OPHELIA! I did this to myself......run in the bathroom, find Hydrogen Peroxide, just keep pouring it over your finger, and find bandaids, and seriously put about 10 around your finger as tight as you can......when your finger turns purple THAT IS A GOOD THING....leave it on for like 5-10 minutes, and take it off, if its still bleeding just do that same process over and over til it stops...it worked for me, and I had sliced my finger open with those really sharp knives and it went like half way through my finger it seemed.

Cuts
Most cuts are minor, and can easily be cared for at home by cleaning the cut with soap and water and then pressing on it with a clean cloth to stop any bleeding. Then, follow with a bandage if necessary.

Seek medical help if:

* You have problems with movement or sensation after the injury.
* The bleeding doesn't stop within five minutes, even after applying steady pressure.
* You see signs of infection, including swelling, redness, a bad smell or oozing.

Seriously, I would run it under cold water then *hold a bandage on it tight. *Give in another 5-10 minutes and if it is still bleeding, You probably need to get it looked at.

Ophelia trust me, I cut myself on a knife that could cut through BONE.

Just wrap those bandaids around really tight, seriously like 10 of them....it will cut off the circulation and clot the bleeding, and your finger will heal in about 2 weeks, mine healed fine i Don't even have a scar

It's okay Ophelia, the first thing I did was run to the internet and was messaging one of my friends WHAT DO I DO!?!?!?! and then I got completely paranoid cause the bleeding would not stop for like 10 minutes and my finger felt really limp like, I thought I was going to lose my finger :lol2:

Just don't let it scare you. When I used to work on job sites I would see some pretty bad cut to fingers out in the middle of no where. Some tape and a paper towel for a bandage and they were good to go. That first look at it and trying to stop the bleeding can be scary for anyone.

O, keep a lot of pressure on it til it stops. If it doesnt stop in 20 minutes you might need a few stitches, but for heavens sake, STOP TYPING WITH IT!!! It will never stop if you keep using it

I have a nasty scar on my middle finger from where I cut it with a knife while doing the dishes once. There was blood everywhere, but I wrapped it up and went to try on bridesmaid dresses. Hmm . . .

Yeah I cut my finger before, when I was working at Dairy Queen. I cut it opening a can of peanut butter. (!!) I could see my muscles and stuff cause they popped out! It was cool until I still had to work cause I was the only one there. I had to wait an hour for this stupid girl to come, all the while me having to work with my bloody finger all cut up! I gave her a dirty look as I left though cause I knew she came in late on purpose. I almost had to get stitches but I talked the doctor outta it. ;)

ooo, my friend Luke did a couple of flips in English class back in December, went a bit to the side and landed on a desk, cutting his leg so you could see the bone.... that was awesome!

Getting back to the emergency at hand! . . . I love it when I make a spontaneous pun . . . ah emergency yeah . . .
Ophelia, here's what you do . . . you must pay very close attention to these directions or you could turn this into
a much more serious problem!
In order to stop the bleeding at the place where the knife penetrated your finger, what you MUST do
is wrap that sight with some cloth, band-aid anything that will completely cover the wound. This is CRITICAL!
Then take the knife that you originally cut yourself with, and sever your finger completely above,I repeat ABOVE,
PROXIMAL to the original wound! This will stop the original wound from bleeding.
I guarantee that this method works every time!

WS- I smashed my middle finger in a heavy metal door once. I enjoyed flipping everyone off. Hee hee. If you have to get stitches in a finger I would always choose the middle one.
