If all are confirmed dead, how do we explain... how will they explain that the Oceanic 6 are alive?

I think that Dharma video where the rabbits were accidentally cloned is the answer...

I agree with mrander -- if they go about making a big deal about no survivors, how can the Oceanic 6 become celebrities? Wouldn't they have that part hushed up as well?

They'll be so famous because they were believed dead. Remember they've not actually looked inside the plane, they indentified the pilot and assumed the rest dead. A return would be surprising but as individuals other than the pilot weren't actually confirmed, it will be easy enough for Oceanic/Dharma to PR their way out of.

They'd probably pass it off as "they were knocked unconscious when falling out the plane as it hit the water, then by luck they washed up on a nearby shore" Though it still leaves large gaps as to explaining the length of time after the crash went missing and when they would of "washed up"

They probably have to play along with a story that they used a raft and got out of the plane as it was falling toward the water. Some real James Bond/Indiana Jones survival stuff.
I am sure that one of the big secrets that the Oceanic Six has to keep is the cover up about the fake plane.

The oceanic 6 is explained as a apart of a elaborate cover up involving our 6 losties. I assume thats the reason Jack is tired of lying.

it really depends how they get back to the US..
If it's done by them, and ONLY them, then they are celebrities.
But if dharma, Ben, or whoever is behind it, you can rest assured they would be hushed upon return.
But we can see that that ISN'T the case, considering the first episode of the season!
The Oceanic6 made it back to the real world on their own terms, and their own power..

If they are celebs for surviving the crash of 815, they will need some story about "where" they survived between the crash and their rescue... Can't exactly lead the 60 minutes crew back to the island can they?

I think this is part of the reason why they are celebs. The mystery adds to people's interest. Firstly they were believed to be dead and I venture to say that somehow maybe it gets out that they were on this mysterious island that can't be found. I don't think that any of the oceanic 6 says more than that.

If I were building a cover story - I would take a planes life raft add it to the story and indicate they were on some island (not The Island) that was closer to the fake crash site. Could even throw up a phoney camp for photo opportunities.

I think they already have a story for the six to follow and planned on it before hand. That movie Tom Hanks was in he was gone four years and people bought his story this is only a few months.

They didn't just say there were no survivors, didn't they say all 'confirmed' dead?. So how on earth do you un-dead someone, if all seats were full and all passengers confirmed dead, then how on earth can they explain it?

I mean a mraculous story would work if they hadn't said all confirmed dead, like swam to shore of a nearby island, lived on a raft for 3 months, etc etc, but I don't the explaining confirmed dead but now alive part....

What if the Oceanic six are the only ones "allowed " to return because their bodies weren't accounted for? The reason why they can leave the island is because their survival can be explained for some reason. Otherwise, surviviors who have already had their bodies recovered would be pretty much debunk the fake crash site.

It didn't look like the rabbit was 'cloned' - more likely sent through time. Candle was pretty adamant that the two rabbits shouldn't be allowed to come into contact with each other.

I wonder what the idea is with all this stuff that doesn't get shown on the regular TV show - seems like it's not important to the main story of the Island otherwise it would be in a regular episode. All that Valenzetti equation stuff to explain the numbers was never revealed on the show which makes me wonder if the Candle/Rabbit video will ever have any bearing to what we see develop plotwise on screen.

Here's something I posted in the Real wreckage/fake wreckage thread last night.

Naomi never said that they'd recovered the bodies from Trench 815. In The Brig, Naomi tells Sayid that "all the bodies" were there when the robots surveyed the wreck. Frank's television went fuzzy at a particular moment in the news report in Confirmed Dead:

From Lostpedia

[In flashback, a plane falls gracefully to the bottom of a fish tank. We see the helicopter pilot, Frank Lapidus in a shop in Eleuthera, The Bahamas]

TV REPORTER: We wanna caution our viewers that the images they are about to see are graphic in nature. Viewer discretion is advised. Authorities have released dramatic footage of the sunken remains of Oceanic Flight 815. The National Transportation Safety Board has set up a hotline for family members of the Oceanic victims. The NTSB has begun the victim identification process.

[A photo of a man is shown on-screen next to underwater remains, and the hotline number]

TV REPORTER: We have confirmation that this is the pilot, Captain Seth Norris. In a statement, the NTSB said that quote...

[The television muffles and blurs. Frank hits it to bring the reception back]

TV REPORTER: ...recovery of the bodies will be next to impossible. We can only hope that identification will provide closure to the families of the victims. Unquote.

[Frank stares at the screen, noticing something. He grabs a phone and dials the
hotline number]

FEMALE OPERATOR: National Transportation Safety Board, Oceanic hotline.

FRANK: Yeah, let me speak to your supervisor.

We never have been given a reason why recovery of the bodies would be "next to impossible".

(I haven't played the ARGs, so I have no way of knowing whether this has been answered there.)

We have had no confirmation within the show that any bodies were recovered from the wreckage in the trench. Naomi told Sayid that the remote robots had managed to account for all of the bodies

[They go inside the tent, where Desmond smiles to Sayid, who takes a seat]

SAYID: [To Naomi] My name's Sayid Jarrah. I understand your helicopter crashed onto the Island.

NAOMI: Actually it crashed in the water.

SAYID: What's your name?

NAOMI: Naomi. Naomi Dorrit.

SAYID: Naomi, from where exactly did you take off?

NAOMI: A ship. Freighter. About eighty nautical miles West of here. We're part of a search and recovery team.

SAYID: You told my friends the wreckage of Flight 815 was discovered. Did you mean the partial wreckage?

NAOMI: No. They found the entire plane off the coast of Bali. In an ocean trench four miles deep. They sent down cameras in these little robots to survey the wreck. The bodies were all there.

SAYID: Well, obviously we're not dead.

NAOMI: Obviously.

The 'official story', as far as the outside world is concerned, is that all of the bodies were accounted for. And yet we know that six will manage to return and become celebrities (if Jack's reference to the press in TBOTE is anything to go by).

I don't have a solution, but the above information does make it difficult to find a logical answer to the question of how they are going to explain the Six's reemergence.

Peace

What if the Oceanic Six actually refer to a different Oceanic Flight. I mean if you have the resources to cover up Flight 815 crashing on the island, you could create a different scenerio regarding the six who make it back. Maybe they weren't suppose to get back but they did and the Oceanic Six is a cover up also.
