View Full Version : Heath Ledger
islandchica 01-22-2008, 06:24 PM Have you guys heard about this (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22788914/?GT1=10755) yet?
I am in total shock about this.
Very, very sad news. He was a brilliant actor. And he has a little kid, too. :unhappy:
wanders01 01-22-2008, 06:25 PM Yes, very sad whatever the cause or reason.
Madge 01-22-2008, 06:32 PM Just terrible! So young and with a small baby, it's heartbreaking. Poor guy.
islandchica 01-22-2008, 06:33 PM Do you guys know if he was still married to Michelle Williams?
Alex Ewing 01-22-2008, 06:36 PM Ever since I got into comic books the one thing I wanted to see more than anything else in my lifetime was a true protrayal of the Joker. When Christopher Nolan released Batman Begins in 2005 I was excited as could be at the ending and the upcoming movie that would feature the Joker. When Heath Ledger was cast in the role I knew it was going to blow audiences away because he had always impressed me as an actor and being given a character like the Joker can make someone a superstar. When the trailer was released last month I got goosebumps watching Heath in action and I couldn't wait to see his full preformance in July. Now this news comes out and not only am I deeply saddened at the loss of a tremendous actor but someone who truly understood what means to be one; to put 100 percent into every role. Thankfully, The Dark Knight is in the stages of late post production. On July 18th, I will watch as Heath goes out with a bang that will be remembered forever.
adam8023 01-22-2008, 06:42 PM Oh no.:frown:
Life is so fragile, yet when someone passes away suddenly, you don't remember that until it happens.
R.I.P. Heath. Are thoughts and prayers go out to those who are in mourning.
Starrox 01-22-2008, 06:56 PM I really don't know what to say... I simply shocked! That's truly the last thing I expected to read today...
@islandchica: They split up last year, but I don't think they were ever married.
Tommy 01-22-2008, 06:56 PM I just saw on the news they found him in mary-kate olsens apartment.

@islandchica: They split up last year, but I don't think they were ever married.
Oh, okay. I knew they were together at one point, but wasn't sure about the marriage thing.
I just saw on the news they found him in mary-kate olsens apartment.
I heard they found him in his apartment.

Heath Ledger Is Dead. :sob:
:(
ame en peine 01-22-2008, 07:10 PM I heard they found him in his apartment.I've read a couple of accounts... it says here he was staying in Olsen's apartment..
http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/01/22/actor-heath-ledger-is-found-dead/index.html?hp
He was way too young, and such a talented actor.. With a little girl too.. :frown: He looked incredible as the Joker in the upcoming Dark Knight.. Loved him in Knight's Tale and The Patriot.. Blew me away in Brokeback Mountain.. Such a shame...
briar910 01-22-2008, 07:15 PM This is so shocking. One of the last people in Hollywood that I would expect something like this to happen to IMO. He was such a brilliant actor and still so young. I loved 10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight's Tale and he was very good in Brokeback Mountain. So sad.
Just A Button 01-22-2008, 07:16 PM This is so sad.
AnOtherGoodGuy 01-22-2008, 07:33 PM So upset right now. Absolutely loved him, amazingly talented actor, and always just seemed like such a genuine person. What a waste of life. And his poor daughter. Just so, so, so sad. :frown:
DrUrbino 01-22-2008, 07:33 PM This is so tragic, Heath Ledger was a terrific actor, "Ten Things I Hate About You" and "The Patriot" were great films among the many he completed in his lifetime. Life is so fragile and it is so sad how suddenly this happened. I feel terrible for his friends, family, and especially for his little girl. :(
its so sad :( heath ledger was one of my favorite actors. he was so talented. it's such a shame that his life has ended so tragically.
Foxylover 01-22-2008, 07:59 PM I'm in shock. Such a young and talented actor. I'm speachless.
RIP Heath.
RodimusBen 01-22-2008, 08:57 PM Watching Brokeback Mountain tonight to celebrate a fine young actor lost before his time.
Starrox 01-22-2008, 09:55 PM More details about his death from a press conference (http://usmagazine.com/police_ledger_was_found_deceased_naked_and_face_do wn). :sadwalk:
*is still in shock*
islandchica 01-22-2008, 11:17 PM Heath is just like the last person I would expect this to happen to. I mean, I guess he'd been in rehab before, but there are a LOT of other young people in Hollywood that seem more likely to fall to this fate. *Not naming names, but there are a few obvious ones*
johnnywishbone 01-22-2008, 11:21 PM totally in shock
such a shame
and i just happen to notice that no one mentioned what i think was one of his best roles......
Lords of Dogtown (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0355702/)
if you haven't seen it, it's a must rent for Heath fans
so sad :sadwalk:
ame en peine 01-23-2008, 12:00 AM Lords of Dogtown was excellent... Strange, it didn't pop up on my short list of Ledger films... Probably because it's such a great ensemble.. He was great in it..
LostApril 01-23-2008, 04:39 AM I am mortified. :sob:
He was a brilliant actor who didnt take parts in films just to make a buck. He took the ones to make a statement.
Lords of Dogtown is one of my all time favorites. I also loved him in the didn't do so great in the box office Brothers Grimm. I understand he was working on something else with Terry Gilliam.
I was just talking about how excited I was for Dark Knight as I felt Heath's portrayal of the Joker would be stellar. Now I will still go to see it but it will be difficult to watch.
RIP Heath. You will be missed. :sadwave:
Warne 01-23-2008, 06:39 AM RIP Heath - this is very sad news
lipgloss_and_revolver 01-23-2008, 08:24 AM noooooooo ... :20: i loved him in Brokeback Mountain & Lords of Dogtown .. :shakehead:
:rip:
Superman 01-23-2008, 12:11 PM i was also shocked to hear this... amazingly talented actor, def one of my favorites... it's just wild because he maintains such a low profile by celeb standards that you're taken aback when you hear about it... his last film, The Dark Knight, is one of my most anticipated for the past couple years... from what Nolan and castmates say, his portrayal as the joker is nothing short of exceptional, and that he was so dedicated and into the role that he couldn't sleep at night... i hope there's a dedication prior to credits... it's going to be very weird watching the movie now... even the tagline for the movie "why so serious" feels eerily creepy now...
RIP
1DocLover 01-23-2008, 02:00 PM It is truly terrible and so sad for Michelle and their daughter. (and he was not in any of the Olsen's apartments - it was his) He didn't conform to the Hollywood lifestyle that so many do and I loved that about him. And he was an amazing actor! I hope he's at peace.
Michaud 01-23-2008, 02:09 PM You're absolutely right about Dogtown. His performance in Candy has likewise been missed by many of the newspaper reports that I've read today, and it stands alongside Brokeback and the rest in demonstrating his willingness to take on controversial (to some), demanding, complex and varied roles to which he was able to introduce great subtlety. No doubt his interpretation of the Joker will be equally satisfying to witness.
One of the things about great actors, directors, producers (and so on) is that with every announcement of a new release with their name attached to it comes a little skip of the heart and months of excited anticipation, and that has been true of both The Dark Knight and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
His talent will be missed. :(
justluvit 01-23-2008, 06:00 PM When Heath Ledger was cast in the role I knew it was going to blow audiences away because he had always impressed me as an actor and being given a character like the Joker can make someone a superstar. Fine actor....and I feel the same way...his portrayal of the Joker will be one of his finest
it's just wild because he maintains such a low profile by celeb standards that you're taken aback when you hear about it.
I think its an Aussie thing....most it seems just don't want the media hype (totally puts them off)....and he came across as a true blue Aussie....two of his Aussie films that were brilliant are Two Hands and Blackrock....wonderful actor.... no wonder Mel Gibson gave him a chance in The Patriot.....
The media frenzy of how and why and what-not saddens me....just what he would have hated....how sad for his child and family....but the remembrance of his work is uplifting...

islandchica 01-23-2008, 09:48 PM I'm still having trouble comprehending this... It's just so unexpected!
I really hope the media is going to respect his family/friends' privacy on this. They must be going through such a hard time. :(

That's terrible! And I fail to see how doing that is very church-like AT ALL. I can not believe people sometimes. Hopefully security or something will intervene to prevent this from actually happening.

This is probably the most horrifying news I have heard. After reading that story, I feel absolutely SICK. I can't understand people. Their website, which I will not repeat here, mentions God Hates. I find that perplexing as I was under the impression that God LOVES.
I am beside myself. :migrane:
Aside from that disgusting display of hatred, I am sorry for Heath's family & loved ones to have to listen & read the barrage of falshooods being spewed by the media. They have taken the fact that the man had some prescribed medications & have implied he OD'd. I find this to be disrespectful as well. His family says it was an accident. Can't the media leave it at that until proven otherwise? I mean let the people working to find out what really happened find out & stop mixing in facts with assumptions.
:67hissy:
Sorry people. I will step down from the soap box. Next.
cucs2st 01-24-2008, 03:37 AM R.I.P Heath...A Knights Tales is one of my favorite movies & i cant wait till July to see you portray The Joker like know one else could. Thank you for putting 100 percent into everything u did. I hope that the autopsy reveals that it was a accident & not on purpose. I also hope your family & friends privacy is respected & that they know that your in a better place.
cata_ 01-24-2008, 04:19 AM he was a geat man. a great actor.
and will never be forgotten.
heath ledger R.I.P.
Sawyers Mojito 01-24-2008, 07:17 AM I am still in a bit of surreal disbelief. It seems so unfair that he was taken.
As for the picketers, no matter your stance on homosexuality it is just insane to do something like that at one's funeral.
Whatever happened to Not Judging? Letting God do the Judging? or Loving your neighbor?
besides IT WAS A ROLE!! *sigh*
Society is so screwed up nowadays.
Steph 01-24-2008, 07:22 AM It's terrible news - i heard about it on the news on tuesday night and was stunned - he was always an incredible actor - i loved him in a Kingts Tale and Ten things I hate about you - and of course Brokeback Mountain - I hope he's at peace - and my thoughts go out to Michelle and Matilda :(
The news about the picketing is just to ridiculous and utterly disrespectifl for words...
Sawyers Mojito 01-24-2008, 07:55 AM A Knights Tale is just so Fantastic, as is The Patriot.
I heard a really horrid comment when i first found out (from a friend) who I actually Smacked!!
I said he had died and she was so horrible to say
(very snidely)
" I guess he didn't change his Stars '
Why do people have to be so terrible? He left behind a family, fans, a brilliant career, and even if it was OD intentional or not who are we to judge his merit? We dont know him.
We love him, and He did change the stars, at least for me.
Rest Peacefully Dear Soul

lipgloss_and_revolver 01-24-2008, 08:32 AM It's depressing what people will do/say because of hate, which is hurtful to the heart & destructive to the mind.
Heath is a good man, from what I his family/friends/co-actors said on interviews earlier today .. such a loss. And yes, picketing a funeral is beyond disrespect, I wish they don't let it happen.
When I watch the Dark Knight & see his powerful performance there, i doubt it'll be easy. :strngsad:
Heath's in a peaceful place now ..
Michaud 01-24-2008, 09:29 AM Regarding his castmates' praise of his performance in The Dark Knight, Michael Caine has said that in take of the first scene that Ledger and Caine shot together, Caine was so scared of Ledger's Joker that he forgot his lines.
To have such a powerful effect as to mke one of the most experienced and brilliant actors that has ever lived forget his lines is truly something. I can't wait for the film to come out, and I'll repreat - if you can, watch 'Candy' for another fantastic Ledger performance.

It's just as insane as the group (I think this might be the same group, but not sure) who picketed a UNITED STATES SOLDIER'S funeral claiming that 911 was our punishment for accepting homosexuals (or something to that degree). This is the same kind of disgusting acts of vulgarity that Jesus said not to do. These people are not Christians.
(PS. Society is screwed up NOWadays? Hmm, it's pretty much always been screwed up. Take an eye for an eye in Egypt, THE PURITANS who burned "Witches," ect. Society is by it's nature screwed up).
My apologies for straying off topic. Heath Ledger was an INCREDIBLE actor, and he does not deserve this. His legacy will continue on for a long time to come, in the manner of the great James Dean. He will be missed, and I can not wait to see Batman so that his legacy & acting abilities may be honored. RIP Heath Ledger.

WBC is a cult and hopefully this will bring light to their antics. I actually want them to do it because before they've only messed with low-income families in the middle of nowhere. This time they'll be messing with a bunch of celebrities who have the power to shut these nutjobs down.
wanders01 01-24-2008, 02:11 PM News says 'script bottle was closed and full and that tox screen a week to ten days away? You never know what to believe. Bottom line it is a sad situation all around.
Sawyers Mojito 01-24-2008, 08:51 PM Thats so odd, I think all the circumstances are very odd, and seem a bit fishy if you will. So if he didn't OD on the prescription pills, you have to wonder what happned? :(

TheSwanComputer 01-27-2008, 06:01 PM Do you guys know if he was still married to Michelle Williams?
In all of the news that I've seen this past week. They only reffered to her as his "ex-girlfriend" and "ex-fiance". So I do not think they were ever married. Just engaged.
But still this was pretty shocking. It is the most surprised I've been over a celebrity death since John Ritter died. It is very sad.

No, it wasn't suffocation. The New York City medical examiner stated today that what killed Health Ledger was an accidental overdose of a combination of sleeping pills, pain killers, anti-anxiety pills and other perscription drugs. It was the cumulative combination of these certain pills that when taken together causes death. His death was in no way foul play and was infact accidental.
Heath died so young and my heart goes out to his family. He will be very missed.
justluvit 02-07-2008, 06:53 AM I wrote this on the elders thread but thought I would bring it here.....I feel really sad...I am absolutely sure that if Heath could come back and speak he would say OMG I never meant to die (wasn't even a thought!!)....I was exhausted from filming and intercontinental travelling, feeling lonely, anxious about my life, worried about my breakup, worried about my child and I just wanted to sleep and not feel anxious or unwell...just get to sleep and wake up tomorrow and work things out.....however he and many many people under stress are unaware of the dangers of prescription drugs....they think..."she'll be right mate"...and 'another couple won't hurt but will just relax me enough to sleep?.....his death is not about being a drug addict but about not understanding the enormity of prescription drugs and their side effects and it would seem that a lot of people are misinformed and not trying to find alternative methods to cope....his death should be a wake up call (and I am sure Heath would agree if he had survived) that prescription drugs (for everything under the sun) are not the answer to finding peace and wholeness.....a healthy life, good friends and healthy relationships are the answer to living in this stress filled world...sheesh...it is such a huge burden in society...so many people pressured by life and living in this world....and the BS that that can entail....ok end of :soapbox: ...Heath's death was an accident and he would be so remorseful if only he could have another go at life....such an unnecessary loss...but a part of this strange world

I have to say how sad I am. What a shock! When I found out, I could not keep my jaw shut. So so sad. I actually felt like someone I personally knew died. I was a huge fan of his. When the new Batman comes out this summer, all these feelings of sadness will come back.
Rest in Peace Heath.
starlight1021 02-07-2008, 11:43 AM Very nicely put justluvit.
And with all those ads for pills and other drugs that advertise how anxiety free and pain free your life will be if you take them, it makes me wonder just how many people have sadly died from this same cause as Heath did.
