat_108 (geez Vincent, could you pick a harder name?) know me as Supermodel. Don't know why I picked a different name here, I guess you guys already have a resident supermodel.
I didn't know Lisa was so much a part of the community here, but I've enjoyed reading this thread. Since my friendship with her led me here, can I join, too? I'm pretty old - 39.
pacejunkie 09-27-2007, 06:15 PM Pace, Thanks so much for letting us join your group. I am sure Lisa would be amazed at the response from everyone and how it has brought people together because of her that would not have otherwise happened.
You're quite welcome. It wouldn't be a group without all of you. :)
