When Jack was about to leave Hurley on the basketball court, you can briefly see someone's head pop up and then back down behind the basketball net. Mistake? Or was someone hiding there? I'm leaning towards mistake....

I'm leaning towards mistake, too. I'd not even have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it. Probably a crew member, somebody from the lightning staff or something. I don't think it holds any deeper meaning.

yeah, i didnt think so. I was reading somewhere (and I couldnt find the thread, which is why i started this one) that they thought there was a strange shadow on the blue mats when Hurley was playing BBall. I rewatched the scene, then noticed that. Thought it was funny  But honestly, I've been reading so much on LOST since last night, it may not have even been a thread on here....

That's really amusing. Thanks, erin.
I don't imagine it has any hidden meaning, but funny nonetheless.

Just yesterday I was watching that Simpsons Ep where the kids are snowed in at school and they watch a really crappy old film and in it there's this stagehand that keeps popping his head out. It reminded me of that.

Yea, I'd say its a crew member. I've seen WAAAAYYYYYYY worse examples of this.

(Eg, the X-Files- in one episode in a hall scene you can fully see a crew member attempting to hide behind a garbage can! In another, a hand actually reaches into the corner of the screen to deposit a steak to be picked up by a character- so funny!)

good catch...even a show as well edited as Lost has the rare mistake. Wasn't there a crew member that was clearly seen in The Wizard of Oz?

Yeah I saw that too during the episode, and it is probably a mistake, after all we can't really see anything distinct. But if it's not a mistake, it's interesting to think about.

Notice that when Jack and Kate meet, it's at night, in an out of the way place(I think it's even implied that they've met here before) almost like it's secretive. Plus, there meeting is very awkward and Kate even says "he's going to be wondering where I am". Yet when Hurley and Jack meet, it's not planned, definitely not secretive, Jack just pops in.

What if, at the beginning, when they first left the island (when Jack and Hurley meet), they were being monitored, and then overtime the people monitoring "The Oceanic 6" discovered that some of the survivors all want to go back to the Island. "These people" of course don't want this, so they order the Oceanic 6 that they can no longer meet with each other. It could explain Jack and Kate's secretive meeting and it could also contribute to Jack's downfall, although I'm sure Christian appearing to Jack (like Charlie appeared to Hurley) is most of the reason. It could alos explain this "head pop up" in TBOTE as someone monitoring Jack and Hurley's meeting.

Just a thought, but it's probably nothing, and is something that was overlooked.

Well it wasn't on my first watch! It was on my second when I was looking for any of the "background stuff".

From what I've read on these boards is that all regulars get mentioned in the credits whether they appear or not, since they get paid for the episode whether they appear or not.

This scene was in a mental facility. Maybe it was just a crazy person being all crazy.

It was Charlie waiting to terrorize Hurley again.

I have to admit that I wasn't paying attention to the backboard though. I kept thinking "DUDE! There is no way Jack just missed those easy shots. Hello!! Look at that athletic bod!"

You people are crazy. The person behind the hoop has a pointy, dark head. It is clearly Charlie in his hoodie, as evidenced by this cap:

Good catch, erin. I suspect that the mystery person is either a sound guy (a mic behind the backboard to pick up the sound of the ball hitting the basket/backboard), or possibly somebody with a light meter. Either that or they have somebody behind the backboard with a bunch of basketballs that get dropped down to simulate Jack's missed shots (for close-ups).

Lucidity - That's the first thing that popped into my head too! :D

The spookiest one of these in Lost was a person peering through a door window in the Hydra operating theatre when Jack was doing his Ben thing. That really got the Theories flying.

I missed that one, Lucidity. Will have to go back and have a look.

There have been a few of these kind of errors http://www.moviemistakes.com/tv4719/serieswhole?singletype=visiblecrew
Unfortunatley they only seem to cover seasons 1 and 2.

It's inevitable that some of these are going to slip through the net.

I'm sure that's the reason, but it's always fun to speculate!

OK. Must be the guy who makes sure shots go into the basket. Was the framing such that when a ball went into the hoop, the top of the backboard couldn't be seen?

All except for one shot. Over Hurley's left shoulder.

Maybe it was Vincent

The odd thing I thought I noticed in that scene (when first viewed) was that amidst all the chairs along the court sidelines was one particular chair that was not the same type/style as others, which also looked oddly like the "chair" in Jacob's cabin on the island ... something which of course got me thinking all kinds of things. (I think you catch a glimpse of it by the doors as Jack leaves the gym.) But in watching the repeat of the episode last night, I'd say I was probably reaching/taking things too far in a search for clues through background/prop images.

I was rewatching the scene because another poster thought that they had seen weird shadows or something, then I noticed the head pop up. Could just be a mistake, it's been known to happen, even on LOST, but I thought it was cool that I saw it before reading a post on here and going back to look HaHa
