View Full Version : I STILL say there is more to the title of "Lost" than our Losties...
DallasElizabeth 02-16-2008, 09:46 PM Whether it is lost in some minor/major area of time warpage which squies real time entry/exit and the passage of time in the real world vs. the island and/or whether there is a narrow window of geographic and/or time opportunity to enter the realm of the island which appears to be undependable (hence the warning to the heliocopter's pilot to fly EXACTLY as he flew in).... there is more to the "lost" title than people being lost..
i_wana_get_lost_with_starla 02-16-2008, 10:32 PM I think a lot of people would agree with you, for one, I do lol. But yea, LOST is on so many levels, its truly amazing. I sometimes wonder how the writers themselves keep up with the story.
Our heroes are LOST in more ways than one.

BillToons 02-16-2008, 10:50 PM As an artist an animator working in TV I know that nothing is done without a reason. Of course Lost has all kinds of reasons going on. So, it has always intrigued me that the incredibly simple (seemingly simple) "Lost" title that precedes every show must have some meaning to the show. I've always wondered what the meaning behind the fact of the title starting out not in focus... then becomes focused for just an instant only to become out of focus as it exits. It must mean something. What? I'm still figuring. Maybe it has no meaning at all... grrrr figuring out this show is the true pleasure of this drama.

I think lost is the perfect title. These people are lost spirtually, geographically, emotionally, and now they are at a time loss.I think this title fits perfect and like all of you I enjoy the hours of thought this show provokes.
Vincent Hanna 02-17-2008, 02:34 AM What I've noticed is the angle is different when it zooms in over the four letters LOST in the beginning after the first scene of every episode. I seem to recall the first two seasons it zooms closer to the left of the O in LOST and now we're on the right side of O almost over the S by now. Again, it could be nothing or just that as we moving further in the timeline, our birdsye view is following along to its conclusion. Like when we get to the last season, we will be flying over the letter T.
Nate Schamp 02-17-2008, 05:26 AM I always thought that, deep-down, we were supposed to think of 'Lost', not as the opposite of 'found', but the opposite of 'won'...

Interesting.
On another note:
My girlfriend pointed out the other day that unlike most people our losties really have nothing to go home to.
Which doesnt really make sense when u think about it, most people would have a job, a spouse, a family, or friends that means alot to them that they really want to get back to.
But our Losties have everyone they need right there on the island.

I have often wondered this myself - it started off with: how will these people ever go back and lead normal lives again after everything they've been through? But now, you are exactly right! They have everyone they need on the island. Deep, man!
Also, onto what Vincent Hannah said about the clarity of the different letters of LOST throughout the different seasons, I think you are definitely right!

I enjoy how it can be left to us to decide. To you it can mean one thing to me another and no one is right. That is one of the things I love about the show is how so many avenues are open to what the show really means and each week they feed each theory or can at least be perceived that way.
Lexxxxx 02-17-2008, 09:38 PM Since the title is all in caps, I have always assumed it's an acronym for SOMETHING (what, I have no idea).
MPmom 02-18-2008, 02:00 AM Back when the series idea was originally conceived, the title was "The Circle." That was intriguing enough in itself. But now that we suspect that altered time is a key factor, it's even more interesting to ponder.
Time loop anyone?
Maybe when Jack and Kate attempt to return to the island, they return too far back in time, because they didn't know about following the correct bearing. They repeat the cycle of life on the island, then die in the cave, later to be found by their own future selves.
The most recent Island dwellers to escape the island return to become the original inhabitants who never escaped. "Lost" in "The Circle".

I really like this possibility, and really think it is believable. Great theory do you want it to happen this way?
