good to know.

by the by, I had to change my avatar because someone had uploaded it without someone else's permission.
I didn't know and used it.

So, hopefully, no one else is using/ or has illegally loaded this avatar.

Wow, you board monitors have your work cut out for you.

And how come there are no avatars of Kate with a gun?

I'm not really in the DC area but I am in the vicinity. I'm across the mountain in VA. I can get to DC in about an hour (traffic permitting!)

Good luck with your viewing party.

Southern Maryland representin'! I can get to DC in about an hour to an hour and a half depending on traffic and where I get the Metro. I don't dare drive into DC... too scary for this little country grrl.

Superman
03-21-2005, 09:03 PM
yeah, i usually avoid driving into DC like the plague... i have my internship in NW DC but that doesn't really count... driving through Georgetown and on Wisconsin isn't too bad

artnfilm
03-22-2005, 08:19 AM
Southern MD ain't bad for driving.
Neither is DC.

It's on the Delaware Turnpike, where the Philly exits cross you've got to watch out!! The most dangerous spot to drive on the entire east coast as far as I am concerned!

elfdream
03-22-2005, 08:47 AM
After you cross the mountain into VA the traffiic's not all that bad.

My husband hates the Metro. He says it makes him sick so he would rather drive. The traffic makes ME sick.

I stil haven't gotten down to see the new native Americans museum on the Mall yet. I'm a BAD Indian.*

artnfilm
03-22-2005, 11:22 AM
elf - you are indian? which tribe?
I met the chief of the cherokees in Williamsburg recently.

I am no Indian - just fascinated by them. (am Irish though - the Indians can keep up with my drinking) :lol2:

elfdream
03-22-2005, 01:50 PM
I'm a reservation born card carrying casino check cashing Cherokee... ;D

Did you meet Chief Hicks? Doesn't he look like a Marine?

Or did you meet the Chief of the Western Cherokees?

artnfilm
03-22-2005, 02:08 PM
No, I met Chief Red Hawk.

elfdream
03-22-2005, 03:25 PM
Oh that guy. He's not an elected Chief. He's more of a cultural ambassador of sorts. His title is honorary.

artnfilm
03-22-2005, 03:37 PM
LOL
That's not the way he works it. Believe me, he acts like he is THE chief!!!!

elfdream
03-22-2005, 04:42 PM
Well..my Chief is Chief Hicks..a fairly young guy. The Chief of the Western Cherokees is named Summer I believe. They are elected officials.

I didn't grow up on the reservation though although we went back every summer. I'm not a very good Indian. We moved up here because of my dad's job (the Federal Goverment..what else! He worked at Mt. Weather )

artnfilm

LOL too funny.

I work for a company that is owned in good part by Native Americans and I don't have a drop of Indian blood in me.

Best Mexican restaurant in the D.C. area is "The Alamo" in Riverdale, MD. Kenilworth Avenue &...um...what starts out as East-West Highway...193, I believe. It's a dive. It's fantastic.

I'm in Laurel, MD. I'm with the USS Chesapeake (http://www.usschesapeake.org), a local science fiction club that runs the discussion panels at Shore Leave and Far Point. We'll be doing a LOST panel at some point during Shore Leave this summer. Hope to see you there!

Oh, man... I haven't been there in YEARS, even though I live in PG County! Although you haven't seen a Mexican dive until you've been to Tippy's...er.... Toucan Taco up in Laurel! It's a genuine biker haven, but they've got the best queso in the world! It's the last place I went to before I joined Weight Watchers. :lol2:

Best darned queso in the world! But there's nothing quite like ordering virtually everything on the menu, a la carte, from The Alamo. If you can afford it - which I can't!

They're putting in a new place across the street from where you live - "Chipotle." Just drove past it yesterday. Another new Mexican restaurant on that same strip on Route 1. Will they never learn?

Vilya

I recently was introduced to it (well, a few months ago), and I don't know...I'm fearful at how bad it is for me, but it's so tasty. It's the spices I think. :\

i think it's because i prefer more genuine mexican food and this tastes more like tex-mex... i like their tacos, but the other stuff is meh to me...

I haven't tried it yet. I assume that it's like Baja Fresh, which I really like. For Mexican, we usually hit DP's or the Salvadoran place that's over by the movie theaters on Rt. 1.

I'm going up to Washington DC next week and will be there when the season finale airs. Rather than watch it in my hotel room, is there any place around there people meet and watch the show at? That'd be awesome, just wondering if you guys know of any place. Thanks!
