I was in Ireland for St. Paddy's six years ago, (in Cork, to be precise) not only is it a much bigger deal here in the states, no one was wearing green and I didn't see anyone with their pincher fingers ready! (I am convinced that I was the only person wearing green in the whole country that day!) Though...evidently Mar 17 1999 also coincided with a big Manchester United game, (and Becks was still with them at the time, I believe) which seemed to be a more immediate event than the holiday (it was on in every pub I went to that evening). In the daytime, there was just the parade <freakin' shamrock!!!> and then I guess everyone went home in the afternoon to take a nap??? I mean- big parade, lots of people, parade ended and everyone disappeared!
