Does anyone have any good guesses as to what the freighters' purpose is on the island?

Here are some of the facts:
1. They don't seem all that interested in Ben
2. They don't seem interested in Desmond
3. Naomi informed us in "Confirmed Dead" that they don't have proper "field training."
4. Naomi was resposible for getting them in and out but now she's dead and they seem to be acting incredibly careless.
5. They're not there to rescue the survivors
6. The group is made up of a physicist, anthropologist, ghost whisperer, and pilot
7. Naomi is upper management and had little interaction with the rest of the group.
8. Only the pilot is to talk to Minkowski

Personally I don't believe anything out of Miles' mouth and I've started to take all of his statements with a grain of salt. I don't think the freighters that we've met are the "killers" but they may have been sent in order to obtain information for someone that is interested in doing harm.

I guess I don't have a good guess as to the freighters' purpose but I thought I'd organize some of the facts and see if I could start a dialog...

Here's another fact they have heard of Penelope Widmore, notice the look Lapidus and Faraday exchanged when Desmond said now tell me you've never heard of Penelope Widmore which said they had. They seemed to be given instructions about what not to tell the losties. I'm not sure about them not being killers, they did have that box of gas masks and possible nerve agents, which to me aluded to the others at the barracks during the purge. The only certain thing about them is that Sayid was right when he said they shouldn't be trusted.

I don't trust them at all! Maybe they are part of Ben's 'killing' group? and that is why Sayid has suddenly signed up ?

There true motives for being on the island are still very unclear. Think everything they have said has been a cover to what there true motives are.

Miles: He wants to get paid. They hired him because he can talk to the dead.
Frank: He was supposed to be on the plane, knows about the cover up, and is a good pilot.
Dan: Wants to do experiments
Charollet(sp): Wants to do experiments.

I think Miles is on the job because of the money they're paying him. However, his reaction to finding Ben was pretty strong, so he must know something.

I think Daniel just knows there's something special about the island and wants to experiment with it. I'm not sure about Frank yet, but I definitly think Charlotte is the most knowledgable out of the 4 of them. If any of them know why they're REALLY there, it's her. I don't think the other three really realize the true reasons they're there.

Exploit the island
Kill Ben
