I am but I'm not sure if that's an appropriate thing to ask on these boards.

The Chit Chat board is for discussion of anything. Yes! I'm a Christian, and I'm not saying it to preach to anyone, but because that's what the poster asked. There's no need to get offended. :flower:

Hey, Christian here! It's okay to profess your beliefs on a public forum. We do still live in a free country. In fact, we can even talk about whether or not we think there are Christian themes in Lost if we want to. I think there might actually be something there. Not purgatory or anything, but the idea of being punished for wrong doing. Not saying I think Lost is a Christian show, but I do think there are moral principles there that could be interpreted as good vs evil, choices = consequences, crime leads to punishment, which are fundamental Christian teachings.

lol. Sometimes I feel like I was "born Baptist" too. Seriously, I was in church the Sunday after I was born. And I was born on a Friday! lol I'm considering converting to Methodist, but it's such a big decision. just kidding. I'm more of the "Christianity is a relationship, not a religion," train of thought. Anyway, it's nice to meet all of you!

"In the world ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer
for I have overcome the world."
That's loosely saying, "Don't worry, be happy."

I have seen some ugly anti-Christian tripe posted on message boards, so I don't see anything wrong with raising a hand to say you believe. My hand is raised.

Me too :). I got a little too excited about Hurley being the census taker and his episode being Numbers. I'm hoping they will delve more into Charlie's past next season. Not in a preachy way but I found it kinda interesting. I'm still trying to figure out how Aaron fits into all this. Guess I'll have to wait.

I got saved when I was 19. I lean toward Full gospel churches (what is sometimes referred to as
Charismatic.) Basically, I don't call myself any particular denomination - I believe the Word as I
read it & as God reveals it to me.
I'm between churches right now, but I'm trying to be the best Christian I can.
Keep the faith!

* *Thanks for the Good Word, lonewolf. I was saved as a young child. This thread is so cool! God bless to all who read this.
* *I like the religious possibilities in the show, too. For example, Sayid found himself torturing Sawyer in a "situation ethics" scenario, even though he'd promised himself he'd never do it again. Then in the next ep, he himself was tortured by Danielle - sowing and reaping indeed. I thought the writers also did this for Sayid to have some form of "redemption" with the viewers. This is one of the reasons I like Sayid so much - there is a little Sayid in all of us. We have all done things we regret, but life has to go on, and we do the best we can to make things right. Sorry, hope this doesn't sound preachy or anything. Just love the show so much!

You don't need to worry about sounding preachy. The way I look at it - this is our thread, & people know what it's about, so if they're offended by religion - they don't have to click on it - right!
Just keep on saying exactly what you feel, & you don't have to apologize for being "Politically incorrect".

Favorite Psalm. Psalm 42. Please don't mention the numbers. :lol2: It's a coincidence. As the deer pants for the water....

In another thread I'm on we were talking about Charlie and hoping they would stay continue with some stuff we saw in The Moth.

Charlie....you know what I really want for Charlie? I want him to rediscover his religious roots and serve as sort of a spiritual leader on the island.....not necessarily religious leader, just a spiritual leader. He was on that path before music led him astray.....and how cool would it be for the Ethan-killing, junkie rock star to take that path? They certainly need someone in that role....and hey, if we ever got around to a J/K wedding, he'd be available to perform the ceremony.

I love your ideas about Charlie. They've set that up perfectly with his interaction with Rose earlier. What would be GREAT is if they set him up as a sort of counter to Locke. I mean, we have Locke and his "faith" in the island, and Jack and his science in a science vs. faith sort of thing. But Charlie could take a third path that would be really interesting.

LostATLbabe, you from ATL? I am too.

* *notfadeaway, yes I am - born and raised! We are quickly becoming a rare breed here in ATL, with so many transplants from other parts of the US. I absolutely love it here and hope I never move away.
* *I have missed some of the eps during the season* :( - I got hooked part way through. I started out watching the pilot, missed eps, gave up trying to follow along* :-\. Then they re-aired the pilot and some eps, and I tried to catch on again, and missed more eps,*:'( and almost gave up again. Were it not for Naveen Andrews haunting, amazing eyes as Sayid, I think I would not have tried again, but now I am hooked!! I have such a terrible crush on him - it's pretty pitiful (swoons at the thought)*. I hope they never off Sayid - never, never!! Anyway, I don't think I have seen the moth ep - I know I missed Charlie killing Ethan, Claire being kidnapped and all that. I hope to see it over the summer. What's the deal w/Charlie's religious roots? And BTW, we definitely need a minister on the island so that Sayid and I can get married!* :malelovies: (tee hee!)
* *Two of my favorite Psalms are Ps. 37 and Ps. 103 - God Bless!* :biggrinangelA:

I've never seen TB, HOTRS in it's entirety so I'm excited. I cause a couple of my friends who don't watch the show to fall for Naveen Andrews. i'm gald you stayed tuned for Sayid. That way, we would always be able to find each other without having to hunt for this thread. I don't

I'm a Catholic.

It may seem that religious affiliation is not all that relevant in a forum like this, but I have to confess that my Catholic training in theology and philosophy colors the way I watch the show.* If you look at some of my other posts, you'll see that I'm really hung up on the idea that the show amounts to an exploration of the tension between fatalism and freedom of will.* That is, of course, a central theme of Catholic thinking.

I'm also fascinated by the show's occasional references to Catholicism: Charlie in the confessional, Hurley's mom crossing herself and telling her son that Catholics don't believe in curses, the drug-smugglers dressed as Catholic priests, and the ceramic Madonnas filled with heroin.* What a loaded image that last one is -- a vile drug tucked inside one of the most powerful symbols of the Catholic Church.* I especially like it because it encapsulates my favorite theme -- freedom of will (the greatest of all Catholic saints) and destiny or determinism (the addictive drug that overpowers the will).
